Gleichzeidich hadd mir die lange Greadiefbause a erlaubd, drüwer wegzumdeusch, dass ich im Momend blos a Abbendix bin. Däs is kä fränngischer Gallier, sondern der Wurmvordsadz vo unnerm Blindarm. Üwerflüssich, für nix guud und a noch lässdich, weil, wenner was hadd, nacherd brauchder a noch Aufmerksamkeid. Also bin ich känner vo denne putzich liemswerdn, gallischn Supperheldn. Was ich ja a gern mach. Ned umsonsd is ennes vo mein Liewlingsdischörds sozumsach a Subberheldnfänschörd. "Hammersbald" der (fränggisch)nordische Godd der Ungeduld. Bassd normalerweise ganz gud zu mir und auf mich. Geduld is nämmlich ungefähr des Gechndeil von enner Subberheldnfähichkeid, wo in mir schlummern dud. Also wennse schlummerd, isses höchsdns so a Ard Dorrnröschenschlåf, bloß diefer und länger. Gud drei Monadde sin edz scho vorbei, seid mein drecks Unfall. Hörd sich wie a dumms Gebabbl a? Isses awer ned. Blos dummerweise liechd all des nimmer in menner Hand. Ich muss wardd. Eefach wardd. Und während dem ganzn gewardd a noch damid leeb, dass alles, was ich mach unendlich langsam, umschdändlich und damid wenich befriedichnd is. Glebbds mer, des is meine ganz brivåde Hölle. Edz is des vo ausn ziemlich schö worrn. Black-Led Organizations (BLOs) are organizations led by an Executive Director and have a majority of full-time employees identifying as African American. BLOs face challenges (e.g., limited funding, diminished agency, exploitation) which can be explained through the framework of racialization. In this episode, Dr. Greg Wilson discusses his research paper titled “An Invisible Impediment to Progress: Perceptions of Racialization in the Nonprofit Sector” that analyzes racialization of BLOs in Madison, Wisconsin. Dr. Greg Wilson is an Assistant Professor at The Ohio State University, a previous IRP Graduate Research Fellow, and previous IRP Dissertation Fellow. He is interested in understanding how, why, and in what ways the nonprofit sector is racialized and how this system impacts the work of nonprofits led by people of color, particularly those led by African Americans. “The father carries the separation function which is very important in terms of progressive differentiation from the mother rather than forceful opposition. It rests on something else that I think that we in psychoanalysis don't take seriously enough - though Peter Blos did when he talked about the isogender attachment. The father also has to be an attracting object to the little boy - not just the separating object, but the attracting object. The little boy wants to desire the father and the love of the father - the whole homoerotic connection with the father, wrestling with the father, touching the father's beard - all the beautiful sensual aspects of the male to male relationships that are inherent in the early dyadic father - son relationship.”     Episode Description: We begin by distinguishing analytic data from social and cultural theorizing. Michael walks us through the early history of psychoanalytic understandings of masculine development. He describes the ‘third wave' of conceptualizations to which he contributed. This  recognizes the formative aspect of the mother's relationship with her internalized masculinity and its reverberations towards her son. He discusses the challenge the little boy faces in acknowledging his gender difference from his mother, a task made more manageable by the dependable presence of his dyadically available father. He presents clinical material that demonstrates the power of the homoerotic transference/countertransference to “activate” a secure masculine identification. This grows into the discovery of “a man's inherent receptivity” which he is careful to distinguish from female receptivity. We close with his sharing with us a bit of his personal history that has led him to be interested in this work.    Our Guest: Michael J. Diamond, Ph.D., is a Training and Supervising Analyst at the Los Angeles Institute and Society for Psychoanalytic Studies. His major publications are on psychoanalytic technique and analytic mindedness; masculinity, femininity, and gender theory; fathering and the paternal function; trauma and dissociation; hypnosis and altered states; and group processes and social action. Elizabeth Danto and Alexandra Steiner-Strauss’ edited book, Freud/Tiffany: Anna Freud, Dorothy Tiffany Burlingham and The Best Possible School (Routledge, 2018), stands to alter what has become practically an idee fixe about Anna Freud.  Whereas she can seem to exist only in a dyad with her father, she comes to life in this collection, outside of his purview.  We meet the wealthy Dorothy Tiffany (as in stained glass) Burlingham from NYC who settles in Vienna with her children, fleeing a hard marriage, seeking analytic treatment for herself and her family.  In short order, Anna Freud becomes the most important person in her life.  Anna returns Dorothy’s affections and together they embark on many marvelous and groundbreaking psychoanalytic projects. They create the Hietzing School in Red Vienna wherein the seeds for some of the most important psychoanalytic theorizing about children and adolescents are planted.  Anna analyzes Dorothy’s son.  Sigmund Freud analyzes Dorothy who he accepts as a daughter-in-law.  Together these two women form an over 40 year love and professional relationship that included buying a country cottage for weekend sojourns away from it all to creating the Hampstead war nurseries.  Anna helped raise Dorothy’s three kids and Dorothy trained to become an analyst.  Thanks to the wonderful essays in this book, Anna Freud begins to take a new and exciting shape. The book reads like a psychoanalytic who’s who: Erik Erikson, Peter Blos, August Aichorn are all on the scene teaching and advising at Heitzing.  Almost all the students have analytic sessions.  The Dewey method is applied.  We meet Blos before he decides to enter analysis, having fallen into this position.  We meet Erikson before he left his career as an artist to pursue analysis as well. This collection tells the story of a school, the lives it impacted, the intellectual and clinical legacy it generated, but most especially it highlights the libidinous legacy of Freud and Burlingham, who, in finding and loving each other, created new modes of research, innovative forms of clinical education and a variety of radical institutions that have forever changed the way we understand the lives of children.  And I have not even mentioned all the gorgeous photographs sprinkled throughout the text. Tracy D. Morgan is the founding editor and host of NBIP, a psychoanalyst in practice in NYC trained also as a historian, she writes about many things. Learn more about your ad choices. Settle in, royal court, your Kings (of Drink Mountain) have taken the throne! Ben and Josh return to give you all the details on a newish alcoholic beverage that Josh insists is good. Ben just wanted to make fun of it, but as a drink expert, he knows he has to try it. So he just makes fun of Josh instead, as usual. There's also some lazy Braindead Trivia, the return of World Cup chat, and not one, not two, but three of the most insane questions you'll ever hear from Josh. Ben also adds to the fun with quite possibly the worst thing he's ever said on the show. Plus, "ceiling hitters," terrible impressions, and the true director's cut of 'The Wizard.' All brought to you from a relaxing camping environment. So grab the Comfiest Podcast around right now and find out if today's drink is worth your time. PS-There's candy, too!
