Hvorfor ha egne yogakurs for kvinner?

As many of you will know, Uma Dinsmore Tuli has been a powerful force for good in many fields for decades, including Yoga, Menstruality, and women's health. She describes herself as a writer, an educator, a Hyperactive Yoginī, a mother of three and a devotee to the Dark Mother. Today we chat about the cycles that guide Uma's life, from the planets, to the moon, to her early relationship with her cycle and how it led her to develop Womb Yoga and write the best known of her six books, Yoni Shakti, a feminist retelling of yoga. All the way to Uma's menopause process, which happened during the crucible of Covid and being silenced due to a legal battle, and the unstoppable flow of creativity power it awakened within her. The golden thread we track throughout the conversation is how we can experience our blood, our orgasms, our pregnancy and pregnancy losses, our lactation, and our menopause as extraordinary portals to power, but only if we're conscious of them, and if we respect them. We explore:What happened when Uma showed up to her yoga sessions, as a new mother, with a postpartum body, how the practices - as they were being taught - didn't meet the needs of her bleeding, lactating and how this inspired her to write the book that she needed: Yoni Shakti. The healing power of circling as women as a radical act of resistance to patriarchal and colonial oppression, and as a pathway to recultivating our trust in each other. Why we need to decolonise our sleep - as a way to recover our menstrual and menopause health - which is one of the reasons why Uma wrote her new book, Nidra Shakti: the Power of Rest - an illustrated, decolonial encyclopedia of Yoga Nidra. ---Receive Red School's free video training: Love Your Cycle, Discover the Power of Menstrual Cycle Awareness to Revolutionise Your Life - www.redschool.net/love---The Menstruality Podcast is hosted by Red School. Welcome back to the in-between state. This practice is in the structure taught and recommended by Uma Dinsmore-Tuli, whom is a constant reference point for me in the creation of healing, gentle yoga nidra practices. You can learn more about her here: https://www.yoganidranetwork.org/. This practice is intended to support healing and release the effects of stress on your bodymind. In it, we explore the Hamsa mantra, among other techniques. The word Hamsa translates to "swan" in Sanskrit, and in yoga, it also refers to the breath. The mantra's two syllables, ham and sa, represent the breath's in-breath and out-breath, as well as the life force's ascending and descending currents. The mantra is thought to open a doorway to the experience that that we are identical to the Absolute, or transcendental Self, and the great Life of the cosmos. May this practice contribute to your life in a postive way. In this episode, I was both privileged to sit with, and deeply inspired by, my guest, Uma Dinsmore-Tuli, PhD. Uma is the author of Yoni Shakti, as well as many other books, and her work, along with Vicki Noble's, set something alight in me. As I read her book, I saw written in plain and clear language what my body-heart-mind had always known: there is a feminine source-point for yoga that is the key or code to understanding the truth of the practice. Uma helps me to unpack this awareness, and she and I cover many topics that are challenging but, hopefully, ultimately liberating. We do touch on some sensitive subjects, so be prepared for a big conversation. In this episode, we talk about: How yoga has changed since Uma met (and fell in love with!) yoga in the 60s The abuse of power within largely patriarchal, commercially-driven yoga lineages The "yoga industrial complex" Why Uma no longer refers to herself as a yoga teacher How women can meet yoga as cyclical beings (menstruation, pregnancy, postpartum, menopause), and how we can all get more out of our yoga practice (hint: it involves more rest!) The natural siddhis and altered states of the feminine experience and how yoga seeks to emulate them The exploitation of yoga teachers in the current, unsustainable studio-based business model Yoga Nidra beyond its commercial trademarks - as a practice that is perhaps as old as humanity and found (in some form) across multiple indigenous cultures Uma's new book, Nidra Shakti, and her process of writing and researching How Uma's Celtic roots manifest in her yoga practice How Uma developed Womb Yoga The importance of education and community (sangha) in breaking through the barriers to collective healing and empowerment And so much more...!! Throughout this episode, Uma advocates for a holistic, inclusive, therapeutic approach to yoga that honours the body's natural cycles and supports collective healing. This podcast provides an in-depth exploration of yoga's commercialisation, the importance of reclaiming indigenous and feminine cyclical wisdom, and the empowerment of women through respectful and individualised yoga practices (and a lot more rest!). I cannot wait to share Uma's body of wisdom with you!   About Uma Dinsmore-Tuli: Uma Dinsmore-Tuli inspires tired humans to restore rhythmic cycles of health through rest. She shares simple tools and yoga therapeutic techniques to recover health and reconnect to embodied wisdom. Uma met yoga in 1969, at the age of four, and fell in love. She's been practising ever since, and teaching yoga since 1994. A yoga therapist with special expertise in yoga therapy for women's health, Uma identifies her teachings as “post-lineage” yoga, rooted in yoga tantra and drawing on a variety of yogic traditions to share deeply nourishing and enlivening practices appropriate for contemporary life. Uma works internationally, sharing yoga retreats, trainings, and empowerments that support the natural arising of prana shakti: the power of life. She trains specialist teachers in Total Yoga Nidra and Yoni Shakti Well Woman Yoga Therapy for menstrual and menopausal health, pregnancy, birth, and postnatal recovery. Uma is also the author of six books: Nidra Shakti: The Power of Rest: An Illustrated Encyclopaedia of Yoga Nidra (due for release July 2023) Yoni Shakti: A Woman's Guide to Power and Freedom through Yoga and Tantra (2014/2020) Yoga Nidra Made Easy (2022) The Celtic School of Yoga (2016) Yoga for Pregnancy and Birth (2010) Mother's Breath (2005) Uma is also Co-Founder of Yoga Nidra Network (2011) and the mother of three children. Sally began her journey in the health and fitness industry in 1998 after qualifying as a personal trainer and gaining a bachelor in Sport Science in the year 2001. Soon after, she experienced a deep calling to explore a more holistic approach to movement and breath, which led to Sally certifying as a yoga and paranayama teacher, training with Paul Dallaghan and Sri Tiwari at @centered-yoga in Thailand, in addition to studying at K Pattabhi Jois The Ashtanga Yoga Institute in Mysore. From teaching her female students however, Sally could see that if yoga asana and pranayama was applied in a more bespoke manner with regards to the natural womb cycles that most women experience on a regular basis, the application of yoga could be even more profound. This led her to studying for several years in earnest with leader and pioneer in this field; Uma Dinsmore-Tuli, with whom she gained qualifications in Pregnancy and Postnatal Yoga and a Well Woman Yoga Therapy Diploma. Since then, Sally has gone on to train as a Doula with Michele O'Dent and a Pilates teacher with A.P.P.I. (Australian Pilates Physiotherapy and Pilates Institute) and has established her own yoga teacher training school The Sally Parkes Yoga Academy in 2010, training over 1500 yoga teachers to date. Now specializing in solely women's wellness, Sally's academy offers yoga that honours the cycles of menstruation, fertility, pregnancy, postnatal and menopause. Sally is also the author of three books, Yoga; the Modern Essential Guide and The Yoga Healing Handbook, and bestseller The Manual of Yoga Anatomy. She also writes anatomy and physiology based articles for several publications including Om Yoga & Lifestyle, UltraFit and Yoga Magazine to name a few. In this episode Dawn Lister and Daniel Groom are joined by special guest Uma Dinsmore Tuli to discuss Yoga Nidra for community support, social justice and planetary healing. It's a great listen and designed to inspire us all. Uma was first introduced to yoga at the age of four by her mother and began meditating at nine on a pilgrimage with her maternal grandmother. Yoga and meditation have been part of her daily life ever since. As a naturally curious and enquiring yogini, she has engaged passionately and critically with a variety of quite different schools of yoga, most especially Satyananda Yoga and Iyengar Yoga. After completing the Yoga Biomedical Trust Diploma in Yoga Therapy in 1999, Uma has continued to find the fully integrated approach of yoga therapy to be the most practical route to the healing power of yoga. She further trained in Structural Yoga Therapy and Ayurvedic Yoga Therapy with Mukunda Stiles, and works as a yoga therapist with special expertise in women's health. Uma has a PhD in Communications and is a recognised teacher of the British Wheel of Yoga. She has been a training tutor in Yoga Therapy since 2001 and also teaches British Wheel of Yoga In-service training days. As a mother of three, she has been both personally and professionally engaged with the development of pregnancy yoga, yoga for birth and postnatal recovery, and family yoga, and has been training teachers in this field since 2002, when she first tutored for the Birthlight Trust. Since then she has delighted in creating her own courses to promote excellence of teaching in this field, including Well Woman Yoga and a uniquely responsive Integrated Mother and Baby yoga teacher training. With the intention of widening access to pregnancy and postnatal yoga, she founded Sitaram Yoga with her husband in 1998, and it continues to offer pregnancy and postantal yoga classes in London, including at King's College and St Thomas's hopsitals. The heart of Uma's daily personal and therapeutic practice is yoga nidra, which she believes to be the most powerfully transformative of all yoga techniques. She first encountered the technique at the Satyananda Yoga Centre in 1995, and has been exploring all aspects of it with fascination ever since. She has studied a variety of different approaches to the practice both in India and the UK, with nationally renowned exponents including Swami Muktidharma (Satyananda Acharya, New Zealand), Mukunda Stiles, and Richard Miller. She has refined a range of particularly feminine therapeutic applications of yoga nidra, including its use for the promotion of fertility, positive birthing, postnatal recovery and conscious menstrual health a source of spiritual empowerment. She has taught yoga nidra to hundreds of people, in every conceivable environment, from nursery schools, hospitals and airports, to giant geodesic domes filled with yogis sheltering from wild storms at yoga festivals and gatherings. She has been sharing the technique with teachers from all lineages on Yoga Therapy training courses and retreats since 1999. Uma leads retreats and courses worldwide, sharing the approach to yoga therapy set out in her CDs, DVDs and books: Mother's Breath, Teach Yourself Yoga for Pregnancy and Birth, and Feel Confident: Yoga for Living. Her latest book Yoni Shakti is about the evolution of feminine spiritual authority through yoga and tantra. Uma is currently refining Womb Yoga through a series of international workshops and retreats. https://yonishakti.co/  https://www.yoganidranetwork.org/   https://www.instagram.com/umadinsmoretuli/   ***   From The Heart is a podcast about Yoga, Mindfulness, healing and wellbeing from Dawn Lister and Daniel Groom, founders of Anahata Yoga Centre, Leigh-on-Sea, Essex, UK. Conversations in this light hearted, kind and honest podcast series brings together people who have found ways to practise self-care in their lives, by sharing their knowledge, experiences and insights. Anahata is a heart centred and nurturing Wellbeing Studio in Leigh on Sea, Essex. She has been practicing yoga since 1990 when she was introduced to Integral Yoga as a Physical Education credit as a Freshman in university. After her studies she traveled and lived all over the world, maintaining her own yoga practice and learning from different traditions. The turning point for her was 13 years after her first yoga experience, in Paris studying Integral Yoga once again. This was the moment that her yoga journey moved beyond a physical practice to a deeper exploration of all branches of yoga and I began studying and practicing at Yogaville, Virginia the teachings of Swami Sachidananda. It was during her training as a Pre and Postnatal Yoga teacher with Uma Dinsmore-Tuli that she truly understood that yoga for women is not modifications of the traditional practice. Instead, the true power of women's yoga is guided by the wisdom and energy in the natural female cycle. Delving deeper into these practices she also trained with Uma in Well Woman Yoga Therapy. Her practice follows the wisdom of the hidden voices of traditional yoga, the Mahavidyas, the female wisdom goddesses, grounding them with a sound understanding of female anatomy, pelvic floor function, and hormone health to create a yoga practice that embraces a woman's natural, cyclical power and energy flow. She draw from what she has learned in her studies, including teachings of Tammy Lynn Kent and Alexandra Pope, and training with Francoise Freedman in Fertility Yoga, and Leslie Howard in Pelvic Floor Yoga. She also followed her dharma to create practices centered around Well Woman Yoga Therapy. After all these experiences, Sharon decided to create her own Pre & Post Natal Yoga Teacher Training with EFV Lab, thanks yo her friend Amanda Dates. "Perhaps most of all, my work is empowering women to support other women." It's important for her practice to continue to study all branches of yoga, and all things related to women's pelvic health. When I heard that Uma Dinsmore Tuli had created a campaign to eradicate the abuse of women in the yoga world I knew I wanted to talk about this topic, and the related theme of the decolonization of sleep and yoga. This is a dark truth that has existed for a long time.  I'm a firm believer that whenever we meet the shadow the potential for change grows, and this opens a gateway for shadow exhaustion to start lifting from our personal and collective experiences. And, as Uma shares today, if we don't call it out then “nobody's daughters are safe in these places.” I also invited Yoli Maya Yeh, an educator and healer, and a yoga and yoga nidra teacher, working at the intersection of Indigenous Way, Healing Arts and Social Justice, to give us her perspective on the colonization of sleep and yoga for black, brown, Indigenous People of Color. Between these two powerful women, we had an important discussion that I think you'll enjoy and I hope you'll share with others. Anyone who practices yoga nidra knows it can feel like being in a sanctuary and today we talked a lot about this sanctuary – that yoga nidra is a space that often feels soft, and even playful. But we also delved deeper, into the shadow side of sleep and yoga. Both Yoli and Uma asked us to consider whether you are choosing to practice from a place of freedom, where you're at the center, or are you, often unknowingly, allowing a system to take your power? On today's episode, we discuss sleep and the yoga world, acknowledging the colonization of these practices, and explore how to reclaim their essential teachings on healing, justice and freedom.   Key Takeaways How Yoli used sleep and yoga nidra as a big part of her healing from Graves Disease The body is equip with it's own ICU – Intensive Care Unit - and how nidra helps us tap into that power The playfulness and freedom of yoga nidra The origins of nidra are not merely in the South Asian practice Studies in the UK are showing that people are sleeping 40 minutes longer since COVID-19. Why? Because their alarm clocks are not going off How sleep has been colonized and why decolonized sleep leads to a decolonization of  yoga nidra The moment Yoli discovered she was participating in a colonized version of yoga and what she did to put black, brown, indigenous people of color in the center space and teach from there The abuse of women in the yoga world and Uma's Yoni Shakti campaign to call out the harm and call in the help to improve an oppressive system Why it's crucial for yoga nidra teachers to practice yoga nidra, receive ongoing mentorship and not teach people sleep they have not seen The resources for this podcast can be found here: http://daringtorest.com/podcast/39

How can we reconnect with natural cycles of rest and healing? “We talk about sustainable energy use in buildings, but what about having respect for human energy systems - the energy of life itself - and working out sustainable ways to manage our resources?” ~ Uma Dinsmore-Tuli In this episode Amisha spends time with writer, radical yogini and eco-feminist activist Uma Dinsmore-Tuli. Uma introduces us to her practise of Total Yoga Nidra, and shares what she has discovered about the natural cycles of rest in our human biology, psyche and the world around us. She explains why we must remember to value rest, the importance of dream time and natural awakening for our emotional processing and receiving soul wisdom, why napping has become a radical act, and what might happen if politicians took a nap before every major decision.  Together Uma and Amisha reflect on the importance for women of getting to know their bodies through their menstrual cycle and the cultural shift towards honouring and respecting the wisdom of our bodies. Finally they discuss post-lineage freedom from the disempowering constraints of old hierarchies of yoga teaching - bringing the precious teachings of the yoga traditions into the present moment, and seeking out the common threads of wisdom that underlie delineated structures of yoga practise.

Join Andrew and author Jennifer Dumpert in a lively discussion about Liminal Dreaming, that twilight zone of consciousness between waking and dreaming. Also known as the hypnogogic-hypnopompic state, liminal dreaming is a fascinating state where the boundaries of ego dissolve, and the mind enters a playground of transformation. Watching how the ego falls apart in this unglued state helps us understand how it comes together as we get back online in the waking state – and glue the narrative of our lives back together. The conversation begins with an overview of liminal (“threshold”) states altogether – both psychological and physical — and the revelations that unfold if one can remain lucid to these states. Jennifer discusses how Thomas Edison and Salvador Dali both used these states for creativity, and how anyone can practice liminal dreaming, which is much easier than lucid dreaming. Armed with a few tips, anybody can do it. The conversation turns to the stages of liminal dreaming, emphasizing the autosymbolic (or thought-image amalgamation) stage. Jennifer touts the benefits of developing a “crepuscular culture,” and how much we can learn from non-narrative (non-egoic) states of mind. The discussion turns to how liminal dreaming is connected to bardo tenets, and how dying itself – when one is not fully in this world nor the next – is an extended liminal space. By “surfing the edges of consciousness,” and “playing in the changing froth of perception” now, we can acquaint ourselves with similar states of mind that we will experience when we die. As the poet Kabir said of death, “What is found now is found then.” Liminality, like the bardo principle altogether, has vast applicability. Find out for yourself in this rich conversation! -- Jennifer Dumpert is a San Francisco-based writer, lecturer, and consciousness hacker. She is the author of the recently released Liminal Dreaming: Exploring Consciousness at the Edges of Sleep and the founder of the Oneironauticum, an international organization that explores the phenomenological experience of dreams as a means of experimenting with mind. She also teaches the practice of Liminal Dreaming—surfing the edges of consciousness using hypnagogic and hypnopompic dream states. Jennifer has lectured and led workshops at festivals, conferences, and venues worldwide. She has also authored numerous pieces about various aspects of dream work. You can read selected pieces and watch videos of presentations at Jennifer's website, http://www.urbandreamscape.com. As an active member of the Consciousness Hacking movement, Jennifer has presented at CH SF, CH NYC, and the Transformational Technology conference. Get ready to shake your yoga nidra pompoms! On this episode, Rest Sisters from the Daring to Rest Academy join me to share our key takeaways from The First International Yoga Nidra Conference. We discuss the theme of unity that pervaded the conference despite the different lineages of yoga nidra represented and reflect on what is a feminine approach to yoga nidra, how we express this in Daring to Rest programs, and Uma Dinsmore-Tuli's permission to be ‘wild within the structure' of the practice. I ask about the network versus hierarchy debate posed at the conference, and we offer insight on the idea of post-lineage yoga nidra that allows us to play inside the framework. We delve into Kamini Desai's metaphor around being a container for what is rather than identifying with what comes and goes—and describe how yoga nidra effectively reorganizes our relationship with our emotions. “If you actually understood what a woman has been through: the conception journey, pregnancy, birth, the whole process—what’s happening demands full respect and a deep care. To imagine that people would just snap back into their size 0 jeans and walk out, it begs disbelief. There’s no respect for what’s arisen. And in the yoga world, we’ve fed right into that.” Uma Dinsmore-Tuli is a yoga teacher, a yoga teacher trainer, and wrote the tome Yoni Shakti: A Woman’s Guide to Power and Freedom through Yoga and Tantra, which connects feminism, blood rites, and yoga.   What You’ll Learn: The postpartum woman just did the biggest stretch there is - Birth What yoga IS appropriate for postpartum women About the yoga patriarchy About why it matters to be a woman and what stage of life you are in for yoga practice.   What You’ll Hear: -She needs stability nurture and a real sense of being mothered -Postpartum period is 5 years. -Deep inner work of breath and awareness to the pelvic floor and breastfeeding -Stability practices, using the closing practices of yoga in a community, grassroots environment. -When the advice “take care of yourself” is all you get when you go to a group yoga class doesn’t meet a woman’s needs -What is the yoga patriarchy? -The feelings of exclusion in the yoga sangha -The yoga can subtly welcome the whole range of our life as humans -Postpartum is messy, dirty, tiring and grumpy, and the extraordinary capacity that yoga has to help us through this. -Anchara mauna- Inner silence, tuning to the present moment, while breastfeeding and tuning in to the senses. -The Fourth Trimester- whole process of healing is being overlooked -You can’t tell how healed a woman is after having a baby — “All those ladies that look so great in bikinis, you don’t know what’s in their underwear” -Postpartum energy is present after miscarriages, stillborns, and near-death experiences -The goddess of the Fourth Trimester -Postpartum care is not a mental health issue: it’s a body issue -Even if you don’t have a traumatic birth, birth is still a heartbreaking, heart-opening experience -The yoga world hasn’t helped with judgments around birth -Birth images: to hire a photographer, or not -If you have great postpartum care, you’ll metabolize the birth experience, no matter how it went -Even the most gentle birth is a powerful experience and needs healing at a cellular level -- you are in shock during the fourth trimester -You are a new woman after birth -- you need the presence of wise women, to help you make the best choices for your healing -New mothers need everything new babies need -Learning to be okay in the not knowing, and learning to rest: menstruation, birth, postpartum, and menopause -Repair is always possible

Learn how to feed your creativity through a unique approach to yoga for women with renowned teacher and author Uma Dinmore-Tuli. "I don't want anything to do with that cosmic spell that says this is how women should be, because it's just rubbish, it's just not true." - Uma Dinmore-Tuli In this episode of #moonwisepodcast, we speak with renowned teacher and author Uma Dinmore-Tuli about her unique approach to yoga designed especially for women's bodies and life experiences from youth to old age.  Uma met yoga in 1969, at the age of four, and fell in love. But after many years of studying and teaching traditional methods, she found herself frustrated with a system that was primarily designed by men and for men. She began to explore practices that could better support women's bodies, hearts and minds at all ages. She now teaches women's yoga around the world and has authored four books on the topic, including the massive Yoni Shakti.  In our conversation, we talk about Uma's definition of a womb and why it's such an important space for creativity.  She reminds us, "our bodies are the earth" and "the womb space is connected to water and earth, that's why it's so creative." We discuss the unique historical moment we're in as women and how the resurgence of ancient feminine wisdom has been facilitated through social media. We talk about surrender as the ultimate act of courage and our hopes for future generations of girls.  We also talk about:  Working with life force energy at any age / Why traditional yoga may be depleting for women / How to avoid yoga injuries in the post-natal period / The connection of womb and climate awareness / Living shame free for our daughters
