On Day 11 of Richard Allen's trial in the Delphi murders, the court focused on testimonies related to Allen's mental health and alleged confessions while in prison. Dr. Monica Wala, a psychologist from Westville Correctional Facility, testified about Allen's mental state during his time in prison. She described symptoms of depression, suicidal ideation, and other psychological struggles that Allen faced during his 13 months in solitary confinement. The defense argued that these conditions may have contributed to Allen's behavior and alleged confessions, which were not recorded but documented by prison staff. Dr. Wala confirmed that Allen was under significant mental stress, particularly during his initial months at the facility. The defense also highlighted concerns about the conditions in which Allen received therapy, pointing out that he was confined in a small cage during sessions and was often shackled.Additionally, the day included testimony regarding a car allegedly seen near the crime scene on the day of the murders. Steve Mullin testified that the only 2016 black Ford Focus SE registered in Carroll County belonged to Richard Allen, but the defense argued that the car in the footage could have belonged to someone else, as similar models were registered in surrounding areas. The trial ended with emotional exchanges, including an argument between the defense attorney and Brad Weber, a witness who owns property near the crime scene. Weber vehemently denied a claim made by the defense regarding his activities on the day of the murders. The day concluded with anticipation for more evidence, as the jury was scheduled to listen to audio recordings in the next session.(commercial at 10:32)to contact me:bobbycapucci@protonmail.comsource:‘I just want to sign my confession': Suspect gives his account of Delphi murders to prison psychologist | WTNH.com

Dennis House is an Emmy Award-winning broadcast journalist and is celebrated as one of Connecticut's most influential figures. One of his first big breaks was breaking the rules to get an interview with President Ronald Reagan. For the last 30 years he's brought a local perspective to some of the biggest news stories and has appeared nationally in the Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, Politico, MSNBC and many others. Today, Dennis anchors the nightly newscasts at WTNH News 8. We talk about the move to WTNH, overcoming adversity and his childhood aspiration of always wanting to work in news. CT News stations have an epic fear mongering showdown. We crown the king of fear between WFSB and WTNH. How Happy is CT really? We examine a new study that says we have work to do. Lou suggests we give up on the city of Bridgeport but the listeners defend their city.
Where do we begin? For starters, Ann Nyberg has spent more than 40 years in television news. She's the longest-serving female news anchor/reporter in Connecticut television history. You've probably seen her on WTNH News 8 for the 5, 6, 10 or 11 o'clock nightly newscasts. Or, maybe you've caught her own show called “NYBERG” where she interviews all sorts of interesting guests. Ann's list of accomplishments is impressive. In 2015 she was inducted into the Silver Circle, an honor given to television professionals who have made significant contributions to their community and to the vitality of the television industry. Ann has also been voted the Best News Anchor for a decade in the Connecticut Magazine readers' poll, has been nominated for multiple Emmys, published two books, founded a charity, and was awarded the Spirit of the Katharine Hepburn Award. Above all else she is devoted to her family and enjoys spending time with her children and grandchildren. So how does she keep going? What inspires her? What kind of lessons has she learned throughout her career? We find this out and so much more! Connect with Ann Nyberg: www.wtnh.com www.twitter.com/AnnNyberg
"Named one of the “12 Most Influential People” by Hartford Magazine, and recently “Best Anchor” by Connecticut Magazine, native New England and Emmy award winning Dennis House is one of the most experienced and highly regarded broadcast journalists in Connecticut. Dennis can be seen co-anchoring the 6 and 11 o'clock newscasts with Ann Nyberg weeknights, on WTNH-TV, Connecticut's ABC station. While at WTNH, Dennis has broken many stories including a secret plan to downgrade the University of Hartford's athletic program to exclusive interviews with Vice-President Kamala Harris and reputed mobster Robert Gentile, whom the FBI suspected was involved in the biggest art heist in world history. From 1992 to 2020 Dennis was at WFSB-TV, (CBS) where he anchored the morning news for two years before moving to the evening news where was a mainstay for more than 25 years. He also hosted the critically acclaimed “Face the State” for more than a dozen years. Dennis' work over the years led to many changes in state government and campaigns and his interviews were often picked up by local and national media organizations including the Wall Street Journal, the Washington Post, the Politico, MSNBC and others." - https://dennishouse.tv/

A father who had previously been charged with child abuse faces new cruelty charges after allegedly forcing a child to eat feces. Kevin Grant and his wife, Kaitlin Baptiste, were arrested in 2020 after Grant was accused of forcing a child to sleep in a locked closet, kneel on tacks, and drink hot sauce, according to WTNH-TV. Grant's wife allegedly knew about the abuse but did nothing to stop it. According to WTNH, Grant was initially arrested and charged with intentional cruelty to persons, risk of injury to a child, and second-degree reckless endangerment. On August 10, a new arrest warrant was issued for Grant, accusing him of additional charges. Currently, there are four victims accusing Grant of abuse. According to the arrest warrant, a child victim told authorities that his brother was forced to "go to the bathroom in a box." According to the child, Grant "smelled the poop" one day and forced his brother to eat it. According to reports, one child was forced to "lick his pee off the toilet seat because he had peed on it." According to the warrant, Grant repeatedly hit one of the children with his belt and threatened to kick him in the genital area if he spoke back to Grant. Grant is also accused of forcing one of the kids to hit another with a bat. According to the arrest warrant, Grant stuffed firecrackers into one of the other children's pants and set them off. Grant was arrested on August 10 and is scheduled to appear in court on October 5. If you like TRUE CRIME TODAY - Be sure to search and subscribe wherever you download podcasts! That was 112 years before Roger Williams arrived. If you feel inclined, you can still visit Verrazzano's family home in Tuscany. Now, we turn our feature story A pelican that got blown off course and was rescued in chilly Connecticut has been flown to Florida, where he is recovering from pneumonia and frostbite. The brown pelican, nicknamed Arvy, was rescued from the icy Connecticut River on Jan. 27. The bird, whose species is not typically seen in the Northeast, was taken to a bird rehabilitation facility in Killingworth, Connecticut, suffering from severe hypothermia. Christine Cummings, president of A Place Called Hope, told TV station WTNH: 'when Arvy first arrived, this poor bird couldn't even stand, couldn't lift his head,”. Cummings cared for the wayward bird nearly around the clock for about a week, feeding him fluids and food every three hours. The shorebird consumed some 4 pounds of fish daily with its 11-inch bill. Then on Thursday, volunteer pilots flew Arvy to his new home at Busch Wildlife Sanctuary in Jupiter, Florida, where he will continue recuperating until he is well enough to be released into the wild. Stephanie Franczak, the sanctuary's hospital director said that “Arvy looks good!” “His frostbite is minimal, but he has some wicked pneumonia from the cold. We will be providing fluid therapy, nebulizing treatments and supportive care while he is with us." His rescuers believe Arvy was blown north from Virginia Beach during a storm at sea. Carolina Young, spokesperson for the Florida sanctuary provided her assessment: “He is a Southern bird, he is not supposed to be north of the Carolinas and Virginia,” “I'm sure he was in shock when he was in that river.” To read the latest on this story and to see pictures of Arvy, head over to westerleysun.com. There are a lot of businesses in our community that are hiring right now, so we're excited to tell you about some new job listings. Today's Job posting comes from the Weekapaug Inn in Westerly. Chris began his career in the Turfgrass Science industry when he was seventeen years old. He was hired as help for a Summer at Woodway Country Club in Darien, CT. While he was primarily looking forward to fresh air and sun while working, he became fascinated with the extensive science that was behind the maintenance of grass at such a high level. He had been mowing his home lawn since he was twelve, but had never realized just how much there was to it. Chris enrolled at Penn State University based on the stellar reputation of their Turfgrass Science program. While there, he spent Summers working in Turfgrass Pathology research, and at a Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course in the Pittsburgh, PA area. In 1994 he received a B.S. Degree in Turfgrass Science and returned home to Connecticut as the Assistant Superintendent of Rockrimmon Country Club in Stamford. Though he had been working aggressively toward a career in Golf Course Maintenance, his own aspirations gradually shifted toward business ownership. Though he tried to stay the course he had set, entrepreneurial instincts took over and he quickly grew to dislike the daily grind of the golf course business. He left Rockrimmon to re-plan his career and soon met Peter Teed, who had been working for a local lawn care company as a manager and salesman. The two hit it off quickly and realized that they complemented each other well. In September, 1995 they incorporated their business as “GrassRoots Lawn Care, Inc.” The name was changed to Teed & Brown in August, 2004. In addition to holding a Bachelors Degree in Turfgrass Science, Chris is a Certified Lawn Care Manager. He has appeared as a guest speaker at The University of Rhode Island, SUNY Cobleskill, Penn State University, The University of Connecticut, and at several professional conferences over the years. He has also appeared as a guest lawn care expert on Connecticut channel WTNH.

Classroom 2.0 LIVE webinar "Picture Book Month and celebration of Dianne de Las Casas" with Tara Lazar, Katie Davis, John Couret and Paula Naugle. October 14, 2017 Today's webinar is a very special show for us! We have the opportunity to learn all about Picture Book Month from Tara Lazar and Katie Davis, co-founders and renowned children's authors. Picture Book Month was envisioned and founded by Dianne de Las Casas who was our special guest presenter in May, 2017 on Classroom 2.0 LIVE. Sadly, Dianne lost her life in a tragic fire recently and we wanted to honor her legacy by celebrating her life through this featured presentation about Picture Book Month. We will learn about the importance of picture books for students and Picture Book Month. They have created an outstanding Teacher's Guide for participants in Picture Book Month. Our presenters will also share some of their special memories of Dianne de Las Casas including a special visit from John Couret who began writing children’s books because of Dianne’s inspiration. Author Tara Lazar has six picture books in print with many more to come. Her latest title is “7 Ate 9: The Untold Story” from Disney*Hyperion. Next fall look for her illustrated dictionary “500 Words to Bumfuzzle Your Teachers & Bamboozle Your Frenemies”. Tara is the founder of STORYSTORM, a writer’s brainstorming challenge formerly known as Picture Book Idea Month. She is a picture book mentor for We Need Diverse Books and the co-chair of the Rutgers University Council on Children’s Literature annual conference. Katie’s secret superpower is her ability to teach non-techy and tech-fearful writers how to become better business people by building their platforms through social media, video, and creating/building mailing lists. Also known in her niche as one of the first writer entrepreneurs, Katie has created many events and courses for writers, including How to Create Your Author Platform (and Market Your Books without Being Pushy), Video Idiot Boot Camp, and Picture Book Summit (the largest and first online conference of its kind). Her podcast, Brain Burps About Books, is consistently ranked in the top 10 book-related categories. She’s appeared regularly on WTNH and The Huffington Post. She is the director of the Institute of Children’s Literature, which provides accredited writing courses for both adult and children’s books. Katie has been honored to speak everywhere from a maximum security prison, to elementary schools, to university level, including UCONN and Yale, and has keynoted conferences and fundraising galas. You can subscribe to Katie’s YouTube channel at KatieDavis.TV or the #1 podcast in iTunes in Children’s Publishing by going to KatieDavis.com/podcast. Katie Davis’s books, published by Harcourt, S&S, HarperCollins, and Diversion Books, have sold over 755,000 copies, which is why she’s published How to Promote Your Children’s Book, a marketing guide for writers that debuted at #1 on Amazon. http://picturebookmonth.com/ https://taralazar.com/storystorm/ http://katiedavis.com/ https://www.gofundme.com/4b4y0xs (Go Fund Me in Celebration of Dianne de Las Casas)
