Hear about travel to Long Island, New York as the Amateur Traveler talks to Vanessa Gordon from EastEndTasteMagazine.com about her home. https://amateurtraveler.com/travel-to-long-island-new-york/ Why should someone go to Long Island? Vanessa says, "Long Island, there truly is so to discover, even from living out here for many years, whether part-time or full-time there's truly so much to do, whether you're in Nassau or Suffolk County, the two counties that make up Long Island. I've lived here in the Hamptons, been here for over 30 years and this New York region never ceases to amaze me. There are ocean beaches. We have Bay beaches. We have beautiful nature preserves, bountiful farmers markets, and endless amounts of summer events." Vanessa suggests visiting Long Island in September or October, mentioning the abundance of events, family activities, and cultural events during these months. She shares her favorite spots in Montauk, including the Montauk Point Lighthouse and the opportunity for seal watching and whale sightings. Moving to Shelter Island, Vanessa recommends taking the ferry and exploring the island's unique attractions, such as Rams Head Inn and Mashomack Preserve. She also suggests Sunset Beach as a hotspot for live music and sunsets. Vanessa then talks about Sag Harbor, her favorite village, and its family-friendly beaches. She highlights The Beacon restaurant and Barron's Cove Hotel for breathtaking sunset views. The discussion extends to wineries on the North Fork, with recommendations like Wolfer Estate and Channing Daughters. She covers various family-friendly activities, including museums like the Parrish Art Museum and Guildhall and theaters such as Bay Street Theater. Vanessa mentions the presence of celebrities in the fall. The itinerary continues with a move to Riverhead, described as the gateway to the North Fork and South Fork. Vanessa appreciates the town's historic charm, new businesses, and attractions like the Long Island Aquarium. She highlights the East End food market as a one-stop shop for local food purveyors. Vanessa suggests considering staying in Brookhaven instead of the Hamptons to save on your travel budget. She highlights Patchogue on the Great South Bay as a vibrant spot, particularly for nightlife, and recommends Fire Island for its popularity among the LGBTQ+ community. She emphasizes historical sites like Fire Island Lighthouse and Bellport, suggesting the Bellport Inn as a cozy stay. Moving to the "Gold Coast" on the north shore, Vanessa mentions historic mansions like Teddy Roosevelt's Sagamore Hill, the Old Westbury Gardens, and Oheka Castle, the latter featured in a Taylor Swift music video. She advises dividing mansion visits over two days. Whether you are visiting Long Island on your yacht or by train, whether you are visiting mansions or living in one, this area near New York City offers a very different world to the city with its beaches, farms, and vineyards.

I had the pleasure of talking with actor and actor career coach Talia Thiesfield and these are some of my takeaways. Pivots are both internal and external and can be big or small but either way trust your own path. Next, once you've learned how to learn the lesson in a pivot you can then carry over lessons from pivot to pivot and set boundaries. You don't have to go back to something that you pivoted to before just because you find yourself needing to change again. Set your boundaries. Last but not least, be in gratitude as much as you can. Pivoting is expanding and look at it this way you survived the last pivot you made and you're here for another pivot to happen. Talia is a full-time actor, voiceover artist, and talent & career coach. She currently appears as recurring character NYPD Rep Maya on FBI (CBS), and has guest starred on various television shows including Succession & Veep (HBO), Limitless & Kevin Can Wait (CBS), and Suspscion (Apple TV+). I am also an alum of the NBC Diversity Showcase. She stars in the award-winning film Inez & Doug & Kira, wherein she played the title role of Kira opposite Michael Chernus and Tawny Cypress. Additionally, her voice can be heard in multiple vocal modalities for various commercials, video games, and animated projects including a three-season run as “B” in DreamWork's Trollstopia. A lover of new works, She has originated and helped develop a number of roles for Off Broadway and regional houses. These include the world premieres of Ring Twice For Miranda at NY City Center off-Broadway (Anouk), How To Break at Seattle's renowned Village Theater (Dr. Aden), Windfall at Bay Street Theater directed by Jason Alexander (Jaqueline Vanderbilt), and Cleopatra: The Pop Experience at Theater for the New City (Cleopatra). She is currently nominated for a Heilman & Haver Award for Best Featured Actor in a Musical (How To Break at Village Theater). Previously, she received a Broadway World Regional Award for my performance as Daniela in In The Heights (Dallas Theater Center) and I am a Connecticut Critics Circle nominee, having earned a nod for Best Actress in a Musical for my portrayal of Aldonza in Man of La Mancha (Ivoryton Theater). As a coach, educator, and consultant she's been a guest lecturer at Columbia University, Rutgers University (Mason Gross School of the Arts), Montclair State University, The University of Connecticut, The No Marking Society (founded by Kate Lumpkin, CSA), and The Broadway Collective. She is the founder of The Act of Style Coaching which has gained wide popularity and the respect and collaboration of industry professionals nationwide on Instagram. She uses her own trademarked method to provide acting, branding, and career coaching that combines business savvy with craft in empowering actors to feel more confidence, pride, and authenticity in their work. Dan and Vicky head back to the old west for a Gunfight at the OK Corral. The 1957 film directed by John Sturges and starring Burt Lancaster and Kirk Douglas tells the oft told tale of the legendary, albeit short, gun battle between the Earps and the Clantons and the violence, greed and passions that lead up to it. In a wide ranging conversation, your hosts talk about the recent actors strike, Dan's show at the Bay Street Theater and lots of recently seen including Insidious: The Red Door, Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part One, Wake in Fright, the Rock Hudson doc All That Heaven Allowed, and the phenomenon that is Barbie and Oppenhemier. https://www.baystreet.org/ Follow us here: hotdatepod.com FB: Hot Date Podcast Twitter: @HotDate726 Insta: hotdatepod
1985's Crimewave was the sophmore effort for Evil Dead director Sam Raimi, actor and producer Bruce Campbell and producer Bob Tapert. The film started as the script The XYZ Murders by Joel and Ethan Coen. Raimi and genre friendly production company Avco-Embassy agreed the script was a winner and started shooting on a 2.5 million dollar budget. And that's when the problems started. With really young and relatively inexperienced fillmmakers at the helm, the budget balllooned, actors started getting hurt and animosity grew. Dan and Vicky, coming to you from NY and Nantucket, discuss the mostly reviled comedy thriller along with alot of recently seen, including the new Indiana Jones, Netflix's We Have a Ghost, Past Lives, King Richard, Black Mirror season 6, 1970 Nicholas Roeg film Performance, and the genius of Sean Hayes in the Broadway show Good Night Oscar. 1963's Shock Corridor was director/writer/provocateur Sam Fuller's depiction of the search for truth in a hostile society bent on obfuscating and distorting it. Set in a mental institution, Fuller's story of a Boston Globe journalist who gets himself committed to solve a murder gets at the hypocrisy and violence that can occur when that search butts up against racism, sexism and preservation of the status quo. It stars Peter Breck, Conctance Towers, James Best, Gene Evans and Hari Rhodes. Dan and Vicky discuss the indie classic along with alot of recently seen including The Flash, The Blackening, The Boogeyman, Renfield, Peacock's Based on a True Story, Feud: Joan and Bette, and You Hurt My Feelings. At a time when there was considerable United States naivete and even support around Hitler's domination of Europe, Warner Bros. took the calculated risk of releasing the fervently antifascist 1943 film adaptation of Lillian Helman's Tony award winning play Watch on the Rhine. Aiding them in delivering the important message was outspoken liberal Bette Davis, Hungarian born leading man Paul Lukas (who ended up winning the Oscar for Best Actor), Dashiell Hammett (taking over writing duties from partner Hellman), and producer Hal Wallis. Dan and Vicky randomly chose the classic anti-war film to highlight on this newest episode of Hot Date but you know they'll also talk about a lot of recently seen movies and TV like Fast X, The Little Mermaid (2023), Broadway horror The Grey House, Gossip Girl, Terrifier 2, Sebastian Maniscalco's About My Father and docs about the Amityville Horror house, Donna Summer and Mary Tyle Moore. Actor, dancer, musician and producer Aaron Dalla Villa was most recently seen as the slimy Mordred in the Bay Street Theater production of Camelot. His Off-Broadway credits include Seeing You, and Sleep F$@cking: Revision, while regional theater roles include Mr. Mistoffelees in CATS, Treat in Orphans, and Peter Pan in Peter Pan Workshop (Broadway Asia). His slew of TV credits include Gossip Girl, Girls5Eva, Madam Secretary, Duels, Gotham, On The Verge, and Late Night with Seth Meyers. He can also be seen in numerous films including Alpha Rift, All Those Small Things, Pledge, Trick, and Immortal. Aaron is both a classically trained ballet dancer, and a rapper. Growing up in Suffolk, Virginia, Aaron's affinity for rap and hip hop put him on the path to becoming a trained ballet dancer, and eventually, an actor. He opens up about a creative endeavor which he has only recently begun sharing publicly - writing and producing his own music. He speaks candidly about his journey with therapy, sobriety, and self-reflection, which have all allowed him to stay grounded and focused on his artistic choices and career. Aaron also shares his hopes for inspiring “that little kid in the audience” (who was at one time him), and the beauty of capturing moments, albeit differently, on stage and on screen. In this episode, we talk about: A missed opportunity to audition for Billy Elliot on Broadway Why “dance” is under special skills on his resume His drive to be a movie star How he unwinds, recharges, and takes care of himself The importance of consistently showing up Tracing his Italian roots Connect with Aaron: IG: @aarondallavilla Twitter: @aarondallavilla Connect with The Theatre Podcast: Support us on Patreon: Patreon.com/TheTheatrePodcast Twitter & Instagram: @theatre_podcast Facebook.com/OfficialTheatrePodcast TheTheatrePodcast.com Alan's personal Instagram: @alanseales Email me at feedback@thetheatrepodcast.com. For video version, click here and subscribe: https://youtu.be/tWSpCCg7wRA It was in 1964, John Strangi, age eleven, was to visit New York City for the first time. His Father, Albert, would treat him to an entire week in the Big Apple, taking him to the New York Worlds Fair. He was to fall in love with the City instantly and swore to himself that he would one day make New York City his home. Its magic energy would totally captivate him. The first Broadway show he would see would be in 1967 when he and his brother Albert were in NYC for a few days. They would see HELLO DOLLY starring Betty Grable. The evening was magical! The magic he felt in NYC three years earlier is as strong as ever. His love for the theater came alive in high school. The smell of grease paint would capture him, landing him roles in THE KING AND I, WAIT UNTIL DARK, PLAZA SUITE, and MY FAIR LADY. Starring as Henry Higgins in MY FAIR LADY was a dream come true. In New York City, he will study acting at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, the HB Studio in Greenwich Village, and from Emma Walton and Stephen Hamilton at the Bay Street Theater in Sag Harbor. His dream of making it on Broadway was not to be, but he did work quite a bit in television and movies making him a lifelong member of SAG/AFTRA. Simply living day to day in New York City, made John feel like a star. https://www.amazon.com/Thirty-Years-New-York-City/dp/1681390388

As Michael Arden says this week, "There is not nation without culture." The Guys couldn't agree more. WELL here is another episode where Joe can't keep his cool. Spring Awakening and Once On This Island director Michael Arden IS HERE. Talk about a multi-hyphenate. Michael is an actor, stage director, film director, writer, musician, producer, singer, composer, and on and on and on, Michael is a beacon of creative light in our industry. WE LOVE HIM. Dan gets to ask Michael a burning question that has been on his mind since he saw Michael Arden’s production of Spring Awakening back in 2015. Michael is full of incredible insight and thoughtful artistic conversation. Dan and Joe have always been huge fans Michael’s … From the early days of We talk to Michael this week about how “the failures and foolishness lead us to the truth”, how you learn more from the flops and the failures than you do from the successes, to always embrace what is hard and run toward what is scary, and that “A laser only looks focus because of the space around it”… WHAT WE MEAN IS… become as well rounded as possible. Learn as much as you can. Michael received a scholarship to Interlochen Arts Academy as a theatre student, where he graduated in 2001. He was accepted on a full scholarship to the Juilliard School, where he was in the Drama Division's Group 34. He left Juilliard in 2003 to join the Broadway revival company of the musical Big River. Arden is a Tony-nominated director for his revivals of Spring Awakening and Once on This Island. He won the Ovation and Outer Critics Circle Award for Outstanding Director of a Musical for Spring Awakening. Once on This Island recently received the Tony Award for Best Revival. He has directed the Los Angeles premier of The Pride by Alexi Kaye Campbell, My Fair Lady at the Bay Street Theater, and has won an NAACP Award for his production of Merrily We Roll Along at the Wallis Annenberg, where he served as Artist in Residence. He most recently directed Annie at the Hollywood Bowl with the Los Angeles Philharmonic. This past year he was at the helm of a new production of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol starring Tony winner Jefferson Mays that was filmed and will hopefully be headed to Broadway next year. As an actor, Michael has appeared on Broadway in The Times They Are A-Changin’ and Big River as well as in numerous films and television shows, most notably Anger Management, Bride Wars, and Source Code. He also created the role of Quasimodo for the American Premier of The Hunchback of Notre Dame. He has toured and sung with Barbra Streisand and starred in Trevor Nunn’s production of Aspects of Love in London. Michael has a servant’s heart and has performed for several fundraisers for the Midland Area Aids Support and benefit concerts for World Aids Day, Covenant House, Broadway Cares Equity Fights Aids and the St. Vincent’s School in Haiti. We had the pleasure of interviewing Roger Day over Zoom video! Now more than ever, kids need to find the power to deal with life’s challenges. We may all be looking for a super hero to save the day, but Roger Day (www.rogerday.com) reminds us that our true power lies within. Day, the (normally) nationally touring and multiple award-winning Nashville-based singer-songwriter, recently released an album to help youngsters “solve the problem” and “save the day” using their own imagination and skills – no imaginary super heroes needed. Featuring 10 original songs, Invincible! is available from RogerDay.com, Spotify and your favorite music store. From the rousing beat of the title track, we know we’ll be ready to fend off any evil foes. “No need to wait for super heroes anymore. I can save the day through the turning of the page.” As Roger says, “every puzzle is solve-able” through creative brainpower and by consulting “the pages of a book.” Any kid can discover that they are capable of working through a problem, like “No Ordinary Super Hero.” They may even find them-selves declaring to their parents: “I’ll Be Your Super Hero” as they soar confidently in their cape and boots. Day explains the unbridled optimism of these songs and how they fit the times. “Life is full of problems. The trick is to open your mind to discover the answers. Humans are clever, and little humans are all too often underestimated. We can help kids recognize that they can be active in finding solutions even in the most difficult situations.”New York Times best-selling author Susan Verde co-wrote the rocker “Big Picture” with Day, in which a “citizen scientist” questions, investigates, solves for “x” and looks around to discover the universe, which starts in one’s own backyard. The rockin’ beat continues with the advice to super heroes to “Get a Robot First” and the shifting perspectives of “Little Ants,” and the rousing “Me and My Jet Pack,” which has been a hit with the kids at Roger’s concerts. Of course, not all heroes fly around in capes and fight bad guys. “The Everyday Super Hero Song” celebrates the ordinary people who keep us educated, safe and healthy. The album ends sweetly with the soft-rock, Beatles-inflected ballad “Love Is My Super Power,” in which the whole world can “shine like new.” Roger Day is based near Nashville. His appearances have included the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books, the Bay Street Theater in Sag Harbor NY, The Charlotte Chil-dren’s Theater and many schools, libraries and festivals. Roger Day’s songs have been featured on Radio Disney, SiriusXM Satellite Radio, and public television. His five studio albums – Rock ‘n’ Roll Rodeo, Ready To Fly, Dream Big!,Why Does Gray Matter? and the CD/DVD release, Marsh Mud Madness– along with two Greatest Hits albums – have all won Parents’ Choice Awards and critical acclaim nationwide. During spring 2020, he launched a virtual “Dream Big” and “Virtual Zoo” concert series, draw-ing thousands of fans. Roger and his wife Jodie are proud of their three adult kids who are super heroes to them: Thomas, a soon-to-be pediatrician at Vanderbilt University Medical School (who co-wrote the track “I’ll Be Your Super Hero”); Marjory, currently completing two masters in both Business and Engineering at the University of Tennessee; and Jacob, a rising college senior at W&L University who spent last summer in Argentina mastering his Spanish and playing lots of soccer while working with kids at a non-profit in Buenos Aires. Now, as Roger releases a new album called Invincible! and reflects on his role as a children’s entertainer, educator and father, he is even more convinced of the power of music in young people’s lives. “My favorite line on the entire album is “Life is full of problems. But it’s full of answers too.” That’s a message I’d love for every kid to take to heart.”We want to hear from you! Krisha & Frank put together the “redneck trail mix” they received from next-door neighbor Nancy. It's a mixture of candy corn and salted peanuts. Krisha kicked someone's cart at the “Bougie Kroger,” which is a place where you'll often see sorority girls “lampshading.” Frank's wife recently listened to the last episode of the old SomeAntics podcast and described it to next-door neighbor Nancy. The story on the old show involved lady products and it made Frank a little uncomfortable. Frank is wearing a light sweatshirt he bought at Tiki Joe's on Meschutt Beach. His Aunt Grace forwarded an email about free online classes from Bay Street Theater. Frank got a certificate of completion for “Improving Your Life with Improv!” Today's episode is sponsored by BoneZones.com (don't forget the S) where you can buy books and merchandise autographed by world-renowned forensic anthropologist Dr. Bill Bass. On this episode of Baring It All with Call Me Adam, on the Broadway Podcast Network, I am recording at The Houdini Museum in NYC with Director Carl Andress, whose long time collaboration with Tony nominee Charles Busch is continuing at the Cherry Lane Theatre with Charles' hilarious new show The Confession of Lily Dare, running through March 5. The Confession of Lily Dare is part of Primary Stages 35th Anniversary Season. The Confession of Lily Dare tells the story of one woman’s tumultuous passage from convent girl to glittering cabaret chanteuse to infamous madame of a string of brothels—all while hiding her undying devotion to the child she was forced to abandon. This comic melodrama celebrates the gauzy “confession film” tearjerkers of early 1930s pre-code cinema, such as The Sin of Madelon Claudet, Frisco Jenny, and Madame X. The Confession of Lily Dare will play at The Cherry Lane Theatre (38 Commerce Street) through March 5. Click here for tickets! The Houdini Museum is located at 213 West 35th Street, 4th floor, in Midtown Manhattan. Like what you hear? Then become a member of my Patreon Page for exclusive behind-the-scene perks!
