It's about living in the present moment and pursuing our passions with purpose and intention. One of the most powerful tools we have for creating a fulfilling life is a bucket list. A bucket list is more than just a list of things to do before you die. It's a tangible life plan that can help us clarify our goals, stay motivated, and live a more meaningful life. It's about designing our lives and building our businesses or careers around what truly matters to us, not the other way around. In this episode, we are joined by Trav Bell, a.k.a. The Bucket List Guy, who shares his insights on creating a life of purpose and adventure. Tune in as we explore the concept of the bucket list and how it can be a roadmap to a more fulfilling life.

Today is ostensibly a conversation about bucket lists, but it is a much deeper, thought-provoking conversation about actually living life, rather than deferring it until you retire, which many people do.  Travis, like myself, started out in the fitness industry many years ago, but has evolved into personal development apace and helping people live their best lives. We discuss Travis' own journey, which started out as a successful Fitness Industry entrepreneur, and the driver to re-invent himself and start living his best life. We then go into the idea of a bucket list and a reverse bucket list, and how to put some structure around those things. People have grown accustomed to putting off happiness and waiting until retirement to pursue their interests. However, if you follow this philosophy, it may already be too late to realize your dreams. To take action now to live a life of purpose and fulfillment, a bucket list may be just what you need.  In this episode of The Mentee Podcast, Trav Bell, coach and speaker known as the "Bucket List Guy," shares his tips on creating a tangible bucket list that will lead to a fulfilling life. Trav discusses the roadblocks that most people face when completing their bucket list and how to overcome them. Here are some power takeaways from today's conversation: Make a bucket list now; don't wait until you're dying. Surround yourself with positive, proactive people. Your career should be a part of your life plan, not the other way around. Add simple, actionable items to your bucket list, not just travel plans. Don't let your resources limit you. [02:05] Becoming the "Bucket List Guy" Trav got his start in the fitness industry as a personal trainer in the early 1990s. He had toxic people in his life at one point, and everything went downhill, leading to mild depression. He then embarked on a personal development journey, eventually working as a motivational speaker and coach. He mentioned having a bucket list in his first talk, hence his moniker. [08:00] Living Life with Intention Trav facilitates a specific exercise when he speaks at events. It's a wake-up call that our time on Earth is finite, and we must act now to achieve our goals and find happiness. Don't wait until you're terminally ill to appreciate life. [17:55] Busy Being Busy We are often so preoccupied with checking off our daily to-do lists that we forget about our bucket lists — the things that bring us joy. Your job should give you the freedom to do whatever you want with your time and money. If you're short on resources, get creative! [21:33] The Myth of the "401(K)" Waiting until retirement to do what you want has become the norm, but this does not have to be your reality. A common misconception is that a bucket list is limited to travel plans or expensive excursions.  You can also use your bucket list to take concrete steps toward learning a new language or instrument. Trav has divided his bucket list into 12 categories, clarifying his objectives. [32:14] A Positive Support System Set an example for others by completing your bucket list. Rather than wasting time or being negative, shine a bright light on those around you. If you're a parent, encourage your children to adopt a positive, proactive attitude. I think that's the holy grail." 13:56 - Being in alignment with our values "Your level of fulfillment and higher emotions is based on how closely in alignment you are with your values. The closer you are, the more authentic that you're being in that space... you have now tapped into your internal flame. Now you no longer need the outside validation." 15:59 - The positive psychology movement "... it concentrates on what a person's strengths weaknesses are, what lights them up, what gives them meaning, purpose, and fulfillment and more gratitude and getting people to do more and incorporate more of that into their work and their life. And that is the cure to mental health right there." 18:20 - Every thought, word and deed "Because when you do what's important to you the most, now you have this fulfillment, and now this flame is lit up and as you go interact with other people out in the world, your very presence gives others the courage to do the same thing and become lit for life. So we not only do it for ourselves, we do it for the brother for the sister for the next person beside us." 21:21 - Reverse engineering your life "More importantly, Harry... it's about the person that exists on the other side and that's the person we don't know yet. People are dying at 40 and being buried at 80. You know, this is not about a midlife crisis, it's kind of like a midlife awakening for most people." 26:38 - Write s*** down! "At the end of the day, get your bucket list out of your head and onto paper. It's funny how the universe God, whoever you want to speak to, finds a way to make this stuff happen." 34:14 - Why we need to find meaning in our lives "It's about the mindset. It's about uncovering those values, but it's also about taking action." 35:56 - Getting out of your own way "There's a difference between merely existing, and actually living and many of us, unfortunately, spend our entire lives trying to meet these obligations. Earning a living is not a living, that's a slow dying... life is much more than earning a living, you've come here to have a full human experience." 39:21 - Are you truly living? "There's always a choice. Anything not growing is dead. And so we should be growing until the day that we die." 43:28 - Be the example "You would never give your your kids advice to not take a risk while they still can... so what the **** are you doing?" 48:35 - A quick recap of The Top 5 Regrets of the Dying“Give yourself permission to be happier. Design happiness, intentionally design and be purposeful about putting happiness into your life more, both into your work and into your life.” 51:04 - Happiness, fulfillment and peace “I think peace is... the lack of cognitive dissonance, its alignments, it's being congruent with your values. That's where it comes from.” If you loved this episode, be sure to subscribe & leave us a review!

Why it is as easy as taking pen to paper to get started on the task. The two discuss the idea of a reverse bucket list and why doing self-reflection is such a powerful tool in helping you develop your bucket list. New Interviews with the World's GREATEST high achievers will be posted every Tuesday with a Momentum Friday inspirational message! What is a Bucket List? A bucket list, also called a life list, is a group of activities that you want to experience or accomplish before you die. We all have some idea about the things we want to do in life, but compiling them into a concrete list can make them a reality. Your bucket list should contain items that are deeply meaningful to you. Don't include items simply because you feel you should or because others would find them impressive. What are your dreams? What brings you fulfillment?  How to Implement Your Bucket List Show Notes Trav Bell introduces his book How Trav built a serial gym franchise The other 23 hours concept How he became the bucket list guy Living congruently to your values What is a reverse bucket list Advice on how to tackle your bucket list The importance of action stacking Creating a contract with yourself Rapid round of questions ENGAGE WITH TRAV BELL As a self-appointed ʻBucket Listologistʼ, Trav has obsessively studied the Bucket List phenomenon & blended the worldʼs best Positive Psychology principles to create his own unique Bucket List Life Philosophy. It was because of all the crazy and interesting things he had done in his life up until then. See, from the age of eighteen – well before Bucket Lists were a ‘thing' – he has written a ‘To Do Before I Die List'. Today, as a forty (something) year-old guy, thanks to The Bucket List movie and the popularity of the concept, they certainly are now. It's a heavily hashtagged and tweeted global phenomenon. His Bucket List is the reason why he attacks life. It's always been his compass, his motivation. It continues to give him purpose and bring meaning into his life. Ignorantly, He thought everyone had a written list like him… apparently not. https://www.thebucketlistguy.com/
