Such a wonderful interview, talking to The Master! It's great seeing a villain's face outside their character's persona, especially when it's an old strigoi that stands over seven feet tall. Robert Maillet has to be one of the most talented actors I know, leaving his thriving career as a professional wrestler to become an actor and to star in mega blockbuster movies such as 300, Sherlock Holmes, Pacific Rim, Deadpool 2, and The Immortals. He spoke about the makeup process for transitioning into The Master, some behind the scenes secrets, and what life was like on the set. I would definitely have to say that he nailed the role as The Master, and he is most definitely my favorite rendition. This gentle giant can take on any role that is given to him; Guillermo del Toro has certainly placed his trust in him, enough to have Robert come back to play roles in multiple movies written/directed by Guillermo. Although Robert is not acting at the moment, be sure to check him out in the movies mentioned above. This man is definitely the embodiment of talent! --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/southjerseyhorror/message

It's rare our host gets a chance to talk wrestling with a guest who also has a unique career in film and television as well! Robert Maillet is a Canadian actor and retired professional wrestler. He is known for his time in the World Wrestling Federation from 1997 to 1999, where he performed under the ring name Kurrgan and was a member of The Truth Commission and The Oddities. He is also known for his roles in films such as 300, Sherlock Holmes, Immortals , Pacific Rim, Brick Mansions, Hercules), Becky and Deadpool 2. André and Robert talk about the cutthroat world of professional wrestling, working with Guillermo Del Toro and the empathetic nature of his character which make him open to diverse and interesting roles and transferred to his new career in corrections.

On this episode of Queen Venerator, guest Steve Vitangeli comes on to discuss "Room for Squares", the debut album by John Mayer, the 2020 action/horror movie Becky, and the 2021 TV show Young Rock (kind of). We also discuss the wrestling career of Robert Maillet, Steve's extreme loathing of Neutral Milk Hotel, and a plethora of '90s radio rock bands.
To cap off Femme Fatale February, we are slipping a spit-covered pinky finger into your ears in the form of a review of Becky. Yeah, remember that movie that came out in June of last year? I think that was during the "murder hornet" phase of that dumpster fire of a year. So, being realistic, you probably didn't see it. Wanna find out if you should? Why not listen to us ramble about it? The movie stars Lulu Wilson as Becky Hooper. Lulu has been in tons of horror movies, for a kid who is not legally allowed to see them unattended in a theater. Not that anyone would want to go to a disease-ridden theater right now anyway. Her works include Deliver Us from Evil (2014), Ouija: Origin of Evil (2016), Annabelle: Creation (2017), and The Haunting of Hill House (2018). Opposite Lulu, is Kevin James as Dominick. Before this movie, the closest James came to the horror genre was Hotel Transylvania and that time Peter Boyle guested on King of Queens. Joel McHale plays Jeff Hooper, the titular Becky's dad. He was also in Deliver Us from Evil. I guess the closest to horror he would have been aside from that is The Happytime Murders. Meh. Reformed pro-wrestler, Robert Maillet, is Apex. We briefly discuss his in ring career, his gimmicks, and his acting roles which include the films Monster Brawl, Septic Man, and Lexx. The film was directed by the duo of Jonathan Milott and Cary Murnion. They previously did Cooties (2014) and Bushwick (2017). We talk about their directing style, homage, and editing choices. We also go into the unique distribution for the film, given the ongoing pandemic. If you ever have feedback or recommendations on future episodes, please let us know at slasherspod@gmail.com. This is a movie that is definitely not for everybody. My wife is still mad for watching it with me. If you are opposed to graphic violence, and I do mean Graphic with a capital G this is not for you. If you are uncomfortable with a 13 year old girl taking out bad guys in the most imaginably gruesome ways possible, you will want to take a pass. But if you can imagine Kevin, in Home Alone, instead of hitting Joe Pesci in the face with a paint can on a rope, giving him a colonoscopy with a chainsaw and that doesn't bother you, then you can put this squarely in the “guilty pleasure” column. The movie has an interesting start. We flash back and forth between Becky at school and a prison. As a fight is going on at school there is a fight in the prison yard. As Becky, played by Lulu Wilson, is being picked up from school by her dad Jeff, played by Joel McHale, prisoners are getting in a prisoner transport truck. The scene switches back and forth and it is really a cool effect. Becky has lost her mom to cancer and she is filled with rage about it. To make matters worse as they arrive at their cabin on the lake they are joined by Jeff's girlfriend Kayla, played by Amanda Brugel and her little boy Ty, played by Isaiah Rockcliffe. Then Jeff announces that they are getting married. This is more than Becky can take. She runs off into the woods to a shed where she hangs out. During this time four violent prisoners have escaped from the transport truck and they find their way to the cabin. The leader of these neo-Nazis is Dominick, played by none other than Kevin James, complete with a huge swastika tattoo on the back of his shaved head. Talk about playing against type. It may take people a few minutes to get used to Paul Blart as a cruel, manipulating, murdering Nazi. The other 3 consist of humongous Apex, played by Robert Maillet, and 2 other guys that we don't know, and will probably never see again, who are just here for the slaughter. They are like the guys with red shirts on the Star Trek, no point in learning their names. Dominic is at this cabin for something he hid there that is of great importance to him. When he can't find it he realizes Becky must have it and he starts torturing her dad until Becky brings it to him. Sadly for Dominic he's been in prison with murders, robbers, deviants, and serial killers. That does not prepare someone to face a 13 year old girl Having not raised one, he has no idea that prison is not built to keep us safe from him, it is built to keep him safe from pissed off girls 13-17, the most dangerous creatures on this planet. And to make it worse he has her cell phone. The movie is 93 minutes, Rated R for bloody violence, grisly images, I truly can't believe what they did with an eyeball, and language. Honestly I still can't get past the eyeball. This is the first dramatic role for Kevin James, much less playing a neo-Nazi. Some people may not be able to see past the other characters he has played, but from the first scene of him in the prison yard, I was sold. But as good as he was, Lulu Wilson was fantastic. She is headed for way bigger things than this low budget revenge movie. If you like a revenge movie that is really graphic you'll like this. If you are squeamish, just skip it and watch Toy Story or something. My Score: 4 Budweisers Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

Movie Meltdown - Episode 318 So are we on the RED carpet with Doug Jones? No, that's not how we roll. Here at Movie Meltdown, we'd much rather set up camp on the floor and just share some stories. So that's what we do... this week we settle in for an intimate and relaxed hang out session with Doug Jones as we discuss some of the amazing projects he's worked on over the years as well as what he's been up to lately. And as we figure out the logistics for our group photo/cuddling assemblage, we also mention...
