This week, Stephanie Wong and Anthony Bushong introduce a special podcast of the Gtalk at Airbus speaker series where prestigious Googlers have been invited to talk with Airbus. In this episode, Vint Cerf, who is widely regarded as one of the fathers of the Internet, talks with Rhys Phillips of Airbus and fellow Googler Rafael Lami Dozo. Vint tells us about his journey to Google, including his interest in science which stemmed from a chemistry set he received as a child. After high school, he got a job writing data analyzation software on the Apollo project. His graduate work at UCLA led him to the ARPANet project where he developed host protocols, and eventually to his work on the original Internet with Bob Kahn. Vint tells us about the security surrounding this project and the importance of internet security still today. The open architecture of the internet then and now excites Vint because it allows new, interesting projects to contribute without barriers. Vint is also passionate about accessibility. At Google, he and his team continue to make systems more accessible by listening to clients and adapting software to make it usable. He sees an opportunity to train developers to optimize software to work with common accessibility tools like screen readers to ensure better usability. Later, Vint tells us about the Interplanetary Internet, describing how this system is being built to provide fast, effective Internet to every part of the planet. Along with groups like the Internet Engineering Task Force, this new Internet is being deployed and tested now to ensure it works as expected. He talks about his work with NASA and other space agencies to grow the Interplanetary Internet. Digital obsolescence is another type of accessibility that concerns Vint. Over time, the loads of data we store and their various storage devices could become unreadable. Software needed to use or see this media could no longer be supported as well, making the data inaccessible. Vint hopes we will begin practicing ways to perpetuate the existence of this data through copying and making software more backward compatible. He addresses the issues with this, including funding. Vint Cerf While at UCLA, Vint Cerf worked on ARPANet - the very beginnings of what we know as the internet today and is now, fittingly, Chief Internet Evangelist & VP at Google. He is an American Internet pioneer and is recognized as one of “the fathers of the Internet”, sharing this title with TCP/IP co-developer Bob Kahn. Rhys Phillips Rhys Phillips is Change and Adoption Leader, Digital Workplace at Airbus. Rafael Lami Dozo Rafael Lami Dozo is Customer Success Manager, Google Cloud Workspace for Airbus. Are Indie Authors Their Own Worst Enemies? Are Indie Authors Their Own Worst Enemies? It is quite possible! Years ago, only five or six, many indie authors were doing 'fairly well' and were confident about their future - that their sales would continue to rise and that they would continue to write enthusiastically.I started writing and self-publishing in 2012 and was selling ninety books a month by the end of the following year, and I was flying by the seat of my pants - I was learning how to market and distribute my three books as I went along, but was earning enough to live in Thailand, which admittedly was a cheap country to stay in those days. There probably weren't as many would-be writers back then either and there certainly weren't as many books on the virtual shelves in online bookshops, but I think that there may be another factor at play for why Indie Authors might be Their Own Worst Enemies. We all know that businesses exist to make money, and none are more brutal than the American Internet giants, and most of them make their money as a percentage of what they sell. And this is my point. In their struggle to become rich or and famous, too many novice writers pitch their books at 99c or even less. I regularly see "twenty ebooks for 99c".Now, I can understand why a misguided author may try to get his or her foot in the door using this tactic, but what about the Big Boys like Amazon? Are they going to be happy storing, serving and even promoting a 99c book or box-set for a 30% cut of 99c?I wouldn't be! Not when I can promote traditional publishers selling ebooks for $9.99 and paperbacks for $15.99 (or more)!Think about it.Amazon would earn 29c for selling an Indie author's box set of three - a month's supply of reading material - as opposed to $3 for one book! It's a no brainer! So, are Indie Authors Their Own Worst Enemies?Yes, definitely, and those who can't see that are ruining it for everyone else.I am convinced that Amazon has changed its algorithms to disadvantage indie authors because they sell their books too cheaply? Please LIKE and SHARE this article using the buttons below and visit our bookshopAll the best,OwenPodcast: Are Indie Authors Their Own Worst Enemies?http://meganthemisconception.com
Bill is an American Internet entrepreneur and freedom of information activist based in New York City, best known as the CEO and co-founder of Minds. Combining open source social media with crypto as an alternative to platforms like Facebook or Twitter.
On this episode of The Open Mind, we're delighted to welcome Christopher Painter, commissioner of The Global Commission on the Stability of Cyberspace. When I recorded my first ever program here in 2014, the subject with digital scholar and educator John Palfrey was the very real possibility of a digital Pearl Harbor or 9/11 in our lifetimes. It's clear from our evaluations on The Open Mind that such a crisis played out during the 2016 campaign, but not as we expected. We lacked the imagination foresight and most of all political will to respond as governments, citizens, and corporations, which often were hosts of malignant disinformation and enablers of massive security breaches. For over two decades, painter has been at the helm of American Internet policy as a prosecutor of high-profile cyber crimes. And then as a senior official at the Department of Justice, FBI, National Security Council, and finally the State Department. In his most recent role as the nation's top cyber diplomat, Painter coordinated and led the diplomatic efforts to advance an open internet and information infrastructure, establishing the office of the coordinator for cyber issues dedicated to advancing the diplomatic aspects of cyber issues ranging from national security to human rights.
Eric Schmidt, the former CEO of Google recently said: “I think the most likely scenario now is not a splitting, but rather a dividing into a Chinese-led internet and a non-Chinese internet led by the United States.” What would that mean for us? Do we need to pick? If Eric Schmidt is correct, and the split becomes permanent, other countries would face a politically charged decision about whose system to choose - The Chinese Internet or the American Internet. I think the decision will have huge ramifications for all us that are using the world wild web, constantly.

On BIV Today... B.C.’s economy is poised to contract over the next two years. A lot. RBC deputy chief economist Dawn Desjardins walks us through the bank’s latest economic forecast for the province and explains why tight supply and population growth may not be enough to keep the real estate industry chugging along at the same pace it has in recent years. Later, the BIV tech panel discusses the disappointing results from Google’s latest diversity report as well as efforts for the American Internet giant to compete with Alibaba in Asia. The panel also takes a look at warnings from American lawmakers to Canada that Chinese tech giant Huawei may pose a threat to national security. An interview with "the father of the Internet” TCP/IP co-inventor Vint Cerf. Cerf was born June 23, 1943 is an American Internet pioneer, who is recognized as one of "the fathers of the Internet”, sharing this title with TCP/IP co-inventor Bob Kahn. His contributions have been acknowledged and lauded, repeatedly, with honorary degrees and awards that include the National Medal of Technology, the Turing Award, the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the Marconi Prizeand membership in the National Academy of Engineering. In the early days, Cerf was a manager for the United States' Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) funding various groups to develop TCP/IP technology. When the Internet began to transition to a commercial opportunity during the late 1980s, Cerf moved to MCIwhere he was instrumental in the development of the first commercial email system (MCI Mail) connected to the Internet. Cerf was instrumental in the funding and formation of ICANN from the start. He waited a year before stepping forward to join the ICANN Board, and eventually became chairman. He was elected as the president of the Association for Computing Machinery in May 2012, and in August 2013 he joined the Council on CyberSecurity's Board of Advisors. Cerf is active in many organizations that are working to help the Internet deliver humanitarian value to the world. He is supportive of innovative projects that are experimenting with new approaches to global problems, including the digital divide, the gender gap, and the changing nature of jobs. Cerf is also known for his sartorial style, typically appearing in a three-piece suit—a rarity in an industry known for its casual dress norms. More here - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vint_Cerf

On this episode of the Microphone Therapy Podcast we talk about: James Charles, YouTube, and The Star Chamber https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Charles_(Internet_personality) James Charles Dickinson (born May 23, 1999) is an American Internet personality, beauty YouTuber, and make-up artist. While working as a local makeup artist in his hometown of Bethlehem, New York, he launched his self-titled YouTube channel, posting makeup tutorials. In 2016, he became the first male ambassador for CoverGirl after a tweet featuring his makeup went viral online. In February 2021, a 16-year-old TikTok user accused Charles of grooming him, stating that Charles had sent unsolicited nude photos to him and pressured him into sexting on Snapchat, even after Charles discovered that the user was 16 years old. In a statement posted to Twitter, Charles denied the allegations, saying that after adding the user on Snapchat, he received "lewd photos" from him, adding, "I asked how old he was right away and he told me he was 18 so I started flirting back." He went on to say that, after the user revealed that he was 16 years old, Charles "un-friended" him. Later that month, another TikTok user accused Charles of soliciting nude photos from him, while one Twitter user alleged that Charles flirted with him after finding out that he was 17 years old. In March 2021, Jake Cherry, another 16-year-old TikTok user, posted a video showing alleged messages between him and Charles, including a shirtless picture of Charles, as well as later messages in which Charles accused Cherry of lying about his age, though Cherry stated that Charles was aware of his age during their interaction Star Chamber Definition - A court or group that engages in secret, harsh, or arbitrary procedures.
