Given his diverse and deep-seated skillset, it's hard to say what's next for JL, but whatever it is you can be sure, it'll be high quality and out-of-the-box. Get your budgets ready, because it won't be long before the rest of the industry discovers the hidden gem that is JLShotThat. I saw this on your story Showing us a plaque and you wrote “The label seems to think I helped” “Who's Hot” list of New York rappers – having worked with everyone from the legendary Pop Smoke (RIP) and the heir-apparent Fivio Foreign, to LilTjay and JI the Prince of NY. He directed the videos for some of the hottest tracks out of NYC in 2019 and 2020 – including Pop Smoke's platinum record “Dior,” and “War” featuring LilTjay, as well as Fivio's “Big Drip,” “Wetty,” “Drive By” and LilTjay's “Zoo York.” It was early 2019. The artist was Fivio Foreign – and the song was “Welcome to the Party (Remix)” featuring Jay Dee, P Gutta, and Yung Drama. How do you prepare for a music video? What was life like during this time period? Did you feel you made it? Money, women, the fast life “The label seems to think I helped” Are you disappointed, hurt, insulted or all 3? Does this feel like a Jay-Z and Dame situation? Were there any contracts or paper work in place? Were you moving in good faith? Are you a victim of ni99a business? Were you being used or utilized? Leo Fitzpatrick is a New York City based actor and gallery owner. in 1995 he starred in the movie KIDS with an ensemble cast of first-time actors from the downtown skate scene. The explicit sex and drug use in the film was over the top, but it felt eerily verite and disturbing. The fallout from his role in the movie was harsh. Since then, he's appeared in many TV and film roles, but lately he's been focusing his energy on his passion for fine art. During the height of the pandemic, he opened Public Access Gallery on the Lower East Side. His intention was to create an art space that could foster the sense of community reminiscent of the extended family of skaters that he found as a teenager. This week on The Plug, we sit down to discuss the impact that KIDS had on him, and learn why you should never be intimidated to walk into high-end gallery. Tune in to this special episode for some bonafide 90's New York tales.

Sal hails from Baton Rouge Louisiana where he started riding BMX until it went in a direction that no longer interested him, and with a little luck, found himself with a skateboard to ride, and has never looked back. Soon, he found himself touring with skateboarding greats like Danny Way and Ron Allen, filming all around the country, and living a dream. His early sponsors include H-Street, Plan B, Tracker Trucks, and Spitfire. Those dreams come to and end for most and for him, he just took what he had an moved forward on new projects of his own. He's been the man behind Aesthetics Clothing and Skateboards, Elwood, 23 Skateboards and more. He's lived in New York and helped run the Zoo York brand at it's peak, and much more. He's got some new projects coming up with his BMX roots, but personally will always be searching out a thrill on his skateboard. At 49 years old, I watched him still casually busting out backside airs in a pool just a few weeks ago. Through his various brands and relationships, he's sponsored many people who've gone on to make quite a splash in skateboarding, like Fucking Awesome's Jason Dill amongst others. Sal is deep in the skateboard culture and has a great respect for it.On the day we recorded (twice--oops), Sal found himself with myself and legendary skate photographer and music man "O" Otis Barthoulameu as O dyed some wheels for him and we were chatting while the Rit Dye boiled. Sorry for the background noise, this is just the reality of doing all this on the fly.If you are a fan of Sal, you will enjoy hearing his perspective. Mission Statement

Zered Bassett's tenure as a central figure of East Coast skateboarding spans generations. In many ways, he represents the bridge between the old New York and the new. The fact that he has endured longer than many of the brands that he's been associated with is a testament to his dedication to his craft, and shows a resiliency that mirrors the streets where he honed it. Originally from Cape Cod, Zered was a child prodigy who was discovered at an Invisible demo in Massachusetts as a tween. This landed him on Sixteen, and later flow for World Industries. It was during this era that Brian Brown's brother sent Zered's tape to Zoo York, where it landed in the hands of Jeff Pang. He was offered a spot on the team, which was accepted after getting some solid advice from Jahmal Williams. From there, Dr. Z made the move to the Big Apple, where he was molded into the legend that he would ultimately become under the tutelage of Harold Hunter, Danny Supa, Vinny Ponte, and the rest of the O.G. Zoo heads. His progression is well-documented in RB Umali's E.S.T. video series, and culminated in Vicious Cycle, which is still considered by many to be his magnum opus. Zered would ultimately spend a decade as a card-carrying member of the Zoo York Institute. During this time, he turned pro, received a signature shoe from DVS, and a sponsorship from Red Bull. In addition to becoming the face of New York's next generation, he was easily in the top-tier tax bracket for professional skaters. This afforded him luxuries, including an apartment in the city and a Cadillac Escalade. But all that glitters is not gold. And the rapper's lifestyle is rarely built to last. By the end of the aughts, Zoo discontinued Zered's contract; DVS released him from its roster; and Red Bull followed suit a few years later. He was on the verge of packing up, and moving back to Cape Cod. But the New York hustle sustained him via collaborative projects with UXA and Uniqlo before landing spots on the rosters at Expedition and Converse. Currently, Zered is comfortably chilling as a pro for Alltimers, has a couple of signature Converse shoes under his belt, and is pursing his art and photography in Brooklyn. Lee covers all of the bases of Dr. Z's legendary story during Episode 21 of Mission Statement.

Danny Supa could be a poster boy for New York’s golden era. He’s a native of the Bronx, and came up under the tutelage of Vinny Ponte and Ryan Hickey. By the time he reached his teens, he was already skating for Zoo York. His part in Mixtape is still one of the most beloved of its era. Like many of his contemporaries, Supa got to experience the extreme highs and lows that accompanied the skate lifestyle during those wonder years. His crowing achievement is probably being a part of the original Nike SB roster, and getting a signature Dunk colorway that is still one of the most coveted of all time. He also earned serious coin from his other sponsors, which included Red Bull and Stussy before signing the equivalent of a 360 deal with Zoo around the time that it moved under the lucrative Ecko umbrella. But with the money came the partying. Supa admittedly lost some years in the bottle, and burned a few bridges along the way. That journey took him from New York to Los Angeles and back while he bounced around from Zoo to Stereo, and later Boulevard before ultimately finding himself without a board with his name on it. When his pro journey ended, Supa took up residency as an employee at the New York Diamond store; where he worked up until recently. Ready to make a change, he walked way from the world of retail to start a skate school, and pass on his decades of experience to the next generation. Lee Smith gets an insider’s perspective on all of this and more in Episode 16 of Mission Statement.

Mike is a father, surfer, and entrepreneur. Mike is the founder of the unique and progressive recovery retreat Further. Mike grew up surfing in California and was a sponsored pro, free-surfer for the skateboard and clothing brand Zoo York at the age of 21. Through his early 20’s Mike traveled the globe, surfing and gaining exposure for the brand. These days, when Mike is not spending time with his daughter Maya or working on the development of his rehab program, he can often be found chasing extra-large Indonesian swells around the archipelago or just charging some of his local surf breaks such as Padang Padang and Temples at Uluwatu. Mike is soft-spoken in his approach, powerful in his drive to help others, and continually focused on being the best version of himself. Today, Mike is with me to discuss his experiences, challenges, and hopes for the future. Further Retreat Bali: www.furtherbali.comSupport the show (https://terriblehappytalks.teemill.com)

Welcome to episode #377 of Six Pixels Of Separation - The Twist Image Podcast. Marc Ecko is one of the most fascinating people that I have ever met. I was asked to interview him live and onstage in Toronto earlier this year. I knew that he was the creative and fashion genius behind Eck? Unltd. (which has become a billion dollar fashion and lifestyle company). I also knew that his marketing antics have been well documented (remember the tagging of Air Force One?). I figured that I was going to meet an older gentleman in their late fifties (like a Tommy Hilfiger or Kenneth Cole type of persona). It turns out that Ecko and I are almost the exact same age (I need to start working harder!). Ecko is still semi-actively involved in the multiple fashion brands that he created (Eckored, Marc Ecko Cut & Sew and Zoo York), but spends the bulk of his current time working on Complex Media. As if that's not enough, he is one of the most generous philanthropists out there, and recently released a stunning business book called, Unlabel - Selling You Without Selling Out. He is, simply put, an amazing individual who is very real, practical and friendly.
