The pathway we were on was only short, no more than 100m and it led out into the open onto football pitches and playing fields. As we were coming down the path towards the open grassland and rounded the slight bend we saw there was a large dark creature which was standing facing us, with its back to the football pitches. It was standing up on two legs and I can't honestly remember many of its features, but I remember thinking it looked like it was a dog that was standing up on its hind legs. I'd guess it was about 6-7ft tall.BBR Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/groups/britishbigfootresearch/Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/deborah-hatswell-bbr-investigations-cryptids-paranormal-unexplained-events--2840337/support.
What would you do if you came face to face with a ghostly hound? Would you reach out to pet it, or run the other way? And what if that spectral dog wasn't just a harmless apparition, but a chilling omen of death? In this episode, we explore two terrifying real-life encounters with ghost dogs in Wales - one a faithful spirit bound by loyalty, the other a sinister harbinger of doom. What happened when a man walking home through a mysterious valley discovered his own dog frozen in fear at the sight of a spectral collie? And why did a woman's innocent stroll past a quarry end with an eerie premonition that proved horrifyingly true? These aren't just mythological creatures like the legendary Cŵn Annwn of Welsh folklore - these are ghostly animals reported in the 20th century, with unnerving consequences for those who saw them. Are these phantom hounds restless spirits of departed pets, or something far more sinister? Join Mark as we uncover the eerie truth behind these spectral canines - and decide for yourself if you'd dare cross paths with a ghost dog. Explore the lore... if you dare! The Ghosts and Folklore of Wales podcast explores the eerie world of Welsh ghosts, ghost stories, lore, myths, and legends. Launched by author and journalist Mark Rees (Ghosts of Wales, Paranormal Wales) in early 2020, this weird and wonderful podcast delves into the country's countless curious subjects, blending decades of research from books and articles with long-lost tales from dusty old tomes. From "real-life" encounters with the uncanny to fantastical adventures from the Mabinogion, new episodes are uploaded monthly and feature everything from pesky poltergeists to fire-breathing dragons, with the odd wicked — and not-so-wicked — witch along the way. Alongside the regular stories, you can expect the occasional special guest, live ghost hunts, and all sorts of quirky surprises from a Welsh storyteller with original ideas. Seasonal specials include dark folklore and Gothic Halloween (Nos Calan Gaeaf) traditions, plus everyone's favourite skull-headed Christmas visitor, the Mari Lwyd. Dare you explore haunted Wales? From the sublime mountains and cascading waterfalls to bustling cities and remote farms, journey through the paranormal and unexplained in all corners of Cymru. Think of it as unlocking the Welsh X-Files with some tenuous Ghostbusters references and terrible sound effects along the way! Be sure to subscribe so you never miss a spooky episode. For dog lovers, pets aren't just animals—they're family. In this emotional episode, a listener shares the uncanny story of a dream that mirrored her sister's real-life heartbreak. Before learning about her sister's corgi, Thunder Horse, and his tragic passing, she dreamt of her own dog in eerily similar circumstances. The dream offered a unique premonition and an intense sense of empathy for her sister's loss. Was it coincidence, a psychic connection, or something more? Mark Norman is an English folklore researcher, author, lecturer and host of The Folklore Podcast in Devon, England. We begin with comparative readings about spectral road dogs in Virginia and in England. Mark tells us a bit about his county, of ship scuttlers & Wistman's Wood. Looking for the oldest written account of ghostly black dogs in the United Kingdom, we hear of The Anglo-Saxon Chronicle and a wild hunt of demonic hunters. From there we focus in on the lore: the Black Shuck event at Bungay & Blythburgh churches in 1577; black dog sightings as omens of death; and protective spirit dogs. We end on how landscape features become part of folklore, the future of folklore, and the winter tradition of Wassailing around the apple orchard. In this chilling episode, we delve into the true story of a listener who, at just seven years old, encountered spectral canines that would haunt not only his nights but his dreams for years to come. Fitness runs in my family, as does insomnia, anxiety and self punishment. I'm thrilled I was finally able to get my exceptionally talented, exceptionally busy half-brother scheduled for an interview. His ongoing relationship with his body and creative output was always part of my experience of what ‘working out' meant. Instead of mirrored gyms and fancy lycra, fitness in my family was more often, self directed and self expressive… Andre gives us a beautiful, articulate story of his own experience of fitness. Both painful and liberating I hope you enjoy this conversation as much as I did.Andre's latest book Ghost Dogs, is out now! Please check his website for his speaking and reading tour dates and upcoming book releases. Caveat - Andre is from a different time both in the world of health and fitness and as an older white male who has experienced the worst of patriarchy as well as the privileges it has bestowed on him. There are moments in this interview where our values and opinions do not align for example I don't think the fact that he and his wife are free of medication in their 60s is due solely to their healthy diet and exercise regime. I think they have access, education, genes and an untold amount of variables that have granted them the ease they are experiencing physically at their age. I also know that Andre would agree had I interrupted him at various moments. It is only due to my growth as an interviewer that I was not able to share that opinion. Please listen with that in mind. This week also debuts my NEW podcast sound edited from the song Wise One written by Robert Bryn @rob_bryn performed by local NYC band, The Wild Yaks @wild_yaksThanks to my producer @trainsoundstudioArt by myself and @aesthetics__frames Get full access to After Class with Cadence at cadencedubusbrooklynstrength.substack.com/subscribe

Back in 2019, while preparing for my first season of the Whiskey Lore Stories podcast, I took a trip to Scotland to learn the story of Cù Bòcan, the spectral animal that is said to haunt the village of Tomotin in the Scottish Highlands. I learned of the story while reading the back of a box of Tomatin's peated single malt Scotch and was curious to hear more. When I contacted the nearby community of Strathdearn, I was introduced to Duncan Bryden, a man knowledgable about the legends and history of the area. I met up with him and we took a walk through the woods across from the Tomatin Distillery and he helped fill me in on the history of the area, including the legends of the last wolf of Scotland, the story of the Witch of Laggan and other local tales. For the last 4 years, this interview has been tucked away, only available to my Patreon members. But since I am now putting all of my Whiskey Lore Stories episodes on YouTube, I thought I'd bring this back for all the new listeners to the podcast and the long time loyal listeners who just can't get enough history. Cheers! Drew

We got our information from America's Most Haunted The Secrets of Famous Paranormal Places by Theresa Agrie and Eric Olsen. This place has a little bit of it all, the spirit of a possible murder victim, a ghost dog, the ghost of a houseless man how lived in the Willoughby Coal and Garden Center, as well as a cup of coal, a bucket of tears, and maybe a bag of shit... ok the last one we made up but it fit with the story. There's nothing quite like a sweet, spooky story about our furry best friends being ok in the afterlife and that's exactly how we bookend this show. Between those stories, we're visited by shadow men, phantom footsteps, and a particularly unnerving news story from Ireland that will stop Bren from sleeping for a long, long time. Many people have wondered or hoped that beloved animals that die continue to live on in heaven, but a common opinion is that they don't. Jimmy Akin and Dom Bettinelli look at that claim and ask if there is any evidence that animals do, in fact, survive death. The post All Dogs Go to Heaven? (Ghost Dogs! It's a Halloween edition of Danish and O'Neill! Remember, please check candy for razors, foreign objects, and other tom foolery! We start the show with a quick update on a topic from episode 318: Chuck Liddell's arrest. We set the record straight, as Chucky wasn't charged with anything. That leads us right into talking about Connie Mac making headlines again by allegedly assaulting an Italian DJ (one who lives in Italy, not some guy in Long Island or the Jersey Shore). Then, there's a SPOOKY update about friend of the show, John J. Little. Please, send peaceful non-ghost/non-dog attack vibes John's way during this trying time. And also thoughts and prayers to the poor maintenance man at his hotel, too! After that, it's the classic example of a lawyer trying a hilarious Halloween prank (that others didn't find very funny at all). After that, it's the mysterious case of a ninja, who causes chaos during a military training exercise. Can this man be stopped? What does he want? Do you know who he is? What about his family? These questions will make sense if you listen. If they don't, ask a listening buddy for help, and they'll explain it. Then, it's off to the Daddy Man's favorite place, Tik Tok, where a woman details a not-so-nice Halloween trick she was on the receiving end of. Speaking of tricks, another laaaaady, ran onto a football field of minors wearing nothing but a scarf. Hear her defense and see if you side with her. Who knows, maybe you'll be on the jury! You can never be too prepared. This somehow leads into a long riff-athon about what it would be like if Earl "the Daddyman" Skakel went to prison. We end with a quick Dog the "bounty hunter" (that should ALWAYS have to be in quotations...you know why!) update. This one will fit nicely in your pillowcase or plastic pumpkin full of candy. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Legendary ghost hunter Richard Senate is a prolific writer with many available titles, but his latest book Ghost Dogs of California caught my eye. Man's best friend, like man himself, persists after death. These tales of haunting hounds date back to the earliest records of history. California has her fair share of four-legged phantoms, from demon dogs to loyal pets still by their master's side, even in the afterlife. But Richard also has tales of other members of the animal kingdom as well, so we decided to not limit the stories to just the canines. From Hell Hounds in the United Kingdom, to celebrity pets who are together again with their beloved humans on the other side, to Richard's personal experiences with animal spirits, we managed to squeeze in many stories for you to ponder and enjoy. Are they just folklore or something more?

This episode, Jason has a discussion with Simon Strantzas where they talk Clive Barker, weird fiction, how to build character, and the stories within his latest collection Nothing is Everything. Then Jason and Michael discuss the 1981 horror film Dead and Buried.Times:Intro: 00:00Simon Strantzas Interview: 05:30Dead and Buried: 38:32Outro: 58:01Thank you for listening! Please leave a review on iTunes! Contact us:darknessdwellspodcast@mail.comwww.wheredarknessdwells.comFind Simon online:http://strantzas.com/Interview questions for quick reference:1. How were you introduced to horror and weird fiction?2. You wrote an introduction to Steve Rasnic Tem's collection, Hidden Figures. How did that come about?3. How do you differentiate between weird fiction and magic realism?4. How do you write in a literary style? I find that literary, or at least contemporary is more about people living their lives and are interrupted by horror when horror typically deals with the horror element more straight on.5. How do you pull and flesh out a fictional life in your work?6. You add these elements very well into the stories within you're the latest collection, Nothing is Everything. The Fifth Stone, I think might be one of the better examples. You have a woman's entire life in one short story, and it works. It's one of my favorites from the collection. What was the genesis behind this story and how did you take that idea and turn it into what it is? 7. The first story, In This Twilight, I'd say hit me the hardest. I think because it's locations are very familiar to me. I talked to you about this over Facebook Messenger and you said that you like to take liberties with your Central Ontario, Canada settings, which I noticed. But I felt that In This Twilight almost took place in a different reality that only resembled our own. Was that part of the idea behind writing it?8. There are also stories like Ghost Dogs where it's almost as though you dropped some LSD and began typing once the drug took hold. Do you know when beginning a story how surreal it's going to become or is the surrealism in your stories a more organic experience for you when writing?9. The Terrific Mr. Toucan is another favorite. I love the hallucinatory feel to a magic show where the audience thinks that it's all an illusion of some sort but are ignorant of something very real going on. 10. Some of these stories I will, especially the ones I mentioned, are ones that I will reread again and again. You posted on Facebook a couple of weeks ago a list of stories you keep returning too. They were: - “Macintosh Willy” by Ramsey Campbell - “Afterward” by Edith Wharton - “The Beckoning Fair One” by Oliver Onions - “Smoke Ghost” by Fritz Lieber - “Our Supervisor's Temporary Town Manager” by Thomas Ligotti - “Ringing the Changes” by Robert Aickman What are some of the elements in a story that will make you go back and reread more than once?12. Who are you reading today that you're excited about?13. I was saddened to hear of Wilum Pugmire's recent passing, were you a fan of his work at all?14. What do you have coming out soon that readers can look forward to?15. Where can listeners find you online?
