In this episode of The Human Experience, I sit down with Ralph Velasco, a seasoned travel photographer and founder of small group travel experiences. Raised in suburban Chicago, Ralph takes us through his winding career path—from restaurants and real estate to his true calling behind the camera and on the road. We explore how travel can be a powerful vehicle for connection and self-discovery, and how storytelling brings those experiences to life. Whether you're a budding traveler or someone navigating life's turning points, this conversation offers a compelling look at resilience, reinvention, and the beauty of the journey.
What if the one thing keeping you from success isn't lack of skill, strategy, or resources … but your fear of letting go? In this episode of Be the Wolf, we dive deep into the moment every entrepreneur faces … when to take the leap and trust yourself enough to make your passion a full-time business. Ralph Velasco spent plenty of time in jobs and owning businesses that didn't light him up. Because he didn't know how to turn his passion into a business. He walked away from security – not once, but multiple times – until he finally built the business and lifestyle of his dreams. If you've ever felt trapped in a business that no longer excites you … if you're grinding away but never feeling free… or if you've been telling yourself “I just need more time, more money, more stability before I go all in”—this episode is for you. We'll uncover: ✅ The fear that keeps most entrepreneurs stuck—and how to break free ✅ Why waiting for the “right time” is killing your business dreams ✅ The hidden cost of holding onto security (it's more than just money) ✅ How to trust yourself enough to take the leap and make it work Stop settling for a business that drains you when you can have one that fuels you. For more than 14 years Ralph has been organizing small group tours around the world. It began with a photographic focus (Photo Enrichment Adventures), and now he has a new brand called Alla Campagna Experiences, shorter trips, longer stays in one place, and diving into the cultural aspects. This is open to both photographers and non-photographers. The Photo Enrichment Adventures brand does not mean you have to be a pro. It's for anyone who is interested in photography.Ralph shared his new find. Georgia. NO, not the "Georgia" in the US, The Republic of Georgia. Roy and I caught on to that having a friend who just moved there. Ralph says it's the oldest wine culture in the world, and the food is great and very reasonably priced. And where is that? It borders Russia and Turkey. Time to use Google! :)Ralph comes from of background of restaurants, a third-generation restaurateur, so the incorporating of food in the travels is one of the best things. "The reason we travel is to get out of our comfort zone". Ralph does scouting before he brings his groups to a certain place. This is him going on his own, trying everything, meeting everyone, and sharing the best experiences.Ralph is not at all against Smart Phone Photography. In fact, it is less obtrusive and you can get those casual candid shots. As Ralph said, you can give the worst camera to a great photographer and you will still get a better picture than giving a great camera to a not-so-good photographer. We touched upon COVID, and Ralph did agree it had an effect on his business. It didn't stop him from traveling, however, whenever he could.Be ready for a point and shoot mode, with all settings right for the condition. Anticipate the decisive moment then point and shoot. Wingnut Social: The Interior Design Business and Marketing Podcast
How important is good photography for interior design marketing? How important is it for the travel and tourism industry? How do you craft the perfect image that portrays what you see? In this episode of the Wingnut Social podcast, professional photographer Ralph Velasco joins Natalie and Darla to share his expertise.Ralph is a professional travel photographer who’s led over 100 international tours over the last 12 years. He is the founder and CEO of Photo Enrichment Adventures and Alla Campagna. Ralph crafts tours that not only immerse you in another culture, but teaches you how to capture what you see in stunning images. Images sell the experience. People want to know what they will see and experience and great photography is the best way to convey that. Ralph scouts his trips at least a year in advance. He captures photographs, takes video, meets people, stays in the hotels, and eats at the restaurants. Then he picks and chooses the best for his tour groups.Ralph emphasizes that “A travel photographer has to be a jack of all genres, master of some.” Photographers specialize in architecture, people, food, and much more. But a travel photographer has to be good at everything. Photographers are story-tellers. They have to tell the story of a place, a region, or a country. Perhaps you’re telling the story of the interior of a home. To do that, Ralph notes that you want to start with big wide establishing shots. Then take the medium shots that show a portion of the room. Then you dive into the detail shots. The way to differentiate your photography is always in the details. Everyone gets the “postcard” shot. But the people that capture the details in the photos differentiate themselves from everyone else. How do you develop an eye for photography? How do you learn to drill down deeper into the scene and capture the soul of it? Listen to hear Ralph’s advice. Two tips that will transform your photographyRalph jokes that “If you don’t like getting up early, be a writer.” But it’s actually true. Photography is all about taking advantage of the best possible light. In the morning, the sun is low in the sky and you experience golden hour with long soft shadows. Think about how the light impacts your subject and get proper exposure. When you’re photographing something or someone, Ralph advises looking beyond them. How does the background or the foreground impact the photograph? Is there something that will ruin the composition of the photo? Ralph will move around to see how the scene is changing in relation to his subject. He is in control of the scene. He recommends that you place your subject against a clear background whenever possible. People would get 10x better photographs if they cultivated an awareness of the light and the background. Listen to the whole episode for more of Ralph’s tips + tricks. He also shares how his business has transformed and how social media is his #1 marketing stream. Our guest is Ralph Velasco, co-host of the podcast The Traveling Image Makers. Velasco is a photographer extraordinaire who's conducted more than 100 international tours for guests to over 30 countries and counting. He takes great delight in providing photography tips to his guests through his company PhotoEnrichment Adventures. These tours are open to photographers and non-photographers alike. His tours have taken him and his guests to such faraway places as Italy, Spain, Mexico, Cambodia, India, and Costa Rica, to name a few. Velasco has a gift for capturing culture through his photography. He has a special trip slated for late October 2020 to France's Magical Dordogne region where guests will get to stay at a private castle. For details on that special trip go to https://Allacampagna.com. Listen to this podcast as Ralph shares some truly remarkable stories, including that of a little girl in the Copper Canyon region of Mexico who had never seen what she looks like until he presented her with a picture of herself taken three years earlier---even then some of the other Tarahamura people had to tell the little girl, it was her. Their remote village probably had no mirrors or photographers around like Ralph to capture her likeness.
Our co-host Ralph Velasco recently returned from spending a few days at one of the most popular festivals in the world: the Carnival of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. On this week’s episode of the podcast, he shares with us his experience and gives some useful tips for those wanting to partake in it. Antananarivo.

During his latest tour of India, Ralph Velasco took some time to sit down with his friend Bob Edelstein and ask him about his photography and his travels. Here is what Bob says about himself:“I began taking pictures when my older brother came out of the Army. He had purchased a Pentax Spotmatic in the mid 1960’s. I immediately purchased my own camera and was in love with photography from the beginning. I took many courses while in college and started travelling to the Southwest United States where I fell in love with the landscape. Over the years I found portraiture to be very interesting and I really enjoyed the interaction of photographer and subject, which I still enjoy immensely. Currently, I have a real interest in street photography and conveying a lot of elements in my photographs. I really enjoy trying to show the viewer they need to take 30 seconds to look at the image to see all the elements I thought were of interest. I believe now, at age 62, the images I revere most are the ones where I had a personal “moment” with the subject, even if the image is not all that great technically. Those are the moment I seek out now, to be able to connect with someone from a different land, and to have the photographer and subject just share a “moment”.”Duration 34m 08s. Welcome to my new photography podcast!I can already hear some of you say: “Hey, wait a minute, don't you already have a photography podcast?” Well, as a matter of fact I do. It's called The Travelling Image Makers and I co-host that one with my buddy Ralph Velasco. Every week we publish an interview with a travel photographer and we've been doing so for more than 80 weeks. It's a very high production value, very structured podcast and you can count on an episode to be published every week for the foreseeable future. I am definitely not giving up on that, but I wanted something different. I wanted to be able to share something with my followers and my readers whenever I read something in the news, or something that tickles my fancy, or I publish a new article on my website or whenever I think I have something interesting to share. So this is going to be very random and very experimental. I don't plan to spend a lot of time producing and editing and it's going to be recorded in one take and published immediately. I am not going to follow a fixed schedule; you will just be able to find all the episodes at this page and of course also on iTunes, where you will be able to subscribe, if you want to keep listening to what I have to say.Topics covered will include everything that is photography-related with some extensions into travel, which is one of my favourite pastimes. I recently also started developing a keen interest on marketing, especially marketing for creative businesses, like mine, so if you are in my situation, might be interested in what I have to say about this topic. This is just the pilot episode, so no real news to share here. I will probably recording another episode tomorrow, where I will talk about the latest post I published on my website. Stay tuned, all the fun is just about to start! The post Introducing the Ugo Cei Photography Podcast appeared first on Ugo Cei Photography. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
India, often referred to as the sub-continent, is a location one can’t hope to capture adequately in less than a lifetime. TTIM co-host Ralph Velasco just spent a month there, scouting the place for one of his upcoming tours, and he tried to get at least a glimpse of its beauty, amidst the chaos of its cities. We caught up with Ralph while he was in Tokyo, on his way back to the U.S. after a two-month long trip (he’d also led a tour to Vietnam), and we discussed for half an hour his impressions of this great country and of its people. Listen to our conversation if you’d like to know more about India.Duration 31m 38s.We want to hear from you! What are you struggling with in your photography? Alright, my dear listeners, we are at episode 50 of the show, which means I’ve been publishing new episodes every week for almost one full year, never skipping a week.Let me tell you, this is a lot of work, especially since I do it all on my own, from finding and inviting guests, interviewing them, editing the audio, publishing the episode, sharing on social media, the whole shebang! It takes hours of my time every week, but I’m happy to do it, because you seem to love it and because it is working great to put my name out.In addition, it has enabled me to network with some great people. Some of those people I have met personally, some have become long-distance friends and today I want to introduce you to one of them. The reason for this is because, starting today, he is going to co-host the show with me. That not only means being able to share some of the load I mentioned above, but also being able to create new and interesting content and taking the show to new heights. If you have listened to episode 13, you already know this guy, or maybe you already know him by other means, but in any case, please welcome great travel photographer and all-around nice guy, Mr. Ralph Velasco!Travel photography instructor, author and international guide, Ralph has organized and led a variety of cultural tours around the world, including to Egypt, Mexico’s Copper Canyon, Bhutan, Nepal, Cambodia, Iceland, Central Europe, Morocco, Vietnam, the Adriatic, Romania, Turkey, Spain, Death Valley, Chicago and San Francisco and others. Additionally, as of this writing he’s organized and led more than a dozen fully-licensed People-to-People programs to Cuba.Duration 22m 11s.We want to hear from you! If you've been following this podcast for some time, you will have certainly noticed that one of the recurring themes here is that of giving back, of using photography to effect some real change in the world and to benefit the communities that we visit when we travel. This was the central point of Episode 25 with John Butterill, of Episode 14 with Anna Tenne, and of Episode 13 with Ralph Velasco.I was very happy then, when I contacted Darlene Hildebrandt, asking for an interview, and she told me about her involvement with the people of the El Limonal community in Nicaragua. We immediately agreed that our conversation would be focused on that and, more in general, on the various ways in which travel photographers can do more than just come, snap some pictures and leave.Darlene is the creator of Digital Photo Mentor. She has been a professional photographer for over 26 years, and photography educator since 2011. Darlene provides valuable articles on her site, has a free ebook, and offers online photography courses, as well as photography travel tours. Her next tour is to Nicaragua in November where you can participate in giving back to the communities there by working with the locals, and a kids photography group.
