Once a music-obsessed kid dreaming of designing record covers, Chris Law found his rhythm in the world of sneakers. The iconic shoe designer, known by everyone who’s anyone in the sneaker world, shares how hip-hop culture, graphic design, and a love for storytelling led him to work on some of the most famous sneaker designs, ever. “Icons that are so big in the history of sneakers,” including the Adidas Superstar and Converse Chuck Taylor. In this episode, Chris unpacks the heart of sneaker culture — from Portland’s creative scene to global fashion trends — reflecting on the magic of seeing your designs in the real world, and the emotional power shoes carry. He speaks about the evolution of the industry, from boutique stores to collectors, and the growing wave of fashion brands entering the sneaker space. Listen in as Vince and Chris discuss the connection between footwear design, car design and typography, why he believes every brand has a voice, and what it’s like inside his creative process, where sketches, nostalgia, and conversation feed innovation. Loving the Church - The Life Story of Chris Law

From an early age, Chris Law remembers the church being the center of family life, as his parents quietly but faithfully served their local body. This example of selfless, hardworking love shaped his childhood, and after confessing Christ at age six, Chris's love for the church grew. Sensing a calling for pastoral ministry, he attended the Master's College where he met his future wife Jennifer. Once married, Chris selfishly only wanted a small family, but God changed his heart as he grew in faith and reverence for the Scriptures. Chris is now the father of seven and serves as the pastor of Geneva Lakes Church in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin.

Singing Is Spiritual Warfare

Church and Family Life Podcast

Corporate singing as a church is vital to the health and well-being of the body. Through it, we teach and admonish one another, even as we stir up good affections toward God and praise His glorious name. The songs we sing tell us what kind of God we worship and what kind of gospel we're proclaiming. Singing together brings joy to God's people and is one of the most spiritually unifying things that the church ever does. In this podcast, Scott Brown and Trent Moody, joined by special guest Chris Law, discuss how to build vigorous and happy cultures of singing in the local church. Rather than treat corporate singing as a secondary matter, they encourage church shepherds to make it a high priority. This involves carefully shaping the music chosen—which should include “psalms . . . hymns, and spiritual songs” (Col. 3:16)—and calling the whole church body to embrace singing together as a gift to be cultivated for God's glory.

The sun's ramping up its activity and now we have a better idea of what's driving itThis spring we've seen some spectacular displays of northern lights and we're expecting to see  more as we approach the peak of the sun's natural cycle, the solar maximum. Every 11 years the sun cycles from having few sunspots on its surface to having many. Now according to a new study in the journal Nature, scientists have figured out what may be driving this process. Geoff Vasil, an associate professor of computational and applied mathematics at the University of Edinburgh, said instabilities in swirling magnetic systems near the sun's surface gives rise to sunspots on its surface that can erupt and send solar storms our way.Female otters use tools more than males – to crack open tasty treats and save their teethOtters are cute and clever – clever enough to be one of the few animals who use tools such as rocks, glass bottles, or even boat hulls to smash shells and access the tasty flesh inside. But researchers studying otters off the coast of California found that certain otters were using these tools more than others, and wanted to understand why. In a new study, published in the journal Science, research biologist Chris Law found that it was females that were using the tools more than the males, in order to access hard-shelled meals like clams and mussels without damaging their teeth. The longest lasting human species (not us) were expert elephant huntersOur cousins, Homo Erectus, inhabited Earth for nearly two million years, and they were capable hunters. An analysis of stone tool manufacturing sites, published in the journal Archaeologies, gives new insight into the high levels of organization and planning by these early humans. Tel Aviv University archeologist Meir Finkel studied the ancient stone quarries in the Hula Valley, and discovered that they were often located on elephant migration routes near water sources – so the humans didn't have far to go to get weapons for slaying and butchering their meals. This triad of elephants, water and stone quarries is present across many Old Stone Age sites where the early humans lived, including South America, Africa and Europe. A plastic that carries the seeds of its own destructionResearchers have been able to integrate spores of a plastic-eating bacteria into plastic to create a material that, over time, eats itself. In a controlled study, scientists found that the bacteria can break down 90 per cent of the soft plastic in the material in about 90 days. Mohammed Arif Rahman, a senior polymer scientist and R&D director of BASF, said they're still working on it with hopes that the bacteria embedded within it will be able to keep on consuming the remaining plastic so as not to generate any microplastics. The proof of concept study was published in the journal Nature Communications. A new book about gravity celebrates failing and fallingWhen theoretical physicist Claudia de Rham didn't quite make the cut as an astronaut candidate, she doubled down on her fascination with the phenomenon of gravity. This puts her on the path of great thinkers like Newton and Einstein who helped us to start to understand what holds the universe together. In a new book, The Beauty of Falling: A life in pursuit of gravity, she ties her personal adventures with her theoretical explorations of gravitational rainbows and the origins of dark matter, and details all the mysteries that still remain about this fundamental feature of reality.

Should interpreting the Bible be left to the “experts”? While certain high-minded scholars have argued this, the Scriptures plainly direct fathers and mothers to train their children up in the ways of God—and this can only happen by them carefully reading His word and explaining it.   In this podcast, Scott Brown and Jason Dohm, joined by guest Chris Law, encourage parents to actively read and discuss the Scriptures with their children, and they offer some helpful interpretive keys to use. The first is context: who is the author of a particular book addressing, where is he located, and what is he speaking about? Other principles: clear texts interpret unclear texts; specific texts interpret general texts; and literal texts interpret figurative texts. They also urge parents to not miss the big picture, but to make it their chief aim to show their children how great and wonderful God is whenever they open His word.   Check out our book "Journey through the Bible"

Unbelievably, after a four-year run, this is the last-ever incarnation of "The Rich Eisen Podcast." Frequently, in this business, shows like this don't end at the host's request or behest. Usually, shows named after the host come to an abrupt close when the host is shown the door by security while holding office belongings in a cardboard box.    Thankfully, the reason why I'm shuttering this podcast after four wonderful years is because it's turning into a daily three-hour TV show airing on DirecTV's Audience Channel No. 239 and streaming live on the latest venture brought to you by NFL Media, the NFL Now app. NFL Now is also the home to the video archive of the show, which will also be available in audio podcast form on Podcast One as well as iTunes and virtually every other place you've been able to download this program over its lifespan. Best of all for our listeners, NFL Now is internationally available too.   It's truly exciting news for your humble host and my podcast compadres Chris Law and Chris Brockman, who are traveling with the show's move to a bigger and broader platform.   I started this podcast at the outset of the 2010 season because I thought there was a space in which to connect with the NFL Network fan base and have a conversation about the NFL and the entertainment world in one sitting. And I was rewarded with four years of stupendous football chatter involving fascinating figures from the gridiron and guests from across the TV, movie and music spectrum. Best yet, it did in fact get me closer to myriad football fans worldwide. I can not thank you enough for your passionate listenership. Please follow the show with us into the new horizon. Chris Law and Jason Wormser  52 weeks a year The Rich Eisen Podcast discusses the ins and outs of the greatest game in the world with some of the biggest names from the gridiron, the silver-screen and beyond. This week the #REP strays a bit from its pigskin coverage to bring a first-hand account of a story that gripped the nation, nay the world last week. Podcast producer Chris Law was aboard US Airways flight 598 last week when man's (alleged) “best-friend' caused the aircraft to emergency land mid-flight.  His live-tweeting of the event made international, yes international headlines. So what exactly happened 30,000 feet up? Law recalls the full, unfiltered account of the near thirteen hour flight to both Rich Eisen and Chris Brockman to kick off this week's show.   Up next, Fox Soccer VP of Programming Jason “The Worm” Wormser returns to the show after a long hiatus. The former NFL Network senior producers discusses with the crew some of the offseason NFL storylines and then previews the upcoming 2014 FIFA World Cup, which begins next week in Brazil. 2014 NFL Schedule Release with John Elway and Jim Nantz... The 2014 NFL season kicks off with a rematch of one of the more infamous games in NFL history. Aaron Rodgers and the Packers look to avenge their loss in the "Fail Mary" game when they head to the Pacific Northwest to take on Russell Wilson and the defending Super Bowl champion Seahawks.  What a way to kick off the 2014 season, right? And that's only a small sample of what the folks in the NFL scheduling department have served up for the 2014 schedule, which now includes 16 Thursday Night Football games that will air on both CBS and NFL Network.  Rich Eisen, along with producers Chris Law and Chris Brockman, take a full look at the entire 2014 schedule and talk about some of the new broadcast rules, including the NFL's ability to flex schedule Sunday Night Football games as early as week 5 and what the newly announced "cross-flexing" means for viewers on Sundays.    Broncos EVP of football operations John Elway then joins Rich to break down Denver's 2014 schedule.  The slate welcomes Andrew Luck and the Colts to Mile High for the Broncos' season opener, plus a Super Bowl XLVIII rematch with Seattle in Week 3. Eisen then says "hello friend" to Jim Nantz, who takes over the play-by-play commentary on the new-look "Thursday Night Football" package on which NFL Network and CBS have partnered. Eisen and Nantz examine the entire TNF schedule, which includes an unprecedented 14 divisional rivalry games this year.   Enjoy, and as always, thanks for downloading! Marlon Wayans, Colin Hanks, Daniel Jeremiah and Bucky Brooks... We are now in the homestretch leading up to the start of NFL Draft on Thursday May 8 in beautiful New York City and Radio City Music Hall, which we we've noted here on the show and producer Chris Law recently found out on his site survey, hasn't changed since it became a landmark in 1978. And as we inch closer to the big day, us here at The Rich Eisen Podcast are doing our part to help you all weed through the unnamed sourced and faceless information that's out there. This week, that starts with the help of NFL Media Draft experts Daniel Jeremiah and Bucky Brooks, who decipher the intel and discuss the top prospects with our humble host, Rich Eisen. Next, comedian and actor Marlon Wayans, whose new film “Haunted House 2” hits theaters nationwide this Friday, stops by to chat growing up in a comedic family, what it's like being both a Steelers and Dolphins fan from New York City, and even takes a selfie with the guys. Finally, friend of the podcast Colin Hanks comes in studio to discuss his new FX drama “Fargo,” how life has been since his last appearance spawned the What Type Of Stepfather That Coach Would Make, and he even helps the guys sort through the final entries of the New Open Contest. Actor Kevin Costner joins Rich Eisen in studio for this week's edition of “The Rich Eisen Podcast.” Costner, who has starred in a handful of the greatest sports movies of all-time, is back at tackling the sports genre again in his latest film “Draft Day.” The two-time Academy Award winner traded in his wooden bat and ball cap for a suit and seat in the front office in “Draft Day,” where he plays Sonny Weaver Jr., the fictional general manager of the Cleveland Browns. Shot partially on location at New York's Radio City Music Hall during the 2013 NFL Draft, the film takes place over a 16-hour period during the first round of the 2014 NFL Draft. Costner talks with Rich about why he chose to do another sports movie and what it was that drew him to the project, which was directed by last week's #REP guest, Ivan Reitman. Costner also shares some incredible stories along the way from sets of his previous films like “Bull Durham,” “Field of Dreams,” “Dances with Wolves” and more. It's a fascinating listen with one of Hollywood's finest actors, and be sure to check out “Draft Day” in theatres this Friday, April 11. The show rounds out with a little #REP housekeeping from Eisen and producers Chris Law and Chris Brockman. What triggered one of the guys to get into a Twitter feud over the weekend with a country music singer during the Final Four? Which of the listener-submitted entries for the show-open contest was the most impressive? Also not to be missed: his new movie “Elysium” in a theater near you. Go see it. Tune in tonight to the "Rich Eisen Combine Special" on NFL Network at 930 pm ET to see my chats with Broncos Executive Vice President and Hall of Fame QB John Elway, Colts head coach Chuck Pagano and Rams head coach Jeff Fisher and watch Super Bowl champion and future Hall of Famer Ed Reed roam the red carpet of the Oscars and rub elbows with Hollywood's A-listers.   But first, we invite you to please download and listen to the audio podcast companion to the Combine Special right here. This edition of the podcast contains the full-length interviews with Elway, Pagano and Fisher but starts with my post-Combine chat with NFL Network's top talent evaluators and analysts Mike Mayock and Charles Davis. I sat down with them on the NFL Network set on the Lucas Oil Field fan concourse literally moments after the final on-field drill of the 2013 NFL Scouting Combine was held. Whose draft stock improved and whose did not? Which player might go first overall? How did the weeks of Manti Te'o and Tyrann Matthieu go? Mike and Charles explain all before we get to Elway, Pagano and Fisher.   Then, the show emanates from Los Angeles, taped the day after the Combine and the very day the Combine Special debuts. TV podcast producer Chris Brockman takes the floor and regales us with stories from hanging on the Academy Awards red carpet with the stupendous Ed Reed. Who did Ed chat up? Who did he miss out on? Who was the best dressed? Chris recalls all as poor audio podcast producer Chris Law phones in from the Indianapolis airport as he makes a weather-delayed trek back home. I also give you some behind the scenes stories from the Combine and especially from my annual 40-yard dash to glory.   Enjoy the show and enjoy the TV special! Troy Aikman, Joe Montana and Steven Soderbergh First up is the three-time Super Bowl champion quarterback of the Dallas Cowboys, Troy Aikman, who shares his take on how the Baltimore Ravens edged the San Francisco 49ers to become Super Bowl XLVII champions.   Aikman also discuss what he thinks the future holds for both Colin Kaepernick and Joe Flacco. If a three time Super Bowl champion wasn't enough for you, Rich then dials up four-time Champion and three time Super Bowl  MVP, Joe Montana, who shares the Bay area perspective on how the 49ers franchise will handle its first Super Bowl defeat in six appearances.   Up next is Academy Award winning director, Steven Soderbergh, who is the REP's resident media critic.  Soderbergh phones in to give his critique of the NFL Network and CBS coverage of Super Bowl XLVII, as well as which commercials were hits and which were misses. The Oscar winning director confirmed to Rich Eisen that his upcoming film "Side Effects" will be the final theatrically released movie (Behind The Candelabra - HBO) of his impressive directing career. Rod Woodson, Carson Daly and "Guest Who" Following a pair of conference championship games which saw Colin Kaepernick and the San Francisco 49ers defeat the Atlanta Falcons, and a Ray Lewis-led Baltimore Ravens squad avenge last year's loss to the New England Patriots, the stage is set for Super Bowl XLVII in New Orleans.  To discuss the big matchup between the Ravens and 49ers, Rich dials up Hall of Fame defensive back Rod Woodson, a member of the Baltimore Ravens squad that won Super Bowl XXXV in 2001.  Rich and Rod discuss the Kaepernick factor and how his speed and ability to throw effectively could prove to be a challenge for Lewis, Ed Reed and the Ravens' defense.  Woodson also discusses the emergence of Joe Flacco down the stretch and the troubles he presents Patrick Willis and the vaunted 49ers' defense.   "Last Call: With Carson Daly" brought their show to the NFL Network studio this week to interview Rich for an upcoming episode. Afterwards, we sat down with Carson to find out what he's been up to since his last visit to the REP one year ago.  Carson is one of the all-time good guys in the business and has found great success with his hit NBC show, "The Voice", which as you'll find out the upcoming season, has a bizarre tie-in to the Manti Te'o girlfriend hoax that has unfolded in recent days. And finally, the show rounds out with the highly anticipated "Guest Who" segment that podcast producer Chris Law has had in the works for a few weeks.  We can't tell you who the mystery guest is, but just know that you'll thoroughly enjoy listening to a befuddled Rich Eisen as Law and fellow producer Chris Brockman enjoy a laugh. Stay tuned next week for our big "Rich Eisen Super Bowl Special Podcast" featuring an all-star guest list as well as some of the key players who will be participating in Super Bowl XLVII on Feb. 3.
