Deloitte Global partners Chad Hungerford and Chris Oates reveal the key practical challenges of pillar two implementation while finding cause for optimism and even excitement in an exclusive podcast with ITR.What motivates tax professionals to get up in the morning, and what keeps them up at night? Hungerford and Oates address these questions and more as they sit down with ITR commercial editor Phil Myers. The guest speakers draw on recent experience with tax authorities and clients to provide an inside track on the rapidly evolving pillar two landscape, with the significance of this moment resonating powerfully.“Whilst this is a challenge,” Oates says, “if you flip the coin, this is probably the most interesting new bit of tax legislation that has been introduced in my lifetime from a corporate perspective. And we see that reflected when we're having conversations.”The podcast explores the following areas:Emerging issues uncovered – Chad and Chris delve into the hurdles companies are finding;Priorities for companies – where businesses should be placing their focus at present;Common misconceptions – correcting widespread misunderstandings;M&A and growth plans – why pillar two must be factored in;Safe harbours and their future – why tax practitioners should “prepare for the worst and hope for the best”;Varying jurisdictional approaches – the “different flavours of implementation”;Technology transitions – whether now really is the right time to be considering new solutions; andThe outlook – where is pillar two heading? While the complexities and technicalities are addressed, the podcast also brings out the passion and excitement that drives tax professionals to tackle these challenges. The insights and practical advice on offer could help to arm you with the knowledge to navigate what, we are warned, could be a bumpy road ahead. As Hungerford says, “This is not something you can minor in – that you can spend a lot of time in every other area of tax and then just dabble with pillar two.”Listen in and dive deeper into pillar two.

Welcome to Episode 10 of Series 2 where we're focusing on the so-called "Shecession", which is the massive loss of women from the workforce post-pandemic. American media are doubling-down on the story that people in America don't want to go back to their low paying jobs  after having it “so good” on unemployment when really, the missing infrastructure of childcare and other much needed supports for working women is a huge reason behind people, disproportionately women, having to leave the workforce and not return. We discuss the cycle of debt and poverty and how having "rainy day savings” is a privilege for many. We go through important statistics from the recent Deloitte "Women @ Work" report which detail women carrying the bulk of household tasks while still working, how many are losing faith in their career prospects and explore some of the reasons why more than half of the women polled are looking to leave their jobs in the next 2 years. We explore the pervasiveness of harassment, microaggressions and non-inclusive behaviour and how many examples of these behaviours are so innocuous, most women won't report them for fear of sounding melodramatic or experiencing career penalties. We question if what we're seeing is a rise of the patriarchy and we close out the episode talking over why the idea that women and men were nearly equal before the pandemic is a lie.- Deloitte Global "Women @ Work" Report, READ IT!- Please check out our "Feminism 101" suggested reading list here if you're at a loose end for a great read from an Feminist author.- Find out more about the amazing artists, Nubefy, behind the graphics we use (though not on this episode) here.

We cover why understanding Marketing, as a macro topic and not just Marketing Procurement, is vital if you want to be taken seriously in the world of marketing. People who know marketing and enjoy marketing are the ones who are best at Marketing Procurement. We talk about the value procurement pros can bring to marketing and how it is more than marketers think as old age perceptions around price still live and worry marketers about procurements intentions. We talk about how the best marketing procurement pros going into marketing enter that world and say what do you need, what are your metrics (this is similar to what Sarah Scudder broke down for us in this Podcast). Adopting the latest terminology of “experience architect”, Jennifer spends her days enhancing the onboarding experience for Deloitte Global. She has informed and influenced every moment along the candidate to employee lifecycle as an HR partner or consultant.  Jennifer believes the most important moment along the employee lifecycle is often dismissed, the job offer is accepted and equipment is setup, but the rest of the onboarding process is inconsistent at best. She hopes to show how everyone in a company plays a role in creating a welcoming and inclusive work environment  for New Hires. In this episode we share insights and research on how organisations can improve their onboarding experience. Organisations can often be blind to the negative impact on the organisation and the new hire, by not placing a focus on remote onboarding. The EC is debating a new law in Poland, feared to be compromising the editorial freedom of public service broadcasters. Last Thursday, President Duda signed a new media bill, giving the government direct control over top appointments at the country's TV & radio stations. The bill had been condemned by press freedom organisations. Steve is joined by Polish journalist Bartosz Wielinski, from newspaper Gazeta Wyborcza, and Ingrid Deltenre, Director General of the European Broadcasting Union, which has opposed the bill from the outset. James Harding, the Director of News and Current affairs at the BBC, has launched a review to reshape the operation as it faces millions of pounds worth of costs. In a recent blog post, he wrote to staff saying: "We are going to have to make choices...the funding settlement for the BBC requires both cuts and the reallocation of spending." Steve Hewlett asks one-time ITN Chief Executive and Editor in Chief Stewart Purvis and Jonathan Baker, former Editor of the BBC News at Ten and now Professor of Journalism at Essex University, where cuts might be made. And in a week that's seen the BBC criticised by the Labour party following the on-air resignation of Stephen Doughty, Steve also talks to them about such 'deals' being done, and whether they jeopardise impartiality. The consultancy firm Deloitte has published its 2016 Media Predictions report today. This year's predictions include a growth in virtual reality, especially in gaming, plus a prediction that very few people will use ad-blocking software. In addition, its report says there will be a slowdown in the US pay-TV market and a growth in eSports. Ed Shedd leads the global media and entertainment team at Deloitte Global. He talks Steve Hewlett through some of this year's key predictions. Producer: Katy Takatsuki.

I recorded this episode at Social Media Marketing World 2014. In this episode, Janet Chang provides insight into Deloitte’s adoption of social business. Social business adoption at Deloitte has been building for marketing, recruiting talent and brand building. Not surprisingly, not all the member firms are at the same level, but they are seeing increasing awareness and adoption. Janet points out that the opportunities over the next year are to activate DTTL and member firm professionals as brand ambassadors. Employees are being invited into their social business program to provide comfort, confidence and getting them engaged as brand ambassadors. There is more emphasis on listening and engaging on specific topics, as well as integrating subject matter experts into the content strategy.
