IT'S YOUR TIME TO SHINE, SAGITTARIUS!!!!Because it's your birthday month and because Susan Miller is back! Just in time to tell us all what December holds. Her eyesight isn't perfect, but it's good enough that she was able to write the detailed horoscopes we expect and to tell us to buy her wall calendar and sign up for Discord. So all told, things have returned to normal. The episode begins with Laura and Alex recounting the magical adventure they had together attending the Radio City Christmas Spectacular. There's a lot more to the story but let's just say that Alex walked away from the experience with the desire to be a Rockette, and Laura to be Santa's mistress. The gals then follow up on one of Susan's more unpleasant predictions from last month by asking each other: Were you embezzled?!Happily, the December forecasts are full of holiday magic, so Laura and Alex are thrilled to tell Sagittarius about all the gifts that the planets will deliver for their birthday month. The horoscopes for Taurus and Scorpio are also joyful, although both signs should be prepared to pull the car over during Neptune's fog. Laura and Alex thank you so much for listening this year and wish everyone a wonderful holiday season! May the light from the baby glow-worm in the manger bring happiness and comfort to all! In show business, a gypsy is a term of endearment and respect. A gypsy is a member of the chorus…the ensemble…the singers and dancers who travel from show to show and Bill Disbennett was a true gypsy. Bill has danced all around the world, starting at Six Flags St. Louis and then Opryland USA for 3 years. From there, he danced for Disney in a travel trade show to promote Disney's MGM Studios, performing in 30 cities to get the word out to travel agents about the new theme park. Bill was then hired as a Kid of the Kingdom, where he danced in all of the Castle shows in Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World for 5 years. From there, he moved half-way around the world and danced at Tokyo Disneyland for 4 years before coming back to the US to dance in the Radio City Christmas Spectacular in New York City. He then moved from land to sea, where he danced for Disney Cruise Line aboard both the Disney Magic and Wonder and then went back to the Radio City Christmas Spectacular. When Bill retired from performing, he went to Meredith Manor International Equestrian Center, taught there for a year, and moved back to Orlando where he had an equestrian business for 13 years. He's now working his dream job at the Tri-Circle-D Ranch where he manages the operation of 40 Ranch Hands and over 100 equines. Enjoy Part 1 of Scott's conversation with the amazing Bill Disbennett! Charles Edward Hall, '73, has been delighting people from all over the globe for more than three decades as Santa Claus in New York's famed Radio City Christmas Spectacular. From the rural landscape of Kentucky's capital city to the lights of Broadway, the Frankfort native has come a long way. Hall graduated with dual degrees in theatre and speech communication from Murray State nearly 50 years ago, and in 1976, he followed his passion for the theatre to the Big Apple. As a young actor, his theatre career began in plays "off off" Broadway, but it wasn't long until Broadway came calling. His first major role was not that of Santa, but rather as a surprising villain: the Wicked Witch in the Broadway production of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Hall began his run as Santa alongside the famed Rockettes in 1986. Thousands of magic-filled shows later, he announced earlier this year that this 36th season would be his last. After years as a New Yorker, Hall now resides full-time in Calloway County and commutes to and from New York to work. His 2014 book, Santa Claus is for Real: A True Christmas Fable About the Magic of Believing, is now in development to become a film. A theater friend of mine sends me an email. He's directing a play and wants me to be in it. Yet my schedule is so crazy, I don't think I can fit it in, and I definitely don't want to let the other actors down. He insists that we can work around my schedule and then drops a bit of a bombshell. It's a one-act play, and I'm the only actor in it. My internal dialogue starts dialing up the panic mode almost immediately: “Sure, I'm a speaker. I'm an Improv performer. I've acted in plays, but I've never been in one by myself! Can I really do this?” The more the fear sets in, though, the more I realize I have to do this. So I tell him I'll go for it, and we create this crazy character without constraint. I push myself in ways I never have before to bring this character to life. My guest today, Leah Sprecher, lives her life in stories. She is equally at home on stage and screen, touring the country performing in musicals and in guest stints on popular TV shows like Jimmy Kimmel Live and Blackish. What I'm most excited to talk with her about in this episode, however, is her experience debuting two original one-woman shows as the character of Barbara. If you're curious to know: Why might it be easier to express feelings and vulnerability as a character rather than yourself? And how can characters help you overcome stage fright? You'll hear about all of this and why you don't need to start from scratch when building a character, the battle between responding to fans as a character versus yourself, and more! What you will learn in this episode: How to infuse characters with real-life feelings Why collaboration can make a world of difference in your performance Why relatability and joy are essential for great storytelling Who is Leah? Leah Sprecher earned her B.A. in Theatre from UCLA's Ray Bolger Musical Theatre Program. She has multiple stage, television, and musical credits to her name. Her tours around the country include Broadway musicals like 42nd Street, Happy Days, and the Radio City Christmas Spectacular. She's also performed in Cinderella at Papermill Playhouse and in Pirates of Penzance, Happy Days, and Darling Grenadine at Goodspeed Opera House. In addition, Leah has done guest stints on ABC's Jimmy Kimmel Live and Blackish and IFC's Maron. She also performs as her alter ego Barbara Dixon, a character who satirizes autobiographical cabaret shows that starred people like Barbara Cook, Elaine Stritch, and Liza Minnelli. She debuted original one-woman shows Old Lady Parts and Everything's Coming Up Barbara as an alumnus of the Groundlings Sunday Company. And recently, she's sung and toured as a member of The Bombshells, which blends Top 40 hits with tight harmonies popularized by The Andrews Sisters. Along with her acting work, Leah has written songs for institutions like Invisalign, Funny or Die, and Betch: A Sketch Show. And as a co-founder of Broadway Babies, she teaches classes and performs shows for kids of all ages.
