In addition to her successful retail business, Kiki recently ventured into children's literature with her book Lila Says No, cleverly illustrated by Aileen Bennett. Her passion for beauty and creativity extends beyond retail, as seen on her vibrant Instagram page, where she shares colorful and inspirational table settings for various events. Kiki, an Opelousas native, has strong ties to the Lafayette community. She is the sister of Marilyn Castle, retired 15th JDC judge, and Joan Dubuisson of Cox Business. She graduated from UL-Lafayette with degrees in Art History and English, initially intending to become an art teacher before discovering her passion for advertising and retail. Her career has been a fascinating journey, including stints as a nightclub singer in New Orleans, a radio advertising executive, and an ad agency owner. Working alongside advertising legend George Graham, Kiki honed her skills in creative writing and marketing, ultimately paving the way for her entrepreneurial success. Kiki opened her boutique in River Ranch after gaining invaluable retail experience from Molly Flanagan, owner of Molly's. She and her daughter, Katie, built the business together, expanding to Baton Rouge and establishing Kiki as a premier shopping destination. A life-changing car accident in 2007 prompted Kiki to embrace retail fully, leaving advertising to focus on her boutique. She and Katie meticulously designed the store, ensuring an elevated shopping experience comparable to high-end retailers in New York and beyond. Kiki says, "We knew we wanted to do something nice. We didn't want it to be a hodgepodge of display cases and just thrown together. We really wanted it to be the nicest store in Lafayette. "We had a vision of doing jewelry with designers in mind so that every case was dedicated to a designer. The handbags were displayed one on a shelf to make it seem really special so that everything seemed a little elevated. That worked when people walked in the store. Also, with most merchandise, if you don't turn it, you got to put it on sale, you've got to get rid of it, you got to turn. But jewelry isn't like that. We could have an expensive piece of jewelry and it could be there for two years, and then someone comes in and and buys it. So you don't have to discount quite as much. The same thing with perfume." Beyond retail, Kiki has made a mark in the Lafayette community. She played a crucial role in the development of Lafayette's downtown playground, recognizing its value in revitalizing the area. Her passion for community enrichment continues to shape her contributions to the city's cultural and economic landscape. Kiki's love for creativity extends to her personal life, where she enjoys setting stunning tablescapes for family gatherings. Her collections of fine china and linens reflect her impeccable taste and appreciation for beauty. Her foray into children's literature has been met with great enthusiasm. Lila Says No is resonating with parents and educators, with notable endorsements from child psychologist Carolyn Helm. The book received a glowing review rom Kirkus as "quirky and entertaining, with a kid and parent-savvy message." Kiki's deep admiration for children's literature and her collection of over 500 books inspired her to finally write her own story, with more books potentially on the horizon. Though retired from store ownership, Kiki remains an integral part of Kiki, still attending market trips and influencing the store's aesthetic.

Cox Business has invested more than $15 billion in infrastructure, and has committed to invest another $10 billion over the next several years. The company is currently focused on how to provide the same and seamless office experience whether it is in-person or online. Workplace stress and job strain is a leading cause of suicide for many people. In this week's podcast, host Neal Bloom talks with Melani Gordon, program director at Techstars, and Jennifer Exum, president of JRE Career Consulting, on grappling with mental health issues and how to help the startup community through resources and therapy.  Before we introduce the guests, we want to share the National Suicide Prevention Hotline 1-800-273-8255. Back to our guests — Melani is an avid supporter of providing resources and support for mental health issues. She has her own history of losing her younger brother to suicide, and wants to change the stigma of talking about mental health and going to therapy. She is very active in helping certain communities where she can, and recently joined board for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention in Nevada. Jen has worked in human resources in San Diego for 15 years, and has consistently helped startups in the tech space. She pivoted her HR skills to become a career coach, and helps people talk about work challenges and find an appropriate place for them. She is constantly learning how to take care of others while also making sure she is focusing on self-care for herself.  The pandemic hit Melani's company Evergreen, heavily, and she was forced to reorganize her company and let people go. As she faced her own burnout, she realized she had nothing left to give, and needed support of her own. Jen was already part of Melani's team prior to COVID-19, and was aware of the necessary changes that needed to be made. She coached people who were leaving and helped them in their career transition and with therapy. Thanks to the investment Melani made in making sure her employees had a therapist,, she was able to provide resources for those going through a hard situation. In 2019, more than $399 billion was spent on “bad meetings,” emphasizing the severity of this issue. To combat this, Chuck Phillips, co-founder of MeetWell, created a low-lift solution that emphasizes healthy meeting practices, making sure organizers are accountable for their preparation for an efficient meeting.  Phillips grew up in Visalia, CA, where he got his start in tech by buying coding books and teaching himself backend programming. Initially, he planned to graduate with a computer science degree at UC San Diego, but when he met fellow Triton Doug Hecht, he decided to drop out of school to co-found technology services agency, Console. Phillips and Hecht saw huge success, and merged with Digitaria to offer frontend features, eventually growing large enough to be acquired by WPP. After leaving Digitaria, Phillips joined forces with Hecht on a new startup called Lymber, which was a consumer-focused application that was powered by dynamic pricing algorithms for fitness courses. Within a year, the company was acquired by Mindbody, where Phillips worked for three years. Although he enjoyed the purpose-driven work and the people he met at Mindbody, Phillips felt dissatisfied with the constant meetings that lacked efficient productivity. The time spent on poorly executed meetings forced makers to get distracted and work extra shifts, which negatively affected their relationships and mental health. He was determined to find a way to run operations without adding to the workload of busy employees, and create a solution through tech. When she moved to San Diego, Anita joined Jabra as their first marketing hire, and was part of the team that grew the company to $150 million. There, she first met Bob Allison, who was Managing Director of the private equity firm, Innovate Partners, that invested in Jabra. After leaving Jabra, she still maintained her connection with Bob, who eventually became co-founder and CEO of PEAR Sports, and asked her to join and help reposition the company and their branding. Since her transition into PEAR Sports, Anita has actively emphasized the company's solution: prescription of personalized fitness programs for users. For example, PEAR made a recent contract with AFWERX to provide a scalable fitness solution for warrior moms to transition back to military life post-pregnancy. They are using their programs to meet specific target audiences and offer hyper-personalized fitness and wellness solutions. Ted Stearns is the CEO of Meallogix, an e-commerce platform company that provides meal prep and restaurant delivery automation software for meal prep operators.  Before starting Meallogix, Stearns was a casual customer of meal prep. His girlfriend at the time was a meal prep business owner, so he was accustomed to the backend operations of this industry. He was shocked to learn that there wasn't digital software available for meal prep operators, and that many used paper, which leads to more than 30 hours being spent writing recipes and taking transactions. He believed that providing a software platform would help these entrepreneurs work more efficiently, and began to put his idea to work. Meallogix had an overwhelming amount of interest from meal prep companies, which gave Stearns the market validation that this was a solution people needed. The platform launch was successful and allowed companies to scale even faster. The precious 30 hours spent on administrative tasks was digitally condensed to 30 minutes, allowing entrepreneurs to use their time to market themselves or focus on other operations.  During the pandemic, the meal prep and food delivery industries saw incredible growth due to increasing interest in consumers buying pre-made meals, with 85% of meal prep companies that used Meallogix seeing substantial growth. Revolutionizing High-tech Diabetes Management with Sean Saint

Companion Medical is a diabetes medical device company that offers a smart insulin pen system to help patients take proper insulin doses at the right time. The company's product, InPen, was the first to be FDA-approved, and revolutionized the medical device industry.  In this week's podcast, Neal is joined by Sean Saint, founder and CEO of Companion Medical, who shares his entrepreneurial journey. Tech Coast Angel investor Justin Jue also makes a special appearance as co-host, and talks about how he made his very first investment in Companion Medical during their early stages.  Sean graduated from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo with a mechanical engineering degree, and became involved in the medical device technology field as an engineer for Medtronic. He appreciated that he could do what he was skilled at and also have a significant impact helping others. He eventually moved to San Diego to work for diabetes management companies like Dexcom and Tandem, and stayed in the area ever since. Although he was heavily focused on developing ways to treat diabetes, Sean did not fully understand the complications of the disease until he was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes himself. He realized that automated insulin pumps are good devices, but are inefficient if they are not used by the patients themselves. With a changed perspective, he took it on himself to develop better technology for people to actually use.  After thinking of an idea for a smart insulin pen, Sean began to research for a smart pen company to work with. However, he was unable to find one, and it became clear that if he wanted to do this, he would have to take a leap of faith and do it himself. He started Companion Medical in 2013, and held on to his personal mantra, “Never Stop Talking,”— always bringing conversations and lunch meetings back to his vision for the startup. Through his consistent effort, he was eventually able to meet Justin in a TCA pitch, securing much-needed funds for Companion Medical's early days.  Companion Medical faced many challenges being the first novel product in the market, having to convince investors that the work they were doing was feasible and important. UC San Diego is an innovation powerhouse that has a significant influence over San Diego's economic development. The campus boasts over 500 inventions per year, and is in the top five ranking universities in the nation for startups. To continue cultivating a strong innovation ecosystem, the university established a local chapter of the National Academy of Inventors (NAI). Meet the UC San Diego team who helped create this chapter: Paul Roben and Al Pisano.  Paul was a previous postdoc at UC San Diego, and proceeded to work for the Irish government as the Director of Lifesciences, developing national policy for the biotechnology sector. He returned to San Diego to work at the Salk Institute, and eventually transitioned to UC San Diego as the Associate Vice Chancellor of Innovation & Commercialization. He focuses on creating educational activities for students involved in entrepreneurship, such as certificate programs and incubators, and manages relationships between the school and various industries to commercialize technology developed on campus.  Al's career consistently involved designing and innovating new products. In the past, he was a practicing engineer that created new products for companies such as Xerox and General Motors. As the current Dean of the UC San Diego Jacobs School of Engineering, he quotes the school's two mantras, “We make bold possible,”and “Innovation happens here,” as the driving force behind the curriculum and research efforts for students interested in innovation. He anticipates that the chapter will excite the local communities and continue the outpour of startups and inventions from the campus.  The NAI was created to recognize innovators and create an environment for like-minded students to receive education and mentorship. Both men agree that the addition of the local chapter is a great opportunity, as it gives a national platform to showcase the school's progress and innovative efforts, collaborate with others, and access a global network of mentors and investors. The San Diego region has received over $5 billion in venture investment funding in the past year. UC San Diego has been active in working with local industry partners. Talena Handley is the Founder and CEO of Girlie Garage, an educational platform that aims to teach women about their vehicles so they feel empowered and confident on the road. Girlie Garage provides automotive consulting and online videos to help its customers solve car issues without being taken advantage of by shops.  While growing up in Northern California, Talena was always tinkering with motorcycles, even getting her first one at the young age of four. Her grandfather used to refurbish Ford Model Ts and Volkswagen Karmann Ghias, and she would always be found in his workshop helping him. Although it was her hobby, she began to pursue auto mechanics in a more serious light after her car was stolen for the second time. Knowing that there was a stigma of women being taken advantage of for not being well-versed in cars, Talena went to mechanic school so she could learn how to help herself instead. Her education in automatics took her around the U.S. and Canada, where she worked for various race teams. Talena added business and entrepreneurship to her list of skills while attending San Diego State University.She began to use her entrepreneurial experience and passion for automobiles for Girlie Garage, her lifelong mission to educate and help others with their personal vehicles. Melissa Lopez is CEO of Onyx Offsites and Trainings, an experimental education company that provides custom-retreats, executive training, team building and wellness initiatives for organizations all over the world.  Originally from Phoenix, Ariz., Melissa came to San Diego for college, studying at the University of San Diego. After she graduated, she decided to stay in town to accept an advertising and marketing position. As her marketing skills grew, Melissa was able to observe the transition of in-person marketing to interactive advertising, largely due to the introduction of the internet. Melissa began to gain steady influence at Castle Advertising, a former advertising agency, and then consistently moved on to other companies, helping build each organization's digital marketing division.  Eventually, she co-founded Katana Media with current Analytics Ventures Managing Partner Andreas Roell (acquired by BVAccel, another San Diego company). While running her own company, Melissa was also offered a board position in Entrepreneurs' Organization, where she learned the importance of having a lifelong learner mindset, even as a CEO. She continued to grow as an entrepreneur, and after Katana was acquired, she built another company called DataQ that offered e-commerce tools to analyze first-party data and insights. DataQ was eventually acquired by another San Diego company, Power Digital Marketing. After selling DataQ, Melissa joined Onyx in early 2020, a month before the pandemic hit, and immediately had to make hard decisions to survive. Melissa focused on downsizing and finding a new way for Onyx to provide its services. Everything was originally done in an in-person group gathering.However, the inability to gather in groups forced her to look for a new virtual solution. Her and her team began to focus on making activities as interactive as possible, such as sending materials for wine tasting, or having virtual game shows. The pandemic forced a new productization that was predominantly virtual, which succeeded despite the initial setbacks.  Onyx had a huge breakthrough with many companies, as the pandemic made organizations focus on how to connect teams through technology now more than ever. San Diego's bluetech cluster is a sub-sector of the larger, broader local “Blue Economy,” which accounts for more than 1,400 companies, supporting 46,000 jobs, and generating $14 billion in direct sales. President and CEO, Yi Chao, contributes to this with his company, Seatrec, which recently relocated to Vista from Los Angeles. Seatrec designs technology used to convert temperature differences in the ocean into electricity. Other applications include oceanic robotics, ocean energy stations, and polar environmental research. Yi grew up in China and was introduced to the STEM field at a young age. He received his bachelor's degree in Atmospheric Physics at a highly selective science and technology university. Soon after, he applied to graduate schools all over the U.S., ultimately attending Princeton and receiving his Ph,D, in Oceanography. Yi employed his background in the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) at NASA, where he worked with computer modeling used to develop the first satellite to measure salinity (the saltiness or amount of salt dissolved in a body of water) from space.  While working in underwater robotics at JPL, Yi discovered that in order for underwater robots to be active in the ocean, they require consistent energy. He understood that this could not be achieved manually and worked to develop an ocean-powered technology with which robots charge themselves and automatically recognize varying water temperatures. This data would then be sent to command centers for further research and analysis.  Seatrec is currently used primarily by researchers and academic institutions, but in the near future, Yi hopes to expand the technology for commercial uses. Ritika Sehgal takes us through her journey in founding Challenge Island San Diego Coastal, a locally owned, award-winning program designed to inspire STEAM development among the younger generation through creativity, collaboration and innovative thinking.  Ritika grew up in India, but moved to San Diego early in her career. She initially pursued management roles for tech companies, working primarily on product and application development. After having her son, she noticed a lack of organic learning methods, prompting her to explore more ways to engage young kids in creative learning. She then discovered STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and math) programs. She appreciated the relatability and inclusivity provided by such programs. With that, she launched Challenge Island.  Challenge Island encourages a balanced education by eliminating compartmentalized learning and perfectly combining creative thinking with practical knowledge. By merging greatly contrasting fields like math and art, students with varying interests and backgrounds are able to  participate and further develop their skills through uniquely designed projects and activities. The program itself is mobile; they travel to schools, libraries and organizations with instructors and whatever materials are necessary.  Ritika eventually decided to join Connect All at the Jacob's Center accelerator to learn more about the intricacies of startup growth and ways in which she can further enrich her program. Coming out of the program, she has a greater understanding of her roadmap and is thankful for the opportunities she has come across as a result. Going forward, she is looking for more ways in which she can give back to the community and involve more organizations in her program. She hopes to bring Challenge Island to children's hospitals or areas with little access to schooling and resources, and is looking to connect with people interested in collaborating or brainstorming more ideas. Where we start and where we end up are two things that are so incredibly different, but equally important when evaluating success. As a rising entrepreneur from South Africa, Jonathan Cogley exemplified this journey and showcased how much can be achieved with tenacity and passion. Jonathan is the CEO at LogicBoost Labs, a startup accelerator in San Diego designed to help B2B startups go from $0 in revenue to $1 million.  After growing up in Johannesburg, South Africa, Jonathan moved to the UK after graduating college, where he pursued a degree in microbiology and genetics. He shared how difficult it was for him to find work with that degree in the UK, so he went on to attain a Master's in Computer Science to expand his breadth of career options. He stumbled across many fields over time, working in hospitals, consulting companies, and eventually BBC - a job he greatly enjoyed. A few years later, he took a big step and moved across the pond to the United States. He lived in Pennsylvania for a couple years and then proceeded to move to Washington D.C., where he started his first services business. Here, he was able to grow his business to $2 million a year in consulting revenue, but soon realized his disinterest with the servicing industry given how difficult it is to scale and develop. With that, he decided to transition from servicing to software. Like with any new project, Jonathan ran into many problems with logistics, as he found it difficult for his team of five to effectively figure out how to securely manage servers and routers while maintaining company credentials. This problem influenced the idea for his first successful product, an “IT admins password vault,” which ultimately resulted in a $100 million business.  Some hurdles he encountered on the way dealt primarily with talent acquisition, as he struggled to find people in commercial sales and marketing in D.C. He and his team overcame this by developing their own sales talent by hiring college graduates and sales coaches and introducing talent programs in the D.C. area. In addition to maintaining his startup, he continued to mentor and invest in other companies. By 2015, he had 60-to-100 hour work weeks and his company reached a plateau in regards to increasing revenue. At this point, he understood the importance of knowing one's limits and took a year off to recover. During this time, he continued mentoring, looked into different incubators, and chatted with a couple hundred startups. As a “recovering entrepreneur,” he advised and mentored for some time before investing. Soon, he took part in angel investing and learned many things surrounding the startup industry. He realized that despite how much help and money was offered to different companies, their success depended far more on the strength of the team. This revelation in understanding “the formula for what startups need to be successful” encouraged the genesis of LogicBoost Labs.  While still in D.C., Jonathan started looking into San Diego and eventually moved, only to discover how vibrant the tech scene in San Diego is. With LogicBoost, he utilized all his knowledge regarding startup growth and placed more emphasis on hiring people into the company who can offer other startups exactly what they need to flourish but couldn't find elsewhere. With more money came more investors, so a key component to their mission was maintaining consistent funding so long as company milestones were achieved.  LogicBoost Labs runs processing cohorts and issues applications quarterly, looking specifically for B2B SAAS companies with full time founders (June 30 deadline for current cohort: sign up now!). They invest in approximately one-to-two startups each quarter, with a max initial deal size of $300,000 dedicated towards investments and services. Once a company is accepted into the cohort, there is a two year timeline in which the cohort works with them. LogicBoost Labs has budgeted $2.5 million a year for the next four years, covering all company and investment costs. Going forward, the company is looking to hire consultants or people with experience in sales and marketing. As the third largest cable provider in the nation with 6.5 million customers and 55,000+ employees, Cox has seen significant changes in the past year as a result of the pandemic.  In this week's podcast, Jared Ruth, Director of Marketing for Cloud, Channel, and Carrier at Cox Business, and Ron Lev, Executive Director of New Growth and Development at Cox Communications, share their insights about cloud communication and its future at Cox.  As long-time telecom executives, they both have seen the massive technological advances made in the last 20 years. Jared reflects on the original use of modems and the quick switch to wireless tech and cell phones. He talks about how company founder James Cox was a visionary and innovator and did what he needed in order to stay relevant in an ever changing industry more than 120 years ago. This message still remains foundational for how the company iterates its technology.  As a result of the pandemic, many companies were forced to shift with little instruction on how to do it. Cox even had to take 95% of its 55,000+ team virtual. This created an even greater need for cloud software and general company ‘virtualization.' With ransomware running rampant, the need for close, protected data has also grown. Ron's team works on doing just that - to get cloud data closer to the user with more customer support.  As he has started to work on cloud software with SMBs more often, he found that these companies prefer more backend support. This is one aspect that sets Cox apart from other cloud providers like Microsoft and Amazon. Jared said that things would be easier if companies were always in the same stage of the virtualization process, but each company is unique. This creates the need for an individualized solution that isn't always provided by other providers. In a new generation reliant on fast internet and a seamless experience, Cox has begun to focus on more low latency solutions. Listen on Apple, Google, Spotify, and other platforms. Sarah Davis is the founder of Fashionphile, an ultra luxury accessory reseller that specializes in bags, shoes, travel goods, and watches. Building upon the consignment shop model, Fashionphile utilizes technology to appeal to a new era of shoppers.  Sarah began her entrepreneurial journey under the eBay username Fashionphile in 1999. To bring in some income while attending University of Maryland School of Law, Sarah sold products online. She started off selling all types of clothing and accessories, but quickly noticed that handbags held onto their value better than any other product. By 2001, she strictly sold handbags.  At the time, she was focused on becoming a lawyer, not a business owner. While studying for the bar post graduation, Sarah continued to sell products online. Before even taking the bar, she had already paid off her law school loans. This is when she realized the potential of the company. After speaking with an accountant, he recommended The E-Myth, a book that defined Sarah's situation, as it touched upon how entrepreneurs work so hard in the business that they don't have the time to work on the business.  Shortly after, she took the leap, moving her online business to Beverly Hills in 2006. There, the team rented out a guest house of a Beverly Hills mansion where customers could check out the inventory. They then bought office space off Rodeo Drive, which allowed customers to buy and sell luxury goods at the same time. Eventually, she and her family moved to Carlsbad right here in San Diego, keeping hold of the business with retailers and employees located across Southern California.  The website was launched in 2007, giving Sarah and her team time to slowly wean themselves off of eBay, which they fully separated from in 2010.  Fashionphile only sells the most replicated  designer products, with an average sale price of about $1,400. Part of the company's mission is understanding how to validate the original designer goods being sent to them, and how to validate new products according to customer needs. Users can take photos of their luxury items and ask how much Fashionphile will pay for them. They can redeem their money via online payments, Fashionphile gift cards, or gift cards from Neiman Marcus , which formed a partnership with Fashionphile a few years ago. With many ‘selling studios' in metropolitan areas across the state (and five more on the way), Fashionphile allows customers to bring their goods in person and receive monetary compensation the same day.  Sarah bootstrapped the funds for the company since day one. Each time she would sell product, she would take the profit to buy more goods, growing organically for 20 years. In 2007, she was in talks with Tech Coast Angels, but didn't find enough value in giving up a large percentage of the company for capital. Zeb Evans is the Co-Founder and CEO of ClickUp, a productivity platform designed to replace all other workplace applications.  Ever since he was a kid, Zeb had been interested in business. At birthdays, he asked for wholesale toys that he could sell to other kids instead of ones he could play with. His parents had pushed him to pursue a career in medicine, but he was always more interested in the business field.  While studying at Virginia Tech, Zeb was robbed at gunpoint. He took some time to think about his current career trajectory, and realized that college wasn’t for him. He dropped out and began learning coding. Within no time, he had created an application (Fast Followers) to schedule tweets. Many utilized the platform, and the company saw large success; however, following another near-death experience, Zeb chose to move across the country to Silicon Valley.  Zeb felt as if his last company primarily inflated users’ egos through social media, and wasn’t going to become the scalable, innovative company he had hoped. Once he had settled in Silicon Valley, he and a few co-workers started Mango Technologies, which was originally focused on creating a safer Craigslist.  What began as an internal tool for project management of Mango became ClickUp. While in Silicon Valley, they would talk to people about their original company, but many were more  interested in their project management software. So, Zeb and his team shifted gears and launched ClickUp in 2017, making the product available in 2020. Since its launch, ClickUp has become one of the fastest growing SaaS startups, even securing $100 million in funding last December.  The benefit of starting in Silicon Valley was that everyone was in tech. In coffee shops, they chatted about their product and other entrepreneurs began using it themselves. This helped them grow organically, while they bootstrapped most of their money up until their Series A in 2020.  ClickUp realized that San Francisco was not the California they imagined, and paying six figures for all roles was out of the question. After looking at Austin, Salt Lake City, and other growing tech hubs, the team fell in love with San Diego, and moved the company headquarters down south.  Since the company has been in San Diego, the team has been focused on attracting talent and educating people on the platform. ClickUp understands the user is smart, and the team wants to make a platform that fosters customization. This week we welcome Snehal Bhakta to the Canvascasters Podcast! Currently, Snehal is a CTE Administrator employed for the 5th largest school district in the country, Clark County School District(CCSD) focusing on ensuring that Nevada's future workforce is prepared for success. Snehal has worked on projects related to increasing student and community participation with National Job Shadow Day, started an Annual Student Workforce & Innovation Summit for seniors, promoted growth of Career & Technical Student Organizations, and leads CCSD's #GirlsinSTEM and #GirlsinTECH Initiatives as well as supporting STEM Equity and Diversity programs across 59 middle and 47 high schools especially for those students that are underserved and underrepresented. Mr. Bhakta also serves as the Nevada Affiliate Coordinator for NCWIT(National Center for Women & Information Technology), legislative member for the Society of Information Management(SIM) of Las Vegas, steering committee member for the Intermountain STEM Steering Committee, and holds board positions on several other local organizations. In 2017, he was awarded the Top Tech Exec Award in the Education Category by Cox Communications and in 2019, the National Alliance for Partnerships in Equity(NAPE) awarded Snehal the 2019 Rising Star award at their National Summit for Educational Equity in Washington, D.C. and received the COX Business 2019 Top Tech Lifetime Achievement Award for his work with diversity in the workforce in Southern Nevada. Mr. Bhakta has also been appointed in 2020 to the Governor's Advisory Board for STEM, Nevada State Multicultural Committee, National Alliance for Partnerships in Equity(NAPE) Executive Committee, and the Inclusion, Access, Equity and Diversity Taskforce for the Association of Career and Technical Education(ACTE).
