Hannah Diviney is a writer, disability advocate, actress, screenwriter, author and media personality. Her disability advocacy has garnered global attention thanks to both a viral petition encouraging Disney to create a disabled Disney Princess and a successful campaign encouraging both Lizzo and Beyonce to change ableist lyrics. As if that wasn't enough, she also made television history as the first disabled person in Australia to do a sex scene on television in the SBS series, ‘Latecomers' and she's joining Em to talk about some of those things plus her feature film debut in the new dark comedy ‘Audrey'. Together they'll discuss what it was like to see Marissa Bode as the first disabled actor to play the role of Nessarose in ‘Wicked' and then interview her afterwards as well. We'll also talk about what it's like to be in her first feature film, how she secured the role and even how the script was changed to reflect her abilities as well. Hannah is utterly hilarious as well and they both connect over their shared love of awkward conversations and Em's belief that Hannah needs to get her sit down comedy career underway as well. It's the moment SOME of us thought would never happen, and that some of us is Em, because AS IF this would ever happen! How could it be possible that Em would get to sit across from Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, two sing-gers, and the leads of the new movie version of her all time favourite musical Wicked? Somehow, Em not only got to do chats with Cynthia and Ariana, who play Elphaba & Glinda in the movie, but also Marissa Bode who plays Elphaba's sister Nessarose, and Ethan Slater, who's Ariana Grande's boyfriend and also appears in the film as the lovable munchkin Boq. Watch or listen as Em keeps Cynthia and Ariana entertained throughout their chat, from informing them of the neurodivergent love of the musical, to giving them props for the final result and so much more. Then there's Em's chat with Marissa and Ethan, where they reveal how they found out they were cast in the Wicked movie and a heap of other stuff too. On this episode I talked with Erica about her journey into theater, being inspired by magical worlds in books like Percy Jackson and Harry Potter, her desire to perform, being influenced by memorable performances like Meryl Streep in "Mamma Mia!”, seeing "The Lion King" tour in Honolulu as a child, her school trip to New York in middle school, where she saw both "Memphis" and "Wicked,” the influence Jennifer Lawrence's acting in The Hunger Games had on her and wanting to play Katniss if The Hunger Games ever became a musical, her experience at The University Of Michigan including productions she was in of "The Wolves" and "Merrily We Roll Along,” her audition process for “Wicked,” joining the cast with multiple other new leads and how that made the rehearsal process special, how she makes the character of Nessarose her own as well as how she's similar and different to Nessarose, her dream roles, creating her own Percy Jackson Podcast called “Seaweed Brain Podcast” where she and her co-host have interviewed cast members from the new show, and much more!
Eden Espinosa's performance as Tamara in “Lempicka” garnered her a Tony Award nomination for Best Actress in a Musical…and she's not guilty about it. She highlights both the triumphs and tribulations of her career – from being a part of Colby's Clubhouse and working at Disneyland when she was young to dealing with rejections and criticisms. Maybe best known for her role in “Wicked”, she shares how she got involved with the show (thanks to fellow Disney performer Stephanie J. Block) and why chose to be a standby over understudy. She delves into her recent role in the musical "Lempicka", how she auditioned for the part, and why ever since then, she made sure it was in her contract that if she had to be replaced, they'd have to pay her. She opens up about the challenges faced by the production, including dealing with its unexpected closing. She reflects on the importance of authentic representation, particularly in portraying queer characters, and the responsibility she feels to honor such roles. Eden shares a memorable interaction with an audience member during the show's final performance, where she broke character to address a disruptive phone use incident. Despite the show's sudden closing, Eden's motivation to connect with others in any way, shape, or form is definitely not going anywhere. Eden Espinosa made her Broadway debut in 2003 in the original cast of “Wicked” as the Elphaba standby and Nessarose understudy. She also garnered critical acclaim playing Elphaba full-time in the sit-down productions in Los Angeles and San Francisco. She originated the lead role in the show “Brooklyn” in 2004, before going on to the closing company of “Rent” as Maureen in 2008. She graced the screen with roles in shows like “Rapunzel's Tangled Adventure”, and “Alice's Wonderland Bakery” for which she earned an Emmy nomination for her portrayal of Queen of Hearts in 2022. She has two complete solo albums to her name, “Look Around” and “Revelation”, and most recently, her performance in the world premiere of “Lempicka” garnered her a Tony Award nomination for Best Actress in a Musical. This week, Jacob sits down with fellow actor Adam Jacobs. Adam's big break came with the opportunity to play “Marius” in the national tour of Les Miserables. This job led to him being cast in the Broadway revival and his subsequent Broadway debut. Within the short 14 months that the show played the Broadhurst Theater, he had the benefit of working with many Broadway veterans including Lea Salonga, Judy Kuhn, Gary Beach, Daphne-Rubin Vega, Norm Lewis, Ann Harada, Aaron Lazar (seen in photo), among many others. Since Les Miserables, he has journeyed from the islands of Mamma Mia! to the African pridelands of The Lion King. He's gone from the tropics of Once On This Island to the Arabian deserts of Aladdin. His mixed ethnicity has allowed him to play varied roles, and he thanks his parents for their whole-hearted encouragement to pursue a life in the arts. Adam, his wife Kelly, and their sons Jack and Alex now make their home in Chicago. After touring for two years with the first national tour of Disney's Mary Poppins as a dance captain and swing, Kelly happily joined the Broadway company and stayed with it until its closing in 2013. Adam's younger sister, Arielle Jacobs, is also a well-known actress who has had success in theater. After playing “Gabriella” in the national tour of Disney's High School Musical, she starred as “Nina” in the Broadway production and first national tour of In The Heights, played “Nessarose” in the Broadway company of Wicked, and is currently playing “Jasmine” in Aladdin at the New Amsterdam Theater. “It is difficult to get a man to understand something, when his salary depends on him not understanding it.” If we looked at the industry like a cell, Jen Waldman would be the mitochondria, or the powerhouse. With a lustrous career on stage, Jen began to venture into other facets in the industry breaking down barrier after barrier as an acting teacher - acting coach - leadership coach - podcaster - business owner - director/choreographer. “When it's working at it's best,” Waldman says of her outlook on theatre, “I think of theatre as really responsible and relevant story telling with an eye on the impact that you seek to have not only on the audience, but the audience's audience.” Not everything needs to be loaded with emotion, pathos, or drama, but we do need to hold ourselves accountable when creating theatre. Jen continues how when she sees theatre, she tries to go on a day where there is a talkback available in hopes of continuing the circular experience of taking responsibility, unpacking the story as a community, and calling yourself in for how one sees the show. In this episode we speak about theatrical environments, multi-hyphenate potential, how a Swing on Broadway is a multi-hyphenate in itself, the individual journey, and how the industry can prevent the growth and experience of the multi-hyphenate. And speaking of the stunting of the multi-hyphenate experience, Waldman goes in on how the multi-hyphenate potential is there for everyone and it is infuriating the way our industry has tried to dissuade people from having multiple pursuits. This episode is incredibly inspiring to any artist at any level, so dive into Jen Waldman's incredible outlook and be inspired to get to work, no matter the ways show business tries to silence your impulses. This episode also features a question from Luisa L. which touches on burnout in the segment You Got A Question. Jen is the founder of Jen Waldman Studio, a creative home and training studio for professional theatre Artists . On March 12, 2020, when Broadway shut down, JWS Artists were appearing in 14 Broadway shows. On April 5, 2020, JWS moved its entire operations online and is now a creative home to theatre Artists in 39 states and 13 countries. Jen brings her 20+ years of Broadway experience into the world of business and served as the Artistic Director of the Hangar Theatre and as the Artistic Director of Breaking Bread Theatre Company. She served a 5 year term as the Theatre Chair for the National YoungArts Foundation, and was awarded a Proclamation from the City of New York in 2009 for her work galvanizing the Broadway community in support of marriage equality. She has directed and choreographed productions at theatres across the country. Earlier in her career, Jen worked as an actor, appearing on Broadway in Titanic and Wicked, also touring the US as Nessarose, the Wicked Witch of the East. In her personal life, Kelli is married to Jarrod Spector, another actor in the Broadway community who is known for his recent project, playing Sonny Bono in The Cher Show on Broadway alongside former podcast guests, Micaela Diamond and Teal Wicks. Overall, Kelli is a magical human being, and I hope listeners enjoy getting the chance to get to know her in this weeks episode. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/jayme-starr/support

It's good to see her, isn't it! This week we're joined by Helen Woolf who has been part of Wicked for the past seven years. Helen originally understudied Glinda in Wicked's first UK & Ireland tour, before transferring to the London production where she also understudied Nessarose. Happy Thanksgiving to everyone!!! Dadgum and Reekus tackle another musical...no, you didn't read that wrong, we decided to break the rules all over again and get out of the theater and to the stage. It's a wicked good time (Boston accent) as the crew takes a scattered look at the Broadway smash hit, Wicked. Listen to Gordon, once again, try and explain why musicals don't translate to the big screen! Hear about Luke's infatuation with the sign language crew at the production! And the girls...well, the girls got their work cut out for them in a whirlwind of fact checks! Now go eat your turkey! Gizel Jiménez is currently making her Broadway debut in Wicked as Nessarose. She earned Drama Desk and Lortel nominations for her turn in off-Broadway's Miss You Like Hell and was recently in Avenue Q. Hosted by Paul Wontorek, Beth Stevens and Caitlin Moynihan
So if you haven't noticed yet, we had a ton of interviews at this past Momocon! In this one, we chatted with Deedee Magno Hall! Not only is her name amazing, she herself was also amazing as Pearl, in a cartoon people like to call Steven Universe. As... that is the cartoon's name. She was also Princess Jasmine in Disney's Aladdin: A Musical Spectacular for many years, as well as Nessarose in Wicked! She knows how to carry a tune, is all we are saying here.
On this episode of Going for Broadway, Kristine Reese joins Eryn. Even though she had a late start in the business, Kristine is a graduate off the University of Cincinnati with a BFA in Musical Theatre College Conservatory of Music. She was in both the first and second national Tours of Wicked as a swing, but was quickly put in the role of Nessarose, a role which she played over 1000 times!
We know it's been a while, but we have an exciting podcast for you this week, with special guest Lesley McKinnell! Lesley has some fantastic credits, including covering Glinda and Nessarose in both national touring companies of WICKED! She has performed regularly in regional theatre as well, including the roles of Adelaide in GUYS AND DOLLS and Elizabeth in YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN. She is now one of the stars of the new vlog TICK TALK BOOM, which we recently posted about. It's a hilarious vlog and we're sure you'll enjoy it!
- An exclusive interview with Sarah Schenkkan, former ensemble member and understudy for Glinda on the 1st National Tour of WICKED! Shira and Isaac chat with Sarah about her career, memorable stage door experiences, and several more exciting topics! The interview starts at 51:40 into the podcast. - The return of our "Sessions with Kristine" (with Kristine Reese, former Nessarose on the 1st and 2nd National Tours of WICKED), this time with a chat about the controversy about different touring agreements that is going on right now and about celebrities and pop stars being cast in major roles in Broadway shows. Kristine does a great job explaining what is going on with the touring agreements, so be sure to give it a listen if you're interested! The session starts at 7:04 into the podcast. - There is no cast update this week, and only one media article, so we will bring those back next week! Also beginning next week, we are going to alternate between having a panel discussion (as we used to do) and having theatre news! So be sure to listen for the return of our panel on the next podcast.
Happy holidays, listeners! We hope you're excited for the last pOZcast episode of 2013! We have had a lovely year making these for you guys, and hope that we can continue it for another fun year filled with even more growth and improvements to the pOZcast! On this week's episode, we have: - Our biweekly exclusive interview, this time with the delightful Courtney Iventosch, who was the Witch's Mother and understudy for Nessarose on the 1st National Tour of WICKED. Additionally, she was a swing and covered the Witch's Mother on the 2nd National Tour. In the interview, we hear about a rather hilarious blooper that happened to her as the Witch's Mother, how she approaches roles, some great advice for future performers, and another role in WICKED she could see herself playing... give it a listen and let us know what you think! - A slightly hilarious intro with Isaac & Ryan, in which an exhausted Isaac attempts a British accent. - Our usual Cast Update, WICKED News, and Media sections! Theatre News will return next week.
Happy Black Friday, everyone! We hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving -- and even more so, we hope you're ready to listen to Innuendo & Outuendo's 43rd pOZcast! Also, we thank you -- as always -- for being so wonderful and supportive of this pOZcast over the past year -- our first episode was on November 19, 2012! It's hard for us to believe that we've had this going for a year! So what do we have for you this week? * Ryan & Isaac have a great chat with Laurel Harris, who is currently the standby for Elphaba and understudy for Nessarose on the 1st National Tour of WICKED. Previously, Laurel has performed in the ensemble and as understudy for Elphaba and Nessarose on the 2nd National Tour, as well as in EVITA on Broadway as the Eva understudy! Check it out to hear about her CRAZY story of her first time on as Elphaba, her passions other than performing, and her advice to future performers! * Our usual sections, including WICKED News & Media -- no theatre news this week due to the holidays!
- An awesome interview with Anna Eilinsfeld (former ensemble, u/s Elphaba, Nessarose - 2nd Ntl. Tour; former ensemble, u/s Elphaba - Broadway) where she gives us great insight to the world of a performer -- and quite possibly the most hilarious blooper we've ever had on the show. - Meet the pOZcasters with Patricia, our standby pOZcaster -- Find out what the most spontaneous thing she has ever done, and also what her favorite guilty pleasure food is. - In this week’s theatre news: casting for ALADDIN also casting the movie adaptation for INTO THE WOODS and casting for the TV adaptation of THE SOUND OF MUSIC. - A hilarious introduction: what happens when Isaac and Christina go unscripted? Listen up to find out!
This week's pOZcast, the first of our new, bi-weekly pOZcast, is now available! Tour; former ensemble, u/s Glinda – Chicago) about playing Elle Woods in LEGALLY BLONDE at Stages St. Louis! * A review of the 2nd National Tour of WICKED by Isaac, which he saw this weekend in Houston, TX. * Our new "enhanced cast update", which is explained in the podcast. * An awesome discussion by Ryan and Jonathan in theatre news, talking about BIG FISH and IF/THEN casting announcements, and the latest developments in the REBECCA scandal. * A somewhat incoherent WICKED News section by Isaac and Shira, who were running on a combined seven hours of sleep. It's a fun and somewhat hilarious episode! So check it out - and let us know your thoughts on the new format!

Tour; former swing, u/s Nessarose – 1st Ntl. The 11th episode of the pOZcast is available now from Innuendo & Outuendo! In this week’s episode, we interview Rachel Millman, an up-and-coming pop star who released her newest EP, "NOW", today. We featured Rachel's performance at Feinstein's of "The Wizard and I" in 2011. We also have an EXCELLENT panel discussion about non-replica WICKED productions and characterizations of Elphaba and Nessarose, so be sure to listen. Furthermore, we will be doing a CD-GIVEAWAY of three copies of "NOW" - so watch for details on that to be posted tomorrow!
