Prince | Foreword by Michael A.G. Haykin “Every Divine truth bears a relation to him: hence the doctrine of the gospel is called ‘the truth as it is in Jesus,'” according to Andrew Fuller. Biblical history is the story of the truth as it is in Jesus. Fuller never lost sight of this foundational truth. His pastoral commitment to pursue the truth as it is in Jesus transformed every aspect of Fuller's thinking, including his understanding of the task of preaching, sermon preparation, and the preparation of the preacher himself. He believed in the primacy of faithful, Christ-centered expository preaching. Of preaching, he wrote, “Oh how important! We preach for eternity!” These pages call the reader alongside Andrew Fuller as he teaches us through his writings and sermons to “Preach not only the truth, but all truth, ‘as it is in Jesus.'”

The recent COP26 meeting in Glasgow has helped concentrate many minds on climate change. Projections of future temperatures and their impact on world sea-levels pose complex challenges for the present. At the same time, a new study by the United Nations' Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) reveals that our past is also at risk. The report presents chilling scenarios about the impact of sea-level rises on great archaeological sites in the Mediterranean. These projections are spurring decision makers to ponder a fundamental question: can we seek to confront it? At the ancient city of Butrint in Albania, plans are afoot to achieve exactly that. On this episode of The PastCast, two of the architects of the Butrint Integrated Management Plan, Dr David Prince and Dr Richard Hodges, explain its proposals and why they are so necessary. They are also co-authors of an article on the subject in the latest issue of Current World Archaeology magazine, which is also available in full on The Past website. On this episode they spoke with regular PastCast presenter, Calum Henderson. The Past brings together the most exciting stories and the very best writing from the realms of history, archaeology, heritage, and the ancient world. You can subscribe to The Past today for just £7.99. If you enjoyed this podcast, please consider liking it, subscribing, and sharing it around.

On October 8th Jovie and Bridey performed a paranormal investigation at the Dumas Brothel in Butte, Montana. During the evening they had a chance to sit down and chat with David Prince the Owner and operator of the brothel museum. The Dumas Brothel has the title of the longest running brothel in the United States, operating from 1890 until 1982. They discussed the history of the building, the paranormal activity that happens there and past investigations that have been performed. David was a font of information and gave us great insight about the building and even assisted us during our investigation. For those who want more, we have additional audio on our patron page.

In 2002, at the age of 18, he crashed his motorcycle which resulted in having his leg amputated below the knee as well as a traumatic head injury. After seeing his life come crumbling down, David was able to turn that setback into a comeback and began training to become a sprinter. In 2016, he was back at the Paralympic Games in Rio where he finished 6th in the 200 m event. In November of 2019, Prince, at the age of 36, won a bronze medal in Dubai at the 2019 World Championships in the 200 m race. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=John+10%3A22-33&version=ESV (John 10:22-33) A painful thing in life, which people struggle with, is the matter of insecurity. I suspect we all have an insecurity or two rolling around in our heads and a variety of questions we wonder and worry about: • Am I doing good enough at work? • Have I saved enough? • Have I done a good job of raising my kids and taking care of my family? • Am I pretty enough (or handsome) enough? • Am I smart enough to do that? • Will my health be well enough to take care of myself as I get older? • Is my heart well enough to avoid a stroke or heart attack? • Do my kids love me enough to take care of me if I need their help? • When I die, will my spouse have enough money and capability to take care of herself (or himself)? • Am I safe enough in this troubled and violent world? • Have I done enough good to be received into heaven? The list goes on and on. Living in this broken world of ours makes it difficult to avoid having a few insecurities. Did you notice the word “enough” seems to be a major culprit in our insecurities? Our questioning? It implies a sense of inadequacy. One of my favorite preachers of God's Word, Stuart Briscoe, said a number of years ago, “Deep down, we have a sense of individual insecurity to cooperate with other people.” Maxwell Maltz who wrote the book, “Psycho Cybernetics,” estimates 95% of people in our society have a strong sense of inadequacy. I have no difficulty believing that figure. My only surprise is why the other 5% aren't feeling insecure. Jesus, in our passage for today, has some reassuring words, which have proven helpful for me in facing – even overcoming – insecurities in life. I'm sure you will find them helpful for yourself as well. The words stem from a conversation Jesus was having with some of His adversaries who are trying very hard to wreck His reputation and ministry. They even went so far as to do Him in once and for all. They surrounded Him in Solomon's colonnade around the temple area and asked, “How long will you keep us in suspense, Jesus? If you are the Christ, tell us plainly.” Jesus responded to them by saying, “I have told you, and you do not believe. The works I do in my Father's name bear witness about me, but you refuse to believe because you are not among my sheep.” Then Jesus speaks these wonderful words about the blessing of belonging to Him as one of His sheep. My sheep hear my voice. So many voices speak out to us, offering misguided, harmful information that can harm us saying, Follow my advice and wisdom, and I will show you how to live the good life. Satan is always busy seeking to make a wreck of our lives and destroy us. He throws temptations our way and says, Go ahead! Give into it. You will enjoy it. Nobody will get hurt. You deserve it! Jesus promises to speak into our lives. He is our Shepherd. Though usually not audibly, He speaks to us as we open His holy Word. He assures us of His love. He shows us His way. His voice is a voice of wisdom and truth, which protects me, guides me, and gives me real life. It is the voice of real love reassuring me that I belong to Him. I recently read this story by David Prince. I know a family who adopted an older child from an unspeakably horrific orphanage in another country. When they brought her home one of the things they told her was she was expected to clean her room every day. She fixated on the responsibility and saw it as a way to earn her family's love. In other words, she isolated the responsibility and applied it to her existing frame of thinking, which was shaped by life in the orphanage. Thus, every morning when her parents came to her room, it was immaculate. She would sit on the bed and say, “My room is clean. Can I stay? Do you still love me?” Her words broke her new parents' hearts. Eventually the girl learned to hear her parents' words as their unconditionally beloved child who would never...

"Laid-Back Country Picker is Lawrence County social studies teacher David Prince, a part-time musician who, at 52, is finally getting some big attention for his authentic love of his “fleet-maintained” Crown Victoria. The blonde woman is his wife, Teresa, also a teacher. The rollers are her own, the housecoat from Goodwill. The young man in back is a fellow musician, but you will see Prince’s son-in-law as one of the gym dancers “mowing” the lawn and Prince’s very pregnant, ebullient daughter dancing in a T-shirt bearing her father’s distinctive likeness. The narrator of “Magoffin County Cadillac” heads out of Salyersville, “ridin’ like a Coupe de Ville,” and heads to Prestonsburg, Elkhorn City, Sandy Hook, West Liberty, Jackson, Stanton, Rabbit Town and Booneville on the way to see his friend, the “king” of Estill County. “Magoffin County Cadillac” has received shout-outs from rising country star and Estill County resident Tyler Childers, the Kentucky Headhunters, Kentucky Sports Radio and Kentucky for Kentucky." - Cheryl Truman You can find Red Barn Radio on YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, Twitch, and the Public Radio Exchange. Many pastors are afraid to speak to cultural issues, which is a detriment to the flock they're shepherding. More importantly, there's a lack of discipleship that trains Christians to think biblically about the issues of our neighborhoods. A panel of pastors, including Jimmy Scroggins, David Prince, Robby Gallaty, and Bryan Loritts gave helpful advice about these topics at the ERLC National Conference. We hope you're encouraged by this message. Subscribe here iTunes | Google Play | Stitcher | Tune in
There's no doubt about the major role that sports play in our society. So, it's only fitting that the topic was addressed at the ERLC National Conference. David Prince, who is an avid lover of baseball and college football, discussed how Christians can view and use sports as a means of discipleship and a way to engage with those around us. This Sunday’s Super Bowl game is a classic good v. evil showdown. (Okay, maybe that’s editorializing. But it is true that the Patriots have won the Super Bowl 7 times since 2001 and the Atlanta Falcons have never even won a title, making the Falcons the inevitable favored underdog.) But beyond the actual teams, the Super Bowl stands atop a waning list of cultural events that bring America together. Last year, about 115 million Americans tuned in to watch the Broncos, the commercials, or Beyoncé. The fact that there’s something for everyone is one of the Super Bowl’s biggest value propositions, says David Prince, the author of In the Arena: The Promise of Sports for Christian Discipleship. “The commercials during the Super Bowl—it would be impossible for me to have less interest in that. And yet for some people, that’s the main reason they’re tuning in,” said Prince, an Atlanta Falcons fan. “The halftime show—I’ve never watched a halftime show in my life and I don’t plan to start this year—but for others that’s the main reason they’re watching.” Prince joined joined assistant editor Morgan Lee and editor-in-chief Mark Galli to discuss whether football be the country’s new civil religion, why losing can be important than winning, and why players’ faith isn’t covered better by the media.

What you’ll hear in this episode: David's life, ministry, marriage, and his current ministry projects. How Christians should think about sports from an explicitly biblical worldview. How Christians should view being a fan of their sport teams while being sensitive to share more about Jesus. How sports and spiritual warfare go together. How Christians should pursue sports as a form of their discipleship. How can engaging in sports help Christians learn to build their identity around Christ. Courageous convictions verses safe sentimentality. How Christian’s interest in sports can be instructive and spur them on toward faithfulness to the gospel. About the Author: David E. Prince is pastor of preaching and vision at Ashland Avenue Baptist Church in Lexington, Kentucky and assistant professor of Christian preaching at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.
