We've uncovered a troubling trend: marijuana use is on the rise among pregnant mothers, posing severe health risks to both them and their babies. With evidence from a recent study by Kaiser, we discuss the alarming increase in gestational hypertension, preeclampsia, lower birth weights, preterm birth, and higher neonatal intensive care admissions linked to marijuana use during pregnancy. Even more concerning, many dispensaries are recommending marijuana to pregnant women—a dangerous echo of past marketing tactics by the alcohol industry. We urgently call for stringent regulations and public health warnings to protect vulnerable mothers and their unborn children from these significant risks.Follow the work of SAM and FDPS below:https://learnaboutsam.org/https://gooddrugpolicy.org/https://thedrugreport.org/On X: https://twitter.com/learnaboutsamhttps://twitter.com/GoodDrugPolicyhttps://twitter.com/KevinSabethttps://twitter.com/LukeNiforatosOn Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/learnaboutsam

When it comes to taking health into my own hands, preventative health is what I strive for. Nourishing my body & mind with foods, & natures medicine, but also feed my soul with activities I love (even if my girls are right there with me). Sure there's times when we go down with acute symptoms, but I feel confident knowing we have a natural medicine wellness toolkit on hand to support us through it. Of course, if needed, medications & emergency health care are there for us. I think it takes a level of curiosity to question the ‘norm'; patience & dedicated time to do the research to find the best options for your family and a level of confidence to live life aligned with your family values, no matter the opinion of others. Plus a whole lot of intuition to tap into and follow as you navigate your daily health choices. What if I told you, I know someone who is in her 60s and is fully embracing this. So much so she has never been given or taken ANY medications throughout her life. She helps guide me back to using foods as medicine first, is a true inspiration with the businesses she had created & how she had set her family farm up to provide for themselves and others. Plus I love the way she lives intuitively. Introducing a pioneer in the health space, Cyndi O'Meara. Cyndi is a Nutritionist, best-selling author, international speaker and founder of Changing Habits and The Nutrition Academy. Today, I get to chat with Cyndi all about food, farming and intuitive living for episode 92 of the Glowing Mumma Thriving Bubba podcast. What We Cover: The beginnings of creating Changing Habits. How she has gone about sourcing these high quality foods, including interesting stories of their travelling adventures. A typical day on Cyndi's plate and diets that she does follow. The incredible fun fact about Cyndi that will blow your mind! Daily routines, habits and practises that bring more joy into her day. The dream and process of becoming a farmer and what the Changing Habits farm includes and involves. What farming practises they use and why this matters. So you know that folate is important for your pregnancy and baby health, but when it comes to looking at foods and supplements for your preconception and pregnancy, it might cause you some confusion. If you're like most patients who come to me with their 'hormone health' blood work up they had with their GP, you have been told that your thyroid health was normal and often unfortunately dismissed. Something is often missing however- a test for thyroid antibody levels to check for autoimmunity activity. If you have had your levels checked and they are 'in range', heightened above the 'normal', or your health care provider hasn't checked this off yet, you'll want to pull up a seat and listen in. There's likely more to the picture that you're missing. Thyroid antibodies are often present prior to you experiencing symptoms, and are a result of an underlying inflammatory response in your body. This can lead to various symptoms of mood, energy and sleep disturbances, fertility challenges and pregnancy loss. To open up this very topic, I have invited Naturopath, acupuncturist, Conception Queen and all round women's health expert, Miranda Myles for a podcast chat. What We Cover: The role of the thyroid in fertility and overall wellness. The different types of thyroid imbalances that can cause issues. The acceptable level of thyroid antibody activity and optimal reference ranges. Whats happening in the body with raised thyroid antibodies. The potential causes of autoimmunity of the thyroid. Research backed effective therapies that can help reverse antibodies. Plus more! On this week's episode e of Food, Freedom and Fertility we are joined by Karly Nuttall a Midwife and Educator. Karly is a certified Professional Midwife who has also launched on online school, Midwifery Finishing School. Today we have Karly here to discuss Midwifery Care for Pregnancy Health specifically focused on pregnancy loss. The Midwifery approach to pregnancy loss is very open and diverse. The thought process is that there is not one correct way to handle this but better yet you must do what is right for you and your family. Karly helps us understand the risk of infection for non-viable pregnancies and the details of a natural miscarriage and letting it pass on its own. Also, she discusses the benefits of this process and how you can truly make this experience something that will help you fell more at peace with the situation better. Karly walks us through how each miscarriage can be extremely different and especially based on how far along you are. One of those options is a D&C. She helps us understand what a D&C is… not to be confused as DNC. A D and C is Dilation and curettage (D&C) is a procedure to remove tissue from inside your uterus. A lot of people assume D&C is specifically for the removal after a miscarriage but it can also be used for other uterine conditions. But she also explains that all medical procedures should have a discussion and informed consent with full explanation of all of a patient's options. Karly discusses that pregnancy loss early is commonly due to genetic abnormalities. Rarely are external causes the root of a miscarriage. Typically, women who are 35 and younger have a harder time requesting genetic testing until 3 miscarriages, however Karly suggests that if you feel the need for any testing you should speak up and find a provider that will support your decisions. Some of the testing to be done is to check for progesterone levels, MTHFR gene mutation and thyroid levels. Having a support team in place and a referral network will assist in your right as a patient to request these tests. The role of a midwife is discussed at length and what role your midwife will have in the scenario that you have a miscarriage at any time during your pregnancy. Traditionally we as a society feel it is expected to hand over our bodily functions to the hospital and doctors. However, Midwives' goals are to help people feel connected to the process. Take ownership of not only decisions but the process. Miscarriage is a difficult topic to navigate, but we want you to remember that you have options, you have support you don't have to do things a certain way. You get to regard the life of your baby however works for you and if your providers do not support that it is ok to find someone else who does. Part 2 to the epic first pregnancy preparation episode. If you haven't listened yet to Part 1, check it out here. This mammoth episode sees Mason and Tahnee diving deep into the practices, philosophy, diet and herbalism that went into creating the year in which Tahnee was childbearing little Aiya. This podcast was recorded during the first week of bubba's life, so the sharing experience of the birth is fresh; something Tahnee was wishing to be able to infuse into this intimate sharing of how she chose to approach nourishing her body during pregnancy. We have received such amazing feedback from these two episodes and with such amazing sharings, we had to revisit them! Here's what Mason and Tahnee dive into (with much more extensive notes shared below): Pregnancy and home birth plans How did Tahnee know? We found out at four weeks, basically I was very aware that something was different in my body!! We'd both felt the baby come in November, and exactly three months later we were pregnant, and I've heard that's common Pregnancy diet we don't follow a dietary plan, more intuitive generally vegetarian, though we do include meat in our diet, probably once or twice a week: fish, buffalo, occasionally organic chicken and beef, other wild meats (rabbit, goat, boar), broths/stocks more mindful of eating a variety of foods and definitely eat more quantity, smaller meals, regularly organic and local as much as possible - farmers market and Santos/Source keep us fed fridge/freezer is stocked wild foods, high mineral content fermented foods Best supplements during pregnancy I didn't take a lot of vitamins or anything like that, apart from lipsomal vitamin C lots of herbs, mostly tonics, plus raspberry leaf and nettle, slippery elm occasionally, yellow dock, dandelion, milk thistle, ginger lots of probiotics iodine until I saturated silica personally most concerned about losing minerals as bubbas drain mamas (for every baby a tooth, is an old saying!) so been keeping up the minerals megahydrate estroblock when we had it, just one cap per day of the pro clays and charcoal (you might've heard of pica - desire to eat clays - common in pregnant women) DHA, EFA: fish oil, also raw seafood, fish and oysters sea minerals The best tonic herbs and medicinal mushrooms during pregnancy best suggestion is reishi, but I took everything in the SuperFeast range at various stages, kidney jing herbs lately (postpartum) to heal and boost recovery Best herbs during pregnancy avoid steroidal herbs, emmenagogues check out Susun Weed's book and Aviva Romm Symptoms of pregnancy been lucky, apart from tiredness and needing to eat a lot more, I've had very little to complain about. Have felt body change, but that's been fine, I've enjoyed being pregnant. Heartburn when my uterus got really big (apparently babies with lots of hair give their mamas heartburn…), but that stopped when baby dropped, ‘growing pains' around my ribs (like when I was a kid), car sickness if I had an empty belly Pregnancy cravings / changes started eating meat again, pretty mindfully needed lots of simple carbs in the first trimester, regularly. Like, every two hours. Bilbo Baggins style - breakfast, second breakfast, elevenses, lunch, afternoons I wasn't a hungry, but at least one snack and then dinner. And often needed to eat in the middle of the night. So I did

As women, our bodies are constantly evolving. From our teenage years and puberty to our prime in our 20s and 30s to our pregnancy bods and postpartum. So it makes sense that our workouts should evolve as our bodies needs change. We must focus on the areas that need the most attention, have the correct form and cadence to each workout (sets/reps), which prevents injury and allows us to achieve those results we are seeking. The mammoth episode many of you have been waiting for. This is part 2 of our childbearing series, and the one where Tahnee and myself dive deep into the practices, philosophy, diet, herbalism and more that went into creating the year in which Tahnee was childbearing little Aiya. This podcast was recorded during the first week of the bubba's life, so the sharing experience of the birth is fresh; something Tahnee was wishing to be able to infuse into this intimate sharing of how she chose to approach nourishing her body during pregnancy. Here’s briefly what we cover in the episode plus some more extensive notes than usual from Tahnee for those who are on their own pregnancy journey: Pregnancy + Home Birth Plans How did I know? We found out at four weeks, basically I was very aware that something was different in my body!! We’d both felt the baby come in November, and exactly three months later we were pregnant, and I’ve heard that’s common Our Pregnancy diet We don’t follow a dietary plan, more intuitive Generally vegetarian, though we do include meat in our diet, probably once or twice a week? fish, buffalo, occasionally organic chicken and beef, other wild meats (rabbit, goat, boar), broths/stocks More mindful of eating a variety of foods and definitely eat more quantity, smaller meals, regularly Organic and local as much as possible - farmers market and Santos/Source keep us fed Fridge/freezer is stocked Wild foods, high mineral content Fermented foods Best supplements during pregnancy I didn’t take a lot of vitamins or anything like that, apart from lipsomal vitamin C Lots of herbs, mostly tonics, plus raspberry leaf and nettle, slippery elm occasionally, yellow dock, dandelion, milk thistle, ginger Lots of probiotics Iodine until I saturated Silica Personally most concerned about losing minerals as bubbas drain mamas (for every baby a tooth, is an old saying!) so been keeping up the minerals Megahydrate Estroblock when we had it, just one cap per day of the pro Clays and charcoal (you might’ve heard of pica - desire to eat clays - common in pregnant women) DHA, EFA: fish oil, also raw seafood, fish and oysters Sea minerals The best tonic herbs and medicinal mushrooms during pregnancy Best suggestion is reishi, but I took everything in the SuperFeast range at various stages, kidney jing herbs lately (postpartum) to heal and boost recovery Best herbs during pregnancy Avoid steroidal herbs, emmenagogues Check out Susun Weed’s book and Aviva Romm Symptoms of pregnancy Been lucky, apart from tiredness and needing to eat a lot more, I’ve had very little to complain about. Have felt body change, but that’s been fine, I’ve enjoyed being pregnant. Heartburn when my uterus got really big (apparently babies with lots of hair give their mamas heartburn…), but that stopped when baby dropped, ‘growing pains’ around my ribs (like when I was a kid), car sickness if I had an empty belly Pregnancy cravings / changes Started eating meat again, pretty mindfully Needed lots of simple carbs in the first trimester, regularly. Like, every two hours. Bilbo Baggins style - breakfast, second breakfast, elevenses, lunch, afternoons I wasn’t a hungry, but at least one snack and then dinner. And often needed to eat in the middle of the night. So I did.
The term "mind-body connection" can mean a variety of things to so many people. Some take it to mean mental health, others take it to mean nutrition therapy, others take it to mean something about the stars or hanging crystals by your bed. But most of us can agree that it relates somehow to stress. But does it have any impact on the health of your pregnancy? Absolutely. On this episode I share with you how.
