Welcome To My Vagina, hosted by Jessy Caron and Rebekah Frank is about sexuality, gender rights, and sex education. Destroying the taboo of sex and shutting down misogyny via the black hole of the vagina. A laugh til you queef adventure in sex education made up on the spot, but probably (definitely)…
In this last episode before a much needed rest, Jessy and Rebekah talk all about our friend the nipple! We learned a ton about nipples and even found out about the strongest nipples in all the land! It has been awesome talking to you all for the past 2.5 years and…we’ll see ya….sometime down the line. Xxx 03:40: William Featherstone Montgomery looks exactly as I would have imagined. Also, he died in Dublin in 1859 so, unless he was hermetically sealed and then reanimated he is most assuredly dead. 06:15: So this extra booby is actually called an “accessory breast,” sort of like a handbag or a really cool bracelet! I found a reference to it in this journal of plastic surgery. 08:10: Check out this very informative (and maybe a tad bit confusing) article from Scientific American! 11:15: HAVE NO FEAR! The Great Nippulini has his very own website! But it isn’t actually his website, it is a website for his nipples. Contact us! Watch us! Love us! Support us at glow! Check out our new Medium page! TW: Sexual violence and rape. In this episode, Jessy and Rebekah speak with Annie who was raped when she was in college and who, despite doing all the “right” things after her attack was still unable to achieve justice through our system. Just a note, if you feel you might get triggered by this content, please skip over. It is important to us that you take care of yourself. And if you have been raped or assaulted and need help, please call the National Sexual Assault Telephone Hotline at (800)-656-HOPE (4673). By calling this number you will be routed to a local RAINN-affiliated organization based off the first six digits of your phone number. Cell phone users have the option to enter their ZIP code so they can be connected with a local sexual assault service provider. 08:45: According to RAINN, 1 out of every 6 American women has been the victim of an attempted or completed rape in her lifetime. Among graduate and undergraduate students, 11.2% of all students experience rape or sexual assault through violence, physical force or incapacitation. 09:30: Here is a document created by the White House Task Force to Protect Students from Sexual Assault in April 2014. It explains what a victim advocate is as well as what other services should be offered to students who are victims of sexual violence on campus. 10:00: Here is an article from The Atlantic that talks about how to rape kit backlog has meant that thousands of rapists have gone unfound – some of them serial predators. Women were put through the terror and discomfort of doing a rape kit and oftentimes they are never tested. They just sit in warehouses and rot. 13:00: Here is “an updated definition of rape” from the archives of the Department of Justice, published January 6, 2012. In it, the DOJ makes considerations for incapacitation due to alcohol ingestion when it says, “because many rapes are facilitated by drugs or alcohol, the new definition recognizes that a victim can be incapacitated and thus unable to consent because of ingestion of drugs or alcohol.” 18:10: Here is a one-stop shop for the information about Title IX. There have been a lot of changes since Tr*mp took office and put Betsy DeVos in charge of the education department. Unsurprisingly none of those changes have been good. Contact us! Watch us! Love us! We are still recording from home! Which looks like us each recording in make-shift studios – in closets, under blankets – and FaceTiming so we get that real in person feel. It was so hot in our at-home studios. But, it’s all good. This is what we do for you. Because we love you. Another thing we do is spend the morning researching the history of vajazzling! So, enjoy! And don’t forget to donate to us at glow.fm/welcometomyvagina! 01:15: “The TikTok thing with the kids” is a clear indication that Rebekah does not use TikTok and is not a kid. She is an old. 06:00: Officially obsessed with the Face To Face NYC website. Here is their complete waxing menu, including the “Marble Sac with Shaft.” 07:00: FYI Jennifer Love Hewitt’s book, The Day I Shot Cupid, was a NYTimes Best Seller. You can buy it here. 07:15: My super sleuth skills tell me that this book was written after her split from Jamie Kennedy, a stand-up comic who I personally had not heard of until right this moment. 08:00: Here is Jennifer Love Hewitt talking about vajazzling on Lopez Tonight. It is….really something. 09:00: So, real quick, Urban Dictionary has a definition of the term “vagina buffet” which is as follows: “A time at which one eats as much vagina as humanly possible and finished it off with a big, hearty mug of ‘gina juice.” Also, you can buy Vagina Buffet: Bite Size Tales of a Brazilian Waxer here. 12:46: Here is the article from The Cut where a lot of our vajazzle intel came from. And a link to Frances Goodman’s “Vajazzling Series.” 18:30: Here is a link to an article all about vagina stencils! The only mistake you can make is not getting involved, whether that be through conversations with friends, donating money, whatever. Black lives matter. Stay safe. Love, Jessy and Rebekah
We did not have wine before we recorded this intro. JK we had all the wine. But be sure to donate to us at glow.fm/welcometomyvagina so we can keep buying wine and bringing you this content that you so desperately need. On today’s episode, we spoke with Lola Jean and the Reluctant Sexpert all about kinks and fetishes and consent. Make sure to stick around until the end to hear us thoroughly offended about a listicle that we read. 05:00: Check out our interview on Is Our Love…? Podcast here! 05:30: In case you did not grow up in the late ‘80s, early ‘90s, here is a link to THE Double Mint Gum commercial for your listening pleasure. 05:45: And here is Lola Jean’s “Pass the Porn” project which works to bring ethical porn to the forefront rather than having people shamefully hiding their porn habit behind closed doors and incognito settings. 08:45: Here is a Wiki page about Cytherea in case you’re curious. She is known for her ability to ejaculate. Go Cytherea! 10:30: Here is the TimeOut announcement for the 2019 Kinky Carnival. In this episode Jessy and Rebekah went LIVE….virtually. We did an Instagram Live sesh where we talked about body hair during the pandemic. No waxing? No shaving? No problem! This is a time where we can get back to our roots – no pun intended – and figure out what feels right to us without the input from society. Also, check us out on glow.fm/welcometomyvagina where you can purchase our AMAZING merchandise. We will be posting images this week on our Instagram so make sure to stay tuned for that! And without further adieu… 02:50: Yup, looks like our body odor DOES change during quarantine! According to this Vice article, our body odor is determined by the microbes that live on our skin. Those microbes are influenced by whoever we spend time around. When we engage in skin-to-skin contact with other people, we share our microbial community and therefore our odors are changed. Currently, the people we come in contact with has been severely diminished and therefore our personal microbial community, and therefore our body odor, has changed! 03:30: If you all want to support us currently and going forward – and score some amazing merchandise! – make sure to become a monthly subscriber on glow.fm/welcometomyvagina. We will be dropping a bonus episode every month for people who donate monthly at $5 or more! 06:45: Maybe Rebekah was thinking about this article by Dave Barry? Which we think is satire? 11:00: Here is the Amanda Mull article from The Atlantic that Jessy was referring to. 24:30: At this point Jessy actually cut a bit of her hair. So, this is what you are missing by not coming to our live recordings. Credit to Hilla The Killa for the Body Hair song! Contact us! Watch us! Love us! Support us at glow! We have all sorts of rewards available (totes, t-shirts, tanks, underwear) AND all monthly subscribers will get access to extra exclusive content! What are you waiting for?! And now to get to the nitty gritty. Jessy started off with a VERY convincing presentation as to why hard boiled eggs are the best snacks and then we spent some time speaking with Lindsey Boylan who is running for the House of Representatives! WOW! Make sure to stick around to the end where we talk about where we would be if we could be anywhere in the world during this pandemic so make sure to stay tuned! 04:30: Meet Lindsey Boylan! She is running against Gerry Nadler for his seat representing the 10th Congressional District for the State of New York in the House of Representatives! 07:45: One issue that wasn’t addressed directly here that we want to highlight is the dangers facing the victims of domestic violence when stay-at-home orders are coupled with economic stressors. In the US, some precincts are reporting a 35% increase in DV calls, and that does not include those that go unreported, which is said to be at about 50% of total cases. You can read more about it in this article from The Intercept. 09:15: It appears as though people in the Nadler camp are very worried about Lindsey Boylan. Read about it in The Washington Post, Business Insider and Teen Vogue. 15:00: Ron Desantis is actually the governor of Florida and he is totally fucking this entire thing up. But the person Rebekah was thinking of is the Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick who said that there are a lot of old people who would sacrifice themselves to open the economy up earlier and, essentially, that getting business rolling is more important than the loves of potentially hundreds of thousands of people. And he can say that because he himself is old. Read about it in this article from Vanity Fair. 20:45: We are, in fact, around the same age! 24:15: It is true, the yearly salary for members of Congress is $174,000. A number that has been unchanged since 2009, the same year as minimum wage was raised from $6.55 to $7.25 per hour. Just saying. 30:00: As of March 13th, the government was planning on kicking 700,000 people off SNAP benefits as per this Vox article. But, due to the coronavirus, a federal judge blocked Trump’s plan. That being said, people can’t use their SNAP benefits to purchase groceries online, which means that some of the most vulnerable in society are forced to go to a grocery store if they want to eat. 32:30: Important note: the Virginia legislature has flipped blue – Democratic governor, as well as a majority in the state House and Senate – which means it is something of a testing ground for how a lot of these progressive policy proposals will play out over time. 36:30: This is fun. The Washington Post has decided to label all women in Congress who have children under 18 as “working moms.” Anyway, the group has nearly doubled its number to 23. There are 21 serving in the House and 2 in the Senate. So, with 535 members between the House and the Senate, 4.5% of them are women with children under 18. Contact us! Watch us! Love us! In this episode, Jessy and Rebekah interview Hallie Lieberman, author of the book Buzz: A Stimulating History of the Sex Toy. She is an absolute wealth of knowledge and her upcoming book is all about gigolos! Seriously, you do not want to miss this episode. There is so much here! And make sure to stick around till the very end when we talk about dreams and who we want to have itchy buttholes for all time. 02:00: We just released an episode with the incredible Ashlie Atkinson a few weeks (or was it years?! back. Check it out here! 02:45: Check out @siptipsurvive where bartenders will be coming at you live Tuesday-Saturday! Have a drink and leave a tip! Or if you’re hurting too, just hang out! It’s a blast. 15:00: Normal Mailer was a Pulitzer Prize winning novelist and is still considered an innovator of “creative non-fiction” alongside people like Truman Capote and Joan Didion. 16:30: Betty Dodson. Living legend. She created masturbation classes during which women sit naked in a room, learn about their bodies with a hand mirror and then explore, ultimately figuring out how to pleasure themselves. Dodson believes that women’s sexual pleasure and general empowerment are tied together and you cannot be empowered without true sexual liberation. 22:30: Rudolph Valentino died in 1926 at age 31! He was an Italian actor based in the United States and was considered the original “Latin lover.” He is SUPER interesting. You should check him out. 35:30: Check out Tom of Finland his art is AMAZING! 46:30: Here is a questionable accounting of Paul Snider AKA The Jewish Pimp. 47:30: Here is Hallie’s BuzzFeed article! Maybe?) Although who knows because there was only one known victim – Elizabeth Short. 29:30: Lizzie Halliday was the first woman sentenced to death by the electric chair. She ended up having her sentence commuted and died in a mental hospital in June of 1918 36:00: Here is an article about the choices made at Charity Hospital in the days following the devastation of Hurricane Katrina. 41:00: Extra weird fact! Don’t Count Out Warren! In this special Super Tuesday release of Welcome To My Vagina, Jessy and Rebekah talk about Elizabeth Warren, our by far #1 pick for president of the United States. Seriously, we love her. She is badass and she got Chris Mathews fired! SUPER HERO STATUS! Before we get started, donate to us at glow.fm/welcometomyvagina BUT ALSO give some money to Elizabeth Warren if you can. And come to our live even this Sunday at Threes Brewing! 00:45: Come to our live event! It is part of International Women’s Day at Threes Brewing. We’re going to do give aways, play games and record a podcast in front of your very eyes all about shit that women couldn’t do until recently! Like, file for divorce! It’ll be loads of fun. 01:45: Artist Jackie Ann Ruiz made “She’s Electable if you Fucking Vote 4 Her” t-shirts, stickers, tanks, totes etc. These are all also available without the swear words for the less potty-mouthed among us. 03:00: Jessy does not actually think Hillary Clinton is shrill or unlikeable. The point here is that she had DECADES in the public eye and so every single misstep just glued itself to her in society’s eyes and so by the time she ran for president she was detested. And people could say it wasn’t about her being a woman it was about her being Hillary. But, for a lot of people, it was actually about her being a woman and that is what we are learning here right now. 06:30: If you missed it, here is our episode on Cancel Culture. It’s worth a listen. 08:00: Childcare costs more than in-state college tuition in 33 states and Washington, DC. Warren and Debra Haaland (D-NM) introduced the Universal Child Care and Early Learning Act 2019; Kamala Harris promised to make high quality child care more affordable through the Child Care for Working Families Act, both done back in 2019. Sanders introduced his early childhood plan on February 24th, 2020. 08:30: Here is the tweet to end all tweets by Kaitlin Byrd, @GothamGirlBlue 14:30: PLEASE read her plan to lower our maternal mortality rate, which, by the way, she rightly calls an epidemic. 16:10: Here is some info on her plan to deal with coronavirus, which follows up her January plan to prevent and contain infectious diseases in general. BAM. 21:00: AOC has launched her own PAC called “Courage to Change” to help fund progressive down ticket races all across the country. 22:30: So the cat is out of the bag. We recorded this episode on Saturday, February 29, before Steyer, Buttigieg and Klobuchar dropped out of the race. 28:15: Here is Ezra Klein for Vox in an article called “The case for Elizabeth Warren.” 34:45: It was from the New York Times. “As a senator, she’s known for zeroing in on seemingly obscure appointments, understanding how, say, having the wrong person as an under secretary for domestic finance could translate into real-world suffering.” Contact us! We go on at 2:30 right after our good and hilarious friend Kendra Cunningham who you should also come see. 04:20: Check out this documentary, “All My Babies…a midwife’s own story.” Produced by George C. Stoney, it was used as an educational tool for midwives in the United States with the express intention of promoting greater cooperation between midwives and the healthcare system. In 2002, it was selected for preservation by the United States National Film Registry, part of the Library of Congress. 08:15: Here is the story of Stephanie Snook, who was supposed to be interviewed for an article about indigenous women’s high rate of pregnancy-related deaths. She went into cardiac arrest before she was able to give birth to her babies and her story was barely covered by the news. 11:00: Doctors did not misplace midwives. They displaced midwives. 14:30: Here is an article from The Sun all about King Louie the XIV and his fetish about childbirth. We’re all about fetishes here but not so much when they change the course of human history to the detriment of women’s health. Just sayin’. 21:00: Here is an article form The Washington Post and one from Oprah Magazine talking about discrepancy in healthcare based off race. 22:00: Check out this ProPublica article, “A Larger Role for Midwives Could Improve Deficient US Care for Mothers and Babies,” if you want to learn more about the important role midwives could play in reducing maternal and infant mortality. 24:30: Here is an article specifically about changes in maternal mortality in the US over time as well as the causes of death. Here is the latest information and how the U.S. Soccer and the president, Carlos Cordeiro, along with some nonsense libertarian think tank publications, seem to think that, actually, everything is fine. It isn’t. 03:45: Here is one of the fun articles Rebekah wrote when she decided to poke the bear’s nest, AKA the MRA’s. Enjoy. She sure did. 05:15: Whelp, here it is. Thanks to Betsy DeVos, most unqualified person to ever lead the Department of Education, all these MRAs are filing civil rights claims that basically say that women’s groups on campus are discriminating against men. This is after they spent years suing women-owned businesses. Here’s the thing. If women sued all the men-owned businesses we wouldn’t even have time to take a shit. 08:45: Listen to our amazing episode with Donna Freitas. And read her book! 11:40: Here is an AMAZING video on Holly Knox who founded the Project on Equal Education Rights (PEER) in the early 1970s. 15:00: Check out Girls for Gender Equity which is an AMAZING organization. They work really hard to empower girls and young women of color. This is really what our future relies on. 25:00: Remember Producer Cait? In this episode Jessy and Rebekah speak with Title IX expert and author of the newly published memoir, Consent: A Memoir of Unwanted Attention. This book is all about Donna’s experience being stalked by her professor/advisor in graduate school – something that seriously impacted her experience, her well-being and her career post-graduation. In this conversation, we delve into her book, her career and how difficult and weighted it is for women to come forward and report abuse when the person abusing her has so much sway over her future. It is so complicated. But even through the heaviness and the complications rest assured we still found time to laugh! 00:30: Friends! We are really excited about our partnership with glow.fm. So much so that we are going to be offering exclusive content to our monthly subscribers! So visit glow.fm/welcometomyvagina to get in at the ground level! 02:30: You can purchase the print and e-version of Consent here. 03:30: We will be releasing an episode all about Title IX in the near future, but for those of your who are unclear as to what it is, here is a small primer from the organization “Know Your IX.” 18:50: Typically when we talk about mandatory reporting we are talking about people who have reason to suspect the abuse or neglect of a child – this applies to educators, athletic coaches, etc. But it also extends to people who suspect abuse or neglect of a dependent adult or an elderly person, or really to any member of a society. 33:30: Here is the best outline we could find on what Obama’s Title IX rules looked like. 34:00: “The Hunting Ground” is a 2015 documentary film about the incidence of sexual assault on campuses in the United States and the overwhelming failure of those institutions to adequately deal with them. Emma Sulkowicz was the Columbia University student who produced a piece of performance art called “Mattress Performance (Carry That Weight)” which involved them carrying a 50lb mattress on campus to express the burden that rape victims are forced to carry with them. 35:30: Here is a link to Michelle Obama’s speech after the Access Hollywood tape was released. In this two year anniversary special, Jessy and Rebekah revisit Vulva Shame, the topic of our very first ever episode! We do a bit of a deeper dive into labiaplasty and go into why (mostly young) women get it and how the patriarchy is pedaling bullshit insecurities in order to control women’s sexual empowerment and enjoyment. We also talk about a bunch of other nonsensical things such as vaginal steaming and shooting ozone up your hoo-ha. Give us a listen and don’t forget to rate and review us! It makes a HUGE difference. 00:34: Want to listen to our original Vulva Shame episode? Find it here! 01:00: GIVE US YOUR MONEY! Head on over to glow.fm/welcometomyvagina and help us keep making this podcast! We will use every dime to bring you educational and hilarious episodes. 04:30: Check out this study done in Britain that says that there is no such thing as a “normal” vagina. 06:30: Here is an abstract of Jessica Malone’s publication, “Women and genital cosmetic surgery” from the journal Women’s Health Issues Paper and another (free!) article that uses Malone’s work as a reference. It is called “In their own words: a qualitative content analysis of women’s and men’s preferences for women’s genitals,” which is, you know, telling. 07:30: As promised, here is the epic Camel Toe video! Make sure to subscribe to see all of Jessy’s awesome videos the second they are released! 15:00: Check out our episode with Diana all about her double mastectomy without reconstruction following her battle with reoccurring breast cancer. 16:00: Here is the FDA release advising people not to use “energy-based devices” in order to perform rejuvenation. You can also read more about it in The Daily Beast, which quoted past president of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, Scot Glasberg, as saying, “without long term studies, it’s hard to know what the risks will be.” 23:00: Here is an article from Vice all about the effects of piping ozone into your vagina and a response to that piece from Dr. Jen Gunter. 26:40: Yes, wormwood contains thujone which is a hallucinogen. You would actually need quite a bit of it to do harm by orally ingesting it but vaginally? Seems risky. 31:15: Here is an article that debunks a lot of myths and also talks a bit about perineoplasty – the surgery that reconstructs the vaginal opening which, according to Dr. Jen, helps with childbirth scars heal poorly. 40:15: The gallbladder stores bile that is produced by the liver! In this episode Jessy and Rebekah talk all about MERKINS! To be honest, there really isn’t all that much information out there on merkins which is not terribly shocking. But! We did find an interesting connection between merkins and Jared Leto! But you’ll have to listen to find out!! 03:00: Donate to us on glow.fm/welcometomyvagina so we can continue to bring you the content you love! Seriously, it really helps. 05:00: Want to know more about crabs (and other STIs)? Check out our most recent episode, STI 101! 07:45: Actually, Rebekah was talking about Gossamer from the Looney Tunes. This information was gathered via Google search terms “big orange guy covered in hair” and voila! 08:00: OMG speaking of The Lorax, did you know that The Lorax was actually banned from at least one school in California because it was seen as an effort by craaaaazy environmentalists to brainwash children against the logging industry. 08:30: Get all caught up on body hair and the devilish razer industry in this old school episode. 10:00: According to this 2011 article from phys.org, multiple organizations such as the EPA and the National Institute of Standards and Technology worked to phase mercury thermometers out due to the environmental impacts as well as the effect of the metal on human health if the thermometer is broken and the mercury is accidentally ingested. 11:13: Here is the article we found that talks about the coining of the term “beaver” to mean vagina. There isn’t too much evidence of the term actually appearing before a little diddy was written about it in 1927. 12:12: You can buy us the domain name merkinworld.com! Seriously, such a steal! 15:30: Check out this article from the website Cinema Blend all about the ridiculous rules about full frontal nudity in film. It is hilarious. And also really, really dumb. 17:20: Just like merkins for real folk, the pubic hair attached to sex dolls really varies in quality depending on how much the doll retails for. In the more higher end dolls, real hair is used to make the experience more authentic. Contact us! Watch us! Love us! Support us at glow! Check out our new Medium page! In this episode, Jessy and Rebekah talk about STIs and the shame/stigma attached to positive diagnoses. We give you the downlow on the history of STI shame, the difference between STIs and STDs (yes, there is one!), we talk about the importance of testing and then we teach you some cool stuff about BUGS! Bug facts are the best facts. But, before we dive in, give us a look on Medium. We just started our account and we need your help if we’re going to successfully take over the world so…give us some claps on Medium. But not THE clap. Just use a condom, ok? Okay. Here we go. 00:30: Make sure to donate to us on glow.fm/welcometomyvagina to show us that you LOVE our work and to help us keep producing content! 01:45: Ugh…women can get donovanosis. It occurs about twice as often in men but still. Us bitches just can’t win. 02:00: His name was Georgios Nikolaou Papanikolaou. You’re welcome. 05:10: Check out this blast from the past interview that we did with Olivia and Maya of the campus group Adolescent Sexual Health Awareness (ASHA). 09:00: Check out For Your TMI’s episode with Tim Mousseau and, really, the entire podcast – it is hosted by are our podfriends and we love them. 10:45: In 2017, Planned Parenthood health centers across the US “provided more than 4.4 million STD tests and treatment, including more than 700,000 HIV tests.” The Trump Administration has been antagonizing Planned Parenthood for the past 3 years, causing the organization to reject federal funding under Title X rather than abide by administration rules that the organization does not refer women for abortion services. 20:20: Here is the article by Elizabeth Brown of Vice all about the history of STI shaming. 26:00: It’s true! There are more then 600 million cases of human papillomavirus (HPV) in the world, with 20 million of those being here in the US. Around 56% of college-age women in new relationships are infected with HPV< according to a study led by Eduardo Franco at McGill University in Montreal. 27:00: We were wrong! As of late 2018, the FDA had expanded the approval of Gardasil 9, the HPV vaccine, to include men and women aged 27-45! Previously it had been recommended only those aged 9-26. Get them vaccines, friends! 33:30: If you were wondering about the whole “my anus is bleeding” thing, check this out. It is HILARIOUS. I AM A BANANA! Contact us! Watch us! Love us! In this episode, Jessy and Rebekah sit down and have a conversation with super-doula Bonnie Silva! We talked about placentas, we talked about cost structure, we talked about Serena Williams. And it was really cool to compare and contrast her feelings about it with what Bree Mahoney said in an earlier episode. It goes to show, there is a doula for everyone but not everyone needs the same doula. And make sure to stick around until the end when Rebekah will tell you a super fun fact about hermit crabs that will improve your life 1000%. 01:20: Seriously, check us out on glow.fm/welcometomyvagina because we really will turn your money into more awesome content AND ALSO glow has been so incredibly supportive with all the garbage censorship that we have faced over the past almost 2 (!!!) years so…yeah. It can also be mixed with wine and ingested. Don’t mind if we do. 07:30: Check out Lindsey Bliss’ Instagram and all the cool stuff she does with Carriage House Birth, the spot where Bonnie started her doula journey! 14:00: Check out all the amazing work done by Jenny Silva who is a doula and traditional birth worker out in California. 15:00: In Germany, the Hebamme, or midwife, will visit the mother at their home for a few weeks after birth to check on the recovery process, help with umbilical chord care, check that the baby is growing at a healthy rate, help with questions surrounding breastfeeding, help the mom with some important post-birth exercises and so much more. 15:45: Read this article by Serena Williams concerning her near-death experience when giving birth to her daughter, Olympia. 22:45: The statement is “One rotten apple spoils the barrel.” You’re welcome. 24:45: Here is a 2017 article from The Guardian covering instances in which Staten Island University Hospital here in NYC performed procedures without the consent of the woman. 39:00 Remember Bree? In this week’s episode, Jessy and Rebekah discuss virginity testing and why it is so incredibly stupid. There are SO MANY STUPID VIRGINITY TESTS and we will tell you about them. But first, don’t forget to support us by leaving rating us and leaving reviews, by telling your friends about your FAVORITE podcast and by donating at glow.fm/welcometomyvagina. 00:40: There are A TON of articles about this debacle, but here is one from Vulture. The podcast where he originally made his comments, Ladies Like Us with Nazanin and Nadia, has been taken down and the hosts have issues an apology. We have feelings about cancel culture (listen to our episode on the topic here) but we also have feelings about how TI’s daughter has been cast into the spotlight here. Not only did she not ask for her dad to behave this way, she also did not consent to him talking about it publicly and she does not deserve to have her sensitive information slapped all over the internet. So in doing your research, please keep all of this in mind. There is an innocent person involved here and she deserves privacy and respect. 06:30: If you don’t already follow us on Instagram, now’s the time to start. Check out our new virginity testing videos! Apparently we are not virgins. And neither is our producer, Cait. Who knew. 08:25: It’s true. The Indonesian army still carries out virginity tests on their female applicants. 12:30: If you want to hear more about how women’s bodies are actually just jungle gyms for all sorts of things – sperm, uterus – listen to our episode all about the word hysteria! 16:50: For those of you needing more information about Helkiah Crooke, have at it. 20:00: Her name was Elizabeth Bathory, she was a Slovakian Countess and also a vicious, vicious murderer. 25:00: Clearly neither of us are scientists because there are actually 7 states of matter! 27:00: Big thanks to JR Thorpe of Bustle for making this episode so fun. 33:30: We really did an entire episode on things not to put in your vagina and we would like to build a time machine and send this episode back to let everyone know that, no, do not put cinnamon up there. In this episode of Welcome To My Vagina, Jessy and Rebekah get into it to get you clitorate! That’s right, we talk all about the clitoris! We also introduce you to Nicole, badass lady behind Vagina Party, an Instagram account that helps you find all kinds of motivation to host your own Vagina Parties at home! But before we get into all that, if you listen to this episode on its release day, November 5th, 2019, DON’T FORGET TO VOTE! And, almost as importantly, go on over to glow.fm/welcometomyvagina to sponsor your favorite podcast! We need your money! 01:00: WE PLAYED VAGINA TABOO AND IT WAS AMAZING! To find Nicole, head on over to her Instagram account, @vaginaparty, and check out her great Etsy Store to find all kinds of (vagina) party games! Seriously, next time we throw a party we are buying some of this stuff. It’s rad. 09:30: Check out our awesome episode with Dr. Laurie Betito where she talks all about orgasming post-menopause. She even wrote a book called The Sex Bible for People Over 50: The Complete Guide to Sexual Love for Mature Couples that you can buy on the internet! 11:00: Because everything is related, we talked about hysteria way back when. Give that episode a listen and catch up on some patriarchal nonsense. 14:30: This was not random, it’s real! Alligators (and some turtles) exhibit temperature-dependent sex determination, which means that the temperature of the developing eggs determines the sex of the offspring. So in American alligators, for example, incubation at 33 degrees centigrade and above yields mostly males, while incubation at 30 degrees Celsius and below yields mostly females! Wow! This, however, is not true for people. Sorry, Galen. 16:00: Couldn’t really find any connection between the clitoris and demonic possessions BUT here is a really interesting article from Bitch Media about demonic possessions in movies and how women are oftentimes used as vessels rather than actual characters. 22:00: Here is a really interesting piece from The Conversation that discusses how society’s (intentional) lack of knowledge about the clitoris is very dangerous. Authors Jane Chalmers and Cat Jones discuss how “women are at risk of sexual dysfunction (lack of desire or arousal etc.) from operations on their urinary and reproductive organs.” 29:00: Head on over to mylola.com and get 30% off your first purchase of tampons, lube, pads and condoms with the code WELCOME30 and to simplehealth.com for your first month of birth control FREE and delivered to your door with discount code WELCOME. 36:15: Check out this 3-d clit! Check out The Mayo Clinic for more thorough information.08:45: Cancers such as uterine, breast, prostate and endometrial are known as hormone-sensitive cancers. 11:15: According to BreastCancer.org, 1 in 8 women develop invasive breast cancer in their lifetime. It was estimated that in 2019 there would be 268,600 new cases of invasive breast cancer in women as well as 62,930 cases of non-invasive breast cancer.13:00: Here is a link to a study published in the Journal of Adolescent Health entitled, “Sexually Transmitted Infection Testing Among Adolescents and Young Adults in the United States.” Basically, the study talks about how people aged 15-25 have high rates of STIs and low rates of screening. The biggest factor according to the researchers is that people have confidentiality concerns regarding their results.28:30: The Go Flat Movement has really been gaining steam in the last few years. Guess what! Welcome To My Vagina has joined GLOW, a really awesome site that allows you to support us via one-time or monthly subscriptions! AND we don’t have to be censored by the ridiculous terms/conditions of other sites (cough, cough PATREON cough, cough) in order to make money to support our work. It’s a win-win. So head on over to glow and become a subscriber! In this episode Jessy and Rebekah talk to dancer/choreographer/all around bad ass Miriam Wasmund about her amazing new collaborative piece Your Faithful Reader coming to Triskelion Arts in Williamsburg, Brooklyn on October 10th, 11th and 12th. You can buy tickets here or support the artists by donating to the project’s GoFundMe page. We are all here to learn, ourselves included, so we just want to create a safe space to listen, speak and, yes, get some things wrong. And then we talk about TINDA! 04:30: Interested in what all the hubbub is about? Head on over to YourFaithfulReader.com to find a link to tickets and to the GoFundMe page!07:30: Here is the article, “White Supremacists Stole My Rabbi Husband’s Identity,” written for the New York Times by Avital Chizhik-Goldschmidt10:15: Here is the article, “’Cancel Culture’ is a Myth to Silence Marginalized Voices,” by David Dennis, Jr. who is a Professor of Journalism at Morehouse College.14:45: Here is a really awesome article from Vice by Rosalind Jana called “Mark My Words: The Subversive History of Women Using Thread as Ink” that talks all about the history of embroidery and how it has been a way for women to tell their stories within societies who otherwise won’t listen to them. What’s cool about this is that it gives some interesting background into why sites like Ravelry are so active in terms of keeping hate out of their online communities.20:20: This Vox article by Aja Romano really sums up everything with Ravelry. If you don’t want to read the whole thing, here is the central thesis: “(Ravelry’s) new policy holds that support for Trump is support for white supremacy, which is not conducive to positive community-building.”21:30: Here is Brother Nature’s account on Twitter. Want to support us? Go to this link to Patreon and show us some love. In this episode Jessy and Rebekah talk to April Davis, founder of The Vagina Blog! She is such a goddamn badass. While we were interviewing her she kept ripping open bags of snacks with her teeth and then passing them off to her kids without missing a beat. THE definition of boss. But first, we discuss a really horrible example of a human male who basically gets everything wrong. Get ready, this is a fun one!! 02:00: Yeah, the uterus does not move. It gets larger to accommodate the growing fetus and pushes the other organs out of their usual places. It also puts some added tension on the surrounding muscles and ligaments but the uterus itself does not wander. Listen to our full episode on hysteria here.06:30: Here is a link to April’s site, The Vagina Blog! Make sure to subscribe to her newsletter so you don’t miss a thing!08:00: When April talks about being “on call” she is talking about her role as a doula or midwife. You can learn more about what being, or hiring, a doula entails by listening to our awesome interview with Bree!12:00: According to The Mayo Clinic, toxic shock syndrome can result from toxins produced by Staphylococcus aureus (staph) bacteria but is can also be caused by toxins produced by group A streptococcus (strep) bacteria. Vaginal strep. No thank you.12:15: A pessary is a “soft, flexible device that is placed in the vagina to help support the bladder, vagina, uterus and/or rectum… it is a non-surgical way to treat pelvic organ prolapse and sometimes incontinence.”13:20: Uterine prolapse is when pelvic floor muscles and ligaments stretch out and weaken and are no longer able to provide enough support for the uterus. As a result, the uterus slops down into, or protrudes from, the vagina.22:30: What April is referring to here is something known as “la cuarentena” and it refers to the 40 days after a woman gives birth when women family members surround the new mother and help her with her newborn but the real focus is on the well-being, safety and health of the new mother.24:00: A postpartum wrap is something you wrap around your waist to help support your body following childbirth. There are a bunch of different options and while they can be helpful for some women, they are not for everyone. For example, they can be problematic if you have a C-section that might be showing signs of infection or women who had pregnancy/delivery complications such as preeclampsia and amnionitis.34:00: Here is the on-going saga of Nestle’s baby formula scandal.37:30: “All the Things You Should Know About Maturation.” Find The Vagina Blog in all these places:WebsiteInstagramTwitterFacebook Contact us! Here is an article about it from Glamour Magazine. It is interesting because it looks at how birth normally occurs in the United States – in the hospital setting – and how the lack of freedom of movement women are afforded doesn’t allow them to have this experience. You can also learn more by watching this documentary called “Orgasmic Birth: The Best-Kept Secret” directed by doula and orgasmic birth activist and educator Debra Pascali-Bonaro.30:45: Here is a link to the episode of Adam Ruins Everything all about the mattress industry!31:30: So apparently it is the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) that regulates all things mattress. Unless the mattresses include some sort of medical device at which time they are overseen by the US Food and Drug Administration.

Well, he did normalize dissections which we guess is pretty important but wouldn’t you think that in the process he would discover that there aren’t septic eggs floating around women’s bodies? Just sayin’13:20: No one is more disappointed about this turn of events than us (and probably Rachel Maines) but here is an article from The Atlantic asserts that there was scant evidence that orgasm was used to treat hysteria and that Maines’ book was not properly peer reviewed before publication. And, if you really want to nerd out, is the scientific paper by Hallie Lieberman and Eric Schatzberg called “A Failure of Academic Quality Control: The Technology of Orgasm.”13:30: Even though now maybe some of what we said isn’t true, you should still listen to Menage a Moi and also our interview with Sarah Quinn.
