The Ad Hoc committee looking into national security concerns says it has now taken a decision to formally write to President Cyril Ramaphosa. Committee chairperson Soviet Lekganyane says Parliament's legal team has now been tasked with drafting a correspondence and consolidating questions from committee members. The committee is probing allegations of criminal infiltration, corruption and political interference in the criminal justice system. The allegations were made by KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Lt-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi during a media briefing in July last year. Lekganyane elaborates....

In today's Daily Fix:Developer AdHoc Studio has released a statement addressing the censorship controversy surrounding the Switch 2 port of Dispatch. AdHoc is taking responsibility for the uproar, saying that their game failed to meet certain Nintendo guidelines, and that it was their responsibility to better convey the message that the Switch 2 port was altered from the PS5 and Steam versions. AdHoc are working with Nintendo to address the issue, but that it could take weeks before changes are made to the game, if any. In other news, Nioh 3 might be making its way to the Switch 2 and Xbox Series consoles, marking the first time the franchise ended up on a non-Sony console. A new trailer for the game specifies that it's a PS5 console exclusive for six months, however no official word on if other ports are coming. And finally, a video game music remix won a Grammy last night over EGOT-holder Cynthia Erivo. Super Mario Praise Break from The 8-Bit Big Band took home the award for Bestr Arrangement, Instrumental and Vocals. Another gaming win came from composer Austin Wintory, who won for the soundtrack to Sword of the Sea.

We dive VERY deep into the entire situation, discuss the censorship in great detail, reveal the exact timeline of how things played out, and share multiple tidbits you haven't heard anywhere else. We also try to figure out why in the world Nintendo, and how it causes some serious concerns for fans of the company moving forward.

In today's Daily Fix:Nintendo has responded to the censorship controversy surrounding the Switch port of AdHoc's Dispatch. The Switch version has its nudity and sexual content censored, while the PS5 and Steam versions allow you to toggle the censorship. According to Nintendo, while all games on Nintendo platforms need to meet certain guidelines, they don't dictate to the developers how changes need to be made. In other news, Amazon's God of War series has cast Mandy Patinkin as Odin. Patinkin is probably best known as Inigo Montoya from the 80s classic, The Princess Bride, but has also done acclaimed work on shows such as Homeland, and Criminal Minds. And finally, the very long-in-development Beyond Good & Evil 2 is apparently still chugging along at Ubisoft, despite the company's recent layoffs and restructuring.

The Ad Hoc committee investigating allegations of criminal infiltration, corruption and political interference in the criminal justice system says, North West business man Brown Mogotsi, wants to appear before it on conditions. The Committee says he wants to be protected by his own personal security, but must be funded by Parliament. Mogotsi was initially schedule to testify before the committee this week.

"I've spent the last few months traveling the state, visiting with folks in small towns across North Dakota, and I think it's really important to make the point that I have not asked them to talk about healthcare, he said on this episode of Plain Talk. "They have asked me to talk about healthcare. It's a top-of-mind issue for farmers and ranchers and small business owners and independent contractors across our state." As Congress continues to debate whether to extend subsidies for health insurance policies sold on the federal exchanges -- where 25% to 30% of North Dakota farmers get their insurance, per Perdue -- he says his constituents are tired of the issue being used for political posturing while they face significant financial strain. "Let's set the Rs and D's, the conservative and liberals aside and say, 'Hey, we have the most expensive health care system in the world. How can we work together to actually make it work for real families and not make it a political football over and over again?'" Perdue also said the so-called "farmer bailout" -- a federal relief package touted by President Donald Trump's administration to help the agriculture industry deal with low crop prices and rising input costs -- "necessary" and a "good thing to do." But only in the short term. "I hate that we're relying on emergency ad hoc payments again," he said. Perdue argued that the agricultural industry currently relies on emergency bailouts for a wide variety of stressors, including trade disputes, natural disasters, and market fluctuations caused by COVID-19, because the existing safety net is not built to withstand these pressures. Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala, currently in Pretoria’s Kgosi Mampuru Maximum Security Prison, is set to testify before Parliament’s ad hoc committee probing police corruption and interference in policing. But he almost didn’t, as he tried to delay his testimony saying he is not prepared. I can tell you it was like sitting with a long, lost neighbor when sitting with Kelly E. Carter.  And in fact, we were neighbors of sorts back in the day. It wasn't until I was searching for images to create the icons for this podcast did I realize I was in the presence of true maverick royalty.  Besides being a New York Times best selling author, she has reported from the greatest sporting events of the world: the NBA FInals, Super Bowls, Grand Slams, Stanley Cup Finals and much more. And more intriguing, she was the woman reporter in the locker room! I was so intrigued and we could have spoken for hours because she is the Founder of the wine tourism group, Napa Valley Noir. sitting down with Kelly E. Carter in the studio for this episode of Wine Talks was like taking a stroll down memory lane while simultaneously hitching a ride on a train heading straight for the future of wine tourism. There's something about Kelly—her energy, her wit, and just her knack for storytelling—that gets you thinking about the wine industry in ways that feel both nostalgic and freshly invigorating. We kicked things off with some good old home turf banter—Kelly's Windsor Hills childhood (Ray Charles and Ike & Tina Turner for neighbors, no less) and my own roots in Inglewood. Instantly, there was this shared sense that, before wine stole our hearts, Southern California had given us some pretty unique perspectives on culture and community. And as Kelly pointed out, “you'll never know everything” about winemaking, which is honestly the very reason some of us keep swirling, sipping, and studying. I know I do. What genuinely impressed me was Kelly's trajectory. She was the first female to cover the Lakers—how many people do you meet who set out in fourth grade to be a sports journalist and actually make it happen? She wasn't just content to report on sports. She made her mark, switched lanes into entertainment, and then into luxury travel writing, which eventually led her to Florence and Positano. It's the kind of layered journey you don't hear about every day. You talk to some folks, they've been in wine their whole lives. With Kelly, it's travel, sports, culture—all converging in the glass. We got into the nitty-gritty of wine and travel writing and how AI could never replace the boots-on-the-ground experience. I had to laugh—when Kelly plugged Napa into chatbots, she got recommendations for wineries that are closed for renovations. "You have to know the latest," she said, reminding me that the best wine stories are always written with real shoe leather, not just code. Her insights into Napa Valley tourism were equally compelling. As the founder of Napa Valley Noir, Kelly's passion lies in creating experiences rich in narrative, not just pouring cabs for folks who made it big in tech and want a taste of the valley lifestyle. She's all about partnerships with wineries that have soul, stories, and a genuine connection to their craft—whether it's a historic vineyard run by women or an impromptu meeting with Thomas Keller that leaves guests starstruck. Frankly, I couldn't agree more. The stories make the bottle—and the memories. That's what keeps this business alive, even as the market shifts. Kelly also talked about the recent surge in African American visitors to Napa, thanks in part to celebrity influence (LeBron, Kobe, you name it), and her drive to ensure these visitors experience the full magic Napa has to offer, not just what's on the surface. She's honest—her intake forms ask straight-up about comfort level on bottle prices. She knows how to match guests with the right wineries, sometimes calling in a favor for an extra pour or a charcuterie board, because that's how relationships form and deepen in this business. There's a lesson in Kelly's methods: whether it's a group of corporate execs, first-timers, or veteran collectors, she makes sure the experience is tailored and memorable. Maybe it's the aftermath of her own battles—her candor about beating a rare cancer got me thinking about perspective, gratitude, and the importance of living fully, whether it's raising a glass or hiking through a vineyard. Talking with Kelly reminded me why I started this podcast in the first place. Washington's Ad Hoc Navy and the Formation of the Commander-in-Chief's Guard Author: Patrick O'Donnell Book Title: The Indispensables: The Diverse Soldier Mariners Who Shaped the Country, Formed the Navy, and Rowed Washington across the Delaware Upon George Washington's arrival in July 1775, the Continental Army suffered a critical shortage of black powder, forcing Washington to seek urgent supply solutions. He developed a unique trust with the Marbleheaders, whose nautical expertise he relied upon. Washington bypassed Congress to create his own Navy—a fleet of "cruisers" (including the Leeand the Warren) manned by Marblehead sailors, essentially perfect marines. Their primary goal was to intercept British transports laden with ordnance and powder. Captain John Manley, a Marbleheader, achieved a critical success, capturing one of the war's richest prizes—a ship filled with supplies that included a massive mortar used later at Dorchester Heights. Washington's Navy operated primarily out of Beverly, Massachusetts, a heavily defended, difficult-to-navigate, protected port. Additionally, Washington formed the Commander-in-Chief's Guard, or Lifeguard, which was an early precursor to the Secret Service, tasked with protecting the general and his papers. This handpicked volunteer unit was placed under the command of Marbleheader Caleb Gibbs.

In his latest interview with Chris Steyn, Ian Cameron, the Chair of Parliament's Portfolio Committee on Police, slams former Police Minister Senzo Mchunu for setting the Hawks on a satirist. “..it's just absolutely ridiculous, ludicrous to say the least - and that they would fly down a team from Johannesburg to come and waste time when there's actual real crime to fight. So proper North Korean-style operation…” Cameron calls 40 gunmen taking control of a municipal council in Northwest a “municipal coup d'etat". He says it begs the question whether we could expect “more on a provincial and even a national level” and says “this is exactly one of the reasons we should fight against the disarming of lawfully armed citizens”. Commenting on delays in the launch of the Ad Hoc committee that has to hear the Mkhwanazi allegations of Police Capture, Cameron says it is “extremely frustrating process…we continued to see the delays move forward. We just kept on hearing more excuses for things not happening. And now we're already more than a month in since when we could have started work in the beginning of August, and we still haven't finalised the programme”. Meanwhile, he laments the “bloodbath” on the Cape Flats. “…in the top 30 stations in the Western Cape, over the last month of August, we saw over 300 people being murdered. The impression is given that the police are doing what they can, but to be honest with you, they're not. They don't have the capacity even if they wanted to.”
