Blessings upon all ye blasphemers, for we are back from summer vacation!!! This is one of the BEST Bible stories we've gotten to cover so far as we continue in the Book of Judges with the stories of Othniel, Ehud, and also Shamgar was there. Most of the time we focus on the story of Ehud and his diabolical scheming, and how he secures victory for Israel. In the pop corner we talk about the origins of the phrase 'familiarity breeds contempt', as well as the Antique Roadshow. And keep an ear out for an extra refreshing treat in Everett's ASMR Alcove this week. So let's dive back in and wait no longer dear flock, lest ye embarrass yourselves. Special thanks to Henry Rogland for our intro, and to Bird Creek for our theme song, "Hooky With Sloane." Join Liss and Kristi with guest Duane Scott Cerny, the Chicago-based antique dealer, author, and storyteller who tells tales from the eclectic roadshow of his life. Duane shares the hilarious chapters from his books "Selling Dead People's Things" and "Vintage Confidential". His anecdotes include his early days selling Playboy magazines from his school locker, to the quirks of his (partly) adult store business.Duane tells of finding vintage treasures, and how he wooed the rival dealers in Chicago with gifts of wine. He shares his insights into mid-century architecture and collectibles, and we hear about Kristi's love for a John Lautner house she renovated in Oklahoma City. We chat about the shifting landscape of collectibles, influenced by platforms like eBay and TV shows such as Antique Roadshow, and reflect on how changing times have reshaped the appreciation for vintage finds, and led to a resurgence of mid-century design. Yes, it is December. And yes, it is football season. But why not talk a little baseball? JB (Jerry) Manheim is a local author with four books under his belt and a fifth coming out next month. Spurned to write by Antique Roadshow, Jerry takes a look at baseball history during the deadball era and tries to answer some unanswered questions. While it is fiction, it is historical fiction based in fact with reasonable conclusions drawn. Jerry questions how several future Hall of Famers ended up in the same Army camp in Georgia before there was a Hall of Fame? Part thriller. Part history. And all baseball. The books make a perfect gift for any baseball fan and are available at Amazon or any bookstore (you might need to ask for it to be ordered in ). A fascinating conversation. Have a listen. NOTE: This was recorded outside at Rise Up in Edgewater and during the recording, we battled the arrival of leaf blowers, loud cars, and an occasional screeching child. I did my best to mitigate the sound, but there is some muffling and damping! Sorry. - JWF LINKS: JB Manheim (Website) JB Manheim (Amazon) JB Manheim (Sunbury Press)

There are 238 RNLI lifeboat stations, and Harry Bott set out to visit all of them on a 96-year-old Sunbeam motorcycle Like all the best adventures, it started with a treasure map. This map just happened to be printed on a tea towel. The map – pinpointing all 238 RNLI lifeboat stations – led fundraiser Harry Bott to a granite barn in Cornwall. Inside, rested his great-grandfather's 1926 Sunbeam Model 1 motorcycle – untouched for 67 years, and almost half as old as the RNLI itself. Harry, with help from his father, set about restoring the Sunbeam before embarking on an 8,000-mile trip around the coastlines of Britain and Ireland, visiting every RNLI lifeboat station along the way. As the donations poured in, his original fundraising target would be left in pieces. But would the Sunbeam be left in pieces too? 200 Voices is produced by Adventurous Audio for the RNLI Interview by Adventurous Audio Soundtrack composed and performed by Jon Nicholls The RNLI is a charity celebrating 200 years of saving lives at sea - find out more at RNLI.org/200

The author of the book "Selling Dead People's Things" Duane Scott Cerny regaled Mark and Nicole with great and sometimes scary stories from over 30 years of buying and selling antiques. Duane actually got his start reselling his friend's toys as a kid, then nude pictures his father brought home from his job as Playboy (to his bullies), He then detoured to study with the state poet laureate, get into the burgeoning house music scene and put out some of the first vinyl recordings of the legendary Frankie Knuckles, and eventually went from a basement store selling lunchboxes to owning the largest antique store in Chicago. He rented a 2 headed cow to Oliver Stone, showed vintage sideshow pictures to Mark and Nicole, and told stories of haunted furniture such as an unplugged TV turning on and a mysterious desk with mysterious writing which scared staff and customers alike. A spooky special as Ed explains the origins of Halloween but not before discussing the merits of The Karate Kid and it's similarities with a certain space saga. Ed keeps the swear jar empty for the duration of the episode but adult themes remain in a PG kind of way. There's also a run down of his top picks for Sunday afternoon television and why Antiques Roadshow is a perfect tonic for these mad times. All this plus an exciting trailer for a movie that doesn't exist and Brendan Blowhard drops his latest tune, a banging cover of a spooky classic. Enjoy!

This week, we're Trekking Out Gersha Phillips design choices, and her redesign necessities, from the Paley center. Then we're reading from Vizzini's rules of acquisition, appraising Star Trek, and redrawing Prime Ministers. In Star Trek Online and gaming news, console captains get some free goodies and all three of the Discovery era lock boxes are returning to PC for a limited time. And Elijah has a few thoughts //cough//cough/// rant/// cough// about player retention! Of course, as always, before we wrap up the show, we'll open hailing frequencies for your incoming messages! This Weeks COMMUNITY QUESTION is: How, if at all, did the Grand Nagus affect your opinion of the Ferengi? AND Would you like to see random TFOs split into space and ground and all selections? With tiered incentives. Let us know on social media like Facebook, Twitter, or by visiting our website! TREK IT OUT by Jake Morgan Gersha Phillips on Star Trek Design This week, Star Trek.com advertised the final days of Star Trek: Discovery's Paley Center exhibit - Fight for the Future - by speaking with Costume Designer Gersha Phillips. In the 4 minute, 43 second video, Phillips spoke about re-designing the Talosians “The Talosians were a really cool species that we got to do, reimagining them from the TOS and the Original Pilot. My first design, one of the notes I got from Alex [Kurtzman]was to try to look at the original things and revamp them. So I did my very first design, one of the notes that I got from Alex [Kurtzman] was to try to look at the original things and revamp them. So I did my very first design, and he actually threw back to me and said ‘Can I go a little bit further and do what you do?'” Star Trek's costume designer also discussed the Red Angel suit, sighting Scarlett Johansen's “Ghost in the Shell” costume as inspiration. She continued, saying “When we were given the task, Mario [Moreira] came up with this idea of the propellor wings that would push her through time [...] and we had this whole other idea where we were gonna build - it was gonna be a pod - and then the angel suit would come out of the pod. [...] When we were first given it, it was said that the suit was a thousand years in the future, and then it turned out to be a suit that her mom was wearing from the past” Wallace Shawn Remembers the Grand Nagus Can you imagine the Ferengi without their Grand Nagus? The thought is inconceivable! The capitalist species could have fallen victim to any number of classic blunders. The most famous of which is 'never get involved in a land war in Asia,' but only slightly less well known is...well, it doesn't matter! What we're REALLY talking about is the incomparable Wallace Shawn, and his portrayal of Top-Ferengi - Grand Nagus Zek. This week, the 75 year old New York native sat down with Star Trek.com to talk about his time on Deep Space Nine. Shawn told the site that he had never owned a television and only saw pieces of Star Trek: The Next Generation when in hotel rooms, but he was impressed ”I always thought, “Wow, the cinematography is so great and it's so interesting-looking, with these interesting-looking people and creatures.” So, when I was asked to do DS9, I was thrilled. I loved the idea.” Shawn also had kind words about Star Trek's fans, telling StarTrek.com “Star Trek fans are a particular group. They're very distinctive as people. There seem to be no evil Star Trek fans. They're a distinctly goodhearted group of people [...]. It's an interesting group of people.” Trek the Stars with “Antique Roadshow” If you like history, reality TV, or are just REALLY jonesing for some new small screen Star Trek representation, PBS might have something for you. This week, the long-running appraisal series - “Antique Roadshow” - is setting its sights on outer space. The episode, titled “Out of This World”, is part of PBS' “Summer of Space” promotion, and will feature signed memorabilia from Emilia Earhart, John Glenn, and Neil Armstrong - as well as production pieces from Star Trek! TV Guide's description of season 23's 19th episode reads “Space-themed treasures are featured, including NASA Space Program autographed photos; a 1737 celestial and terrestrial atlas; and a Star Trek treatment, script, and letters.” The Chicago Tribune also posted an interview with long-time “Antique Roadshow” appraiser, Leila Dunbar. Sir Wilfrid Laurier's #SpockingFives Sir Wilfrid Laurier...are you out of your VULCAN MIND?!? Who is Sir Wilfrid Laurier, you may be asking? Well, he is the first French-Canadian prime minister of the Dominion of Canada and the face of Canada's Five Dollar Bill - and he is being transformed into our beloved Mr. Spock. In a trend that is currently accompanying the hashtag SpockingFives, budding Canadian artists are drawing pointy ears, slanted eyebrows, and Star Fleet Deltas on the Canadian five dollar bill, turning the Former Prime Minister into a Vulcan first officer. While the act is technically NOT illegal, the Bank of Canada warns “there are important reasons why it should not be done. Writing on a bank note may interfere with the security features and reduces its lifespan. Markings on a note may also prevent it from being accepted in a transaction. Furthermore, the Bank of Canada feels that writing and markings on bank notes are inappropriate as they are a symbol of our country and a source of national pride.” STAR TREK ONLINE AND GAMING NEWS by Anthony Cox Free Pets & Master Keys for Console Players Console captains can now claim the free Rise of Discovery pack in their respective game stores. Playstation Plus users can claim the free pack, which contains one Cobalt Combat Tardigrade, one Cobalt Covert Assault Drone Pet, and 3 Master Keys. Then we’re reading from Vizzini’s rules of acquisition, appraising Star Trek, and redrawing Prime Ministers. In Star Trek Online and gaming news, console captains get some free goodies and all three of the Discovery era lock boxes are returning to PC for a limited time. And Elijah has a few thoughts //cough//cough/// rant/// cough// about player retention! Of course, as always, before we wrap up the show, we’ll open hailing frequencies for your incoming messages! TREK IT OUT by Jake Morgan Gersha Phillips on Star Trek Design This week, Star Trek.com advertised the final days of Star Trek: Discovery’s Paley Center exhibit - Fight for the Future - by speaking with Costume Designer Gersha Phillips. So I did my very first design, and he actually threw back to me and said ‘Can I go a little bit further and do what you do?’” Star Trek’s costume designer also discussed the Red Angel suit, sighting Scarlett Johansen’s “Ghost in the Shell” costume as inspiration. The most famous of which is 'never get involved in a land war in Asia,' but only slightly less well known is...well, it doesn’t matter! What we’re REALLY talking about is the incomparable Wallace Shawn, and his portrayal of Top-Ferengi - Grand Nagus Zek. I loved the idea.” Shawn also had kind words about Star Trek’s fans, telling StarTrek.com “Star Trek fans are a particular group. The episode, titled “Out of This World”, is part of PBS’ “Summer of Space” promotion, and will feature signed memorabilia from Emilia Earhart, John Glenn, and Neil Armstrong - as well as production pieces from Star Trek! TV Guide’s description of season 23’s 19th episode reads “Space-themed treasures are featured, including NASA Space Program autographed photos; a 1737 celestial and terrestrial atlas; and a Star Trek treatment, script, and letters.” The Chicago Tribune also posted an interview with long-time “Antique Roadshow” appraiser, Leila Dunbar. Sir Wilfrid Laurier’s #SpockingFives Sir Wilfrid Laurier...are you out of your VULCAN MIND?!? Who is Sir Wilfrid Laurier, you may be asking? Well, he is the first French-Canadian prime minister of the Dominion of Canada and the face of Canada’s Five Dollar Bill - and he is being transformed into our beloved Mr. The collection, was valued by appraiser Gary Piattoni at between $2,500 and $3,500, he was a decorated African American seaman a mere 20 years after the abolition of slavery. After retiring from the Navy at 52, Minor had the wherewithal to buy a four-bedroom home in Newport and to invest in the stock market. Again, Minor was ahead of his time. Says Brian, "Some of the stocks didn't pan out, but he was buying stocks a hundred at a time during the Great Depression. Black man or white man, that's something." True, yet it is all the more remarkable for a black man in a society that would be segregated by law for another 30 years.

This week we're putting out a live episode from our somewhat recent Europe tour. This is the first night in Manchester at The King's Arms. Included are some stories about us visiting an optical illusion museum in Edinburgh and almost missing our flight from Dublin because we're extremely out of shape. This episode also marks the first time Tim tries out some of his new topical political humor on a Manchester audience before we get into the real topic of the show: Conspiracy Theories. We manage to cover reptilian humanoids living amongst us, the connection between the JFK assassination and Billy Joel, as well as whether or not dinosaurs still live. We also introduce a completely new audience participation segment called "Real Conspiracy Theory or Something Tom Made Up" and trot out an old favorite "The Mundane Bucket List". Before closing out this super-sized episode we also solve some audience problems concerning invisible bears and roommates who lie about attending university.
