Everyone who listens knows and understands that I have OCD. For people who don’t know what that is, it’s obsessive compulsive disorder. It is classed as a mental disorder. You can go listen to Season 1 episodes and I talk about it a lot. I’ve had OCD for a long time, 40+ years. Some days are worse than other. Some days there is no controlling it and those days are not good at all. I’m constantly in turmoil and no matter how I try I cannot get organized.I refer to OCD as my addiction because just like people that are addicted to drugs, alcohol, sex or gambling you constantly fight for control. Since October, my OCD has been Outta of control daily (that was the name of my original podcast).I was unemployed, husband’s hours had been cut and we knew we needed to sell our home.Having family in real estate really helped. Our realtor found us a private investor and we were under contract in no time. That’s when the real fun started. I had to start packing find movers, not to mention find us a new place to live. I also had to keep the podcast going and search for a permanent job. I had just had one dog put down in September and another was showing signs that he wasn’t well. I tried to keep my daily schedule which if you have OCD, a daily routine is important.I was walking/jogging/running every day at least 2.5 miles and I was doing that in40 minutes or less. Then I made my energy drink and started to work for the day. Since moving I have not been able to do any of that, mainly because of my wreck and trying to heal. However, my OCD does not understand that. My OCD wants a routine. We are starting to get one and it gets better every day. It is a constant struggle to keep things at bay. I know we will eventually get everything worked out and that it will take time. OCD is not patient and it doesn’t understand the healing process either. Things are really looking up in the last few weeks and I have obtained a sponsor and we are working on it together to get her more business and me a bigger following which I hope will lead to more sponsors World Pet Travel - We Can Move Your Pets It is not as easy as you may think to move your furry children to a new country or across country. Cases of COVID-19 are on the rise among people experiencing homelessness in LA County. Group shelters are having a particularly hard time controlling the spread. You all met Theron Cosgrave and Principal Ally Rocco in episodes 67, and 77. Since October of 2019, I’ve been following this group of educators in California’s central valley as they work to build one of the most innovative middle school models I’ve heard anything about in recent decades. MAD Tech characterizes some of the most important questions in education for me. Here’s just one example in my mind: What does it mean to intersect great learning design with great design for physical spaces in this age where we've learned so much about how the two can complement one another? In this episode we’re joined by Laura Quiroz, Dean of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment, to hear more about how the instructional model for MadTech has been forced to flex, and more about what they're learning in relation to the core principles of their design that they've been able to carry over in spite of COVID. One of a few bright spots that the school is leveraging and that came up in our conversation is their use of VDI. We didn't get to come back to this in the conversation, though Allyson and Laura messaged me moments after it came up in our conversation to answer my question about the acronym. VDI stands for Virtual Desktop Infrastructure. I bring it up again here to ask that if you or someone you know are an expert with VDI, I'd love to hear from them on social media. Share resources you may have about case studies that have worked using VDI to extend access to software that may not run easily on a chromebook. I'll share those resources in an upcoming episode. The Harvest Moon lights up the sky tonight — the most popular full Moon of the year. In earlier eras, farmers used its light to harvest crops long into the night. And even today it doesn’t hurt. There are several methods for figuring the date of the Harvest Moon. One says it’s the full Moon of September. And this year, the Moon was full on September 1st. The most common rule, though, is that the Harvest Moon is the full Moon closest to the fall equinox. That took place on September 22nd. September’s full Moon came a full three weeks before that. By contrast, October’s full Moon is nine days after the equinox, so it wins the “Harvest Moon” honors. One thing that makes the Harvest Moon so helpful is that, from high northern latitudes, it rises only a few minutes later each night. So for several nights in a row, the Moon is already up and shining by the time evening twilight fades away. That allowed farmers to keep right on working without a break. The Harvest Moon won’t be the only full Moon this month. The average gap between full Moons is 29 and a half days. Since October has 31 days, that leaves enough time to squeeze in another one, on the 31st — a Blue Hunter’s Halloween Moon. As you watch the Harvest Moon tonight, you’ll see a bright companion following it across the sky. That’s Mars, which rises to the lower left of the Moon. The planet looks like a brilliant orange star. More about the Moon and Mars tomorrow. Script by Damond Benningfield Support McDonald Observatory

A mechanical engineer by trade, Darren quickly realized that a W-2 job and 401K would not support the current and retirement lifestyle that he wanted. At the convincing by a friend he attended one of the guru seminars, in Knoxville. He started purchasing single family rentals and doing flips 4 months after attending the seminar. In April of 2017 he was laid off from his corporate job of 12 years. Darren went all in to real estate investing by cashing in his 401K and stock options. In November of 2017 he attended the very first Jake and Gino live event in Knoxville. During the first day of the event, he made the decision to focus on multifamily assets and sell all of his single family rentals. But he also still enjoys flipping houses. Since October of 2018 Darren has become part owner on the GP side in 204 units. Darren started a Multifamily meetup in Johnson City, TN in March of 2019. With Johnson City being such a great market, he saw a need to bring other multifamily investors together there, to leverage the power of partnerships, the market, and capital. He thrives on inspiring and motivating others and living the Go-Giver attitude! Darren live each day with gratitude. How are bitcoin (BTC) miners strategizing for the upcoming halving event in which block reward subsidies will be cut by 50 percent? On this week’s episode of “Bitcoin Halving 2020: Miner Perspectives,” Kristy-Leigh Minehan and Pavel Moravec give an in-depth explanation of what miners are doing to maximize profits and increase operational efficiency. Since October, Minehan explains, bitcoin mining farms have been getting on “the upgrade train” and purchasing state-of-the-art ASIC machines such as the Antminer S17 and S19. Moravec says bitcoin miners have also been looking at creative ways to cut electricity costs by leveraging surplus energy from certain cities’ power grids. What started primarily as a hobby in 2009 has flourished over the years, gained broader adoption and ultimately evolved into a new, professional industry. “We’ve gotten to a point in bitcoin’s history where the government is paying attention and has started to realize bitcoin isn’t going away. Mining is not going away. And it’s in their best interest to start working with ... miners,” Minehan said.Teaming up with local governments and utility providers is another miner strategy both Minehan and Moravec have seen on the increase in recent years. This is why Minehan believes even the geographic distribution of miners, which was discussed in depth in an earlier podcast episode, may further diversify in future to regions such as North America and Europe. To download or stream this episode, you can go to Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Pocketcasts, Google Podcasts, Castbox, Stitcher, RadioPublica or RSS. For early access to future episodes, be sure to click subscribe on these channels. For more information about the bitcoin halving, CoinDesk Research recently published a 30-page explainer report on these events, which features additional commentary from Minehan, Moravec and other mining industry experts. The report is free to download on the CoinDesk website.
Since October 2001, direct-response copywriter, author, and seminar speaker Tom Trush has been writing marketing materials that give entrepreneurs and executives in more than 120 industries an alternative to the typical corporate nonsense that makes most outreach efforts useless. From website content and direct mail to special reports and email campaigns, Tom shows clients how simply changing their perspective on prospects can help position them as an industry authority, deliver higher returns on their marketing investments, and allow them to reach larger audiences with less effort. What you’ll learn about in this episode: How Tom transitioned his interest in sports writing into a career working for a news wire service and then writing for marketing materials How branding and direct-response marketing differ, and why direct-response is a better option for getting your prospect to take action Why differentiating your law firm from your competitors is the key to effective branding and marketing Why it is important to ensure that your website contains words like “you” and “your” to show that you are focused on the prospect and their needs Why trying to force a single message to work for all audiences is ineffective, and why you need to tailor your messaging to the market you’re addressing Why your messaging should be clear and target your prospects’ needs and problems in an individualized way What steps Tom recommends you can take to create an interesting and attention-grabbing headline How to create a call-to-action that explains to your prospect what will happen and provides an incentive Why the language used on your landing page should mirror the language you use in your pay-per-click advertising Why the channel you choose doesn’t determine your marketing success, and why you need to focus on your market and message before you decide what channel to use Resources: Website: www.writewaysolutions.com The “You” Effect by Tom Trush: https://amzn.to/2WyRdKa Escape the Expected by Tom Trush: https://amzn.to/3a4hLH7 The Reluctant Writer’s Guide by Tom Trush: https://amzn.to/393iJCn Facebook: www.facebook.com/tomtrush LinkedIn: www.linkedin.com/in/tomtrush/ LinkedIn: www.linkedin.com/company/write-way-solutions/about/ Twitter: @tomtrush Additional Resources: PILMMA Join Page: www.pilmma.org/marketing-lawyers-law-firm-management/

“Unbreakable" The last 4+ months have been the hardest as a parent that I have ever experienced. I have questioned my ability to be a quality father. I have questioned my ability to have control of "the situation". I have questioned my ability to be there for my son in the way he needed it. I have questioned... if I was even what he needed. Since October 29th Eva and I have had an extremely tough time getting our 7-year old son Camden, to school. In total, he has only been to 3 full days since that time. He has been experiencing some major anxiety when we get to the gates of the school. To the point where his body language physically changes and you can see he is experiencing pain. We have been taking him almost every day, sometimes sitting in the office until 2:30 and he still won’t go to class. At first, for Eva and I, it was mainly frustration. “What is the problem?” “You are making me late for work” “Just go in like all of the other kids” We tried a number of things to get him to go in. Incentives, rewards, therapists, consequences, threats... you name it we tried it. Yesterday, I got a call from the school nurse explaining that it might be a good idea to get him to be homeschooled for the rest of the year. After the months of frustration we strongly considered it, we spoke with the therapist last night and she said, “let’s give it another 2 weeks”. So today’s goal was to get him into the classroom for 15 minutes. I know that doesn’t sound like much, but when you look into his eyes and see the pain, fear, and disappointment in them, you’d probably change your mind. To him, this is a REAL fear. It is the equivalent to me being told I have to go skydiving, it is just happening at a lower scale for him. So to see him get to school and KNOW he has to face something that he is afraid of doing is an accomplishment in itself. When we walked in today, we sat down and the counselor walked in and said, “Camden, it's time to go”. He got up and walked with her to class. 17 minutes later, he came back with papers, Valentine’s cards, and a huge smile on his face and said, “I did it” and gave me a fist bump. As soon as we stepped outside he yelled, “YEAH!, I’m Unbreakable!” When we got in the car he asked to listen to the song “Unbreakable" by Anti-Flag: http://bit.ly/UnBreakable-AF So we put it on and turned it up to 11. He wanted to listen to this song because this is how he felt in that moment. Unbreakable. For obvious reasons, this is now currently my favorite song. I have never been so proud of him. It has nothing to do with him going to school for 15 minutes. It has everything to do with him facing his fears, accepting a challenge, and coming out on top. Since October 2019, Chile has been crippled by rolling strikes across multiple sectors of the economy, and generalised political rebellion in the streets. The cause of these uprisings at one point, was the raising in prices of fares on the Santiago subway, but has since channelled people’s general anger and frustration at political corruption and enduring poverty in that country. Juliana Rivas, is a Latin American Feminist, she studied sociology in Chile. Worked in different public institutions in Chile in areas related to socio-urban issues. She participates in a group called Loca-Latin Americana Berlin working to support the Chilean rebellion.

CEO of Ivoclar Vivadent, Diego Gabathuler, shares his perspective on what it means to lead a customer-centric business. Diego and show host, Julia, discuss why he’s become such an ardent supporter of customer experience, how he’s moving the business from CX strategy to action and what CX professionals need to do to win over senior business leaders. If you’d like to know what drives an authentically customer-centric mindset at the highest levels of business leadership, then this episode is for you. Insights from a senior business leader Diego Gabathuler has been the CEO of the dental company Ivoclar Vivadent AG, headquartered in Schaan, Liechtenstein, since 1 July 2019. The Swiss native initially joined the company as a member of the Global Product Management in 2002. He then went on to work for Logitech and several other companies until he rejoined Ivoclar Vivadent in Schaan as Senior Director Europe West & South, Near & Middle East and Africa in 2016. Since October 2017, he has been a member of the Corporate Management. Ivoclar Vivadent is one of the world's leading manufacturers of innovative material systems for high-quality dental applications. The company has wholly owned subsidiaries in 29 countries, and it employs about 3,500 people worldwide. Diego views customer experience as a key strategic imperative for the success of any business today...and one that should be led by the CEO. It's in my title. For me CEO means Customer Experience Officer. - Diego Gabathuler CX as a differentiator Diego has taken on customer experience as one of his core strategic imperatives. He sees a customer marketplace that is increasingly complex, both for companies and for consumers. With more technology and a faster flow of information, products can also quickly become commoditized. Amid this landscape, customer experience becomes one of the few ways that businesses can stand out. These changes haven't happened overnight, and Diego highlights that as one of the challenges. Without a "big bang" push towards customer experience, it means that many companies have been too slow to respond. Diego highlights that he sees customer experience and brand as one in the same. A brand, from his perspective, is the sum of the experiences provided by that brand. That's a progressive view on the concept of branding, and one that many CX professionals would like to be more widely used within the marketing community. Customer-centric thinking requires understanding the customer Early in our interview Diego pointed out the importance of understanding customers and integrating their perspectives into the customer journey, product innovation, and business planning. This is the foundation of customer-centric strategy. The dental industry has been largely product-led for many years, but Diego has pushed his team to actually listen to the customer, rather than relying soley on expert insights, which is often the default in his sector. That said, not all voice of customer (VOC) insights are created equal. Diego spoke about the need to unify customer experience data from 3 different sources in order to provide a robust picture of customer needs: Field research, observation and big data. Asking customers what they want might sound like the best approach, but CX teams need to pair this with user data to see what customers are actually doing. For example, the Ivoclar Vivadent team conducted research to find out where customers wanted to get their product information. Customers responded that they referenced print materials (e.g. catalogs, and brochures) but user data suggested that most were actually getting their information online. Diego chalks this up to people reflecting on their past experiences and longstanding habits, rather than recent behavior. Had the team only listened to customer feedback without pairing this with behavior observations, they might have made the wrong decisions about which touchpoints to focus on. ...

Healing our Finances ~ Enjoy this replay of a top pick from listeners! Since October 2018, the Lord has been speaking to me about the coming Financial Shift, meaning an increase of finances. We have experienced it in our church, and I have experienced it personally. What is interesting about this increase is it has not manifested in a single way, but through a variety of different ways. Let me share one example of a creative way God showed us to bring in income. We had sold our house and downsized to a smaller one. We realized in this move, much of our furniture would not fit. God reminded me of a friend who does estate sales and I contacted her. We were able to sell all of our furniture and bring in additional income for our move. I have also realized that God wants us to be healed from our unhealthy relationship with finances in order for us to be good stewards of this influx of funds. A few weeks ago, I taught about Financial Healing. You can listen to the class on the church website by clicking the link: http://thegatheringwithjesus.sermon.net/main/Archive-2019/21338050 In this blog, I am sharing a few of the highlights from the class. Around the world there continues to be a worldwide cry for help in the Parkinson’s community. Since October 2018, there has been a global shortage of SINEMET®®®. This is the brand name version of levodopa-carbidopa, the gold-standard drug, used to treat Parkinson’s disease, which Merck packages and sells. It started with a supply shortage, which lead to a third-party manufacturer change. Anytime you change production of pharmaceuticals, the manufacturer has to re-ratify the entire production cycle. Merck now says SINEMET®IR®, Instant Release, will not be available until July 2020 and production has ceased altogether on the continuous release versions including SINEMET®CR 100/25 and 200/50. In this episode of the podcast, I talk to folks around the world who were taking SINEMET®to great effect only for it to be unavailable one day and replaced by a less effective, generic version of the drug. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration first approved SINEMET® in 1975. Nothing in the last 44-years comes as close to normalizing the lives of people with Parkinson’s as it does. David Ashford Jones was diagnosed with Parkinson’s at 40 years of age after more than a decade in marketing and sales for pharmaceutical companies. He says people with Parkinson’s easily notice the difference between the brand name version of SINEMET® and the generic. The difference between SINEMET® and the generic versions is not in the active ingredients, but in the absorption rate of the levodopa into the body in order to have an active effect on Parkinson’s symptoms. He offers this advice to other people with Parkinson’s, “If you can get a consistent version (of a generic), that minimizes the potential for that swapping of levels.” The goal for maximum effectiveness of any form of levodopa-carbidopa is to keep the gaps between peaks and valleys of levodopa in your body to a minimum. Merck has stated that there is not a shortage of levodopa-carbidopa in Canada, because 90% of the people with Parkinson’s are on generic versions. Worldwide, others have estimated 80% of people are on a generic, but Merck did not address the global supply even when requested. The reality is 10-20% of the people with Parkinson is who are taking SINEMET® amounts to somewhere between 700,000 and two million people worldwide. After Merck ceased production, it appears the generic drug suppliers could not ramp up production to meet the expanded hole in the market. Merck agreed to offer written responses to some of the questions from When Life Gives You Parkinson’s, WLGYP: Why is there a shortage [of SINEMET®]? Why couldn’t it be anticipated? MERCK: (...) It is important to note that there are no current shortages of either formulations of carbidopa-levodopa in Canada as various generic manufacturers have made them available to Canadian patients. Currently, approximately 90% of the market of levodopa-carbidopa in Canada is supplied by generic formulations. (Source: IQVIA: CompuScript June DM, 2019) Based on current demand, depletion of the current inventory of SINEMET®CR 100/25 MG is expected in September 2019. SINEMET®CR 200/50 MG is no longer available. Despite the availability of generic alternatives in Canada, Merck understands that the situation may be disruptive for patients and is working to identify solutions to ensure a more stable source of supply is available for the SINEMET®IR® formulation. Based on our current information, we are hopeful to be able to rely on a more stable source of supply for the SINEMET®(IR formulation). However, for the time being, the supply disruption for SINEMET®(IR formulation) will continue until mid-2020 in the Canadian market. Merck is committed to continue to provide regular updates on the situation to Health Canada and Parkinson’s Canada. For the most up to date information regarding SINEMET®supply availability Canadian patients can consult www.drugshortagescanada.ca. WLGYP:What are the differences differences between SINEMET® and generic forms MERCK: As defined by Health Authorities, a generic drug is a copy of a brand name drug. The generic drug is pharmaceutically equivalent to the brand name drug: it contains the identical medicinal ingredients, in the same amounts and in a similar dosage form. Generic medications may have different non-medicinal ingredients than the brand name drug, but the company must show that these do not affect the safety, efficacy, or quality of the drug compared to the brand name drug.[i] Currently, approximately 90% of the market of levodopa-carbidopa in Canada is supplied by generic formulations. (Source: IQVIA: CompuScript June DM, 2019) WLGYP: What is the timeline for SINEMET®IR to be available in Canada, U.S., U.K, and around the world? MERCK: We expect that the supply disruption for SINEMET®IR will continue until mid-2020 in the Canadian market. Merck Canada Inc. remains committed to finding solutions to provide this product to Canadian patients as quickly as possible. The most up to date information regarding SINEMET®supply availability is regularly updated on www.drugshortagescanada.ca. It is important to note that currently, approximately 90% of the market of levodopa-carbidopa in Canada is supplied by generic formulations. (Source: IQVIA: CompuScript June DM, 2019) We have been in contact with Parkinson Canada and Health Canada and continue to provide them with frequent updates on the situation as additional information becomes available. Wheelbarrow Profits Podcast: Multifamily Real Estate Investment
Welcome to the Movers and Shakers podcast. This weeks guest is Darren Light. A mechanical engineer by trade, Darren quickly realized that his W-2 job and 401K would not support the current and retirement lifestyle that he wanted. After being convinced by a friend he attended one of the guru seminars, locally in Knoxville. Darren started purchasing single family rentals and doing flips 4 months after attending the seminar. In April of 2017 he was laid off from his corporate job of 12 years. At that moment Darren went all in to real estate investing by cashing in his 401K and stock options. In November of 2017 he attended the very first Jake and Gino live event in Knoxville. During the first day of the event he made the decision to focus on multifamily assets and sell all of his single family rentals. Darren also still enjoy flipping houses. To date Darren has done 13 flips in 2 years. His goal for flips in 2019 was 12. He is currently at 6 in various stages. Since October of 2018 Darren has become part owner on the GP side in 103 doors. Along with a partner, he currently pursuing over another 200 doors as we speak. Darren started a Multifamily meetup in Johnson City, TN in March of this year. With Johnson City being such a great market, he saw a need to bring other multifamily investors together there, to leverage the power of partnerships, the market, and capital. He thrive on inspiring and motivating others and living the Go-Giver attitude! Darren lives each day with gratitude.

Jules Pieri is Co-Founder and CEO of The Grommet – a marketplace for unique and innovative ideas to launch. She helps entrepreneurs bypass the corporate chain by reshaping how consumer products get discovered, shared, and bought. Her new book is “How We Make Stuff Now: Turn Ideas into Products That Build Successful Businesses.” Jules loved fine arts in school. She went to the University of Michigan and subsequently put herself on an “art diet” so she could focus her studies in other areas. She eventually took a sculpture class and saw some unique tools that were created by students. She had a light bulb moment-wanting to know how to get into the space of creating new products. Jules started her career as an industrial designer for technology companies and later moved into senior executive roles for large brands, such as Keds, Stride Rite, and Playskool. When Jules worked at Playskool she saw a large concentration of power among the big brands and noticed innovation slipping away as big retailers like Walmart, Kmart, Target and Toys-R-Us were unwilling to buy new/fresh products. They would take on new products but only ones with slight variations or products with a little new twist. The Grommet was later formed as a response – Jules saw a new route for getting products made and she jumped on the idea. Since October 20th, 2018 The Grommet has launched one new product a day and given small brands the chance to grow among the big competitors. In this episode of Trend Following Radio: Inventing Patents & Trademarks Innovation Amazon and counterfeit products New product launches
Episode 1: Join Heracane Anne & Big Steve for the first show of Wolf Pack Radio. We will be testing the sound & music. This is our first episode and we are super excited. On tonights show we will be discussing QANON. So many people ask us, "Who is Q"? It is not a conspiracy, it is not a guy hiding behind a keyboard... it is so much more. Q or Q anon is a high level government source who is clearly in President Trumps inner circle. Since October of 2017 Q has been posting on the back channels of the internet regarding the fight to take down the "deep state" corruption or as President Trump has stated "draining the swamp." Q has communicated that he/they aren't a single person, but are rather a group of under 10 who all post anonymously as Q or Q+. The detailing of what they are exposing and bringing down is so shocking that main stream media refers to it as the Q Anon conspiracy theory. Not surprisingly the main stream media has been directly implicated by Q as being complicit with the entire deep state's web of corruption. Q's evidence is quite compelling on this matter. Tonights show features 2 you tube videos by the Praying Medic, "Q Anon for Beginners Part 1 and Part 2." From our perspective & many others the Q Anon phenomenon is not a conspiracy theory, but a credible behind the scenes detailing of how the process of draining the swamp of corruption is actually progressing. Beyond what has already taken place that very few seem to be aware of, this exposure of evil is designed to prepare us for the even more shocking revelations that are to come. So buckle up... All aboard! The train is loading now... Since October 2017, America experienced three of the deadliest mass shootings in modern history. This epidemic coincides with a frightening resurgence of white nationalism. Sometimes the two trends overlap. But why here? Both phenomena can be explained by a common historical thread—to unravel it Abby Martin sits down with indigenous scholar Roxanne Dunbar-Ortiz to discuss her latest book “Loaded: A Disarming History of the Second Amendment”. Since October 17th, Cannabis producers across the country have been flat out, trying to meet the overwhelming demand that legalization has brought on. Many cannabis stores have experienced closures because of a lack of product. It means around the clock production and packaging for many companies in Atlantic Canada. It also means retailers are scrambling to find product. In this episode of Blunt Talk, I find out about initial sales and difficulties sourcing product with the director of Cannabis Operations in Prince Edward Island. Gardening expert Jenny Scott joins us for part two of our conversation on how to grow cannabis properly. This week we get harvesting tips. But first, we talk production schedules and border crossings with the Co-Founder and Chief Operating Officer of Breathing Green Solutions, when Joe Sanford joins the conversation.

Australian Foreign Minister Marise Payne has announced sanctions on five military generals accused of leading last year's violent crackdown on the country's Rohingya people. The move follows the release of an independent UN Fact-Finding Mission report, which condemned the Myanmar military for killing thousands of Rohingya civilians and perpetrating forced disappearances, mass gang rape and the burning of hundreds of villages. This week on The Brief, Edwina Landale hears from former Australian Ambassador to Myanmar Trevor Wilson about why neither the international community nor Aung San Suu Kyi have been able to end the violence. Trevor Wilson retired in August 2003 after more than 36 years as a member of the Australian foreign service, and after serving as Australian Ambassador to Myanmar (2000-03). Since October 2003 he has been a Visiting Fellow on Myanmar/Burma at the Department of Political & Social Change, School of International, Political & Strategic Studies, Australian National University. He is currently a member of the advisory panel for the ANU Myanmar Research Centre. Edwina Landale is the presenter of The Brief. She is a student of Politics, Philosophy, and Economics at the ANU. Since October is upon us, we wanted to get on in a stylish fashion by flashing back to the beginning of Sir Tom Hanks’ career and have some fun by riffing on this classically naff movie about tabletop in the heart of the Satanic Panic. Welcome to a new feature for Fall - a bonus series in addition to regular episodes, a jump backward in cooking and cultural history. Since October, November, and December all contain holidays celebrated with food, I will be digging into newspaper archives and giving you recipes from early- to mid-20th century newspapers every week, or in some cases, family recipes where newspaper coverage falls short. This month, we'll be enjoying all kinds of recipes that celebrate Halloween, or Samhain. All of these recipes come from the October 26, 1913 issue of The Washington Herald, and all are different kinds of homemade candies. Some are familiar, some are difficult, and some have potentially crippling typos, but all show the difference that a century can make in popular tastes. I hope you enjoy the series. Since October, we’ve been building to an inevitable and thrilling end to college hockey season. Here it comes, with the NCAA Regionals getting underway on Friday and taking us through the weekend. It’s a wide-open field, even compared to other years, and with so many teams capable of making a run it’s really anyone’s game at this point. Chris Lynch of Insidehockey.com joins the show to break down last week’s conference finals, this year’s bracket, and whether one of the Hockey East teams in the northeast region will advance. Our market conditions are ripe for those looking to move into a new home. You can sell quickly and profitably, and buy while interest rates are low.If you’ve been thinking about selling your home, three recent developments make this an ideal time to do so. 1. Mortgage rates have stabilized. They were at 3.4% last July, then shot up to 4.3% right after the election in November. Since then, the rates have stabilized and are still very low (historically speaking).2. Job numbers are up. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that 225,000 new jobs were created in February. Over the past 12 months, we’ve seen 2.3 million jobs created. Business is doing well, consumer confidence is high, and it all bodes well for the future of the housing market. It’s a great time to buy and to sell. 3. Housing inventory is extremely low. February saw an almost 18% drop in the number of homes for sale. Since October 2008, we have consistently seen a steady decline in inventory. In fact, we’ve had 100 consecutive months of decreased inventory. What does all this mean for you? Well if you’re thinking about selling, right now is the perfect time. You can sell very quickly in this market. Last year, homes were taking an average of 43 days to sell. While that’s still a great number, homes are selling in an average of just 30 days right now. With such low inventory, you can expect to get a great price for your home sale. It’s also a good time to buy with interest rates staying low and steady. This market is a win-win situation if you’re looking to make a move. If you or somebody you know is interested in buying or selling soon and taking advantage of this market, give us a call or send us an email. We look forward to hearing from you.

MAJOR ALERT!! Up to 300,000 Nato troops have been put on alert amid rising tensions between Russia and the Baltic states. Since October 2016, it was reported that NATO stationed up to 4,000 troops on the Russian border â?? the biggest military build-up since the Cold War. Jens Stoltenberg, who is the Secretary General of NATO, said the allied nations are putting hundreds of thousands of troops in a state of high alert in an effort to deter a mounting threat from Moscow. Originally, NATOâ??s aim was to find a way to mobilize the troops within two months, instead of the typical time of around six months. According to Mr. Stoltenberg: â??We have seen a more assertive Russia implementing a substantial military build-up over many years â?? tripling defense spending since 2000 in real terms; developing new military capabilities; exercising their forces and using military force against neighbors.â?? While NATO continues to push the Russian cyberattack propaganda, along with the Clinton administration â?? we know exactly the Bigger Agenda ahead. Because itâ??s no surprise how all of this is playing out around the same time as Election Dayâ?¦ not to mention Army Chief of Staff General Mark Milleyâ??s cryptic statement at the Association of the United States Armyâ??s annual meeting back in October 2016, where he said that future warfare with a near-peer adversary will "be highly lethal, unlike anything our Army has experienced at least since World War II." As well as Vladimir Zhirinovsky, an ally of Vladimir Putin, who reportedly made this cryptic remark: â??Americans voting for a president on November 8 must realize that they are voting for peace on planet earth if they vote for Trump. But if they vote for Hillary it's war. It will be a short movie. There will be Hiroshimas and Nagasakis everywhere.â?? Even though the â??winnerâ?? of the American â??electionsâ?? has already been pre-decided, well before the â??electionsâ?? even beganâ?¦ And letâ??s not forget about the massive energy blackout in Murmansk, Russia â?? affecting up to more than 300,000 people. Along with the 300,000 NATO troops, all coinciding with the â??electionsâ?? in America: one has to wonder is this all REALLY a coincidence?!?! THE TRUTH REVEALED!!! PAY ATTENTION TO THE WORLD AROUND YOU! AND AS ALWAYS, REMEMBER TO SEEK YAHUAH AND HIS TRUE SON YAHUSHA â?? Since October was Cyber Security Awareness month, we decided to look at what’s holding back our efforts to make security—to coin a phrase—“great again”. In this episode of the Inside Out Security Show panel – Cindy Ng, Kilian Englert, Kris Keyser, and Mike Buckbee – shared their thoughts on insider threats as discussed on a recent Charlie Rose show, the brilliant but evil use of steganography (the practice of concealing a file, message, image, or video within another file, message, image, or video), and the dark market for malware hidden in underground forums. For a taste of the podcast, here are a few data security ideas and quotes from our panelists. Insider Threat. According to Keyser, an insider attack might not necessarily be the fault of employees. It could be that a hacker obtained their credentials—by guessing or pass-the-hash-- and the attack was executed under their name. So don’t make an employee the ‘fall guy’ for what was really an outsider. Blame IT instead. Kidding! Steganography. On hackers hiding credit card information on images, Keyser says, “It’s reminiscent of the skimmer attack, you might find on an ATM or a card reader at shop you go to, but it’s applying that same concept to data, the nonphysical world.” Like the rest of us, Englert was fascinated by the use of steganography. Englert says, “It’s always been kind of an interesting concept that I played with just for fun, but to see this used as an exfilitration method, it’s terrifying and it’s also brilliant. Having the website serve up the information you’re stealing, publicly, hidden in image files, it’s such a great way to get data out.” What will hackers think up next? Underground Forums. Englert thinks these underground sites are fulfilling a market need. He says, “Why not be enterprising? Makes sense from a business perspective. It’s not moral, but a way to make money.” Hackers are certainly displaying an entrepreneurial spirit. Thinking Like a Hacker With DDos attacks on the rise – up 125% in 2016-- Buckbee shares what he learned from Marek Majkowski’s presentation, “Are DDoS attacks a threat to the decentralized internet?” A united Internet makes us strong, and with a divided one we may fall. A Tool for Sysadmins Mosh (mobile shell) is a remote terminal application that supports intermittent connectivity, allows roaming, and speculatively and safely echoes user keystrokes for better interactive response over high-latency paths.

There is a refugee crisis in the USA. Since October over 50,000 children and tens of thousands of families have streamed across the southern border of the United States. What is compelling this surge in migration, particularly of unaccompanied minors? Who are these children and families? And what is their journey like? I speak with Gary Shaye of Save the Children, which is running a relief operation in Texas for children and families that have made it across the border. He answers these questions and more.
Hey there! I'm Kelly Sutton. We are so glad you’re here for another Inside Music Row! We've got lots coming up on today’s show, so let’s get started! Willie Nelson will release new material with Sony and Legacy Recordings next week. “Band of Brothers” features 14 performances, plus nine brand-new songs. Since October’s release of his last project “To All The Girls…”, which was Willie’s first top ten album in more than thirty years, fans have been anxious for more. “Band of Brothers” is Willie’s first album of mostly new original material in almost twenty years. Willie says “it’s good to be writing again,” and I’m sure his fans will agree. Alan Jackson might be somewhat used to being at the top of the country charts, but his latest gospel album “Precious Memories Volume Two” was named Top Christian Album at the Billboard Music Awards. This album was a follow up to his 2006 almost double platinum “Precious Memories” project, and is a collection of traditional hymns that Alan just wasn’t able to fit on the first album. More than a year after its release, the new volume remains in the Top 50 on Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart. Average Joe’s Entertainment is now more than just a record label. The premiere issue of “The Average Joes” full color comic book will hit stores July first. The comic book features Colt Ford and his friends as superheroes selflessly saving the world and fighting crime in the name of justice. Look for the new material available at Wal-Mart in Colt’s new album “Thanks For Listening” as well as other select outlets and live shows. Lee Ann Womack has waited almost seven years to release new music, but that wait is almost over! “The Way I’m Livin’” will arrive in stores September 23rd as her first release on Sugar Hill Records. The high impact title track was just released to radio last week. Now it's time to go Inside The Song. Lee Anna Culp’s latest single is “Big Love,” which she came up with almost by accident. Here is Lee Anna talking about that song, which asks some tough questions.
Since October, authorities have captured more than 46,000 unaccompanied children, most of them from Central America, on the U.S. side of the border. Adam talks with WOLA's Geoff Thale, Maureen Meyer, and Marc Hanson about causes and implications.

This week we are live from the New Jersey shore at a conference organized to help explore issues and find answers following Super Storm Sandy. The conference is presented by the Fungal Research Group Foundation-the same group responsible for the Bioaerosols, Fungi, Bacteria, Mycotoxins in Indoor Environments and Human Health conferences since the early 90s. Joining us this week will be three people attending the conference and more importantly working directly with those affected by Sandy. Tom Peter, CIH is VP of Insurance Restoration Specialists of Monroe, NJ. Since October he has been working in many of the Jersey Shore schools, commercial buildings, municipal buildings, residences and schools in the NY-NJ area. Mike McGuinnis, CIH, CIAQP is founder of RK Environmental of Phillipsburg, NJ. Mike is also busy helping business owners, contractors and residents of the NY-NJ Shore area consulting on mold and other indoor environmental contamination issues. Pete Consigli is a friend of the show, frequent contributor and restoration industry watchdog. We will be discussing the presentations at the conference and updating listeners on the issues locals are facing almost six months after Sandy pounded this area. LEARN MORE this week on IAQ Radio.
Episode 68: Today's Social Work Podcast, The Training and Education of Military Social Workers, is the first of a two-part series. Part II, is a discussion of Cultural considerations in military social work. I'm doing this two part series because whether you agree or disagree with America n's involvement in what has now become the longest continuous combat engagement in its 235 year history, "There is an urgent need to understand and engage with the military service members, veterans, their families, and their communities in effective [social work] practices" (CSWE, 2010, p. 2). I hear some of you right now; I'm reading your thoughts: you don't work for the Veterans Administration; you're not contracted by the military to provide services; you don't wear the uniform and serve in the armed forces. And yet, according to my guest, Anthony Hassan, you could still be a military social worker. According to a 2011 Rand report, "Since October 2001, approximately 2 million U.S. troops have deployed as part of Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF) and Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF). Many of these previously deployed individuals have since left the military or retired, and most previously deployed National Guard and reservists have returned to their home communities" (p. iii). These "community dwelling veterans" seek services where they live - in their communities. So, for all of you who work in communities - and that's everyone - chances are you're providing services to veterans and their families. And that's the main focus of today's military social work. And yet, most of us, unless we work directly with the military, have no idea what might be required for effective practice with this population. By all accounts, the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq have exacted a significant toll on community dwelling veterans and their families. In response to this need, in 2010, the Council on Social Work Education published guidelines for educational competencies for advanced social work practice in military social work. The authors of these guidelines explained, "with no end in sight and the ultimate results of these wars uncertain, we are now challenged with both a military that is exhibiting the stress-related consequences of these long and multiple combat deployments and a rapidly growing veteran population in need of a wide range of combat-related physical and mental health care services. Every community in the United States has been affected, and service delivery systems are trying to respond. Military social work, as a field of practice and research, is critical to our relevance as social workers, to the advancement of new career options, and in our leadership among the helping professions. This does not mean that we endorse war or aggression, but rather that we extend meaningful help to those who have been affected. This is a moment in history when we can reassert our central influence as a pivotal healing profession in the midst of wartime and in the aftermath by promoting a vigorous social work research agenda and appropriate training to effectively prepare military social workers" (CSWE, 2010, p. 2). In order to better understand both the training and education of military social workers, I spoke with a man who is on the forefront of the current reconceptualization of military social work. My guest, Anthony Hassan, is a retired Air Force officer with 25 years of experience in military social work. He served during Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2004 on the first-ever Air Force combat stress control and prevention team embedded with an Army unit. He led the largest military substance abuse and family advocacy programs in the Pacific which were recognized as benchmark programs and training sites for all other Pacific bases. He chaired the committee responsible for creating the Council on Social Work Education's model for advanced social work practice in military social work (CSWE, 2010) which I quoted a few minutes ago. And, if those bona fides aren't enough, he is currently the director of the Center for Innovation and Research on Veterans and Military Families at the University of Southern California's School of Social Work. In today's Social Work Podcast, Anthony and I talked about the how the definition of military social work has changed over time, how educators and practitioners can use the CSWE guidelines, opportunities for advanced training at the master's and doctoral level in military social work at USC's school of social work, and online certificate programs for non-USC students. We talked about the use of a "virtual patient" as part of the training program. We talked about the central role that the profession of social work could and should play addressing the issues faced by active duty military, community dwelling veterans, and their families. We talked about the kinds of jobs that military social workers do. We ended our conversation with some resources for listeners wanting to know more. A couple of notes about this interview. Anthony and I spoke for an hour and a half. Our conversation about education and training actually happened in the second half of our interview. Because I'm presenting it as "Part I" there are a couple of times when he makes reference to information that we discussed in the beginning of the conversation... which is now Part II. I hope that's not too confusing. Another thing that stands out about this interview is that, for the first time, I invited listeners of the social work podcast who are fans on the social work podcast Facebook page, to submit questions for Anthony. The response was fantastic. There were over 20 questions, most of which I couldn't ask. But those that were suggested on Facebook I identified as such. So, thank you to everyone who posted questions - you'll recognize your contribution to this interview. And I'll definitely be asking folks to submit questions for future podcasts. Finally, as with all my remote interviews, this one was done using Skype. Anthony was in Los Angeles and I was 3,000 miles away in Philadelphia. And now, without further ado, on to episode 68 of the Social Work Podcast, The Training and Education of Military Social Workers: An Interview with Dr. Anthony Hassan.

The Digital Oblivion. /// Hans-Dieter Huber argued that the particular »presence« of artworks was due to their materiality. This presence is in turn the basis for aesthetic experience. As regards the relation of the original and its documentation, we must make a distinction between analogue and digital works. He listed various well-known strategies for the conservation of digital artworks – storage, emulation, migration, re-interpretation. Possibly, he went on, improved forms of description should replace the physical maintenance of the work, just as music is preserved through notation. This would have to be done in collaboration with the artist. Since the authenticity of the experience of the artwork depends on conditions prevailing at creation, and since these are unrepeatable, there in any case is no authenticity. Since October 1999 Hans Dieter Huber (1953) is professor for contemporary art history, aesthetics and art theory at the State Academy of Fine Arts Stuttgart and Head of the Study Program »Conservation of New Media and Digital Information« at the State Academy of Fine Arts Stuttgart since 2006.
Why me? This is usually the question women ask when they hear the doctor tell them that they have breast cancer as well as when they find themselves victims of domestic violence. Both issues can knock the wind out of you and have you giving up on life altogether. Since October is both Breast Cancer Awareness & Domestic Violence Month, Real Talk With Tanya White will discuss both of these sensitive issues. Breast cancer survivors Alfreida Edelen, author of “Confronting Breast Cancer, A Believer's Journey" and Nina Stum, founder and director of Women of Vision and Purpose will discuss their breast cancer battles. Also, Cherilyn Vonn will co-host and discuss her experience with domestic violence. We want to hear your calls and comments about these two issues. Call 347-215-6446 or join us in chat via www.blogtalkradio.com/realtalkwithtanyawhite to share your story. Two luck callers will win Alfreida Edelen’s book “Confronting Breast Cancer, A Believer's Journey".
