Episode 84 of You Might Wanna Sit Down for This kicks off with some classic group banter, as Trivelle states that DJXP is “enamoured by women.” That lighthearted moment leads to a deeper conversation about the type of men who claim not to like women, yet still rely on them for what they provide...while asking the question "Did those women really go to space?" The discussion then segues into Tracee Ellis Ross's viral comments on Michelle Obama and her brother's podcast, where she opens up about preferring to date younger men over older ones. The group explores the potential double standard when those preferences are flipped, along with other dating quirks and oddities—like Martha Stewart's takes on romance, Damon Wayans allegedly dating his nephew's girlfriend, and more stories that dive into the dynamics of dating, marriage, and power distribution in relationships. Coachella gets some love next, with highlights from Missy Elliott and T-Pain. The crew reflects on the longevity of their careers, which have spanned decades since they first dropped music in the '90s and 2000s. That leads to a fun segment on Mandela Effects in music—think lyrics you thought you knew from tracks like “All I Do Is Win,” Lloyd's “I Want You,” and Usher's “Nice and Slow.” Next up: the government-mandated Drake segment. The team reacts to Nokia jumping to #2 on the Billboard charts and the reported legal threat from UMG, possibly tied to the recent diss track drama. They touch on the rumored $250 million settlement and break down what Drake would realistically see from that number based on his contributions to the biggest label and market share holder in the industry. With the NBA playoffs officially underway, the crew reacts to Paul Pierce's spicy comments about what it would mean if Steph Curry wins another ring during “The LeBron Era.” They dive into first-round matchups and what to expect from the postseason—with some bold predictions from Trivelle on who might shake things up. To wrap things up, they debate the viral “Mount Rushmore” artist lists floating around—covering categories like New York Hip-Hop, ATL Hip-Hop, and their own takes on what those lists might look like for Afrobeats and Dancehall. Things heat up quickly as Vybz Kartel and Sean Paul's legacies come into focus in the battle for dancehall supremacy.

The late sessions crew is back. This is episode 10 of one of the most dopest sections in podcasts. Kelvy, D-Nick and HarleyHustle return to talk about the mess that's going on in Hip Hop. Who created hip hop? Was it African American, some say it was Puerto Ricans, some say it was Jamaicans. Everybody has weighed in, from Lord Jamar, Tariq nasheed, KRS one, amongst others. The late sessions crew sits down and talks about all of this. While giving some history Hip Hop. One of the questions that is asked and will be talked about further in another episode is there is a difference between African American Hip Hop, and New York Hip Hop. I believe that this episode will not only raise some questions for the listeners but it will also probably be controversial. Check this episode out and let the crew know what you think.

Growing up in his hometown of Atlanta, artist/producer Sol Messiah was inundated with the rich and energizing spirit of Hip Hop culture. Getting his start as a breakdancer, Sol Messiah built his reputation as a b-boy before traveling to NYC to join the legendary Rock Steady Crew. Inspired by New York Hip Hop legends, Sol Messiah fell in love with another foundational element of Hip Hop culture: DJing. Spending untold hours mastering the skill, and acquiring the musical knowledge required of the DJ, Sol Messiah was prepared to make the leap into producing records, the next step in his musical journey. A talented and skilled producer, Sol Messiah eventually linked up with Atlanta legend and veteran producer Dallas Austin. For years, Messiah would work alongside Dallas to create a deep catalog filled with timeless tracks for TLC, Madonna, Monica, Boyz II Men and more. At the same time, Messiah would continue to build his reputation as a DJ, securing several club residencies and gaining popularity and acclaim for his classic Sol Messiah Mixtape series. After separating with Austin in 1997 to pursue his own musical path independently, Sol Messiah spent years building an impressive catalog and further established himself as a go-to producer for a wide range of acts. Some of his most notable credits from this era include “Rain” and “Picture Perfect” from Chamillionaire's platinum album The Sound Of Revenge, Nappy Roots' “Roll Again”, David Banner's “Ridin'” featuring Talib Kweli & Dead Prez as well as Dead Prez's “Hell Yeah”, featuring Jay-Z. Soon, Sol Messiah would embark on a fruitful musical partnership with a fierce lyricist named Sa-Roc. Together, Sa-Roc and Messiah have released over a dozen projects thus far, including Sa-Roc's groundbreaking 2020 debut on Rhymesayers, The Sharecropper's Daughter. As a duo, Sa-Roc and Sol Messiah have amassed a global reach, touring internationally and rocking crowds across continents. They have performed at the legendary Jazz Cafe in London, performed live for BBC and have shared the stage with luminaries such as Common, The Roots and Jay Electronica. On his latest album, GOD CMPLX, Sol Messiah connects with some of the finest MCs in the game to create a collection of head-bopping Hip Hop music that's both innovative and inspiring. Featuring guest performances from KXNG Crooked, Sa-Roc, Evidence of Dilated Peoples, Locksmith, Stic.Man of Dead Prez, Che Noir, Lyric Jones, Mickey Factz, Cambatta, Planet Asia, TriState, Narubi Selah, Murs, Da BackWudz, Slug of Atmosphere, Aesop Rock, and Baba Zumbi of Zion I, GOD CMPLX is a powerful and engaging project. The album comes out swinging with the title track, “GOD CMPLX,” which features KXNG Crooked and Sa-Roc trading slick and fiery bars over an epic, grandiose beat. Showcasing the versatility of Sol Messiah's sound, “Limitless” finds Evidence getting busy over a dramatic, piano & string-infused track. From the brassy, drum-heavy sound of “The Hard Way” (feat. Che Noir, Sa-Roc & Lyric Jones) to the haunting vocal harmonies of “Sol Supreme” (feat. Cambatta), GOD CMPLX is not only full of bangers, it's also a diverse gallery of sounds that serves as a testament to Sol Messiah's skills as both a producer and a visionary. The journey that Sol Messiah began so many years ago, as a youth discovering Hip Hop in Atlanta, has no ending in sight. With his gifted ear and fierce dedication to Hip Hop culture, he continues to use his craft to build his own body of work as well as help maintain and elevate the culture of Hip Hop as a whole. Having picked up a small point-shoot camera in his early teen years as a means of creative expression, Senetchut transformed a hobby into a lifelong passion. Heavily influenced by New York City's diverse culture, Sen's raw approach towards his photography gives his work—motion and still —an organic characteristic. When he was fifteen Sen's work was featured in museum galleries such as the Studio Museum of Harlem, and the Jewish Museum. He began his study of storytelling through photography at the Tisch School of the Arts. Later, Sen studied documentary filmmaking under the guidance of Albert Maysles at the Maysles Institute and Cinema. He continued his quest for expanded cinematography skills at the Film Connection Institute, and later for portraiture at the New York Institute of Photography. In this episode Sen and I discuss How being raised by health conscious and spiritually aware parents impacted his upbringingFinding a balance between working with both cinematography and stillsBeing a documentarian of the current New York Hip-Hop scene and how Hip-Hop has influenced all of his workThe importance of legacy + longevityMMA as a spiritual practice and disciplineDaily visualization + meditation practicesMentorshipAdvice for photographers regarding workflow + subject connectionAnd the definition of Sen's name, his influences, and future worksPlease follow Sen on Instagram and check out all Sen's amazing work via his website here:www.senmfloyd.comhttps://www.instagram.com/sen.floyd/--Please subscribe and leave a short review if you've enjoyed this podcast; this support will really help us grow our platform immensely. The passage of time has seen Cameo maintain an outstanding presence through the years with their signature style and unique sound, even as the music business has continually changed. They have been sampled and covered by multiple artists over the years, and Tomi is co-writer of some of Cameo's hugest hits including Single Life, Back and Forth, Talking Out the Side of Your Neck, She's Strange, Candy, and monster world-wide hit (also nominated for a Grammy) Word Up. Cameo's Artistry is played on the radio to this day, and is a quintessential cultural shout-out on the now widely used phrase ‘word up', which is still a part of New York Hip-Hop culture's vernacular expressions. Cameo has truly been part of the backbone of Black music history in America, and Tomi graciously shared with us the groups' origins and his own amazing experiences with Cameo, and in the music business.

Scotty Mac first on-stage performance fueled his passion and drive to pursue a career in music. During his first live performance, Scotty Mac expected a crowd of three hundred people to support his movement. Backstage he rehearsed rap lines from the track and completed a brief prayer before God. Scotty Mac walks onto the stage and only sees three people in the audience. Devasted beyond words can explain, Scotty Mac smiled and gave a “Michael Jordan” type performance. During his most embarrassing moment, Scotty Mac rose to the occasion and conquered fear. Music raised Scotty Mac during his childhood, and by the age of 15 years old, he began crafting lyrics which would shape his legacy. Growing up in Amityville, NY Scotty Mac experienced notorious gang violence, drug dealing, aggressive racism, and economic oppression. Amityville's population hovers around a meager 9,500, and 8.7% are African Americans. Against all the odds was the mentality of Scotty Mac and his music embodied a hustler's spirit. Scotty Mac launched his label in 2017 and never looked back. Scotty Mac Spotify Digital Catalog has generated over 350,000 streams within 18 months. Multiple countries including Brazil, Canada, Italy, United Kingdom, & the United States consistently stream the music of Scotty Mac. Scotty Mac understands the “great expectations” of New York Hip-Hop. LL Cool J, Public Enemy, De La Soul, Eric B & Rakim, & more have created a legendary bridge for future millennial artists to cross. The movement of Scotty Mac continues to increase organically worldwide. Booking agents across the country are requesting the services of Scotty Mac and internationally the online buzz is electric. Scotty Mac launched his clothing line, global merchandising brand, and music label. Scotty Mac understands the business elements needed to succeed and maintains the “Get Rich Or Die Tryin” mentality. The childhood memories of hardship, racism, gang violence, and more still shadow the mind of Scotty. Those intricate thoughts fuel his passion to dominate the world of music and create his wave of success. Scotty Mac is the New Wave Creator of Millennial Music. Danny “Easy D.” Dohrmann is a witness to the expansion of Music of the Mississippi. In the 80's and 90's, Easy D. and his company, Satin Star Productions, rocked the San Francisco Bay Area. Easy D.'s venues included dropping into some of the most famous clubs in San Francisco Bay Area: Silks, The Palladium, Daz Club/1015, Club Metropolis, The Design Center. He also shared the stage with a young group called The Wrekin Cru and a kid by the name of Andre Young, Pebbles, E-40, and Sir Mix-a-Lot. But it was his tenure during THE PROS DJ Pool that Easy's contributions made the greatest impact. THE PROS DJ Pool, founded by Rico Casanova, had a mission. To bring the new sounds coming from the East Coast to the West. Without THE PROS and 5 other regional record pools (Miami, Houston, Chicago/Vegas, Los Angeles, and Seattle), New York Hip Hop, Chicago House, The Miami Sound, Freestyle, Los Angeles Gansta Rap, The Bay Sound, and The Northwest Mix-A-Lot sound would never had flourished. ** We celebrate the Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin who was an American singer and pianist. Tonight we'll share some of her TOP HITS!!..including RESPECT..THINK & A ROSE IS STILL A ROSE.
