Send us a textHello and welcome back to Breakfast with Mom.Today's story is about a woman I stumbled upon in my research about someone else. I found this woman interesting and deserving of her own episode rather than a highlight in someone else's. Here is the back story of how I found Doris. I found a list of names I made 3 years ago. My list contained the names and links to the 11 confirmed murders the Barrow Gang committed. Bonnie and Clyde were credited with killing many more people than they should have. I will tell you the story of a young widow who carried her husband's gun, wore his badge, and changed what it meant to be a Texas Ranger. Her name… was Doris Elizabeth Brown Wheeler.Doris was believed to be the last surviving widow of the infamous bank robbers' victims. Thanks for joining us at our breakfast table.

In recent seasons, she has appeared as an invited soloist with orchestra more than forty times in Europe, Asia, North and South America, as well as numerous chamber music festivals. Her recording of the last 3 Mozart Violin Concerti for Mozart Effect recordings released worldwide in 2017. In addition to a rich career as a soloist and concertmaster, she is a sought-after teacher, clinician, adjudicator and speaker in Canada and abroad. Since founding the AVIVA Virtual Young Artist Program (the first web-based pre-college music program in the world) she has touched lives around the world, teaching thousands of lessons to students on five continents via webcam, piloting projects aimed at accessibility, and training hundreds of teachers and creative entrepreneurs. Mary-Elizabeth is widely recognized as a pioneer in the world of innovation in classical music and technology. She recently made international news from The Hong Kong Economic Times to NPR's Science Friday with her design for low-cost stringed instruments using 3D printers and plastic polymers. I was wild about this conversation. I really appreciated Mary-Elizabeth's wise take on the portfolio career, on keeping all of your various pots and streams managed, on how to cope with the messy middle parts of projects, and on how to keep growing as an artist and a human as you help others! I know you will love hearing from her. Find Mary-Elizabeth at her website, or at www.avivayoungartists.com, or www.printaviolin.com Here are her upcoming programs: LAUNCH! We'll start in mid-June and I'll offer a hybrid program where we cover a different skill and topic each week through multimedia resources. In addition to those seminars, I'll walk each step of the way with every mentee as we cycle through planning, alignment, implementation and assessment through a year of 1:1 coaching. Towards the end of last year in December 2022, the Wall Street Journal reported that more than 300,000 US accountants and auditors had left their jobs in the past two years. On the academic front, they reported that college enrollment for finance and accounting degrees fell by 17%. Now, this mass exodus of finance and accounting professionals is not entirely a new phenomenon. We've heard a lot over the last couple of years about the COVID 19 induced great resignation and of quiet quitting. But where these conversations fall short is addressing what happens next? What happens now when employers can't fill the gap that's been created by the number of people who have left their finance and accounting jobs? And what does this trend or these generational shifts really mean for the industry at large? Special Guests: Dr. Wayne Williams, Elizabeth Brown, and Richard Deosingh.
Elizabeth waited fifty years to write a searing and honest account about her involvement with a Big Bad Wolf, a man who sought to control her emotionally, spiritually, and psychically. Elizabeth shares insights drawn from myths and fairy tales to illustrate how mistrusting her perceptions and inner warnings led to folly. Her book covers it all; from her difficult childhood to a mystical experience, her toxic relationship and subsequent trauma, and her long quest for inner healing. She writes with warmth and compassion about her experiences, occasionally injecting sly humour into the story. She wishes to encourage women who have been through similar experiences so that they, too can grow from survivor to thriver. “What a courageous story of triumph. I could relate to times in my life when I betrayed my own sense of knowing and experienced deep despair from accepting someone else's claims of what I should believe. Elizabeth's book lets us know we are not alone in this experience and provides tools for forgiving ourselves and going on to live a full life.” - Esther Hart, author of Journey to Personal Freedom and Giggle Factor, a Grownup Fairy Tale

GBA Audio Education Series – Effective Reporting Summary: Tiffany Vorhies and Ryan White recently uncovered a treasure trove of valuable content, GBA's outstanding audio-education series. In order to make this more accessible, they turned these into a podcast series. This series was originally available as downloadable audio files, designed for one-on-one listening by field representatives, or as material to spur discussion during brownbag seminars or other informal training sessions. Like other GBA audio education programs, Fundamentals of Field Representation uses dramatization to make its points. The roles are played by professional actors, supplemented by sound effects. In each episode, Tiffany and Ryan play the original audio and follow up with a discussion, including their own personal lessons learned from many years of experience in the industry as both field reps and technical leaders. NARAL Pro-Choice Ohio is a production of NARAL Pro-Choice Ohio. This week, Gabe and Jaime review the hearing on Senate Bill 155, with testimony being offered by NARAL Pro-Choice Ohio and many of our partners. NARAL Pro-Choice Ohio strongly opposes Senate Bill 155. This bill requires medical professionals to give at best medically unproven information and at worst, information that could harm their patients. Abortion “reversal” has not been scientifically researched and its potential side effects and risks have not been determined. Politicians should never mandate that health care providers give their patients inaccurate information about an unproven treatment. In this week's episode, you'll hear: Elizabeth Brown, Women's Public Policy Network Jaime Miracle, NARAL Pro-Choice Ohio Sarah Inskeep, Unite for Reproductive and Gender Equity Mason Hickman Gary Daniels, ACLU of Ohio Rev. Terry Williams, Ohio Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice Lauren Blauvelt-Copelin, Planned Parenthood Advocates of Ohio Sarah Barry Video of the hearing is available at http://ohiochannel.org/video/ohio-senate-health-human-services-and-medicaid-committee-10-22-2019, and audio for this week's episode was sourced from the Ohio Channel under fair use laws. NARAL's The Morning After is a production of NARAL Pro-Choice Ohio. This week, our own Jaime Miracle sat down with Elizabeth Brown, Executive Director of the Women's Public Policy Network. They discussed a provision in the state budget that uses taxpayer funding to operate fake women's health centers. That's right, your tax dollars are funding deceptive, anti-choice health clinics, sometimes known as "Crisis Pregnancy Centers." These groups are infamous for giving misleading and medically-inaccurate information to pregnant patients seeking care. Today's podcast audio is courtesy of Women's Public Policy Network. ***** While you're listening to this week's show, be sure to check out the Events tab on our Facebook page. On October third at the Hilltop Branch of the Columbus Metropolitan Library, NARAL Pro-Choice Ohio is co-hosting a town hall. Together with the Kaleidoscope Youth Center and Columbus DSA, you'll be able to meet state legislators from Franklin County and talk about the full spectrum of reproductive health care, from abortion to better birth outcomes, to childcare, charter schools, and parenting LGBTQIA+ youth. Child care is available at this event.
