Hi beautiful human! I'm really grateful to be welcoming Shirlee Williams back to the podcast.. This is a co-creative episode arising from our collective experience of ENOUGHNESS. Simply put, this is an episode about ENOUGH. The concept of enoughness in all it's derivations. AND I'm really inspired to be having this conversation with Shirlee Williams, a spiritual mindset coach, yoga teacher, mama to two adult twin boys and a behemoth dog. She's a partner to a fabulous endurance coach, Andrew. A breathwork facilitator, Yoga Teacher Trainer to women over 45 years of age [her YTT program is called Wisdom]. Shirlee and I co-create retreat experiences together for women - in the form of multiday retreats in extraordinary locations and one day events. [scroll down to see Reclaim - Mexico April 2024 and The Gathering - Ontario Canada July 2024]. In this episode, we talk about: Laura open's the circle in a way that we often do during retreats + special events. The concept of "enoughness" and the struggle to feel "enough" and "happy" with what one has in life. Having enough versus Being enough. The importance of knowing and living by one's values to achieve fulfillment and make meaningful decisions. Staying present and connected to the present moment to feel fulfilled. Complexity as the default and the desire for simplicity in life, referencing the rat race of always wanting "more." Listening to the heart's voice and prioritizing feelings over thoughts, as thoughts can lead to overthinking and feeling "mucked up". The need to stay aligned with oneself and not be swayed by external influences or judgments from others. The pressure to live up to certain standards and expectations in daily life. Seeking fulfillment versus seeking happiness. Living one's values leading to a greater degree of fulfillment in life. Shirlee shares her practices and how she stays connected inward to keep rooting into being enough, doing enough and having enough. Shirlee's "brag notes" as a simple technique for reminding herself how exceptional she is. The "inner work" involves asking difficult questions, listening for truth, and staying conscious of your inner work through journaling, breath work, and self-reflection. Inner work is personal and can change over time, and it is important to have agency and bring it into consciousness, even during busy seasons of life. The need to stay aligned with oneself and not be swayed by external influences or judgments from others. The one word close of the episode. The Power of Letting Go: "And it became a metaphor for life for me about what was weighing me down externally and how I could shed more of the external components, almost, of the baggage."— Shirlee Williams The Importance of Trusting and Listening to Find Truth: "It's asking the really hard, open-ended questions and listening for the truth that I know is there. And it's also, I mean, these days it's taking a tremendous amount of trust to sit and be a little uncomfortable, but know that the answer is going to come."— Shirlee Williams Self-reflection and Leaving a Lasting Impact: "I ask myself a lot, how do I want to leave the world? What kind of impact? I don't know. Maybe it's like above 50 year old message. I want to leave the world a better place. So then how am I going to show up? What kind of work do I need to do on myself to make that happen? I think that's the inner work for me these days."— Shirlee Williams The Pursuit of Happiness: "Do you want to be happy, or do you want to be fulfilled? Because I think they're just two deeply different things.'"— Laura Foster The Power of Self-Worth: "Is it true that you're not enough? Why am I not feeling enough in this moment? Or, why am I not feeling like this is enough in this moment? And I think we have to be willing to tell ourselves the truth of it. Poke some holes in our own story of not being enough."— Laura Foster Mindful Living: "What you need to do is get very clear on what those actually are like. They're already present, but you just pay attention to them. Because if you focus on living your top four or five values, chances are you're going to feel a lot more fulfilled."— Laura Foster [00:01:19] Shirlee is curious and effective mentor. [00:08:50] Exploring feelings of inadequacy and self-comparison. [00:15:20] Laura discusses deeper conversations with clients. [00:17:46] "I discern my worth, combat feelings of inadequacy." [00:24:27] Questioning pursuit of happiness vs. fulfillment. [00:30:09] Questioning one's worth, seeking external validation. [00:37:06] Desire for a stunning purse in store. [00:43:34] Clarify values to make fulfilling choices. [00:46:28] Younger generation seeks work-life balance, simple life. [00:49:55] Preparing to walk, pondering life's impact and purpose. [00:56:51] Debunk limiting beliefs and embrace self-belief. [01:02:17] Upcoming Mexico retreat, inspiring and joyful experience. Faysal Abi is back for Round 2 on the "The Joel Evan Show" podcast. If you don't know Faysal, he's one of the best bodyworkers I've ever met. After suffering a debilitating back injury from a car accident, Faysal became intimately familiar with the traditional or, “expert” approach to chronic pain and injury: pharmaceutical drugs, physical therapy, and finally surgery. When that formula failed to provide any relief, Faysal began to study the human body's design, function, pain, and the mind-body connection. After several certifications including yoga, Massage Therapy, and Posture Alignment, Faysal pieced together a powerful approach to helping people with chronic pain or those simply looking to optimize their body by increasing their strength and flexibility. With his roots in martial arts, yoga, extreme fitness and sports, Faysal is well-versed in the demands of an active body. He specializes in correcting people's posture, lessening chronic pain, and improving flexibility and strength through training. Faysal is a full-time Body Worker, Posture Alignment Specialist, Yoga teacher & Yoga Teacher Trainer based in the San Francisco Bay Area. Faysal is also a student of the Damanhur School of Meditation, a hypnotherapist and a believer in the mind-body connection. In this episode, we get into: ✅ Intuitive healing, is it even possible? ✅ Why shamans, osteopaths, chiropractors & other healers come to see him ✅ The biggest problem with current health system ✅ How emotions affect physical health & pain

We explore: How asana postures were originally intended to enhance sitting in meditation What yoga has in common with martial arts The power of pranayama, lifeforce connection Reconnecting to and remembering who we are as spirit Mantra yoga and how sound can create healing Seva or karma yoga: connecting to the divine through service How to start living the principles of yoga from wherever you are on the path How we treat our own selves, how we treat others, and how we allow others to treat us How the individual affects the collective vibrationally and vice versa And much more! It was so fun to have Lydie on the podcast because 1) she is my life partner and I'm so grateful to share her insights with the listening audience… …And also 2) so you could see who joins me in facilitating The Art of Living Immersion! The Connected Yoga Teacher Podcast 322: The Creative Cycle with Wenlin Tan Description: Feeling stuck, procrastinating, and facing a day when you don't want to do the work that is ahead of you as an entrepreneur are all normal parts of life and business. How can we understand these phases and move with them? Wenlin Tan shares insights about the creative cycle and how we can work with it instead of against it. Wenlin Tan is a Qigong and Yoga Teacher Trainer, women's health & well-being specialist, growth consultant and curious human. She specializes in supporting female yoga teachers, healers and changemakers to optimize their well-being and impact in the world by aligning with the ancient wisdom of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Eastern Philosophy, Qigong, yoga and psychology. In this episode, Wenlin explains the creative cycle and how it ties into the common challenges many entrepreneurs face such as resistance and procrastination. She shares some tools that we can use to overcome these challenges and reminds us that our ideas are not ours and we are merely vessels bringing them to the world. This is a deeply insightful conversation that can bring perspective to how we show up in our work in the world. Key Takeaways: [2:43] Shannon introduces her guest for this episode - Wenlin Tan. [5:30] What does Wenlin do and who does she do it for? [6:18] Wenlin explains a little about what the creativity cycle is. [9:10] What are some common challenges that understanding the creative cycle can help with? [12:51] We can often get stuck in trying to focus on planting new seeds (ideas) rather than doing the work of moving one seed (idea) through an entire cycle. How do we know what are "good seeds" to focus on? [16:29] The seeds do not belong to us - we are merely vessels for them. It's important not to take our "failures" personally. [17:42] The creative cycle can be related to the menstrual cycle, and it applies even for people who don't menstruate. [27:53] Shannon pops in with a word of thanks to sponsor OfferingTree. [29:36] What are the elements associated with the creative cycle? [36:35] What is the biggest struggle Wenlin sees among yoga teachers and other creatives? [41:00] What are some tools that Wenlin finds useful when you are experiencing resistance? [44:02] Wenlin shares some of the ways she finds the balance between tasks she is excited about and tasks she does not enjoy. [46:47] Learn more about Wenlin and her work via her website and social media. [49:50] Wenlin has a message for listeners. [54:39] Shannon shares some of her biggest takeaways from this conversation. Quotes from this episode: "The idea that things are linear is actually not true. The idea of growth and businesses, how we expand is actually cyclical." "Before even thinking about what seed to get attached to or what seed is a really good seed is to remember that none of the seeds really belong to us." "We can practice this cycle, but we cannot force creativity." "Growth is not linear. Work is not linear. Life is not linear. And more importantly, your path, your cycle, your strengths, your challenges will be different from someone else's."

Today I am joined by my dear friend and experienced teacher-trainer Nathalie Bennett from Live Love Yoga. We share the story of our relationship, which is supportive and collaborative, based on the shared ethos that there truly is room for us all, and supporting each other to thrive is something we all should strive to do in the yoga industry. Together we discuss how our educational experiences led to our roles as yoga teacher-trainers, why we became trainers and the evolution of that journey. And of course, how Covid resulted in us both now having online yoga teacher training courses! What I love the most is our conversations around doing things differently, and how that leads to greater inclusivity within the yoga industry. We briefly brave the loaded topic of awarding yoga bodies, in the unregulated world that is yoga. It's jammed packed full of gold-dust information regardless of what stage of business you are at, and is particularly useful if you are considering adding in some form of training into your offer suit. Major topics covered— Caring for your sexual body Caring for your sexual body does not require a partner! That is something that you have ownership of. You are a sexual woman whether or not you are sharing sex with a partner. It is so much easier to maintain vaginal health than it is to recover vaginal health. Maybe just start with some proactive vaginal hydration every week. This is about health in your body. Our urinary system, our vulva (outside), our vagina (inside), and the pelvic floor muscles are all impacted by the loss of estrogen in our systems. Using a full-sized vibrator with penetration at least twice a week to promote blood flow to the vagina will help maintain vaginal health, in the flexibility, in the length of its accommodation, and in the circumference of the accommodation. Listen to your body and be proactive! If you have painful intercourse, hydrate for at least two weeks, then move to dilation. Vaginal moisturizing/hydration (hydrates the tissue and promotes vaginal health) Vaginal estrogen Oral estrogen Oral estrogen combined with a non-hormonal gel Non-hormonal (hyaluronic acid products Traci recommends: Hyalo Gen Revaree Gynatrof Dilation (work) / Vibrators (fun) If sex is painful, go for a dilator Traci likes the Dr. Laura Berman Intimate Basics - Dilator Set Vibrators can be used to promote blood flow, to relax the muscles, and for pleasure Start simple until you can figure out what you like. https://www.rosetoy-official.com/ is the website mentioned, but it's certainly not the only one! Lubricants (reduces friction) - Traci recommends the following lubes Water-based lubes: Good Clean Love, Enchanted Rose, Velvet Rose Silicone-based lubes aren't recommended—they can degrade a vibrator so don't use together. Hybrid lubes: Naked Silk, Wet Gold Vaginal pH Prevention (these things will maintain a healthy environment in the vagina): Probiotics (research the biome's relationship to the vagina), vaginal estrogen, hyaluronic acid When you have recurrent bacterial infections in your vagina, Traci prescribes boric acid. Please don't use products that have fragrances! Urethral prolapse Can be caused by a combination of loss of estrogen, chronic constipation, overweight, pregnancy, childbirth, weak pelvic floor muscles, pelvic trauma. Typical treatment plan Vaginal estrogen Hydration of vaginal walls with dilation Pelvic floor therapy to strengthen muscles Use of Cialis in women FDA hasn't been approved for women. Option is to use cuddle cream / scream cream. It's easy. Put it where you want it without systemic effect. Vaginal exams Pediatric speculums are available if you are concerned about adult-sized speculums Feel free to ask if you can remain clothed to have a conversation with your gynecologist before your exam. Great idea! Advocate for yourself! Women's Healthcare Provider Worksheet Download here – https://sexafterbreastcancer.com/ Medications and sex All the meds that impact the central nervous system may impact you sexually. SSRIs have a pretty high impact on desire (diminished or inability to orgasm OR persistent genital arousal). SSRIs approved to treat depression are Celexa, Lexapro, Prozac, Paxil, Pexeva, Zoloft. Play with the timing of your meds See if you can lower the dosage Some anti-depressants that have fewer sexual side effects: Wellbutrin, Remeron, Viibryd, Trintellix NOTE: Links shown are informational only and are not indicative of the only pricing available. Connie's motivational quote for today is by – Sean Covey, “Depending on what they are, our habits will either make us or break us. We become what we repeatedly do.” The quote hit me when I found it online. I think most of us are routine people whether we realize those habits or not. I love habits and when I am coaching or training my clients, I share the value of good habits and how systemizing them (rinse and repeat if you will) allows us to stop thinking about the habit and allow it to just become part of who we are or who we are hoping to become. I am always excited when I get to share a guest who helps us bring the quote I started with to life. Meaning, that we can be thoughtful with our habits that can create a life of joy and happiness. From The Heart, a podcast about Yoga, Mindfulness, Healing and Wellbeing
In this episode we talk to Aneta Idczak, an experienced Yoga, Mindfulness and Embodiment Teacher about how yoga teachers need to become aware of the levels of trauma people in their classes may be experiencing and to understand ways to hold a class that does not retraumatise the students and the power of a therapeutic yoga practise a tool for healing and support. We discussed "what is safety", we looked at what consent means within a class structure and the importance of staying curious and open both as a teacher and a student. We also spoke about the importance of working through our own trauma and wellbeing - "If your practice has become your teaching you are out of balance." Aneta also spoke about being Polish and how wonderful the Polish people have been opening their arms to the Ukrainian refugees - a true sign of compassion. Aneta, Daniel and Dawn were deeply moved by the importance of community as a healing tool and model for our world going forward. Gone are the days of the GURU's and the commercialisation of yoga, a new world is emerging post covid. In a world that feels volatile and unstable community and kindness, a deeper understanding of the need for trauma sensitive work within our communities that include people who do not practise yoga, therapists, body workers, and others who can support creates a world that is open to the possibility of change and greater love and wisdom. We loved our chat with Aneta and felt we had so much more to talk about. Aneta Idczak is an experienced Yoga, Mindfulness and Embodiment Teacher, Yoga Teacher Trainer and Yoga Business Mentor, as well as Somatic Coach, BSE and Focusing Practitioner and Bodyworker; She is a Founder of Golden Mandala Yoga-Soma Institute providing accredited Trauma-informed Yoga and Embodied Resilience Teacher Training and Mentoring (TREY), and various CPDs on Somatics and Trauma-informed Yoga. Aneta works with needs-led integrative approach drawing on three decades of studying various psychological, therapeutic and body-focused modalities, and her approach is further influenced by over two decades of working in Social Care and in community with Trauma, Mental Health, Addiction, DV and child protection issues, and training and supervising front line workers. You can find information about Aneta's training and mentoring programmes including 80-Hr Trauma-informed Yoga and Embodied Resilience Teacher Training and Mentoring at www.anetai.co.uk. You are also invited to join Aneta's community FB group called Trauma-Informed Yoga and Embodied Resilience for Social Impact - for weekly live trainings and interviews, resources and support. *** From The Heart is a podcast about Yoga, Mindfulness, healing and wellbeing from Dawn Lister and Daniel Groom, founders of Anahata Yoga Centre, Leigh-on-Sea, Essex, UK. As time passes, I hear more and more about the importance of self-care and being present to help with the day-to-day stressors in life. For me, yoga is a lifeline that helps me quiet my mind, stretch and strengthen my body, and allows me to feel strong and calm. What a great combination for me because I have an active Monkey mind and quieting my mind has not been an easy task, for me, through the years. I am always excited when I get to share a guest who helps us bring the quote I started with to life. Meaning, that we can bring the yoga mat with us as we live our lives. Today's topic is one of my favorites to talk about as I truly believe it's the foundational piece to having, receiving and giving anything in life. We must first love ourselves, wholly and completely so that our life will mirror that love. The topic of self love seems simplistic, although it encompasses much more than one single thing. Self love is acceptance, compassion, resilience, honesty, respect, and much more. Today's guest has spent years sharing this message and embodying the practice herself. She shares her healing journey and discovery of what it means to feel and know you are radically loved. Welcome my guest, Rosie Acosta. She is an Inspirational Speaker, Yoga & Meditation Teacher, Yoga Teacher Trainer, and a Holistic Health Coach. She has studied yoga and mindfulness for more than 20 years and taught for over a decade. About: After suffering a debilitating back injury from a car accident, Faysal became intimately familiar with the traditional or, “expert” approach to chronic pain and injury: pharmaceutical drugs, physical therapy, and finally surgery. When that formula failed to provide any relief, Faysal began to study the human body's design, function, pain and the mind-body connection. After several certifications including yoga, Massage Therapy and Posture Alignment, Faysal pieced together a powerful approach to helping people with chronic pain or those simply looking to optimize their body by increasing their strength and flexibility. With his roots in martial arts, yoga, extreme fitness and sports, Faysal is well versed in the demands of an active body. He specializes in correcting people's posture, lessening chronic pain, and improving flexibility and strength through training. Faysal is a full time Body Worker, Posture Alignment Specialist, Yoga teacher & Yoga Teacher Trainer based in the San Francisco Bay Area. Faysal is also a student of the Damanhur School of Meditation, a hypnotherapist and a believer in the mind body connection. These are their for real, for real stories about how they followed their heart’s calling to do what they’re meant to do. This means we get to hear the sticky middle and all - How’d they start? Did they have a plan? How did they make money? Ashely Zuberi is a yoga teacher, mentor to yoga teachers and author in the making who also runs an online yoga business. She gives us candid insight to how she followed the flow of life (ebbing and flowing between a marketing and yoga career for many years) and into a place where she gets to do what she really loves - teaching and writing.

A few years ago I overheard a couple of women talking about how Kundalini changed their lives. Devine feminine energy, breath of fire, kriyas, and all that other stuff. At the time all I knew about Kundalini was what I had seen as a child. People in the park dressed in white loose clothing with big turbans wrapped around their head, chanting and signing. Even sometimes dancing. Well it's come a long way since then and so have I. Brought to the west from India in the late 1960's Kundalini is having a revival of sorts and there couldn't be a better time! It has been called "The Yoga of awareness," and is said to ignite powerful transformation and even lead to spiritual awakenings. Look what it did for Gabby Bernstein....plus it can give you amazing abs, lol. Just ask Gwyneth, Jennifer, Gisele, or Seal. But what is it really? In this episode I sit down with International Kundalini teacher and founder of LightHouse Yoga Center, Julie Eisenberg (ERYT-500) to explain and demystify what Kundalini yoga really is and what you can expect. From reducing anxiety and the science behind the benefits to our digestive health, to personal awareness and transformation of mind, body, and soul. Kundalini yoga can boost your immune system, bring you back to balance and you don't need to know any yoga poses or even be flexible to enjoy the benefits. This delightful interview will leave you feeling informed, optimistic and motivated to ignite your own self care journey. Favorite show quote: "...take individual responsibility for creating a better world." ~ Julie Eisenberg We will also mention: Positive health benefits of Kundalini Effects on the glandular system + gut health Kundalini Energy Chakras Self love importance of meditation, self care, stress relief Why Kundalini yogis wear white Kundalini awakening Try and try again. Sat Devbir Singh, Dr. of Divinity, is an International Speaker, Yoga Teacher Trainer, Energy Healer, and Ordained Minister. He believes that we all come to being as Masters of destiny, empowered to create fulfilling life experiences. At an early age, he realized his ability to receive information from the spiritual world and his extrasensory gifts became apparent. From that moment forward, his greatest joy has been to help people realize the innate love, value, and wisdom within themselves. Some call him a Shaman, Healer, or Spiritual Teacher. Others call him a Yogi, Light Worker, or Intuitive Guide. He believes his only power is the power of neutrality, which allows the pure energy of Source to work through him, not because of him. Currently based in Los Angeles, he hopes to uplift the planet in the spirit of Oneness and aims to unveil the True and Highest Self in every one of us. In this episode we speak about everything from: ~ what the holographic universe is and how we are actually living in a matrix ~ who and what we truly are (hint: it's not the basic human form) ~ liberation from suppression and increasing your energetic vibration ~ the journey of our soul and exploring the shadow side ~ the power of crystals and gemstones (plus how to use them) ~ expanding consciousness through sex and physical intimacy ~ one night stands (and how they can be full of love and heart) ~ how kundalini energy and sexual energy are the same ~ addiction to victimhood and what's needed to break the cycle ~ developing relationship with your Higher Self ~ and much more! It's Truth + Tequila Tuesday! This week's questions comes from Sarah and she says: Every year for my job I have to take risk training on suicide and sexual assault. It's a requirement. We have a deadline to complete the tests. And today I just did training on suicide. The same thing happens to me each year. I start to get really tired and a feeling of exhaustion comes over me. My stomach hurts and I get a really painful sensation throughout my body that's very, very uncomfortable. I don't like any of these feelings. In Puja Yoga we acknowledge the divinity within each of us. Along with the many physical benefits of the practice, we also consciously encounter and nurture the flame of love and compassion within. We honor through yogic practice the divinity inside and all around us. Puja Yoga supports us in connecting with the divinity we all carry and through our practice we deepen our connections to inner peace, health, compassion, understanding, and love. Puja is a common name in India. This spiritual name was given to me when I lived at the Kripalu Center in Western Massachusetts, USA in the 1980's (at the time if was an Ashram or Spiritual Community). Puja means seeing the highest (the divine) in everything. In “The Puja Ceremony” the elements or earth, water, fire, air and space/ether are offered to the divinity within and around us. Traditionally rice, water, candles, flower petals and incense respectively are used to represent these elements. These are offered to a specific deity, incarnation of the divine or to the divinity in any person sprinkling each “element” in turn over a photo, portrait, living person, spiritual teacher or beloved. Valeria interviews Sue Flamm the author of Restorative Yoga: with Assists A Manual for Teachers and Students of Yoga ( in English and Spanish.) A work that guides us to master the art of teaching and practicing Restorative Yoga and deep relaxation. A recourse for yoga teacher training programs, seasoned teachers and students of yoga. Includes over 100 photos to help you to understand each posture and a set of simple yet profound assists to take your students into deeper relaxation. With decades of teaching yoga to every level of practitioner in the US, Guatemala, Mexico, Cuba, Europe, South Africa and China, Sue Flamm (Puja) delivers a clear, compassionate training manual to deepen your understanding of Restorative Yoga. She has led numerous trainings, retreats, workshops, and thousands of classes around the world. She spent six years on staff at Kripalu Center as a yoga teacher, massage therapist, program director and cook. She has owned two yoga centers, managed a third and managed a pre post natal learning center in the northeast of the USA. For our 35th episode, I sat down with Michele Klink. Michele was one of my mentors throughout my first teacher training. She supported me in my growth as a new teacher, and I was always inspired by her passion and dedication for teaching. I have been amazed with how she weaves in philosophical, energetic and spiritual context in her classes, and when I saw that she was offering a workshop on Yoga and the 5 senses, I thought that would be the perfect opportunity to have her on the show as a guest.5 BIGGEST TAKE AWAY FROM THIS EPISODE1. The senses are the window to the world we see. Over stimulation of the senses create a fatigue that dulls our senses and therefore our view of the outside world in a way that prevents us to see what is truly there.2. The goal is to focus on one sense, then withdraw a little bit away from the sense to quiet the mind chatter that is associated with that sense. Allow the awareness of your consciousness to grown until you withdraw completely to be able to really the world as it is ; pure peace, joy and so on.3. The senses can control the mind and the mind can control our senses. Your sense can deplete you or you can awaken your inner pharmacy of healing through your 5 senses. 4. Some of the Ideas she suggested to explore the senses on the mat (more in the episode): - Sight : Try a Drishti or gaze point, visualize. - Sound : Listen to your breath, one sound or one tone in the music. - Touch : Notice how your skin feels. Use a mudra. - Smell : Smell the breath in and out the nose. Use essential oils.- Taste : Tongue mudras5. Some of the Ideas she suggested to explore the senses off the mat (more in the episode): - Sight : Go out in nature, look at the view. Sit in front of a sunset. - Sound : Beautiful music, inspirational words, a soothing voice.- Touch : Self-Massage, long hug.- Smell : Choose a smell you love and associate it with a positive emotion.- Taste : Chew your food! Stay for a few minutesQUESTIONS SHE ANSWERED DURING THIS EPISODECan you tell us about yourself, your background and your yoga journey. Can you give us a general overview of what the 5 sense mean in the context of a yoga practice and why we should pay attention to it in our modern day society?Should we focus on the senses or do we withdraw away from the senses? Is it easier to start with our dominant or favorite sense or with the opposite? Is the goal of focusing on our senses to deepen our experience of the present moment? How do we work with the 5 Senses on the mat? And how do we do it so that we are not attached to a specific desired experience and stay anchored in the present moment? How can we incorporate practices with the 5 Senses off the mat, for example for Optimal Health? If there was one takeaway you’d like listeners to leave with what would it be.SUBSCRIBE, RATE & REVIEW!GIVEAWAY WINNER. Ayurveda is the ancient science of health and wellness that originated in India over 5,000 years ago. Ayurveda is widely practiced internationally and is gaining recognition as a complete holistic field of medicine. Ayurveda has very specific recommendations for maintaining physiological balance during each season. During summer months the physiologic dosha, Pitta becomes accumulated in the body. Excessively elevated levels of Pitta in the body manifests in heat symptoms such as feeling overheated, irritated, inflamed and restless. High levels of Pitta can also dry the body tissues, create excessive thirst, red eyes, skin eruptions, burning mucous membranes and even abnormal bleeding. Here are some ways to avoid the rise of Pitta and maintain homeostasis during summer months. Minimize Pitta aggravating foods and beverages such as tomatoes, bell peppers, eggplant, chilis, salsa, mustard, vinegar, sour foods, deep fried foods, alcohol, caffeine. Stay cool and hydrated. Drink plenty of filtered water. Coconut water is excellent in the summer too. In the summer months, agni, the digestive fire, is weaker. Therefore it is advised to eat lighter meals and reduce richer, heavier, harder to digest foods such as breads, cheese and meats. Ayurveda recommends meals such as fresh vegetable soups, salads and grains during the summer. Ayurveda recommends eating what is naturally growing during each season unless you have a specific imbalance. During the summer you can find a bounty of fresh vegetables at your local farmers market such as green leafy vegetables, asparagus, cucumber, beets, snap peas, celery, carrots, zucchini, corn, rhubarb. Eat plenty of summer fruits such as apricots, plums, peaches, cherries, blackberries, blueberries, nectarines, watermelon, grapes, mango, papaya and raspberries. Pitta pacifying herbs and spices such as fennel, cardamom, coriander, cilantro and mint can help keep balanced. Exercise during the cooler morning or evening hours. Take cooler showers or go for a swim. Practice more yin yoga with slow gentle stretches and cooling breath techniques such as nadi shodhana or sheetali pranayama. I hope you all have a enjoyable summer and stay healthy.
