Through a full decade of pro football — 1990 to 1999 — Leroy Hoard specialized in zapping the will to fight from defenders. His goal? Make you quit by the fourth quarter. The sight of No. 33 in Cleveland and No. 44 in Minnesota barreling through defenses helped define this glory era of the sport itself. Hoard ran with power, speed, attitude. And oh my, he has stories to share. The former NFL running back hangs out on the Go Long Pod to relive it all. During a Pro Bowl season in 1994, Hoard led the Browns to the playoffs with 1,335 total yards and nine touchdowns. Of course, he also remembers the scene in ‘95 when the Browns played their final games at Municipal Stadium. He'd later resurrect his career with the high-flying Vikings of the late 90s. Full audio and video is above, and available within your Apple and Spotify feeds. I'll share the written transcript later today.Topics include…* Life as a running back in the 1990s, from the old AFC Central to the NFC Central.* Growing up in New Orleans' dangerous Ninth Ward.* The worst collision of his football life. * The time the Browns moved from Cleveland to Baltimore. * The time he arrived in Minnesota on a Tuesday, started on Sunday and it felt like living in China. * Concussions. Pain. Life has been hard for Hoard since he retired. Did he have suicidal thoughts? Was he depressed? Hoard explains this empty feeling. * Finding purpose as a radio commentator today at 560 WQAM in South Florida. * Bill Belichick. His former coach in Cleveland has made offseason waves. We get Hoard's thoughts. * Analysis on the Browns today, Kevin Stefanski and the failed Deshaun Watson experiment. Thank you for fueling our independent journalism here at Go Long and sharing with a friend.Hoard previously hung out with us back in November 2021 if you'd like to check out that conversation, too.Miss our Browns column this week? The NFL offseason training is officially upon us. This week teams around the league are meeting for voluntary OTAs. And for one star wide receiver, attendance is both a good sign for his team, but also a bit of damage control. This offseason the New England Patriots signed veteran wide receiver Stefon Diggs to a 3-year deal. Diggs, who is coming off a torn ACL, recently went viral on social media. On Monday, Diggs was in attendance as the Patriots convened for voluntary training periods. Former NFL QB, Chase Daniel, and The Athletic's National NFL Writer, Mike Jones, discuss Diggs' participation.Additionally, the Detroit Lions will be forced to replace another veteran offensive lineman. Frank Ragnow informed the team that he will retire from football at the age of 29-years old. Ragnow was a four-time Pro-Bowl selection. Elsewhere around the league, Kirk Cousins did not show up to the Atlanta Falcons voluntary OTAs. Jones reported on the show that the Falcons have explored trade options for Cousins, but nothing has materialized into a deal yet. He also reported the Falcons would be content keeping Cousins as the backup, valuing his experience as a starter. The Buffalo Bills are hoping their star running back, James Cook, will show up for the mandatory sessions. Thus far this offseason, Cook has declined to attend the voluntary practices. The Athletic's Bills beat writer Joe Buscaglia joined the show to discuss Cook, the Bills offseason defensive focus, and Josh Allen's wedding.Plus, the new cover of EA Sports Madden was released featuring Philadelphia Eagles star Saquon Barkley. The guys react to Saquon's cover photo. As always...Be a friend, tell a friend, and subscribe to our channel! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

A decade ago, we met in the lobby of a Canton, Ohio hotel ahead of the Pro Football Hall of Fame inductions. I'll never forget Joe DeLamielleure — NFL great — offering this total stranger a seat. Before we knew it, an hour passed by. That's “Joe D.” He's 74 years old now, which is easily 90+ in Football Years for a man who absorbed endless head slaps as an NFL lineman in the lawless 1970s. Yet, you'd never tell. His mind is extremely sharp… and there's good reason for that. DeLamielleure's day-to-day life supplies real hope to all former players worried about their concussions leading to dark days. Loved catching up again with the man who made six Pro Bowls through a 13-year career with the Buffalo Bills and Cleveland Browns. Audio of our chat is above, and available on Apple, Spotify, everywhere you pod. Here's the written transcript:Topics discussed…* Joe DeLamielleure and Joe Ferguson were the first two players to ever walk into Rich Stadium. This 2025 season will mark the Bills' final season in this bowl. * What kind of teammate was O.J. Simpson?* Remarkably, O.J. wasn't Joe D's only friend who killed somebody. * How his “Electric Company” offensive line followed Vince Lombardi's Packers blueprint with the help of Jim Ringo. * A pair of Tom Dempsey stories — DeLamielleure's comedic timing was spot on. * In 2013, a doctor told him he's living with CTE. Unlike fellow NFL lineman Mike Webster — whose life took a very haunting turn due to head trauma — DeLamielleure feels strong as ever in 2025. Both mentally and physically. How is this possible? * Why Joe D believes current Bills quarterback Josh Allen is “one in a million.” * Don't forget about those Browns days. DeLamielleure helped me out with the Ozzie Newsome chapter in “Blood and Guts” and again looks back to his crushing Red Right 88 playoff loss against the Oakland Raiders. (Damn those scuba gloves!) * A story about his father you will not want to miss.Thank you for listening, subscribing and sharing Go Long with a friend.ICYMI…I'm in on Brandon Beane's defensive swingJulian Hill will save lives, Part I: UnderworldJulian Hill will save lives, Part II: RescuedJulian Hill will save lives, Part III: Destiny This is a public episode. Send us a textIn this brand-new live episode of 2 Giants Goofballs: New York Giants News & Updates, Drew and Rob tackle all the biggest headlines shaking up the Giants universe and the NFL. From offseason grades to surprising win projections and a return to Hard Knocks, there's no shortage of Giants news today worth diving into. The New York Giants are officially heading back to Hard Knocks — this time in-season. Starting in December, the series will follow all NFC East teams and will air new episodes each Tuesday through the regular season. The Giants haven't been featured in years, and fans will get an inside look at this team during one of the toughest schedules in the NFL.Speaking of that brutal schedule, the Giants are only favored to win one game this entire season according to early odds — Week 5 vs. the Saints. That means 16 games where they are underdogs, and in 13 of those matchups, the opposing team is favored by three points or more. With such low expectations, NFL Network projects the Giants to win just 5.4 games in 2025. But could they surprise everyone?PFF handed the Giants a B- for their offseason performance, noting a strong draft (A- grade) but missing out on big-name QB trades. Instead, they landed Jaxson Dart, and QB expert Jordan Palmer believes Giants fans should be excited about the pairing of Dart and Brian Daboll. Palmer praises Daboll's teaching ability and says this might be the perfect environment for a young quarterback to thrive. One of the more underappreciated stories? Bobby Okereke. Bleacher Report labeled him the Giants' “best-kept secret,” pointing out his stellar production and versatility. Could this be the year he finally gets Pro Bowl recognition? Another name to watch is rookie CB O'Donnell Fortune, who PFF labeled a “rookie to watch” after earning one of the best coverage grades in college football. In other league-wide news, the controversial "Tush Push" remains legal after the NFL decided not to ban it. Drew and Rob don't hold back — calling the complaints “chicken” and challenging teams to stop whining and find a way to defend it.Whether you're looking for the latest New York Giants news today, an NY Giants live podcast reaction, or just want insight into Giants news and rumors, this is your go-to episode. On this episode of Talking Buffalo, it's another edition of The Podbag as Patrick Moran is responding to comments, takes and questions submitted by listeners covering several topics, including an incredibly high ceiling projection for Buffalo Bills safety Cole Bishop going into his second season. It's no secret Brandon Beane and the Buffalo staff were extremely thrilled to land Bishop in the second round of the draft last year. Unfortunately for everyone Bishop's rookie season didn't go as hoped. He got injured in training camp during the summer to take him out of a three-way competition to start at safety and seemed to play catchup for a lot of the season after returning, especially in his first start in Houston in Week five where he looked lost out there multiple times. Injuries to Damar Hamlin and Taylor Rapp led to Bishop starting late in the season and again in the playoffs and while he struggled some (like everyone else in the secondary) he did show flashes of being a very good player. That leads someone in this week's Podbag to provide a hot (understatement) take that Bishop will be a Pro Bowl or even All Pro safety this year in his sophomore campaign. Patrick discusses that while obviously tempering those kind of expectations. Also there's a handful of questions and comments about the NFL schedule that was officially released on Wednesday. How does Patrick feel about it and what did he like and dislike the most now that the slate has been revealed? Also discussed are special teams being overrated, a fair evaluation of Beane, passing on Gabe Davis, some fans of this podcast and someone who's clearly not a fan of Nine Eleven Tavern wings. That and much more.Major props to Talking Buffalo sponsor, Sonny Red'sat 1841 Abbott Road in Lackawanna, just minutes from Highmark Stadium. We consider them THE most underrated spot for wings, pizza and other great food in Western New York plus it's a great place to drink and have a great time.Special thanks to local Buffalo band, Orange Zestfor allowing us to use their awesome single, “Old Friends” as the new official intro music for Talking Buffalo. Ed, Rob, and Jeremy took some time from Wednesday's BBMS to discuss another mess for the Bengals, as Pro Bowl defensive end Trey Hendrickson tells the media he won't play for Cincinnati without a new deal. Considering who's on their roster, is it fair to say they're the most talented dumpster fire in the league?

“My Biggest Pivot? Being homeless. Experiencing that, growing up having to really be humble, having to sacrifice and look at things from a different point of view. Not feeling like I ever fit in, I always feel like I had a lot of time to look inward.” Josh Jacobs. In life, we often see the end result of success but never understand the story of what one endures to achieve it. Perseverance often makes the difference between success and failure, and this conversation is about a young man overcoming obstacles to find himself on an unlikely path that reveals his greatest gifts. While in Green Bay for the 2025 NFL Draft, Ryan, Channing and Fred sit with Packers' star Running Back, Josh Jacobs for an unfiltered and deep conversation about his journey from sleeping in cars to a feeling of never fitting in to becoming a first-round draft pick and a Pro Bowl player. Jacobs opens up about his challenging upbringing, how football became his escape, the mental battles and emotional turmoil he faced even after making it to the league. Forging a life-long close bond with his father who raised him and his siblings, Josh talks about the unconditional love and gratitude he has for his family and finding the ability to forgive his mother after opening up on the burdens of their relationship. As an underrated high school player, Josh's football talents took him to Alabama where Josh was one of the best backs in college despite being third on the depth chart, having to prove himself day in and day out. He shares his pivotal point in ball and how Nick Saban played an intricate role his football career pushing to the next level and how he learned growth and discipline through football. He shares the truth about contract negotiations, his thoughts on the running back position being devalued, his mindset after leaving the Raiders, and how he stays grounded in a world that constantly tests him. Josh reveals the pain he feels for his former teammate and close friend Henry Ruggs and how he hopes young people learn how one moment and one choice can alter life's direction. And of course the guys ask him about the talented roster in Green Bay as Josh raves about his quarterback Jordan Love, his head coach's leadership and what the team is working towards for the 2025 season.
