There's no doubt that, today, we live in a toxic world. Instances of diseases of the body, such as diabetes and cardiovascular disease, have gone up in recent decades and so have instances of diseases of the mind, things such as ADHD as well as anxiety and depression. My guest today, Dr. Pat Boulogne, is one of the people out there trying to help people overcome some of these challenges that we have in our modern world to create a healthier existence, both physically and mentally. --- Dr. Pat, welcome to the program. Thank you so much. I am so thrilled to be here with you and share time. Thank you so much for taking your time out. And, first, I want to start out by talking a little bit about what it is that you do in your practice. Well, I really don't have a practice, per se. I am a consultant and I'm a coach and what I do is I help people in their health goals, in their wellness goals, in their mindset goals so that they can go from point A to point C in the quickest way possible that's safer and also with simpler solutions that are not harmful. So, there's ways to do that and understanding where somebody's at to get them to that point, I do and I help people organize that thought process and like simplified steps so that they have the checklist. I love seeing people thrive and I bend over backwards to do it. That's part of the reason I started this podcast, hope to inspire people to look into what they can do to thrive. One of the questions I have is do you encounter more of the physical or more of the mental challenges or do you see them as going hand in hand? Well, my premise for when I talk about what health is and what health isn't, because it's not merely the absence of disease and I agree with the World Health Organization on that part of the definition, the health part of it is much more integrated with our daily lives. How do you perform every day in order to go from point A to point C? And when you start lagging and you start going like, “Oh, I'd rather do something else,” or you're like, “I gotta take a nap, I'm depleted by noontime, can't even wait 'til five o'clock and you got to take a nap,” because you have to take a look at what kind of foods that you're eating. So when you ask about mindset, I talk about five pillars of health and the first part of the health that I talk about is food, exercise, I talk about sleep, I talk about positive mindset and positive mental attitude, and I talk about structured function, which is basically proper posture, but the key component to make all those other four pieces successful is the mindset and the positive mental attitude because if you go in saying like, “I'm gonna try this diet,” you automatically are going to have an issue with it. There's something that's going to make you struggle and it clicks off this thing in your head that tells you that you're like, “Oh, you're not gonna be successful,” even though you don't say it to yourself.

Pat had an unconventional medical career but she has always been focused on one thing making sure she can help people live healthier lives. She found her purpose by accident. She was finishing up her residency and realized that so many patients were not getting better and doctors were not happy. She decided she did not want to become a doctor. Later she went to a chiropractor who made her feel better and she realized that is what she wanted to do. That led to her later going on to learn acupuncture and other healing techniques. Of course we hope you've also subscribed to our channel. Dr. Boulogne's younger years, growing up in a neighborhood of mainly boys, put her in a more explorative environment as curiosity about Nature led her into places girls weren't necessarily going. She relates that growing up that neighbors just didn't lock their doors. It's much different today and kids don't often have the opportunity to explore Nature. She relates her process of being introduced to Oriental Medicine and that during her early years she had been working toward PreMed and had all the credits necessary. It occurred to her that the hospital wasn't really a place for people to get healthy, especially when life's activities were much healthier activities. We corroborate that the focus of our attention, intention and interactions are primary functional disciplines that lead to changing lifestyles from the gloomy to the glorious, even for the terminally ill. Pat offers that even watching 'happy' movies and shows are effective in changing the body's chemistry which was also mentioned by Dr. Melissa Hughes in a previous interview. Dr. Boulogne talks about a time when her office location had a tree for hugging, just outside her door. She'd recommend giving it a hug, which sometimes caused a bit of reticence in her patience due to the 'odd' behavior and its perception by others, "What if someone is watching?" Her response, "Who cares?" So what. Live joyously. It's your health. Our conversation moves to the inner and outer 'talk' going on with most people. Dr. Pat shares that is is just 'talk' and that the true power in oneself is realizing we are in charge of our thoughts. She shares in such cases of realization, it's like a rocket ship for better life experiences when one realizes they are in charge of their thinking. Check in to her comments about having superpowers. What is/are yours? Pat mentions she operates on a kind of Einstein's time theory where she has her list of things that need to be done and the time allotted for accomplishing them. She states that turning her attention, intention and interaction toward achieving those 'goals' for the day more often than not allows her to complete the tasks and have time left over. Imagine if you were able to craft your day with such precision and then allow the process of focus to create the flow of completion. Pat's sharing of her understanding and wisdom about the mammalian brain activity parallels my conversation with Dr. Hughes as well. We further discuss the trends of moving out of last centuries constrictive notions of command and control environments toward a more aware and open framework that can adapt and change through our mind flow. You've just got to listen to the rest of the discussion as it holds wonderful insights and revelations as to how we can alter our living awareness to include a much larger dynamic of life and is accompanied by the ability and capability for change. Pat: Thanks, I love being here, I am fired up and ready to go. Ken: In your book, you quoted a recent statistic that indicated in 2030, we will see approximately 50% of our population stricken with a chronic illness. WOW, so your bestselling book is about what we can do right? Tell me about that and the title? DR. Pat First, that statistic came out before the pandemic. The pandemic just signified wow we have a lot of sick people and we don't even know it. That stat is real it could even be pushed up a couple of years because of this last year and a half. Think about it a lot of people didn't know they were sick or how they felt and the such. But you didn't ask me about that exactly you asked me about my book. My book is called “Why are you Sick Fat and Tired.” I had a businesswoman in one of my groups, and she told me I'm not sick I'm not fat, and I'm not tired. I said oh contraire. I said because… What the book does, is this book is an advocating tool, a guidebook, and a tool to use to find out what's going on in your health snapshot now. So, it asks about 11 different organ systems, and your body, now these 11 organ systems fit together like a Swiss watch. So, if the Swiss Watch piece is broken, something else is going to break someplace else. If it's starting to slow down because it is starting to wear out, something else is going to happen someplace else. They all interrelate with each other. There is not a process that doesn't require time. Now when you're looking at how things are connected just keep thinking about the spiderweb. Each is just one piece of a much larger puzzle. Think about it shooting out and connecting to everything so that it all pieces together. We can use the book to find the weakest and strongest links. The weakest link will be your highest scores and the strengths will be your lowest because you have to have something working for you. Because eventually what happens in that scenario is that the organ system keeps on getting taxed so that it gets taxed to a point where it starts affecting your immune system.
