An Ohio man is behind bars on a first-degree murder charge after allegedly shooting his 24-year-old daughter during an argument that reportedly stemmed from smoking inside the house. Authorities say 64-year-old Franklin Thompson “expressed zero remorse” when interviewed about the slaying of Rebecca Thompson. According to the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office, deputies found Thompson early Monday morning wandering a block away from his Sycamore Township home with a pistol in his pocket. Inside the residence, Thompson's 18-year-old daughter discovered Rebecca fatally wounded after multiple gunshots were fired. Prosecutors, citing Thompson's apparent lack of remorse, argued during his first court appearance that he posed a risk to the public. “If he's willing to do this to his own daughter, we're very concerned about what he'd be willing to do to a stranger if he were to be released,” they said. Neighbors said they considered Thompson a “nice guy” with no history of violence. Authorities, however, noted in a police report that Thompson had undergone a “recent brain operation” with “lasting issues,” though it is unclear how that may have factored into the shooting. Online records show Thompson has minor infractions on his record, including a 2023 trespassing arrest and a 2003 charge for stealing cable television. His wife divorced him in 2016, accusing him of abuse, though no arrests for domestic violence were ever made. Thompson, who lived with his daughters at a home allegedly opened fire around 1 a.m. Monday. Investigators say he admitted to shooting Rebecca “several times during a verbal interaction,” which prosecutors said “apparently revolved around smoking in the house.” A judge set Thompson's bond at $1 million Tuesday. He is due back in court on Feb. 6 when a grand jury will consider his case. Want to listen to ALL of our podcasts AD-FREE? She had been struggling as a parent, trying the same old things that we all do when we feel out of control and it had only made things worse. Turns out that all the fancy degrees in the world* didn't help, and that true change happened when she was able to let go of trying to “make” her son do what she wanted him to do and actually connect with him and his story. Finally, through a series of divine connections and healing opportunities, she could see her family was turning around and she wanted to share what she had learned with others who were ready to make a change. https://www.evolvewithoutlimits.com/ Rebecca Rising: How I found courage and self-love through friendship, coaching and conversations with the moon By Rebecca B. Thompson And Sunday at 8:30: Two Decades of Life Planning By Rebecca B. Thompson and Darlene Ryan Two Inspiring Books That Show A Way Through the Darkness to a Light-and-Spirit Filled Future Rebecca Thompson, then known as Becky, was, on the surface, living a picture-perfect life. A highly regarded engineer at Eastman Kodak in Rochester New York, three happy growing kids, a great house, couple of dogs and an attractive husband who was successful and sought after as a structural engineer. But all was actually far from perfect, he had an over- fondness for beer. While this didn't seem to be out of control in the first dozen years of their lives together, as his own business began to come apart, the drinking accelerated. In the aftermath of its dissolution, leaving Becky to clean up the financial mess, he uprooted the family to take a job in North Carolina. Becky, always steady, always reliable, always problem solving, always the perfect wife and mother, carried on-until his first DUI. And that's where Rebecca Rising begins....this powerful, novelistic and highly-readable memoir isn't so much the story of a marriage that comes apart, but the chronicle of a woman who slowly awakens to herself through the crucible of her marriage. But it is how she does it that makes this remarkable book so immensely interesting, compelling and actually, entertaining. Beginning as a typical, skeptical engineer, Becky had no experience, nor knowledge, nor faith in metaphysics or the magic of the soul. But "invitations" in the form of colleagues, coaches, classes, books, opportunities and amazing synchronicities orchestrated a gradual awareness that opened her up and began an exploration that ultimately excavated and elevated her true self. In a journey that took her through spiritual coaching, psychic readings, dowsing, Reiki, Tarot, shamanism, spirit animals and-- most astonishing--with conversations with the moon, the personification of the Goddess Diana, she found the courage to end her marriage and truly love herself. It's a valiant victory and you cheer for her as you share this very vividly told experience. And, ultimately, her final emergence as REBECCA, living her new life in California, a single, powerful and happy self-aware woman, following her own heart. But this story wouldn't also be as potent without the spotlight on the incredible decades of deep abiding friendship between Rebecca and Darlene Ryan that sustained Becky/Rebecca during all the darkest moments. And while it is threaded throughout Rebecca Rising, it comes into full focus in the book that they have written together: Sundays at 8:30: Two Decades of Life Planning. Drawn together at Kodak by their shared interests and similar personalities, they helped each other advance through the company, while developing a deep personal bond. But when they were introduced to the High Performance Management Technology process, which guided them to set very definitive plans and goals for the future from an intentional and visionary standpoint, they agreed to work the process as a duo, meeting in person twice a year, and on a call every Sunday night at 8:30... without fail. This book, told in alternating form by each woman, illuminates how that planning manifested growth and expansion for each of them in the following categories: Mental, Physical, Financial, Social, Home and Family, Career and Spiritual-over the course of two decades...and continues to this day. This lively, shorter book is filled with wisdom and is a tribute to their passionate commitment to the process and to each other. It's an ideal companion book to Rebecca Rising, but also stands on its own as a way to create your own personal expansion and an intentioned future.

This week's episode is about discovering joy in the midst of difficult times. Rebecca Thompson's newborn granddaughter was near death just as the world was beginning to grapple with the Covid pandemic.  Her home organizing business was shut down as was her husband's business. Like much of the world, they found themselves scrambling to do business online. During a lockdown walk in April 2020, Rebecca's husband introduced her to sea glass and after collecting for a week, she found out she had a talent for wiring jewelry and set off on a new and unplanned adventure, sharing her creations from an old converted bike shed to people all around the world. Rebecca is now a proud owner of her second business called the Sea Glass Company which not only sells unique and bespoke jewelry, but has expanded into other creative mediums.

During the pandemic, those at the top continued to make money while those at the bottom struggled. That’s especially true among minority households with the average white family having as much as eight times the wealth of people of color. That economic inequality hasn’t gone unnoticed, however, with many Americans agreeing it’s gone too far. But with legislation pending, help could be on the way. The coronavirus pandemic is only growing economic inequality Rebecca Thompson of Prosperity Now joins Kelly on this episode of the Taxgirl podcast to discuss how to shrink that disparity. From tax credits to encouraging both minority business and homeownership, Rebecca outlines things that can make an impact right now and how pending legislation could go even further. Listen to Kelly and Rebecca talk about economic inequality: What economic inequality means How economic inequality is split down racial lines What led to that inequality? How tax credits can boost homeownership What the American Opportunity Accounts Act would do The Child Tax Credit Getting advances on the Child Tax Credit Earned Income Tax Credit The VITA program How the stimulus bill could improve economic inequality More about Kelly Phillips Erb: Kelly is the creator and host of the new Taxgirl podcast series. Rebecca Thompson, then known as Becky, was, on the surface, living a picture-perfect life. A highly regarded engineer at Eastman Kodak in Rochester New York, three happy growing kids, a great house, couple of dogs and an attractive husband who was successful and sought after as a structural engineer. But all was actually far from perfect, he had an over- fondness for beer. While this didn’t seem to be out of control in the first dozen years of their lives together, as his own business began to come apart, the drinking accelerated. In the aftermath of its dissolution, leaving Becky to clean up the financial mess, he uprooted the family to take a job in North Carolina. Becky, always steady, always reliable, always problem solving, always the perfect wife and mother, carried on—until his first DUI.And that’s where Rebecca Rising begins….this powerful, novelistic and highly-readable memoir isn’t so much the story of a marriage that comes apart, but the chronicle of a woman who slowly awakens to herself through the crucible of her marriage. But it is how she does it that makes this remarkable book so immensely interesting, compelling and actually, entertaining.

Have you had major shake-ups in your life... feelings of intense loss, whether it be through personal relationships, work, or family dynamics, which led to profound disillusionment as you witnessed your life disintegrating? We all have, and it’s what we intend to create in our life that aids us in our “waking up” to a new and transformative life.       Rebecca Bea Thompson tells us the story of how she was a leader in corporate America, raised a family, and made a home with her husband, including the picket white fence. When her husband began drinking heavily, she knew she had to drastically change her life, and she did just that with great courage. She had to recognize and change her deep conditioning.     Rebecca was always taught to concern herself with what other people think. She was also heavily conditioned through her religious training that we all are flawed, and that once you are married you stay married no matter what, which she believed for many years. Those beliefs made it even more difficult for her to end a destructive relationship.     Join Robin Jillian and Rebecca as she shares with you the courageous steps she took to completely transform her life.     Rebecca is also the author of "Rebecca Rising: How I Found Courage and Self-Love Through Friendship, Coaching, and Conversations With the Moon."     Learn more about Awaken Radio at AwakenRadio.net

Today marks the official end of my September podcast every day during the month challenge.  And can I tell you a secret? I failed...spectacularly! I missed six full days of the challenge, and since this is my second daily challenge for the year, I technically failed in comparison to the challenge I completed in June.  But even though I missed six days of the challenge, I still came out ahead in terms of listener engagement, downloads and growth as a podcast host. Score! Which made me think about the way we sometimes label our efforts a failure if we aren't able to meet a very specific goal. But if we set a big goal that we plan to reach over time, if we move toward that goal but don't reach the goal we set, we still likely made significant process, and there's no reason to give up the goal all together. Progress is winning. If you have big goals for this year, the final quarter of the year is upon us! It's the final week to submit your application for the fall cohort of Package Your Genius Academy. Our sessions start October 8, and it's already shaping up to be a great group! I would love to extend a huge thank you to our PYG Academy alum Rebecca Thompson, founder of the Live in Your Light Bootcamp and Live in Your Light Summit. When you know your stuff and are a genius in your own right, your gift is likely more ready for the world than you think. It's up to you to stop overthinking it. I'm excited to share this conversation with a powerful woman who did just that. I met this tremendous being when she was on the cusp of a major life change and she enrolled in the Package Your Genius Academy fall 2018 cohort. Rebecca Thompson is a Clarity + Career Coach for bold, politically minded women. After losing her election for State Representative by just 6 votes on Election Day, she has made it her personal mission to help other women of color run for office and to create the life and career of their dreams. She is the Founder of the Live In Your Light Bootcamp, a personal development intensive that is inspiring a new generation of high achieving women to live authentically, purposefully, and in their light. Rebecca says she was burned out after the 2016 election and knew that she was being called to more. While she loved the training and leadership development components of her work, she wanted to phase out of the nastiness of politics. That's how the bootcamp was born. According to Rebecca, the timing for high achieving women of color to live in their light is year round. No matter what you see women achieving on the outside, inside they still struggle with limiting beliefs, negative self talk, and self doubt. This is what's keeping so many amazing women from walking in their purpose. Rebecca now helps her clients overcome imposter syndrome, create morning routines that start with powerful affirmations, get crystal clear about what they want their future to look and feel like, and surround themselves with people who light them up. On this episode we discuss: How Rebecca turned a losing political race into the fuel to start a new career path  Her struggle with depression and anxiety and how she nurtured herself back to wholeness How she shifted how she works How naming what you do aloud can give you permission to claim your new path The tell-tale signs that you need to do inner work How to re-ignite your hobbies and passions You can learn more about Rebecca, her Live in Your Light Bootcamp and her free 30 day affirmation challenge at RebeccaMThompson.com *** Applications are open for the next round of Package Your Genius Academy that starts in early May. Most of the women featured on the Happy Black Woman podcast are businesswomen; entrepreneurs who are building their dreams through a successful company. Today’s guest is a bit different. Rebecca Thompson is fulfilling her life-calling by championing a cause: black women in politics. Rebecca’s determination and spirit are a powerful demonstration of what can happen when black woman get energized toward public office. You will be inspired and encouraged - possibly even motivated to get involved in your community's politics - by listening to this episode of the podcast. The face of power tends to be male and it tends to be white. If you haven’t noticed how things are in this world, the faces of power tend to be male and they tend to be white. There’s nothing wrong with that - anyone can be an elected leader in the United States if they truly have the heart to serve the people. But those two facts do show us that the black community, and black women in particular, are underrepresented among the elected officials who have so much power in determining the course of our communities and nation. Rebecca’s realization of that fact is part of what motivated her to run for office and help other black women learn the skills needed to run for office in their jurisdictions. If you want to run for office you need to be clear about WHY you are doing it. There are many reasons you may want to run for office. But if you’re going to put yourself and your family into the public eye in that way you need to be clear on exactly WHY you are doing it. Rebecca Thompson says it’s essential because you will run into moments where it doesn’t seem that what you’re doing is worth it. Opponents will falsely accuse you. You will be slandered. The press will have unreasonable questions and demands. How are you going to persevere if that’s the case? You’ll do it by having a clear sense of WHY. Rebecca Thompson is Rosetta’s guest on this episode of Happy Black Woman. You don’t have to know how you’re going to raise the money. One of the major hurdles you’ll have to get past if you are going to run for elected office is the issue of money. You will need money to run a successful campaign - a LOT of it. How are you going to raise money if you don’t feel that you have a public persona already? Rebecca Thompson was in those exact shoes when she decided to run for office and her approach was much more successful than you might think it would be for a first-time candidate. Rebecca shares her fundraising strategy and tells the results of her demanding and powerful campaign, on this episode. What is your freedom worth to you? When Rosetta asked Rebecca Thompson about the ways she keeps herself on track in the midst of a busy life Rebecca said that she has to remind herself first of all that she’s working to maintain her own freedom. When that’s clear in her mind she has to ask herself a simple question and give an honest answer. “What is my freedom worth?” Is it worth missing a favorite TV show because she needs to work on an important project? Is it worth going to bed late or rising early? Those are the kinds of questions anyone has to ask themselves if they want a better life than they have - or if they want to make an impact like Rebecca does by encouraging black women in politics. How will our provincial government''s Third Way proposals for health care affect Albertans? What will happen to our system when patients can "buy their way" to the front of the line for certain services? Most criticism of the government''s plan has focused on obvious issues of equity, access and fairness. But there''s another big danger lurking in the shadows -- one that hasn''t received enough public attention. That''s the issue of substantially increased benefit costs for employers in the province. Gil McGowan, President of the Alberta Federation of Labour contends that the "third way" health-care reform package will force Alberta companies to spend more on employee benefits, thus creating a financial burden for business. Says McGowan: “Government and business should realize that, as the Medicare umbrella shrinks, employers are going to have to fill the holes that the Third Way will tear open in our health coverage. It will become a ''must do'' for businesses hoping to attract and retain quality employees.” Presenter: Gil McGowan is President of the Alberta Federation of Labour and a member of Communications, Energy and Paperworkers Union. He is author of three booklets on unions and the Alberta economy: Now More than Ever (1999); Missing Out on the Boom? (1998) and Crumbs from the Table (1997). Of particular note is his work between 1996 and 2003 with Friends of Medicare, where he was Communications Coordinator and a lead organizer and strategist for campaigns against Bill 37 and Bill 11 (bills aimed at legalizing for-profit hospitals in Alberta). McGowan organized some of the largest rallies in Alberta history, including major rallies against Bill 11 in Edmonton and Calgary. He is married with three children. Special note: Immediately after lunch, Rebecca Thompson, soprano, will treat those present to Dvorak''s "Song to the Moon".
