The Bears had put the NFL on notice with a big win over the (then) Redskins a couple of weeks prior, but they had a big score to settle when they went to San Francisco in week six in a rematch of the 1984 NFC Championship game. The Bears punched the Niners in the face early and often, Jim McMahon made some great throws (and one absolutely horrible one) and when it was time to finish things off, they did what they did best on offense, they gave the ball to Walter Payton, a lot. The defense harassed Joe Montana from the very start and the Niners were so overwhelmed they committed a lot of penalties. Some rookie wide receiver for the Niners made his first-ever start. Let's just say there are a LOT of Hall of Famers in this game. Dick Stockton and the immortal Wayne Walker were on the call for CBS. And wait until you hear the breakdown of Wayne's NFL career. It's really something. All that, and much more. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/desipio/message
From his boyhood days spent listening to baseball's legendary voices to one magic moment at Fenway to the countless calls on the hardcourt and gridiron, it's been a dream come true for the great Dick Stockton.

Those who were around remember when Larry Bird clinched his first NBA title in 1981, but the real battle for playoffs survival came in the Eastern Conference finals against Philadelphia 76ers following a pulsating season that saw little separate the two franchises. For Episode 6 of the Box Score Show, Kevin Chroust and Chris DeSalvo take you back to that memorable campaign, focusing heavily on the three-game comeback from Boston that ended with what CBS' Dick Stockton dubbed “Bedlam at Boston Garden.” The Box Score Show is a production for The Analyst. Visit theanalyst.com for more data-driven storytelling or join in the conversation on Twitter and Instagram. Don't forget to check out our other podcasts as well, including our mini-series looking at the state of analytics. Our latest episode focuses on basketball, which quickly followed in the footsteps of its baseball contemporaries by embracing the data revolution. But by doing so, it ignited an – at times – public divide which boiled up into wars of words and shows no sign of slowing down. Great time chatting with friend & co-worker Michael Frank, we've worked on the Army Football package the last 2 seasons together, Michael is our TV director on the package. Over the last couple years, we've had several opportunities to chat sports and I'm always blown away about the stories Michael would share with me of his years in the business. He grew up in New York and at young age his dreams were to become a radio announcer. He attended UCLA and then began his journey in the world of Television Sports Broadcasting & he worked in my opinion, the greatest era of Sports Television, he was fortunate to work with Pat Summerall and John Madden, working in a couple of different roles, he tells several outstanding stories about his time working with Pat and John, amazing stuff. He's also worked with TV legends, Dick Stockton & Gary Bender & many others in his career. He's also worked several Masters golf tournaments in Augusta, GA, he tells some awesome stories about his time working those tournaments, including one in particular where he got to interview Jack Nicklaus after The Golden Bear finished his round, and a story about the 1988 NBA All-Star game involving a young Michael Jordan, great stuff!! Michael and I are both massive Seinfeld fans as well, so we chatted a little about that as well, enjoy!!

We pay for a special message from Devon Cajuste, #NotSorry, discuss where the Chargers could end up if their Los Angeles plans fall through, we celebrate another week with @BILLieve88 as our Bills Mafia member of the week, and we put our money where are butts are with our uneducated picks for week 7. Get your cringe on with Troy Aikman, Dick Stockton, Greg Jennings, Ian Eagle, Jason Witten, Mark Schlereth, and of course the Tony Romo. We put the Titans offensive line on blast with Dad Bod Zach, Woodie doesn't like Vontaze Burfict, Dibbs can't figure out Monday Night Football's Halftime Show and we wonder why Jerry Jones invited Conor McGregor to the Dallas Game. We try to classify the Patriots, Jets, Bills and Dolphins into stereotypes of kids you experience in high school. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/lacesorfaces/support
