Send us a textIn this episode we take you to the Democratic National Convention to hear some of the greatest public speakers of the 1990s. 1. Jerry Brown, former Governor of California (and future Governor of California and future Mayor of Oakland) he was a 1992 Presidential candidate who near the end emerged to give Bill Clinton a little challenge at the end of the primary. He hit on economic inequities in the system and slammed both parties over campaign finance reform. He is a fiery speaker and knew how to stir up a crowd. the speech however was remembered for what he did not do, which was mention Bill Clinton, at all. 2. Zell Miller, Governor of Georgia, delivers the 1992 Convention Keynote address, and he does it with all the fire of Southern stump meeting, attacking Bush on his economic record, and Ross Perot on his positioning as a political outsider. He feeds the crowd plenty of red meat. Later, he would turn his fire on his own party in 2004, and famously challenge Chris Matthews to a duel on national television. 3. Reverend Jesse Jackson, civil rights pioneer and political activist, he always speaks to the downtrodden, ran a powerful campaign for President in his own right in 1988, but finds himself in a much diminished role after he made comments that offended Jewish people and found himself at odds with the party nominee, Bill Clinton, over comments Clinton made about rap lyrics. 4. Ted Kennedy, Senator from Massachusetts, he is the Liberal Lion of the Senate, former Presidential candidate in 1980 that helped rip apart the Democratic support of Jimmy Carter, and he had a long history of undermining both Presidents he disliked of both parties. He was still a formidable speaker and this speech lives up to the billing as he endorses Bill Clinton and attacks the record of the Reagan-Bush years. This is a great show if you like great speakers even if you don't agree with much of anything they actually say. But, alas, I am a Republican so take that for what it is worth. Still, I love a great speaker and raw meat politics of both sides. I am often asked what I think of Lee Greenwood's song “God Bless the USA” since he is mentioned in TRANCE Formation of America pgs.151-152 and again on p.170. Despite all that I experienced with Lee Greenwood, I still like aspects of “God Bless the USA” because I do love our country, its natural beauty, and the resiliency of We the People. Besides, I know a lot more about the origin of that song that I will share in a moment. When I see Lee Greenwood's presence at Trump rallies, I do wonder if he knows anything about Greenwood's past. Or if he simply enjoys the song like I do. I appreciate President Trump for all he has done to wake people up to the reality of the Wash DC swamp and its funding mechanism of drug and human trafficking across open borders, yet I do not agree with him on all things. Why should I? Human beings are all on their own learning path.Did Lee Greenwood learn something that restored his moral compass? Anyone with a soul has the capacity to grow and change, and therefore I focus my personal judgments on information rather than on people.President Ronald Reagan is a profound example. Reagan was deeply traumatized from the assassination attempt on him, and never regained control over himself or his Administration from that point on. George Bush and Dick Cheney ran his Administration and treated him horribly that I witnessed. In my 1995 testimony for Congress TRANCE Formation of America, National Security demands forbid me from asserting my perception of what went on behind the seen. Instead, I could only tell exactly what happened that had been validated. Details in TRANCE are what happened to me, Reagan, and others. What happens to us is not who we are. I was at Swiss Villa Amphitheater in Lampe, Missouri when Lee Greenwood was there due to his involvement in Bill Clinton's CIA cocaine ops running through the country music industry. In 1983-84 Nashville's country music industry was extending to Branson to be in closer proximity to Bill Clinton's Mena cocaine operation and the Swiss Villa Amphitheater compound. Greenwood was friends with both Bush and Clinton back then, and also sang at Bohemian Grove's UNderground. (p.170 TRANCE)It was my experience that Greenwood was so heavily involved in the cocaine industry that he was granted a boost to his country music career cover. Greenwood already had been given access to sophisticated NASA/DARPA harmonics, which Bush wanted used at the1984 Republican National Convention.President Ronald Reagan had been outspoken in his desire to change our National Anthem from the Star Spangled Banner to the old 1911 version of America the Beautiful. He had asserted that the majestic beauty of our nation would be more patriotically inspiring than war, which was a point of view we shared. Lee Greenwood's song “God Bless the USA” was originally written in accordance with Reagan's patriotic preference and was released in 1984 to be used in the Republican National Convention for the re-election of Reagan-Bush. The rest is history, and history in the making today. I've often wondered what Reagan would have done for our country had he been in control of his Administration. What free will choices would he have made? Having lost my free thought/free will to CIA MK Ultra mind control the first 30 years of my life, I have deep appreciation and gratitude for my freedom today. Depth of insight compound the meaning of “God Bless the USA” when I hear it at a Trump rally, especially knowing what it meant to Reagan. Perhaps President Trump is aware of that, too.
In 1984, forty years ago, the Reagan-Bush campaign launched a highly praised television ad blitz proclaiming, "It's Morning Again in America." The ads underscored a theme at the center of Reagan's campaign: that America was "Prouder, Stronger, and Better" under President Reagan's leadership. And while those great “Morning in America” campaign ads were running, the President was riding the campaign trail. In today's podcast, we'll feature excerpts from a quintessential campaign speech where the candidate tells you what he did, then tells you again, and then, of course, tells us again.

One of the classic conspiracy stories of our time is about the suspicious death of reporter Danny Casolaro. He along with many other journalists paid the ultimate price for digging into the corrupt practices of the Deep State. Casolaro was a whistleblower who had documented evidence that a special type of software was stolen by criminal types in our government and used to hack into computer databases of many countries during the Reagan/ Bush era. He created the metaphor, "The Octopus" - a hypothetical network of conspirators who had a profound influence over politics, intelligence, and business, worldwide. A recent Netflix series called American Conspiracy: The Octopus Murders, has reopened this sensational case of espionage, blackmail, and murder. Tonight on Ground Zero (7-10pm, pacific time), Clyde Lewis talks with the owner of TrineDay Press, Kris Millegan, and investigative journalist, Ed Opperman about THE OCTOPUS'S GARDEN. Twisty, engaging, & filled with colorful performances, the Soviet paranoia of the Cold War '80s fueled the plotlines of so many first-rate films that New York Times bestselling author Ace Atkins & I vividly remember from the Reagan/Bush era. And with the next two books that Atkins is set to release revolving around spies &/or the '80s, it's the perfect time to revisit a quartet of spy-centric releases, including THE FALCON AND THE SNOWMAN, TARGET, JUMPIN' JACK FLASH, & NO WAY OUT in this inquisitive & nostalgic episode. Touching on several other films along the way & offering great insights into the evolution of both the spy genre & the way that attitudes shifted in audiences & Hollywood from the '60s through the '80s, Atkins fans, Gen Xers, & film lovers will find much to dig into in this sparkling conversation. Ace's Bio: Ace Atkins is an award-winning, New York Times bestselling author who started his writing career as a crime-beat reporter in Florida. Don't Let the Devil Ride is his thirtieth novel. His previous novels include eleven books in the Quinn Colson series and multiple true-crime novels based on infamous crooks and killers. In 2010, he was chosen by Robert B. Parker's family to continue the iconic Spenser series, adding ten novels to the franchise. He lives in Oxford, Mississippi with his family. We open this episode looking back at the hostage release just after President Ronald Reagan was sworn into office in January of 1981. It was a moment of deep relief for the entire country and former President Jimmy Carter deserves much credit for the the tireless way he worked to insure it would happen just as he was leaving office. President Reagan made it a point to allow Carter to fly to Germany to greet the hostages. Then we move on to March 30, 1981, a date which shook the city of Washington D.C. and the entire nation. It was a day I remember vividly, for when I got home from school the television was running nonstop with coverage of the assassination attempt on the life of President Ronald Reagan. Reagan had just completed his speech at the Washington Hilton to the AFL-CIO and was headed back to the Presidential Limousine when shots rang out. John Hinkley Jr, a deranged young man, in love with actress Jodi Foster, shot four times gravely wounding White House Press Secretary James Brady, also hitting Thomas J. Delahanty a D.C. Policeman, and Timothy McCarthy one of Reagan's Secret Service Agents and also hitting the President. What ensued was both our government's finest hour and several moments of chaos. In this episode, we tell that story and let you relive the moment as it happens, in real time, as we see the White House Pressroom give confused answers to questions, as the Vice President is being flown back from a trip to Houston , Texas. We also see the forceful presence of a main character of our show's past re-emerge in General Alexander Haig who would step up to calm the nation and end up committing political suicide instead. It is a fascinating story at crisis point moment that would change the Reagan Presidency and the Reagan - Bush relationship, from two former foes working together for the betterment of the nation, with some level of apprehension, to relationship that would blossom into a full friendship between the two leaders of our country. In this episode we look back at the end of two campaigns in 1980, the Democratic race between Senator Ted Kennedy and President Jimmy Carter and then the end of the general election between Carter and former California Governor Ronald Reagan. It was one of the most exciting races in modern American history and it was, almost until the end, much closer than history has portrayed it. The Democratic race was a bitter fight and that bitterness would linger for decades after the race was over. As we show you in this episode Ted Kennedy would, after delivering his famous concession speech, stall coming to the hall to congratulate Carter, leaving the convention organizers stuck for nearly a half hour, stalling the dropping of the gavel in order to get, what is commonly called in the political world, the money shot, of Ted Kennedy and Jimmy Carter together on the podium to present a unified message for the country. They finally got the picture but John Chancellor of NBC News summed up the obvious, "Ted Kennedy is there but he didn't look happy about it" Then we move on to the closing days of the race. Jimmy Carter was actually still in a close race with Ronald Reagan. It took literally into the final days for an agreement to be struck for a the one and only debate between the two men to occur. It was then in the final minutes of that debate that Ronald Reagan asked the historic question that would undo the Carter campaign, "Are you better off than you were four years ago?" It resonated with the public and with hostages in Iran, an economy struggling, and inflation high, the Carter campaign collapsed. In 1980, Ronald Reagan would be elected the 40th President of the United States of America, and George Bush would be his Vice President. PTJ and Dan discuss Cynthia Weber's 1994 book, Simulating Sovereignty: Intervention, the State and Symbolic Exchange. Weber examines "the justifications for intervention offered by the Concert of Europe, President Wilson's administration, and the Reagan-Bush administrations" and analyzes them via a combination of "critical international relations theory and foreign policy analysis." Topics include: why "sovereignty" was so important to critical and constructivist scholars in the 1990s, Jean Beuadriard and International Relations, and the Reagan presidency. Robert ‘Bobby' Charles, former Reagan appointee and Bush administration official, discusses President Biden's latest speech given on Capitol Hill just 6 days before midterm elections where he “identified Republicans as enemies of the people, enemies of the state, and a threat to democracy.” Biden speech comes on the heels of recent polling which shows Americans are primarily concerned with high inflation and rampant crime. Charles responds that President's speech last night “was a disgrace,” and “disgusting,” saying, “that a president of the United States has never historically come out and essentially tried to delegitimize the totality of their opposition, and that's exactly what [Biden] did last night.” Charles comments that it is “really so out of tune, that it's like singing from a completely different script from where the American people are.” He goes on to say that, “the irony is that everything that [Biden] quoted as political philosophy really defends the Republican frame of mind, because this country was really founded on individual liberties, and ultimately equality of opportunity for everyone, and that's what the Republican Party stands for. That's why the Hispanic population is moving this way, the black population is moving Republican. When you go state by state, you can see that the abandonment of responsibility as leadership by this one party rule, this Democrat-rule, has really infuriated average Americans.”See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

The mother of three grown sons, she has hundreds of “daughters” whom she has helped launch into productive and fulfilling adulthood. A lawyer and laborer in the conservative movement since the early 1970s, Michelle worked through all twelve years of the Reagan-Bush administrations, including in presidential appointments in the Education Department. Tune into the conversation between Dr. Meeker and Michelle as they discuss Michelle's new book, How to Raise a Conservative Daughter. MEG and GUEST MICHELLE EASTON (PART 1) Dr. Meeker and Michelle review Michelle's latest book, focusing on: - Why society praises liberal women and disparages conservative women - The origin of the feminist movement - Nonie Darwish, a former muslum who speaks on the dangers of misogyny and abuse towards women - Kellyanne Conway's character and the example she set as the Senior Counselor to former president, Donald Trump. BREAK MEG and GUEST MICHELLE EASTON (PART 2) Dr. Meeker and Michelle discuss Star Parker, who is another conservative woman of faith that made it into Michelle's book. Equally important to kindness and encouragement, Dr. Meeker and Michelle agree that a woman must have courage to speak into issues that truly matter. Ralph Neas, prominent civil rights leader, and former Reagan-Bush campaign director, joins Joe and Alex this week to discuss the power of coalition and strength in united numbers, specifically in human, constitutional, and civil rights. Ralph shares his insight on how the GOP has turned the "clock back 80 years" and undone a lot of the important democratic strides we have made. Glen cut his teeth in polling in the Reagan / Bush era and helmed the polling operation for House Republicans before co-founding his own firm - a firm that now represents more than 40 members of Congress and 10+ US Senators. Glen tells some great stories of his early days in politics - matriculating at American University, interning on the Hill, cutting his teeth at polling with President Reagan's pollster and at the NRCC before being part of the founding of Public Opinion Strategies. Ambassador Frank Lavin has been a fixture in Republican politics for the last 40 years. He worked for President Reagan as his head of politics, advised President George H.W. Bush and under President George W Bush, he was appointed US Ambassador to Singapore in 2001. A prolific author for global publications, Frank had a second career in Asian finance and is now CEO and founder of ‘Export Now'. A prominent ‘Never Trumper', he has been a vocal critic of the Donald Trump Administration. Misha Zelinsky caught up with Frank for a chinwag about Election 2020 and whether Trump can fight back and win, why elections are defined by what voters don't want, what made Ronald Reagan the politician of his era, how politics has changed for the worse today, the future of the Republican Party, the secret to winning Presidential races and what the rise of an authoritarian China means for the US, Australia and the world. It's a wide ranging chat. We want to say that Frank absolutely wins the award of best BBQ answer in the history of the show! Kim Kardashian vs Jack in The Box In Food News this week, the most famous person in the world, Kim Kardashian tweeted to Jack in The Box about something she saw at one of their locations. She didn't want to "fully put them on blast" so she told them to DM her. In response, multiple other fast food outlets used this opportunity to tweet their Jack in The Box takes at her. This included Wendy's, Burger King, and Hooters. Check out a roundup of the best tweets here Human Cheese The Victoria and Albert Museum in London took cultures from multiple celebrities to make cheese out of them. This included Chef Heston Blumenthal's crotch DNA to make actual "Fromunda Cheese." Currently, these cheese's are being tested to see if they are edible, but regardless they are on display at the V&A currently. I told Tom that I think this is the first step into human cloning. When history looks back at where cloning started, they won't look at Dolly the Lamb, but rather at this exhibit which was meant to show bacteria in a different light. Source New Coke This July 4th, The third season of Stranger Things is going to be released on Netflix. It was an instant hit full of 80's Nostalgia, compelling storylines, and great acting. Every season progresses in time and highlights what was going on in then-current events. Last season there were Reagan/Bush and Mondale/Ferraro signs in front of multiple houses. This season, everybody is drinking New Coke. New Coke was created to be sweeter and smoother, but everybody hated it. The complaints about the new product were like nothing Coca-Cola had ever anticipated. They brought back "Classic" Coke and sold both products together for some time, eventually renaming "New Coke" to "Coke II" but took the product off the shelves silently in 2002. Coke has teamed up with Stranger Things to bring back New Coke for online sales and in select vending machines and retail stores. This is one of many partnerships that Stranger Things and Netflix have set up for this summer, others include H&M and Baskin Robbins. The director's twin brothers Matt and Ross Duffer said no money exchanged hands with Coke, but they did get to direct the newest Coca Cola commercial Source 8 Grilling Tips For The Summer "I truly believe that 95 Percent of People in the United States don't know how to grill" - Tom Miale Turn on your grill and walk away, if your grill isn't hot things will stick to your grill Make sure your grill is well seasoned use High Temp Pam Spray, if you don't have that you can put vegetable oil on a paper towel and use your tongs to rub them down Don't keep the temperature on high the entire time. You have to create heat zones on your grill Use your meat thermometer and pull your meat off the grill 5 degrees before they hit their ideal temperature. Tent them in foil and let them cook through in about 5 to 10 minutes Sear steaks on a hot grill, you want to create a crust on the outside. For chicken, you want to sear them quickly and then move it onto a less hot area to cook through When saucing your items, wait until the end when you have about 1 minute left of cooking, brush your bourbon barbecue sauce onto the food and put them back on the high heat You can also add sauce right after you take something off the grill. Salsa Verde slathered on top of a steak and then wrapped up in foil. This allows the steak to absorb the Salsa Verde and mix in with it. You can also take dry rubbed chicken wings off the grill and then just do a quick toss in Buffalo or BBQ Sauce Clean Up: When you're done cooking, close the lid and turn the heat all the way up to burn whatever is left on the grates. You can brush it down with a wire brush, and next time you grill you'll be ready to grease down the grates and start up again! Mike's Bonus Tips: You can only grill as good as your surroundings will allow you to. We all know about Mise En Place, but the Memorial Day Weekend Mis En Place is very different. While grilling you have only 2 options for audio. 1 is Jon Sterling and Suzyn Waldman giving you the Yankees Play by Play, 2 is WCBS.FM The NY Oldies Station. Hopefully, they will be playing "Brandy(You're A Fine Girl)" by The Looking Glass. Tom's Famous Bourbon BBQ Sauce You’ll Need:1 medium onion, finely chopped2 garlic cloves, minced3/4 cups of bourbon (DO NOT USE EXPENSIVE BOURBON. If you do, I will personally come over and slap you, then take your whiskey. I usually use nothing better than Bulleit)2 cups of ketchup3/4 cups of dark molasses1/2 cup white sugar1/4 cup brown sugar1/3 cup white vinegar1/4 cup tomato paste1 tsp of Cholula hot sauce (less if you want it to be less spicy; none if you just want a sweet sauce)1/4 cup Worcestershire Saucepinch of salt (to taste) Combine the first three ingredients into a saucepan over medium heat. Cook for 5 minutes or until the onions start to soften and turn a bit brown. Add everything else into the pan. Turn up the heat until you see the sauce bubble (keep stirring so it doesn’t burn). Once it starts to bubble, turn the heat down and simmer for 15-20 minutes more, making sure to stir often. I use a silicone spatula to make sure the bottom doesn’t burn. There are a lot of sugary elements in the sauce, so keeping it from burning by constantly stirring is extremely important. Strain the sauce to remove the chunks. Slather on everything Eat. Liberalism, Conservatism and the Tea Party: The Meaning of the 2012 Election
The 2008 election looked like the end of a 28-year conservative era, and the dawn of a liberal one. The results of the 2010 election put this judgment in doubt. Liberalism seems less ascendant than liberals expected it to be, conservatism less dead than conservatives feared. This is partly thanks to the Tea Party—which raises its own questions about the future of conservative thought. So one can say that, as the 2012 election approaches, New Deal/Great Society liberalism is in trouble, and Reagan–Bush conservatism seems not up to the task as well.
