Howard also walks us through the turnover in the legislature of this increasinly-important state. Howard Franklin is the President and CEO of Ohio River South, a high-stakes strategy firm rooted in the New American South and led by professionals from government, business and politics. Howard has led nonprofits, served in government, elected and lobbied public officials across two dozen states and counting. His career began leading a voter engagement nonprofit for former Mayor Maynard Jackson, before working for Mayor Shirley Franklin. In total, he has given nearly a decade to public service, working for Minority Leader Stacey Abrams and later serving as Senior Policy Advisor to Georgia's largest county, weighing in on a broad range of issues from healthcare to criminal justice. He maintains dual citizenship in public and private sectors and has helped drive billions in investment while consulting for industry leaders across technology, healthcare, hospitality, transit and real estate. Equally adept in state capitals and on the campaign trail, he has helped public officials make and communicate policy decisions, win and hold elected office. In 2021, he led the campaign that elected Andre Dickens the 61st Mayor of Atlanta and co-chaired the mayor's transition team. Howard was elected the first male president of the Georgia League of Women Voters at age 29, and was thrice recognized as Top 40 Under 40 by Georgia Trend Magazine, Atlanta Business Chronicle and The Network Journal. He was named a 2021 Man of Influence by the Atlanta Business League, and is a frequent contributor to the New York Times, Politico, NPR and MSNBC. The Reverend Doctor Kevin R. Murriel serves as the senior pastor of Cascade United Methodist Church, a multi-site ministry that includes campuses in midtown and southwest Atlanta, Georgia. He received his Bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Jackson State University, his Master of Divinity from Candler School of Theology, and his Doctor of Ministry from Duke University. An insightful preacher, avid reader, and social activist, Dr. Murriel's research focuses on translating the methods of the Civil Rights Movement into a modern strategy for social justice. In 2018, he was appointed by Dean Jan Love as Assistant Professor in the Practice of Practical Theology and Director of the Black Methodist Seminarian's Program at Emory University's Candler School of Theology. Dr. Murriel is a community leader and faithfully serves on several boards which include, the Andrew and Walter Young Family YMCA, the North Georgia Board of Ordained Ministry, Murphy–Harpst, The Foundation for Wesley Woods, and The Joseph and Evelyn Lowery Institute. Dr. Murriel is a member of the 100 Black Men of Atlanta and the Leadership Atlanta Class of 2019. For leading innovative change and being a conscious voice for social justice, Gammon Theological Seminary named him as the 2016 Emerging Prophetic Leader. In 2021, he was inducted into the Martin Luther King Jr. College of Ministers Board of Preachers through Morehouse College, named a Man of Influence by the Atlanta Business League, and inducted into the National Black College Alumni Hall of Fame. She was also selected by LWVUS to be a National Coach with the Ruth S. Shur Fellow Program. With 12 local leagues and 600 members statewide, the League works tirelessly to empower voters and defend our democracy. They do this by registering citizens to vote, educating them on the process, hosting candidate and issue forums, as well as creating an on-line voter guide to assist citizens in preparing their ballot choices for elections. The League is a Nonpartisan organization fighting for the people on issues ranging from healthcare to education to voting rights. Tracy has been a member of the League for 20 years. She has served her community through various nonprofit organizations since she was in middle school. Tracy has been an avid member of Toastmasters. She has been featured in radio, print and television interviews because of her service, dedication and perseverance.
