Maxwell's 'The Difference Maker' My 2024 Gaming Year in Review Soca Mixtape February 2025 Happy February, I hope the new year is going well for you. I've been home from work since the beginning of December. I fractured a small bone in my left foot, so I'm recuperating. I hope to return to work and my social life this February. This has given me more time to make content! As listed above on this episode, this is my first food recipe on this podcast. I dehydrate veggies often to get more greens in my diet. In this segment, I dehydrated kale and tofu. They make a great snack and are open to almost any kind of spices and seasonings you'd like to apply to them. In the second segment, I discuss my favorite quotes from prolific author John C. Maxwell's book 'The Difference Maker.' I love the self-help books, and I gravitated towards this one. Next up, I go over my gaming year in 2024. Nintendo, Playstation, Xbox, and Valve provide player stats, which are a lot of fun. I break my numbers down for these last twelve months. Have you(if your game) checked out your player stats for 2024 from any of these websites? Please let me know. Finally, daydreaming of the spring/summer months inspired me to assemble this soca mixtape. Soca reminds me of summer parties and dancing outside with friends. Do you like this new format of collecting different pieces of content to make one big episode, or do you prefer short, 8-15-minute episodes? These collected content-type episodes will be released once a month. I can release shorter content here on the podcast feed, weekly or biweekly. Please let me know. Enjoy the episode! Late summer and all through fall are the times many gardeners are harvesting crops they want to keep for the long-term to use throughout the winter. How do we harvest and store these vegetables to be sure they retain their flavor, texture, and nutrient value? Today we'll discuss basic cold storage of the most popular types of fall garden crop: no refrigeration, no freezing, no canning, no dehydrating. Just what you can rig up in your basement, a closet, a garage or, if you're lucky, a root cellar. Each category of crop has its own preference for long-term storage conditions and it's well worth making sure you have these areas figured out and set up ahead of time so you can keep the bounty going for as long as you can. In this episode, Jamie and Carol discuss the importance of preparing for fall gardening while it's still summertime. They talk about the different plants that can be started from seed and direct-sowed, and advise listeners on the best time to begin planting. They also share some personal experiences and observations on the challenges of gardening in changing weather conditions.SummaryThe hosts delve into the intricacies of fall gardening and emphasize the importance of timing. They advise listeners to determine the first frost date in their area and use the days of maturity on seed packets to determine the optimal planting time. The hosts also caution that certain crops, such as beets and carrots, require careful monitoring to avoid becoming woody or overripe. They stress the need to keep seeds moist during the germination process for successful growth. Overall, the episode underscores the importance of careful planning and timing in gardening. The hosts also discuss how the internet has revolutionized gardening research. They note that while in the past, they had to rely on books from the library, they can now easily find a wealth of information by typing their questions into Google or visiting gardening websites. However, they caution that it can be overwhelming to sift through all the information available. One of the hosts shares a helpful video they found on the Epic Gardener website, which provided guidance on when to plant different crops. The hosts agree that the internet has made gardening information more accessible and easier to find.In addition, the hosts share insights into their own garden spaces. One of them has free-range chickens that seem to help themselves to everything in the garden except for cacti. They speculate about whether the chickens have tried to eat the cacti but ultimately conclude that the chickens seem to leave them alone. This anecdotal evidence suggests that cacti may be a good plant to include in a garden with chickens, but it is important to note that this may not apply to all chickens or all types of cacti.Timestamps[00:00:33] Preparing for fall gardening. Today's episode is all about an easy and efficient way to preserve fruits and veggies using an air fryer's dehydrating setting. Dehydrating is a great way to preserve flavors and nutrients, and using an air fryer makes the process easier and faster. Dehydrating is a healthy alternative to deep-frying or baking, as it requires little to no added oil or fat. Mango is a great fruit to dehydrate in the air fryer and is the focus of today's recipe. How to Dehydrate in an Air Fryer Slice your fruits or vegetables into thin, even pieces. Place them in a single layer on the air fryer racks and select the dehydrating function. Set the temperature to around 130°F to 140°F for dehydrating fruits and vegetables. Adjust the time settings depending on the produce and the thickness of your slices. Examples of fruits and veggies you can dehydrate in the air fryer include kiwi, strawberries, bananas, apples, apricots, peaches, pears, carrots, and tomatoes. As it stands today, chronic pain affects more Americans than DIABETES, HEART DISEASE, and CANCER combined. In fact, chronic pain is THE NUMBER ONE reason Americans access the Healthcare system today. However, many people believe their only option for pain relief is found in drugstore options such as Ibuprofen, Advil, and Tylenol (to name a few). Tragically, most people are unaware that these pain meds do more HARM than good. Common side effects include Headaches, Liver and Kidney issues, High Blood Pressure, and in rare cases – even death. Not to mention, they are just masking your pain... Giving you temporary relief... While this may sound all doom and gloom, I do have good news... There is an all-natural solution that addresses the root cause of your discomfort... A REAL solution that allows you to get back to being YOU! And that solution is called Curcumin Gold made by my friends at Purality Health. Curcumin Gold contains Turmeric Curcumin Extract, Vegan Omega-3s, & Ginger Oil. Calming our mitochondria so that we can produce what we need to do on a daily basis, with sustained energy, is the name of the game here. It starts with getting moving and moves on to getting a healthy dose of sunlight (infrared and red light is key). Exposing yourself to the natural vibrations of the earth (electromagnetic frequency) is next, and there's also cold exposure and hydration to explore as strategies to help quit that (perhaps) unnecessary cup of coffee first thing in the morning. This week we're back to preserving our harvest! This episode we'll talk about ways to dehydrate your fruits and veggies and how to use them when you're ready, the basics of cold storage including temperature, light, and humidity requirements, and look a little bit at fermenting your garden goodness and whether or not that's a viable way to actually store produce or just good for our gut health. I respond to a comment I got on TikTok about pressure canning: spoiler alert, opinions are not backed by science. And in the DRL we're talking hydroponic lettuce, succession planting, and doing hard things. Let's dig in! Dehydration is one of the oldest methods of food preservation. In fact, it's been used for centuries as an efficient mechanism for safely storing fruits, vegetables, herbs, pasta and even meats. And thanks to the revival of DIY methods like fermentation and canning, dehydrating foods is having a moment. But this time, it's not just reserved for hippies and backpackers. In her new book, “Dehydrating: Simple Techniques and Over 170 Recipes for Creating and Using Dehydrated Foods,” author Jeanette Hurt shares the many reasons why purchasing a dehydrator is a smart move for avid home cooks. On this week's podcast, we're catching up with Hurt, the author of 15 tomes including "Wisconsin Cocktails," "The Joy of Cider,” "Cauliflower Comfort Food" and “The Unofficial ALDI Cookbook”, about her newest release, which offers advice, recipes and ideas for preserving the harvest, reducing waste, saving money and creating inventive gifts for food lovers.
If you are concerned about food shortages and supply chain issues, if you have an overabundant harvest in the garden, or if you just want to lock in your food costs at today's prices or take advantage of a great sale, you will want to take some steps toward preserving your bounty. You could can or freeze your surplus, but sometimes space is an issue, and freezing isn't the best option in the event of power outages resulting from rolling blackouts, hurricanes, or snow storms. Dehydration is an excellent alternative that preserves the harvest, saves space, and generally lasts longer than many of the other options.
