This week I am thrilled to share with you a conversation with Amber Brueseke. As a registered nurse, mom of four kids, and group fitness instructor, she felt like she had the exercise routine down. But unable to see desired changes in her body, she finally looked into what might support her physical goals nutritionally. She discovered the world of Macros (at the time it was more well known as IIFYM [if it fits your macros]) and began to rapidly change her physique. Now as a successful business owner helping women use the tool of macros to transform their minds and bodies, she shares with us how to work through self sabotage when we have goals but we simply won't follow through on the efforts required to achieve them. Amber is generous with her wisdom in this episode regarding nutrition, exercise, and how to eat in a way that empowers you. You won't want to miss a second of this episode! As business owners, we often face challenges that our family and friends don't get. It's like trying to explain quantum physics to a rock. They're not even really sure what it is you DO for a living… And trying to vent to your team about these challenges? Let's just say, that's like trying to put out a fire with gasoline. If you vent to your team about the challenges you're facing, it makes you look like an ineffective leader who can't “keep it together”. They start to think that the business (and their job) is at risk - and may seek more “stable” employment somewhere else. But fear not, because on today's episode we're discussing why finding a tribe of business owners who understand the struggle is crucial.  And who better to join me in this convo than one of MY biz besties - Amber Brueseke of Biceps After Babies! Amber helps women achieve their health and fitness goals in a fun and easy way. Her motto is:  “Lose the weight you want without cutting out the food you love.” And I'm pretty sure she's onto something there. For all you entrepreneurs, I'm sure you want to grow your business if it means being better able to help people. This is particularly true for coaches. That's why I'm talking to someone today about how to improve your coaching skills in order to help your business grow.   About Amber Brueseke Amber Brueseke is a wife, mom of four (ages 8-15), and a former RN who founded Biceps After Babies because she believes that being a mom doesn't have to mean your fittest days are behind you. What started as a little Instagram account to share her fitness journey online has become a business focused on empowering women to achieve. Her signature coaching program MACROS 101 has helped over 5,000 women use the tool of macro counting to build a nutrition plan that's both effective and enjoyable. Amber also created a Transformational Fitness Coach certification that teaches other health and fitness coaches how to improve client results by getting to the root of their problems. Amber loves chocolate and peanut butter (preferably together), lifting heavy weights at CrossFit, and hanging out at the beach with her family.   Hard Clients are Better Than Easy Ones Not one to shy away from a challenge, Amber enjoys seeking out clients who struggle to get results. This is the result of trying out numerous coaching styles and working with many different clients over the years. Now, she finds further satisfaction in helping other coaches learn how to dig deep with their clients rather than just dismissing them when they fail to achieve. While working this way takes more effort than simply working with easy clients, Amber sees it as an essential part of her success. It has forced her to become a more involved and informed coach, something that people seek out.   Helping Clients Help Themselves Perhaps one of the more frustrating parts of coaching is seeing clients repeatedly sabotage their own progress. Amber explains how she approaches this by starting with the root of the problem. Instead of addressing the symptom, she helps clients examine their beliefs, some of which may be standing between them and their goals. Interestingly, Amber finds this process is easier in group settings. This may be because it is easier to see things in other people than in yourself. Once you recognize something familiar in others, it is relatively simple to apply it to your own experience.  Group coaching can seem daunting. However, Amber sees a lot of value in it. To that end, she shares some practical advice on how to coach a group of people effectively. This includes embedding coaching within teaching, seeking out similar clients, and truly understanding who your ideal client is. Who is your ideal coaching client? Leave a comment on the episode page!   In This Episode Why working with difficult clients can be good business [11:05] Helping clients avoid self-sabotage by getting to the root causes of their beliefs [20:40] Managing group calls and sessions so they stay organized and effective [36:00] Why developing your skills as a coach is more important than marketing [46:40] What is the coach's responsibility for their clients' results [51:40]   Quotes “Being able to see people go through a transformation never gets boring.” [10:59] “We, as professionals, have to be able to give good solid scientifically-based recommendations and be able to back it up by helping clients overcome the mental blocks that prevent them from accepting that scientific information and using it in their own journey.”[18:11] “The reason my program took off was not because I was a great marketer. It was because I was a great coach.” [47:17] “Allow clients to have their individual definition of success. It doesn't have to be your definition of success.” [1:02:06]   Review Fed and Fearless on Apple Podcasts! There are certain ideas and ideals that are tied to what “healthy” actually means; we think that in order to be healthy, women need to be a certain weight, follow a certain diet, and hit certain fitness and wellness goals. But those ideals can actually put unnecessary pressure on women. Thinking you need to live up to these strict, and often inaccurate, ideals in order to be “healthy” can take a toll, both mentally (in the form of anxiety or self-criticism) and physically (in the form of exhaustion or pushing things too hard). The truth is, when it comes to women's health, there's no one-size-fits-all definition—and these persistent stereotypes of what “healthy” means might actually be preventing women from being their healthiest (and happiest!) selves. On today's episode Cody, Jess and their amazing guest Amber Brueseke,  a well-known Fitness Trainer and owner of the account @biceps.after.babies on IG, talk about some of the most common stereotypes about women's health—and paint a more realistic, accurate picture of what a healthy woman looks like. The word entrepreneur has a unique connotation for each person, but we tend to interpret it as freedom. Being an entrepreneur means building a foundation today of where we want to go tomorrow, the real question lies in whether everyone has the skills to become one or not. In this episode, Jill interviews Amber Brueseke (Biceps After Babies) and Amber explains with details what she's done to start and scale her business to 7-Figures.   “I will be the first to admit I'm a much better coach today than I was then. I was still able to get people results because I showed up in a way that was all about the client and not all about me.” – Amber Brueseke   Amber's own story of understanding macros and calories was the inspiration to start coaching others; her first clients were simply family and friends. Amber highlights that you need to earn the right to have more clients by serving who's already with you and instead of focusing on ‘the right formula,' try to comprehend what your client needs. By getting other people results, you will get results for yourself and the dream of a successful business will only be a matter of time.   “At some point you do have to decide that your vision and what you want is more important than the fear that comes up when you let go of the money.” – Amber Brueseke about business investments.   Jill is a fitness professional and business coach who effectively made the transition from training clients in person and having no time to build anything else to training clients online and actually being more successful. Today is a big celebration because this is Episode 100. And it's kind of funny how we play such meaning on numbers like even round numbers like 100. But we do, and it's a significant milestone, and I'm so excited that you're here for it.  In Biceps After Babies Radio Podcast, we put a lot of effort into it, and we put a lot of time into it to be able to benefit you guys. Like it's free content for you to be ready to get started with your fitness journey. And plenty of people have been able to just listen to, and be able to start and execute and reach some of their goals. You can glean what you need to from the podcast that makes me so incredibly happy. But it makes me so excited that somebody can come to the podcast and can glean things from the podcast and be able to start and continue and reach the transformation that they're wanting.  And so that's really what we wanted to share today was those stories of listeners who have the podcast that has made a difference in their life. So if you skipped those episodes or haven't listened to those episodes, you can go back and re-listen and maybe have some of the transformations or have the insight or the spark that the person looking had that really helped them in their journey.  So without further ado, let's hear some of your stories listeners have biceps after babies.  Andrea Milner Andrea shared some of her quick little background and how the podcast made a considerable focus and difference for her. Especially after having the surgery that she had, she can't believe how much she’s lost in that area and how much it's improved. She did not see results until she started tracking my macros. She felt like there's hope now, and once she made that big change, that's it, it's like instantly, and her metabolism feels like it has gone through the roof. It's been awesome for her. It has been a complete game-changer in her life. The podcasts have made such an impact on her life and they have been such a huge help for her. She just really enjoyed them and the wealth of knowledge is amazing and so easy to understand the way Amber breaks things down. Grab the: Episode 79 Shownotes &  Episode 62 Shownotes      Andrea Scalzo She talks about this concept of reversing and maintenance which is a recurring theme that I hear from you guys that it's something that you had never learned about, right we learn a lot about cutting, we learn a lot about fat loss, we learn a lot about going on diets for a lot of our life. And for a lot of women, that's where they stay. It's always about eating less. It's always about trying to lose weight. And what happens when you take that next step of reversing and focusing on unintentional maintenance.   Andrea did gain so much knowledge about what it was and by the time her cup was ending, and she felt confident enough to use Amber's free flow charts and things like that to plan out her reverse. And her reverse was a success. Now she’s continuing to up her calories every week and maintain her weight while continuing to get stronger making her feel so good. And now she’s able to help others and point them in this direction.   Laura Home Next up is Laura, who had an amazing transformation. She openly shares that in the beginning, it was all about the numbers that aren't magic that she’s figuring out. That they always seem to come at a time and that was where she was on her journey. Like about reverse and about bumping up cardio. One of her biggest aha moments was how Amber talked about fat loss and not just weight loss. It's been a huge part of her macro journey that she has been.    Madelynn Oliver Madelynn's story is that she took the free content, she cooked the free content and she applied it and because of that, she's able to create big things in her life. Madelynn highlighted that if others can do it so she can also do it despite being diabetic. And she always bears in her mind that there are no perfect macros because the perfect macros are the ones that you can stick to.  There’s also no good or bad food and getting a 100% commitment in whatever you do is a must. Biceps after Babies podcast has been a life-changing for her, that it’s not a diet, after all, it’s a lifestyle.  And she also shared a piece of advice for somebody that is wanting to track macros that she missed, is to make sure that you're taking your pictures and measurements from day one. It would be so much fun to put those pictures side by side, or compare measurements and to see how far I have come. Grab the: Episode 03 Shownotes   Patty Campbell So Patty’s aha moment came from Episode 97: Results without perfection by Kasey. She thinks that she related to Kasey so much, because she’s also someone who's done so many other programs that just weren't sustainable, and she wasn't successful at so she started to actually believe that there's nothing that she’s going to be able to stick with. So as Patty is listening to Kasey talk about falling down and trying to get back up again and being a perfectionist and all that stuff, she relates to that, as well as being a working mom with kids.  In that podcast, Kasey talked about being a perfectionist and what's the point of doing something if you’re not going to be perfect, and that's exactly how Patty felt when it came to macros. Self-sabotage came from and that all or nothing mentality. So listening to Kasey’s story and saying that I can do this, and I don't even have to be perfect.  Patty felt something amazing. And that kind of got her thinking like, that's exactly me. She thinks that if she just sticks to it a little bit better, and recognizes that she can do this and be perfect, it doesn't have to happen, then she will reach her goals and be so successful. And Kasey’s story really, really changed Patty’s perspective on being able to actually be successful with macro counting. Grab the: Episode 97 Shownotes   Sarah Clark Sarah shared about how helpful it was for her, not just about how to reverse diet but just so much of how our metabolisms can adapt, and eating more food fuels our bodies, and creates the change that we really truly want to see in our bodies, along with training smart. She feels more confident. She feels more in control of her food choices as well as the freedom in her food choices.  She also finds the podcast episode on reverse dieting so informative and so helpful for her during her process. Biceps after Babies podcast episodes really have truly been so educational for her and helped shift her way of thinking as far as fitness and nutrition goes. She enjoys living this healthier lifestyle for herself and for her kids and her husband. For her, it's just such a different way of thinking and a different way of living.  And that this really does work and you just have to trust the process. Grab the: Episode 09 Shownotes   Millie Millie led us through what she really liked about the podcast and that was the ability to learn not just the nutritional aspect, but to learn about the mental aspect and she really enjoyed your biceps after babies podcast.  And that was a game-changer for her. Now that she has set her goals the way she was taught how to set goals with, you know what the main outcome goal is, the process goals, to take, and all of those things that I have been just implementing into my life. It has been so crucial in changing her life, her mindset and just providing extra motivation for her to live the best healthy version of herself.   There you have it, our  Episode 100. I'm throwing confetti, you can't see me right now but I'm throwing confetti into the air and celebrating this big milestone that we've been able to achieve together.  And again, if you are new to that podcast, welcome, I'm so glad that you're here. If you are an OG and you're from back in Episode Number one, I'm so glad that you're still along for the ride. My goal for anybody listening is for you to be able to set and hit and achieve whatever goal it is that you have and if I can be a part of that whether by biceps after radio, whether by following me on Instagram, or whether by joining Macros 101, then I'm just honored to be able to be a part of your journey.  So thank you for listening. Thank you for sharing. Thank you for supporting the podcast and supporting me and most of all, thank you to these seven women who were willing to share their story and share how biceps after babies radio has been a part of their journey.    bicepsafterbabies.com/waitlist

Amber Brueseke is @Biceps.after.Babies.  We had such a great conversation around motivation, strength training for women, mental toughness and more. She writes on her site: "I'm a CERTIFIED PERSONAL TRAINER, a FITNESS INSTRUCTOR, and a REGISTERED NURSE, but first and foremost I am a mom of four. I am a goal-setting girl boss who can't imagine a world without chocolate and peanut butter (combined, preferably). Most days you can find me trying to balance my life: keeping a clean house, making healthy meals for my family, and shuttling my kids to cubscouts and gymnastics, all while serving in my church, reading uplifting literature, and raising responsible citizens. It can be exhausting to keep all the balls in the air! But I know how important it is to recharge with some me time. When I get my sweat on, throw some heavy weights around, and fuel my body with the right nutrition, I’m a better wife, mom, sister, and friend. There’s no reason why you or your body goals should be pushed to the back burner because you’re a mom with a bajillion responsibilities. I work with moms who need to jump start their fitness goals, from losing fat, gaining muscle, or simply developing a better relationship with food. I can teach you how to get a rockin’ body that you’ll love at every stage of life, whether you’re a twenty-something professional or a grandmother of 12." Today, I'm going to talk  a little bit about my business and in a way that I haven't shared a ton about on the podcast. As my business has grown and as I've been able to serve more clients and as I've been able to build up a team, it has been such an amazing ride and amazing roller coaster, something I never ever thought that I would do. And because so many of you guys are curious, and wanting more information about business, I thought I would bring you an episode that I did on my mentor’s podcast. In this episode, that aired almost a year ago, I share a little about my journey and where I started and I share what some of that growth has looked like in the first 4 years of business. My hope with sharing this episode is to inspire those who are considering entrepreneurship or who are in the middle of growing a business. I want you to be able to find yourself in my story, and I want to be able to tell you that it's worth it! Find show notes at bicepsafterbabies.com/86

Amber Brueseke started the Instagram name Biceps After Babies with no intentions of monetizing it. She started it to show other women you can indeed get biceps after babies! She truly wanted to create impact and provide value. What grew from it is something she honestly did not expect. She self taught herself how to track macros and through that, began helping other people transform their bodies through macros! We talked about what freedom she has found through macros and the balance it has created in her life. Amber also talked about her journey of bulking for a whole year, eating 300 carbs a day. Such a good message for women to hear along with the progressive overload/pros and cons of cross fit.  Amber is also a fellow podcaster, so flowing with her was so effortless.   Amber's Podcast: Biceps after Babies Radio   Connect with us on Instagram Host Brad Jensen – @thesoberbodybuilder Co-Host Michelle Raines  – @mykeylife Guest Amber Brueseke - @biceps.after.babies Key Nutrition – @keynutrition

Does it seem right  that when you have children you suddenly lose your sleep, your free time, your sanity and YOUR BODY?  In my naive mind, I thought I would say good-bye to my pre-baby body for nine months while I was pregnant and then life would go back to normal. HA! I am still searching for that body. I hope someday I find it. Maintaining a healthy weight and healthy lifestyle is a constant battle in the busy lives of mothers.  Too often we are trying so hard and it is easy to get discouraged when the number on the scale is not reflecting our hard work.  This episode is going to help women accept their bodies NOW. We don’t have to wait for that “someday” when we finally fit in our skinny jeans from college.  In this episode, we talk to Amber Brueseke. She is a certified personal trainer, a fitness instructor, a registered nurse and most importantly a mother of four kids. She gives great advice about improving your body image, setting attainable health goals and how to avoid letting the scale rule you. Here is what we talked about: Amber's family Why Amber started the website Biceps After Babes Having a positive body image The importance of taking care of yourself to set an example for your kids Things you can do now to love your body Identify your thoughts and change the story in your mind Indifference, when it comes to loving your body, is not a bad thing. How to maintain a healthy lifestyle without letting it control you. What the number on the scale means to you. Defining success in different ways, not just hitting the prepregnancy weight. Setting behavioral goals. Setting a goal that you can control. Where to start when starting a health plan How to maintain LONG TERM healthy habits What are Macros. (carbs, fat and protein) The first step is establishing small habits you can add to. Matt and Scott interview SSOC clients Amber and Taylor Bruseke. Taylor is a surgeon specializing in pelvic floor issues. Amber is a former fitness instructor who discovered strength training after teaching Zumba, body pump, and other classes for years. She grew frustrated with her physique which, despite the years of teaching exercise classes, did not change much. After discovering Starting Strength via Mark Rippetoe's interview with Mike Matthews on the Muscle for Life Podcast, she got strong and developed the muscular yet feminine look she had been looking for.   Similarly, Taylor transformed his body after medical school by gaining over 40 pounds of muscular bodyweight and getting MUCH stronger in the process. He took his squat from around 70lbs to over 360lbs in about one year with SSOC. The increased strength improved his stamina during surgery, and also improved his confidence commanding the operating room. Interestingly, he also noticed improved motor skills during awkward surgical procedures.   Amber is very active on Instagram as @biceps.after.babies and now offers nutrition coaching for women at Biceps After Babies on Linktree.   Taylor is also on IG @muscle.after.medschool.
