These final 2 episodes of the Bardcast miniseries on Assisted dying stand together to share inspiring and touching monologues from Stephen Callaghan's beautiful play Pure dead Dangerous. (Julie's mum in this episode and The Priest in the 2nd episode.)We look at the dark comedy of the astonishing rhetoric around the Sarco (the suicide pod) that refers to it as ‘reliable and safe.'We ask whose values and choices are really respected when autonomy becomes the highest value in society and consider what values and ideas really help us. We encourage everyone to send episodes of this mini-series to friends and MPs or MSPs who need to imagine the possible unforeseen consequences of the Assisted Dying bill becoming law before it's too late. For those creatives wanting to attend the Write for Life Academy's next Activation Day in June 14th or online in October apply herewww.writeforlife.academy
In this vulnerable episode, I share a moment I'm not proud of ~ a quiet judgement I made about someone else that caught me off guard. But instead of pushing it away, I looked at it closely… and realised it had nothing to do with them, and everything to do with a fear I hadn't fully healed in myself. With a focus on social media, in this episode I chat about the pressure we feel as a society to prove to others that we are 'happy' or 'successful,' or looking and feeling good. However what I've learned, is that success doesn't have to look loud. When I felt into this ~ the need to prove to others how 'well' I was doing melted away. It allowed me to breathe, the pressure melted away and I started becoming enjoying my life a lot more! This episode is also for anyone who's ever felt irrelevant, behind, or like their best achievements are already behind them. I explore how we measure our worth by the last “big thing” we did, and how that pressure to constantly top ourselves keeps us stuck in self-doubt.We also dive into; ~ The freedom that comes when we understand our projections~ Why we over-explain and justify ourselves when we're feeling unworthy~ How letting go of the need to prove our success to others brings a refreshing, peaceful energy. And I close with some reflective questions to help you redefine what success truly means to you:
Following on from our previous episode of the Bardcast's mini-series on euthanasia in film, novel and drama: helping people imagine the out-workings of government-assisted dying in order to oppose the Leadbetter Bill, Sarah de Nordwall and her guest Robert Cassidy have an energetic discussion of the remarkable 1907 novel “Lord of the World” by Robert Hugh Benson and explore the principles at work in a society that produces the “strange fruit” of state sanctioned euthanasia. Learn about the tragic and prescient story of 18 year old Mabel and what she learns at the end…that her society could never have helped her imagine. If you would like to be part of the Write for Life Academy please contact Sarah at sarah@sarahdenordwall.com

In this episode I share my thoughts on creating your support network. When we're in crisis—whether it's divorce, grief, anxiety, or panic—it can feel like we're completely on our own, with no one to turn to. In those moments, our brains convince us that we're isolated, without a friend in the world. But the reality is, we aren't. That's why it's so important to build our support network before crisis hits. There's so much more on this topic (because it's SO IMPORTANT) in my book, How to Divorce Sober. If you need more encouragement and permission to build your team, head there! I also talk about my not-so-secret love of online courses and how they've become an essential part of my support system: When I'm too triggered to watch TV, I do a little workshop. When I'm not sure what to do next, I dip into an online course. When I need to breathe, I follow something from my yoga teacher's online library. When I need to shift my energy and get out of a funk… you get it. I do an online course. I also go for walks and chat with friends, but there's something so comforting and familiar about learning from these people I've grown to love. In this podcast, I talk about: Claire Venus Creative mentor and all-round babe. She was on ep 43 (love and slow living) and 58 (back to school) and you can find her treasure trove of online goodies at Creatively Conscious and Sparkle on Substack Kat River - Art of Alchemy. Mother-centric business and life course that was truly transformational for me last. So many ah-ha moments, it helped to get through my book publishing fears and I loved doing it with my pal, Claire. We'd send each other long voice notes about what came up for us. Super bonding! I've never seen motherhood and business being spoken about at all, never mind in such an insightful and practical way. Just magic! The live round starts again on 27th Feb 2025 so have a look now so you don't miss it: Art of Alchemy. Use the code AOAFRIENDS for a 10% discount. Leonie Dawson Incredible teacher who's been around forever so I'm sure you already know her! But boy do I love her. Such wise, brave, sensible, encouraging, get-your-head-out-your-own-butt tough love. Just what we all need from time to time! The first course I did: Money manifesting and multiple streams of income She's done hundreds of courses so now I'm in her Biz & Life Academy as you get everything for a fraction of the cost. Jambo Dragon Yoga with intention, online courses for the soul, magic that works... I've been subscribed to Jambo's online world for about 5 years now and couldn't live without him. I tried. Those months were rough.

Oakland Unified School District began this school year with some unsettling news: the drinking water in the district's schools had tested positive for dangerously high levels of lead. The district had found high levels of lead in the water during tests conducted over spring and summer, but it didn't share those results with parents and staff until this August. Lead testing hasn't been required in California schools for the last five years. That means Oakland Unified is unusual among California school districts in that it knows that there's a lead problem at all. Do you have wounds from your past or lies that you are believing about yourself? Do you believe God in your head but struggle to believe in your heart? Clinical Psychologist, Dr. Margaret Nagib, shares her personal testimony of knowing God in her head but not in her heart. A friend invited her to a church where she experienced God in a whole new way. She then learned about the inner healing technique, called Sozo (the Greek word for salvation). Sozo is from attachment theory with how we get our sense of identify from our families. We create wounds around our experiences and this can inhibit us from being close and connected to Father God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit. Hear Dr. Margaret Nagib, lead you into the process of healing wounds from your past relationships and get connected to God. You will hear the Biblical back for this process in connection to attachment theory. You will learn the importance of receiving healing in our soul, not just our body. “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” ~John 16:33 “In the wilderness where you saw how the LORD your God carried you, as a man carries his son, in all the way that you went until you came to this place.” ~Deuteronomy 1:31 “May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. The one who calls you is faithful, and he will do it.” ~1 Thessalonians 5:23-24 “Who can understand his errors? Cleanse me from secret faults.” ~Psalm 19:12 Dr. Nagib's website: http://www.thedunamisproject.org/ Sign up for Life Academy class Overcoming Overwhelm: https://loplifeacademy.com/course/overcoming-overwhelm/ To purchase Dr. Nagib's book: https://www.amazon.com/Souls-Like-Stars-Renew-Unveil/dp/0997337265/ref=sr_1_1?crid=16ECZU28HINAQ&keywords=dr.+margaret+nagib&qid=1678054885&sprefix=dr.+margaret+nagib%2Caps%2C114&sr=8-1 If you are in crisis, help is available by call or text 1-800-273-8255 24/7. On our first episode of Academy Award nominees for Best Picture, we talk about the new movie Nomadland. A poetic, passionate, and beautiful film that goes into full depth of the Nomad lifestyle. We also talk about how we feel about Chloe Zhao winning the Best Director at the Golden Globes (FIRST Asian director to win & SECOND woman to win this reward). Humans are busy creatures, and our brains are wired to anticipate future events. When it comes to identifying where we want to be or what we want to accomplish in the future, our efforts often fall short. Humans have this amazing ability to self-sabotage their endeavors, or to procrastinate eternally. The fix? Starting with accountability. You are likely familiar with the term, but let's explore together how accountability as it relates to us and our peers is one of the most important tools you can equip yourself with in order to be who you want to be. We take a close look at a high school called the Life Academy of Health and Bioscience, in an effort to learn how they achieve such extraordinary results for their students. This school is unique for many reasons - but in this case - student, counselor, and teacher accountability stood out to be the secret sauce that pulls everything together. Our guest Grinders for Season 4 have some diverse opinions regarding peer accountability so far - and we are curious to see how they develop throughout the course of the season. We have Sam - an introspective guy who's life has been put on pause due to Covid-19, we have Chase - an exuberant young hip hop artist who is reaching a transition point in his life, and we have Ren - a law student accomplishing her graduate studies in Hawaii. Deep Dive - Explore this case study developed by Stanford's SCOPE, which we referenced throughout the episode: https://edpolicy.stanford.edu/sites/default/files/SCOPE-Student-Centered-Learning-Life.pdf Send us an email: strictlybusinessthepod@gmail.com Follow us on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/StrictlyBusinessPod Follow us on Instagram: @strictlybusinesspod Intro and end music performed by The Rhetorician: https://open.spotify.com/artist/0AMZup7bCBE6kW6cEtmMNf?si=UtuEPpLBQVm9M8T9-xUtlQ
Are you your own advocate?Or are you passing the responsibility of your emotional well-being to things outside of yourself... ... things you probably can't control? So many of us in veterinary medicine do just that.We conclude that it is challenging, or even impossible, to create joyful and peaceful lives while also working in the veterinary profession. We're wrong.Creating happy lives is no more difficult in veterinary medicine than it is in any other profession or life situation. It requires an intentional choice. It requires an understanding of what is really influencing the way we feel.It requires personal ownership of our own experience. It requires us to define and pursue what we want. If we don't purposely decide what we want for our lives, our lives just happen to us.Often we recognize we don't like the "hand we were dealt" but we miss recognizing we played a role in dealing that hand.Every time we don't intentionally decide something, a choice is still being made...There is still personal responsibility in the results of those non-choices.Whatever story you're telling about your life... let's shake that up... let's see it for what it really is.There is only one you. You have only one life. This life of yours, it's not messed up... you're right on track. This moment in time was always coming...The time to intentionally decide to take control of your future is now.You don't know where to start... I've got you.Vet Life Academy.Everything you want for your life is one intentional decision away. It's go time.Check it out at https://joyfuldvm.com/vetlifeacademy
