Do you struggle with overwhelm, fear, and anxiety, or lack direction in your life and career?  In this episode, Adam Hill sits down with Mark J. Silverman as he shares his incredible story of overcoming homelessness to become a millionaire coach. Mark discusses his journey from addiction and achieving success through personal growth.  Mark shares his strategies for prioritizing tasks, managing distractions, and transforming fear into flow. Gain valuable insights on developing leadership skills to help rising executives reach their potential.  Here are some power takeaways from today's conversation: How childhood experiences shape how you see things Turn your fears into a superpower Accomplish goals through intention Guard your to-do lists like a junkyard dog Learn how to establish your worth Leading by example: The importance of personal accountability Episode Highlights: [09:20] How childhood experiences shape how you see things Doing trauma work later in life allowed Mark to realize how his childhood experiences shaped how he views things today. For instance, being violently ostracized from his neighborhood made him distrustful of groups. [12:10] Most of our thoughts and feelings are conditioned responses Mark explains that 95% of what drives us is subconscious. As children, we were conditioned in ways that influence our thoughts, feelings, and body chemistry as adults, without us realizing it. [17:06] Turn your fear into superpower Despite being an introvert who was afraid to pick up the phone, he realized his ability to connect with people and honor their trust was his strength. [23:12] Accomplish goals through intention Shift your perspective on your ability to focus and prioritize the things that you want to accomplish. It's not a time management problem but rather an honesty problem, if you don't know how to say no to unnecessary tasks or say yes to things you want due to fear holding you back. [28:23] Guard your to-do lists like a junkyard dog Mark advises guarding your to-do lists carefully and having each item fight to stay on the list by determining if it truly needs to be done today by you or else the world will end. [37:53] Learn how to establish your worth Mark realized he was transactional in needing validation from clients telling him he was wonderful in order to feel worthwhile, but doubling his prices established his true worth and value as a coach. [51:07] Leading by example: The importance of personal accountability As a leader, it's important to hold yourself accountable to the commitments and goals you set for yourself. Set the right example for your team to follow and stay accountable to their goals as well.  Resources Mentioned: www.markjsilverman.com  The Rising Leader Podcast Mark's books:  Only 10s 2.0: Confront Your To-Do List and Transform Your Life The Rising Leader Handbook Follow Adam… Sign up for my newsletter and get my free Vision/Reflection Retreat Guide: Follow me and turn fear into flow! Our guest for today's episode is Mark J. Silverman, a successful tech industry figure, bestselling author, coach, and speaker who has transformed $90 million ideas into tech startup triumphs. He also hosts an insightful podcast, Mastering Overwhelm: How to Thrive in Business, Relationships and Life. In 1989, Mark's life was anything but successful. Homeless and grappling with issues related to drugs, alcohol, and sex, he found himself living in his truck. After being lent a lifeline by his brother — on condition of attending AA and NA, enrolling in community college, and hitting the gym — Mark made the brave choice to leave his old life behind. Mark's internal transformation led him from homelessness to becoming a college graduate, discovering a talent for sales, and earning a millionaire status. Despite external success, however, his internal self-image remained at odds, colored by unaddressed trauma. Amid panic attacks, health issues, and a failing marriage, Mark found himself fearing death in a one-bedroom apartment. It was then he made the firm decision to leave a legacy for his children. Motivated by this goal, Mark set out to run the Marine Corps Marathon, make a million dollars for his ex-wife and children, and donate $60,000 to charity. He leaned heavily on meditation, journaling, and reading numerous self-help and spiritual books, one of which — "Relax Into Wealth" by Alan Cohen — became a guiding light in his journey towards realizing his self-worth. Despite being diagnosed with severe ADD, Mark found a way to thrive. Drawing from his struggles, he wrote a best-selling book, "Only Tens 2.0", offering a fresh perspective on confronting overwhelming to-do lists and transforming lives. It became an unexpected hit, striking a chord with others facing similar struggles. A key part of Mark's strategy is understanding that we are not victims. We have choices. This perspective shift allowed him to view tasks differently, identifying the rewards sought, or the consequences avoided. He introduced the concept of '10s', tasks that are absolutely essential, further streamlining productivity.   The Biggest Helping: Today's Most Important Takeaway “The most important thing that I want anybody to know is that they're loved, they're lovable, they are good just the way they are. And that the constant hamster wheel of trying to be enough is just not... it's not real. It's not worth it. I'm 60 years old, right? So I talk to a lot of 30 and 40 year olds. And in hindsight, the cliche of what's really important, your relationships, your health, your well-being, and enjoying life. Like I have two adult sons. You're alive. Please enjoy. Please.”   --   Thank you for joining us on The Daily Helping with Dr. Shuster. Interview of Mark Silverman, author Only 10s 2.0 - by Chicke Fitzgerald of the Game Changer Network. Mark dishes out the truths that only his clients typically have access to in the new edition. In the new Introduction, Mark J. Silverman responds to the lies that he hears clients telling themselves, the stories that we all tell ourselves, and the worries that become excuses that keep us from managing our two most valuable resources: time and attention. Written as an engaging coaching conversations, the Ten Truths of Only 10s the most powerful lessons of Mark J. Silverman's one-on-one coaching and workshop facilitation during the years since the first edition was published, including these: We don't have a time management problem, we have an honesty problem. No one else put this on your plate; you're playing the victim to your time management choices. You're too busy because it feels easier than choosing what is important. You've been telling yourself you deserve a badge of honor because you're soooo busy. The Only 10s Way of Looking At Your List and Your Life How many weekends have you spent finally getting organized only to be back to your old ways in a week or less? Do you have neatly labeled files and lists because you are getting things done only to find you are just making more and longer lists? It's time to turn Potential into Reality! Fighting the distractions of every day life, technology and ADD to keep the funnel filled and the wins flowing for his multimillion dollar, award winning sales career, Mark J. Silverman tried every time management/productivity tool available, only to fall back on his instincts and last minute touch downs. Although wildly successful, the grind of keeping up took its toll on his health, time, and family. He knew there was a better way. Mark found clues in his successes: the end-of-quarter buzzer beater, training for a marathon, and in the training for a marathon, and in the single-minded sense of purpose he observed when engaged in some tasks but not others. Inspired by the flow of Alan Cohen's Relax Into Wealth and Steve Chandler's pragmatic and motivating Time Warrior, Mark J. Silverman takes us on an expedition beyond the realm of time management. Only 10s is not a tool or a system, it's a daily experiment you conduct in the laboratory of your daily life. Through simple trial and error you will: • Feel more energy, productivity and freedom. • Get your entire To-Do List done, every day. • Learn why you get some things done and not others. • Launch your awesome ideas from your head into the world. • Do it all at your own pace and still have astounding results. If you're tired of rolling the ball up hill, constantly trying to catch up, or just want a little breathing room this might be the method that makes a difference.

Helen and I met in a mastermind six years ago.  In that mastermind, we developed deep, lifelong friendships that are invaluable to us today.  But friendship isn't the only benefit. This episode is worth listening to just to hear Mark's beautiful answer to my final question, and his humility and wisdom offers gems for all coaches throughout. You'll not hear a more open and honest interview with any coach. The extended BIO we talk about in this episode can be found here: http://bernhardtwealth.com/Profiles/SilvermanMark.pdf Here's a little more about Mark: I believe that every human being has the ability to be successful, happy and fulfilled. That becoming more of who you are (instead of what you think you need to be) will get you further in business, in your relationship and in life. It may or may not involve a change in career, but it definitely requires and deserves exploration. Over a 17-year career at fast-moving, fast-growing companies like NetApp, VMware and EMC, I generated over $90 million in sales and received numerous awards. I've led executive teams, management and front-line stakeholders to complete many successful projects and to close multi-million dollar deals. My career in the high tech Industry as a Sales Executive brought challenges, adventures and an incredible lifestyle. I was fortunate enough to travel the world, eat in amazing restaurants, live in a big house and drive the coolest cars. Raising two incredible boys as an involved father, a deepening spiritual center and dealing with devastating health challenges, I started to see things differently. I noticed that life in the 1% had a cost. For most, though we looked good on Facebook, and were distracted by toys and vacations, and would never admit it, that cost crept up on us until it was too late. This observation brought me to the realization that the drives and motivations of our early career are often unsustainable over time. Our skill sets, strategies and even our energy sources need to mature if we're going to continue to move up and still thrive. Our relationships, our health and the satisfaction of our success rely on our ability to evolve. The good news is we can. We can have even greater success that is sustainable and integrated with our values. It isn't easy; otherwise everyone would be making these choices. And, if we are deliberate and intentional, our time and energy will be focused on the things that really fulfill us. Today I work with Executives and Entrepreneurs to do success differently though one on one coaching, workshops and incredible travel adventures. I am dedicated to you having an extraordinary business, extraordinary relationships and an extraordinary life. https://markjsilverman.com/
