Michelle Klisanich is a Wealth Advisor for Financially Wise Divorce, a hybrid advisory firm based out of Minnesota that oversees $87-million in assets under management for 91 households. Michelle stands out by effectively applying insights gained from multiple business coaches throughout her career, enabling her to precisely target and market to her desired clientele—women undergoing divorce. This focus allows her to transition these women into long-term advisory clients, with whom she builds deep, enduring relationships. Listen in as Michelle shares how she developed a structured process to guide clients through divorce, linking them with pre-vetted professionals and providing a roadmap for life post-divorce, while ensuring they are interested in ongoing advisory relationships. She discusses leveraging her early career challenges and business coaching to specialize in divorce planning, using online networking to build influential connections and streamline her client base from 350 to 90 focused, profitable relationships. Michelle also reflects on how her personal divorce experience inspired her to help similar women, overcoming "impostor syndrome" by gaining confidence through small wins and recommending that newer advisors learn from experienced colleagues to navigate early career challenges. For a generation or more, those who lead the narratives of societies and cultures have manipulated the public into consumerism and compliance through a litany of untrue but well told and oft repeated stories. The lack of clarity and honesty has eroded trust into nothing. Leaders must recommit to the consistency of truth and transparency. Do you feel like there is a LOT more potential in your business that you just aren’t tapping into? As women business owners, we are often busy ALL THE TIME. We don’t find time to even think about planning or strategic thinking. We find ourselves slogging away IN the business without much focus at all to working ON the business. And, while we INTEND to give ourselves every chance to be successful, we are often not doing the ONE THING that could make the big difference to turning our business around. In this episode, I take you back to a point in time over 20 years ago when I took one specific action that saw me take my business from $300K to over $1 million in under 12 months. Listen to hear about this simple but powerful act that turned my business around. In this episode: How taking some time out to think bigger tripled my revenue The critical mindset shift we had to make to go from a six-figure to a seven-figure business How the act of declaring a goal helped shape our future The questions to ask yourself to get more clarity about your future direction And more. Last month my home was the feature story in Australian House & Garden, the leading home design magazine in the country. Pretty cool, yes? The house looks fantastic, and the story was ten pages of prime real estate in a magazine with hundreds of thousands of subscribers. Plus, we got some bonus exposure when they decided to do a question, and answer story with me, asking me about my inspirations, HerBusiness, and my design likes and dislikes. They also included our business name and my personal story, which is publicity that would typically cost $$$$$$$ to buy. I love my home, and it looked gorgeous in the magazine. I’ve lived there for seven years now. But when we bought it, it was an old warehouse, dilapidated and in need of gutting and rebuilding. We put a lot of love and effort and heart into it and a lot of our vision. We had a team of people - architects, builders, tradespeople, designers all working with us to help make the final product the mirror of what we imagined our home to look like when finished. And, every single day, I appreciate my home. I appreciate the light. Space. The location. The rooms that I love to entertain. The rooms that I chill out. We designed each room very deliberately. And it’s not just really functional for my lifestyle; it’s also impressive to look at. And the House and Garden publishers loved it. But, here’s the thing. There was a WHOLE LOT that was happening behind the scenes that DIDN’T make it into the magazine. When was the last time you took time away from your usual environment? With COVID having put the brakes on any major travel, many business owners have been working harder than ever without a break. With so many working from home, it means that you're in the same environment day in, day out. This COULD be stifling your creativity and ability to have breakthrough ideas for your business. Some of my most productive creative writing, content creation and breakthrough ideas come to me when I spend time away from my desk. I'm often surprised by the bolts of clarity that come to me when I'm on the beach, in the shower, or out running or walking. Being in a new location is a different experience to moving my laptop, say, from my head office (a brick-and-mortar office) to my home office. Or moving from the dining table to the kitchen bench to work. Working from a whole new environment seems to have my brain functioning in different ways. I'm writing this as I'm seated at the dining table looking out at sunset through the glass doors that look out to the back of the house that I've rented for 10 days. And, while today I've had multiple meetings and handled quite a few communications and tasks, my workdays this week will be topped and tailed by a walk on the beach. It's HEAVEN for me, an inner-city dweller ;-) to walk on the sand and hike on the local trails morning and night. I'm inspired to stay outdoors. And, throughout the day, I find myself giving myself permission to take short breaks. To sit in the sun with my lunch. To take 5 mins away from the screen to stare at the ocean or pat the dog. Only a few days into this break, I started to feel re-energised. I can feel the ideas for my new marketing project brewing... waiting to spill forth when I sit down for a day of planning later this week. I share this with you to encourage you to find time to take a break away from your routine. Because there is great power in pausing. Like Thomas Friedman quotes in his book, Thank You for Being Late. When you press the pause button on a machine, it stops. But, when you press the pause button on human beings, they start. You start to reflect, you start to rethink your assumptions, you start to reimagine what is possible and, most importantly, you start to reconnect with your most deeply held beliefs." Today I have a VERY special treat for you. Maybe you’ve noticed... ... membership and subscription businesses are thriving. Even in the midst of a massive pandemic, companies worldwide are having to shift and adjust to the new economy. And those who have incorporated subscriptions and membership business models are seeing massive growth. Why? It’s actually quite simple. Because a membership business model establishes predictable and reliable income month after month, regardless of a shaking economy. And right now… who doesn’t need that?! If you want the blueprint for how to create a membership business of your own, then you’re in the right place. Because my special guest today is membership site expert, Stu Mclaren of the TRIBE Experience. In this interview, we talk about how you can get clients paying you every single month. When you create a membership inside of your business you create reliable revenue every single month... and the best news is that you can build a successful membership business around what you already, know, love, and do! And you can do it whether you sell products or services... and, whether you have low-cost offers, or high-priced consulting. I’ve had a membership-based business for over 25 years and I swear by this business model, beyond any other (and I’ve had a few), because it makes for a more predictable income. Every. Single. Month. Stu McLaren is well known around the online business industry as the leading membership expert (he’s also been a mentor of mine for the last four years). I am a big fan of Stu’s because not only is the go-to guy for savvy business owners who want to launch a successful membership… even if they are starting from scratch. Stu’s strategies and insights are proven and have helped thousands of people — including many of HerBusiness Network members — helping them to jumpstart thriving memberships across thousands of different niches. As you’ll hear in this interview, the best part of growing a membership is that you don’t need a big email list to achieve success with a membership. You don’t need to be super-savvy with tech. And you don’t need a huge social media following either. All you need is passion and motivation to serve a specific group of people. With Stu’s teachings, you can leverage your passion and the experience you already have to create steady and predictable income every month. “My biggest challenge is finding the time to market and pitch myself outside of paid projects. I know I need to do it to ensure a consistent pipeline of clients in future, but I can't shake this weird feeling of guilt and worry when I'm not working on tasks that I can't invoice.” I loved this question from HerBusiness Member, Brittany, because it’s a trap that we can ALL fall into. We sell something and then we spend time delivering it. And that delivery time can be really intense, especially if you’re a solopreneur. While you’re busy making "the thing", delivering the training, doing the consultation, presenting the brief, doing the copy-editing, designing the website etc. etc., you have little time to focus on getting new clients. Clients want their jobs. And they want them now. And there’s just you, doing all the things. Maybe there’s someone helping you, but the responsibility of delivering the product or service is still squarely on your shoulders. Meanwhile, the pipeline of potential new clients isn’t being filled and you can find yourself in a cash flow crisis and with lumpy cash flow. So, how do you move away from good months and bad months to also working on projects that don’t immediately put money in your pocket? In this episode, I share the three areas that we focus on to ensure that we are at all times attracting, converting AND keeping our ideal clients. It’s a simple, yet powerful way to think about your business. If it ever feels like you have too many promotions to focus on and share and market, it might be time to simplify your marketing plan. What I’ve found is that MORE promotions don’t necessarily lead to better results. When we analysed our marketing activity, we found that some of our seemingly successful promotions didn’t deliver the RIGHT results. On the surface, they looked great. But when we dug in, we could see that they didn’t do the main job they were meant to, which was to sell our Core Offer. We know that marketing and marketing campaigns take ENERGY and EFFORT. There are landing pages, copywriting, emails, automation, lead boxes, popups, website banner, social media copy and images, printing, internal systems and procedures, scripts and videos and Facebook lives etc. And more often than not, all the effort doesn’t translate to sales or conversions. In this episode, I introduce you to the 3-part “Back of the Napkin Marketing Plan”, a simple but effective template that helps you decide which marketing activity to keep and what you can let go of. Listen to discover: How to create a one-page “Back of the Napkin” marketing plan Which marketing campaign to cut and which to keep Why knowing your Core Offer makes it easier to know how to attract more of your ideal clients. How a Back-End Upsell becomes easy when you focus on aligning your high-end products and services with your Core Offer Why freeing up your time to focus on a few things will give you a greater return on investment Here are some popular recent episodes: A Case of the “I Don’t Want Tos” Sit Your Butt Down On a Chair and Get Unstuck 3 Ways to Get a Steady Flow of Referrals The Energy That Makes Things Happen HerBusiness Facebook Page: https:/facebook.com/HerBusiness/ HerBusiness Network for Women Business Owners: herbusinessnetwork.com

Why is it that some women have a rich ready-made network of people who send them business all the time, while others feel isolated and stuck with nobody to do business with. I asked hundreds of women business owners what they felt were some of the big stumbling blocks for them getting new clients. And so many of them said they were not getting enough referrals. They said things like: "People aren't sending people my way." Referrals make doing business so much easier. Referrals are free. And, when you use our proven three-part system for getting referrals, it means that there's always someone waiting to do business with you. Whether you are just starting out in business and looking to establish your client base and decide who your ideal clients are, but you aren't getting a lot of new customers and or referrals… Or, you've been in business for a while, you've already got great products and services, but you want more people referring you… This episode gives you a more reliable way to get referrals and repeat business and be matched with the partners, alliances and suppliers... I’m excited to have Abel James here with me today. I love the story about how he started and how it’s led him to where he is today. He’s also gone through many struggles and ups and downs, but he’s come out on the other side, ready to take on the next challenge, take action, and make things happen. It was a great interview and will show you that you never know where your journey will lead you. Let’s get right to it and learn from Abel!    Abel’s Entrepreneurial Start    I loved the saxophone in elementary school and learned to play at a young age. Music was very important to me, growing up and helped me build confidence and become the great speaker that I am today.    In my teens, I was selling things on eBay and selling my music online, too, and have always had an entrepreneurial start.   After college, I worked as a strategist and got my business chops going. However, I wasn’t healthy and ended up being really sick for a long time. I was overweight and didn’t eat well. During that time, I actually ended up losing everything in an apartment fire in Texas. After hitting rock bottom I realized that I needed to make a change and started to research how to live a healthier lifestyle and spent a lot of time doing research to find the best methods for me.  Be Prepared to Pivot At Anytime    Everyone gets burnt out eventually. For me personally, I’ve had multiple career paths, but I’ve created transferable skills that I can take with me no matter what industry or niche I’m working in. It’s important to see the waves and catch them when you can. However, there are times when the rug will be pulled right out from under you. In these moments, you’ve got to be ready for anything and to move on to a new path.    When you work online, you always have to be able to adapt because things are always changing. We’ve gone through multiple business models because things never stay the same. Just stay positive and keep moving forward.    Get out there and go to conferences and meetups, even virtually. It’s so important to build relationships and networks so you can help each other to grow. Your network will be able to help you when you need to pivot.  Abel’s Transition to the Fat-Burning Man    In my 20’s I was following the wrong advice and was getting really sick all the time. When I started shifting my research I realized that I needed to change my lifestyle. I spent a lot of time interviewing people and coming up with my own health plan and within a month I saw a significant change and felt so much better overall.    I started running marathons for a while and realized that it wasn’t that hard to achieve those results. I’ve learned a lot about fueling through nutrition and realize just how important it is. My podcast took off fairly quickly once I started it. I had a lot of listeners and had some great people on the show even in the early days.    I had to deal with getting a roof over my head and making money at the same time as I was working on my business. I was working remotely part-time as a consultant until I was able to make enough money doing my business. I did my “passion project” for free for about two years before I was able to focus on it full time. I knew that I could make this type of business consistent if I put all my energy on it. You always need to make sure that you find a balance between doing what you love and providing for your family. How He Created a Steady Flow of Business    I had to determine what type of business model I wanted to get started. The most successful for me is a digital course that is priced at $27, brought in my organic traffic and podcast. The other one is a subscription-based coaching program. That really worked for a long time. When you charge people for a subscription service, you have to show up because people will expect the very best from you.   When you’re the face of your business, you have to keep your business up and continue to make money, which can be difficult. Building business and alternative streams of business is a whole thing. When you hit milestones, there will always be another one. We love the clime and always want to keep growing and improving.    If you think it’s right to pivot overnight, go for it. It’s really important to follow your heart.    It’s important to work together and help each other become successful too. Some of the best friends I’ve made I have given “trade secrets” to and have wanted to help.    Don’t always think of the people around as competition, instead learn from each other.   Abel’s Take Action Moment    Saying no at the beginning for anything that was over the line ethically. I started a brand that could have easily made a ton of money, but that’s not why I did it. I didn’t want to do anything that would put my morals in jeopardy. It’s important to protect our audience and only give them quality information that is beneficial.  Abel’s Advice For People Getting Their Start Now    I'm actually so envious of people who are just starting out because you can be free and do things your way right now. People are making hundreds of millions of dollars doing venture capital and paying for traffic but have no soul, and they probably aren't as happy. Make sure you're doing what you love and don't lose sight of who you are. Find what you're natural talents are and build on those from the very start.   The digital space is getting very competitive, but you'll do well if you can get the traffic or sell a subscription-based product. However, keep in mind that the rug can be pulled out of you at any point. I would recommend building an audience and monetizing from there. That's what I would do if I was starting over right now.    You can't just have sales. You still have to pay for your employees and other expenses every single month. It's really challenging to make that happen even if you're making a lot of money. When you're starting out, you don't have a lot of overhead, which is a bonus. I would build a community from the very start and provide value where you can.    Just because you see people at the top and be successful, they’re still having issues and have to adapt often.  Final Word From Scott   What a great guy! I loved getting to know Abel and about his journey. I agree with what he said about taking care of ourselves as entrepreneurs so we can take care of other people. It can be challenging when we’re busy, but he’s proof that it’s possible.    Think about how you can relate to his story and learn how he just took action even though he didn’t know what the final result would be. It’s not just about marketing and business. It’s about how he’s taken his situation and turned it into a successful business.    As always I am here for you, I believe in you and am rooting for you!   It’s time for you to take action and go rock your brand!     Take-Aways From Today’s Episode Abel’s Entrepreneurial Start 5:20 Be Prepared to Pivot At Anytime 12:21 Abel’s Transition to the Fat-Burning Man 18:24 How He Created Steady Flow of Business 26:07 Abel’s Take Action Moment 33:30 Abel’s Advice For People Getting Their Start Now 41:53   Quote: Build a community from the very start and provide value where you can.  Or Don’t always think of the people around as competition, instead learn from each other and help each other grow.

The 6-Figure Freelancer Podcast | Freelancing | Entrepreneurship | Clients | Finances | Motivation | Personal Development | M

This is going to be a bit of a niche episode. As many of you know, I'm getting married soon, and all of the planning that needs to happen around this wedding can get to be a little much at times. I know I'm not the only entrepreneur out there planning a wedding (or planning one in the near future). Today we'll explore how to get all of the planning done while running your business and staying sane at the same time. If you're walking down the aisle soon, the tips in this episode might just make your big day a little easier. “The reason we get overwhelmed with tasks is because we don't see clarity. We don't see when it's all going to get done. Having a project management system is essential.” In this episode Avani talks about: How she manages all of her due dates and tasks for the wedding. Her strategies around time management for wedding-related tasks. How she relies on herself and people she trusts to get everything done. 1. Treat planning like a client or job It will be difficult for you to remember all the things you have to do before a wedding, so a great strategy is to treat it like a job. Get a task management tool and write down all your tasks with due dates. That will help you stay on top of everything that needs to happen. 2. Prioritize Certain aspects of your wedding might not need as much attention as others. Figure out what you need to do and what you can delegate to other people (like your fiancé) to take care of. This way the important parts of your wedding will turn out the way you want. 3. Theme your days This is a trick I pulled over from my business. Block time (days or hours) to dedicate to wedding planning. This way you're not throwing it in-between your business tasks, but instead putting yourself in a zone of working on wedding things. 4. Ask for help It's okay to ask for help, especially if you're running a business and trying to plan for a wedding. Find the people that you can trust to help you plan and see if they would be willing to take a couple of tasks off your plate. 5. Take care of yourself Make sure that you are taking care of you. A great way is to let little things slide and focus on behavior that is rewarding, such as eating healthy and exercising. The 6-Figure Freelancer Podcast | Freelancing | Entrepreneurship | Clients | Finances | Motivation | Personal Development | M

I work hard to have a positive mindset every day. But sometimes it's just not enough and the stress ends up getting the better of me. With running my business, planning my wedding, and moving, I've been overwhelmed and stressed as of late. Even though my life is stressful right now, it's a great opportunity to talk about how to effectively manage stress when you're running your own business. In today's episode, I'll review four tips for managing your stress. Some are mental, some are physical, and all of them are important. If you've ever dealt with stress, this is the episode for you. “A lot of times managing stress starts with having a foundational practice or foundational principles that you can go back to easily.” In this episode Avani talks about: What stress actually is and how it affects our bodies. Strategies for mentally dealing with stress. What you can do physically to combat stressful periods and bring them into check. 1. Meditate Meditate every day, even if it's just for a minute or two. It's a great way to center yourself and remember that there is beauty in being still, and that there are good things to be thankful for. 2. Look at the big picture If you're not a heart surgeon (or something similar), your average day doesn't mean life or death for someone. There's something comforting in remembering that what you do probably won't affect the outcome of the world that much. Keep things in perspective! 3. Breathe and align your mind and body Take four deep breaths while counting in your head at the same time. It's a great way to realign your body and mind it's also a great strategy for when you're actively feeling stressed. It's very anchoring and comforting. 4. Do something for you Whether it's a hobby or a sport or an artistic expression, make sure you're doing something that you want to do at least once a week. It's important to make sure that you're taking care of your desires as well as other people's, otherwise you just keep building stress. Tips on how to attract a steady flow of ideal clients with Dov Gordon We call ourselves the Alchemist Entrepreneur precisely because we get below the surface to ... We're not skidding across the surface. We can skid across the surface of our understanding, or we can strike at the root where the masses are hacking at the leaves. We can build on the underlying structure of a situation. We eventually get to simplicity on the far side of complexity. The only three questions in the mind of the ideal client is should I pay attention? Is it interesting? When you've got me interested, can I trust you? And is what you recommend right for me? Instead of just being overwhelmed with ideas, you realize, okay, what is one thing I can do for each of these [questions above] and that's what I'm all about. All we're ever thinking about is a problem that we have and don't want and/or a result we want and don't have. Be clear as to who's the ideal client? What's the problem they have? Speak that aloud in a way that is clear, and usually clearer than they are thinking it themselves. What gets me excited is the things that don't change, timeless principles. Mastery. Master your craft. We've got to master and more deeply understand things we already know rather than go off and look for more information. _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ HOW TO ATTRACT A STEADY FLOW OF IDEAL CLIENTS [just click to tweet] HOW TO ATTRACT A STEADY FLOW OF IDEAL CLIENTS The only three questions in the mind of the ideal clients are is it interesting? Can I trust you? And, is what you recommend right for me? _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ Doug: Well, welcome back, listeners, to another episode of Real Marketing Real Fast. Today, I think you're going to enjoy the conversation. Our guest today in studio is Dov Gordon. He shared a lot of valuable information. I'm just going to give you just a snippet, an insight on a couple of things he's going to cover in terms of messaging to see if we're going in the right direction attracting clients. He said that basically, people, there are two issues that people are dealing with. They have a problem that they don't want and they're looking for a result that we want and they don't have. Dov has been in business for a number of years and he helps coaches and consultants get ideal clients consistently. We know that there's millions and millions of consultants and coaches, like me and like probably many of you, that are really good at what you do. But, you don't have a personality style to be somebody else that's a charismatic guru-type and many people don't want that style. But, they love what they do. All they're really looking is a consistent flow of good clients who value their expertise and who value the people that they're working with as well. And, they want to get paid well. Dov and his small team take a tactical or tactic-agnostic approach, which if you've heard me before, I totally support, and they help you build a strong strategic foundation and teach you how to apply that to build a simple, client-getting system that is best for you. Without further ado, I want to invite Dov on my podcast and get us started and let him share with you how you too can look at developing a system to consistently bring you clients that you like working with that will pay you well. Dov, welcome to the Real Marketing Real Fast podcast today. Hey, Dov. I'm super excited to have you on the show today. You came recommended on the arm of a trusted friend, so I'm glad that Cindy introduced us. Welcome to the Real Marketing Real Fast podcast. Dov Gordon: Thanks for having me, Doug. Excited to be here. I've been following your stuff, so it's good to get to talk. Doug: It is and it's great to talk to somebody that's not geographically next door, that's living in a different part of the world in a different culture and experiencing ... We squash old desperate sales tactics and provide you with new heart centered tips to turn your clients into repeat partners.   As entrepreneurs and freelancers, the drive to survive can oftentimes cloud our judgment and stress us out. This, in turn, can make us money hungry, desperate and forgetful of our WHY.  In my previous episode Stepping Into Your Magic with Liz White we discuss the concept of the Law of Attraction, and how our positive or negative thoughts attract positive or negative experiences. When it comes to our client relationships the Law of Attraction holds true. If we breath life, love and care into our client relationships, we can establish strong foundations that allow us to grow and develop together overtime.   This episode is superb for anyone terrified if closing a deal, making a sale or kicking off a client relationship. Please comment below if you put these tips into play and tell us about your experience! Also, if you have other client relationship techniques please share :)   Head to the website to listen to Building Long-Term Relationships for Client Retention with Melissa Huisman or click “Listen Now” below!
