Working Mom Moments | Work Life Balance, Schedule, Overwhelmed Mom, Career and Kids, Mom Motivation, Mom Guilt

Ever heard a message so good you wanted to replay it over and over again? Well...that's today's episode! Even executives who appear to have it all together struggle with the same working mom guilt that many women are conflicted with. In today's episode, we're talking with former Google Global Executive, Erika Gerdes about the hidden layers of working mom guilt.  Among my favorite truth bombs she drops are the following quotes:  "What we are calling mom guilt is not guilt at all. It's shame... Guilt is what allows us to make a slightly different decision. Shame is what keeps us going and never stopping." "So much of what motivates us is continuing to do more and be more... when we do more, when we become more, then we will be enough." "We're running away from failure... we're running away from being seen for what we fear we actually are, that we're failures, that we're mediocre, that we're replaceable." Buckle up - this is going to be a ride to remember. But a necessary journey to walk through in order to gain confidence as working moms. To connect with Erika, you can find her on LinkedIn or at her website, www.erikagerdes.com. As always, you can reach out to me at info@lacyjungman.com or at www.lacyjungman.com. If you were scrolling through your newsfeed in late September 2021, you may have caught this splashy headline from The Times of London that read, “Can this man save the world from artificial intelligence?”. The man in question was Mo Gawdat, an entrepreneur and senior tech executive who spent several years as the Chief Business Officer at GoogleX (now called X Development), Google's semi-secret research facility, that experiments with moonshot projects like self-driving cars, flying vehicles, and geothermal energy. At X, Mo was exposed to the absolute cutting edge of many fields — one of which was AI. His experience seeing AI systems learn and interact with the world raised red flags for him — hints of the potentially disastrous failure modes of the AI systems we might just end up with if we don't get our act together now. Mo writes about his experience as an insider at one of the world's most secretive research labs and how it led him to worry about AI risk, but also about AI's promise and potential in his new book, Scary Smart: The Future of Artificial Intelligence and How You Can Save Our World. He joined me to talk about just that on this episode of the TDS podcast.

In today’s world, there is no telling exactly who is in charge of a company’s IT Department. Is it the CTO? Sometimes. But what about the CIO? Yep, they often are the IT czars, too. But at Checkr, it’s neither. Instead, the IT Department falls under the jurisdiction of Cory Louie, Checkr’s Chief Trust and Security Officer.  Cory’s path to technology was definitely not straight, but no matter what his job was there was always a common theme. From Law enforcement to the Secret Service to working at Google, Dropbox and even in the White House, everywhere Cory went, he pursued a higher purpose.  On this episode of IT Visionaries, Cory takes us through his life and career and gets deep in the weeds about how technology is changing how security is done across industries. Key Takeaways: The importance of choosing your title and understanding your role. The challenges of being the CISO at the White House. What does the future of security look like? Why Cory always looks for a higher purpose in his work. Salesforce and MIT recently teamed up to create a whitepaper exploring what happens when AI meets CRM. Wassup guys, I had a blast doing episode 38! I had some dear friends on - our biz guest was my boy Mansoor Panawala, a Harvard grad and currently Google exec whose team's responsible for $2.5bn in revenue! We also had my good friend on Carinda Rae Larson, a comedian -- who by the way, works at a bar next to the Chicago Board of Trade -- she gave us some good inside scoop on what some of the floor traders are like that come into her bar! The markets this past week basically did nothin'. What we DID get was the Mueller report. Bottom line? Y'all better get ready for some even stronger markets on the back of this report! Democrats done messed this up BIG TIME ... Trump likely in for 4 more years. We then get into some Google stuff with Mansoor - craziest thing? 2 Chainz is a regular visitor at Google headquarters! We also dig into Mansoor's Harvard MBA - does a Harvard degree guarantee REAL business success? Finally, Yahia from our investment posse speaks truth about why he's really on this podcast - dude's been making money off of it by tellin' lil old ladies he knows money and then they ask him to manage theirs! Chillax and enjoy the episode! SHOW HIGHLIGHTS: 0:30 Driving vs. flying between states 4:17 Return to talking about Mansoor 8:54 The Mueller Report. No conclusive evidence against Trump himself. Russia interfered with the election- but US does the same? 11:00 Defining the Mueller Report 12:10 Why do we care about this? Legislation’s impact on the stock market. Trump’s influence on stocks → keep investing! Mansoor’s take on the Report 17:00 Carinda’s take on the stock market and ‘Chicago Trader’ inside info 26:00 60-20-20 27:50 Our economy is built to make the rich richer, but stock market can help you level the field 28:30 Yahia & Nurse at the "Battle of the Badges" 39:10 Next topic: IPO’s, Zoom, Pinterest 46:00 The OTHER Zoom stock results 59:20 Mansoor advising a prince and a whole country 1:00:00 Different kinds of people in the consulting/finance industry 1:03:58 Work Ethic trumps education 1:04:10 Google in the news 1:06:00 Mansoor’s expectations for working at Google vs. the reality 1:09:30 What does Mansoor actually do for Google? $100 bil of revenues. “Pity clicks” 1:14:00 How much is Google watching?
