Rather than examining purely the technical, the text focuses on the narrative and how stories can best be structured, created, and then told in virtual immersive spaces. Author John Bucher examines the timeless principles of storytelling and how they are being applied, transformed, and transcended in Virtual Reality. Interviews, conversations, and case studies with both pioneers and innovators in VR storytelling are featured, including industry leaders at LucasFilm, 20th Century Fox, Oculus, Insomniac Games, and Google.A BEST PRACTICE GUIDE TO SEX AND STORYTELLINGA great deal of storytelling in film and television involves narratives that include sexual situations and nudity. The increased amount of online and streaming content outlets has, in turn, increased the number of narratives that involve these once-taboo subjects. Often, even though directors and producers desire to handle such issues with professionalism, sets become awkward when producing these scenes. A Best Practice Guide to Sex and Storytelling serves as a helpful tool for guiding creators through these waters.MASTER OF THE CINEMATIC UNIVERSEMaster of the Cinematic Universe is a guide to the future of transmedia storytelling. Content creators of every flavor are constantly needing to expand the mediums they can work in. This volume serves as a resource for using the timeless truths of story structure to craft established as well as up-and-coming short-form media formats.STORYTELLING BY THE NUMBERSStorytelling By The Numbers is a collection of essays and articles that John Bucher has written for LA Screenwriter and a variety of other outlets. All are meant to strengthen storytellers and scriptwriters. Bucher examines trends and tropes found in current film and television and uses these examples to demonstrate how and why they work as storytelling devices. Writers from any genre, working with any type of narrative, can find jewels of wisdom and applicable nuggets for their own ideas. The collection also features ten powerful writing prompts to assist writers in creating or developing a script idea from a single character.Enjoy my conversation with John Bucher. This show is part of the Spreaker Prime Network, if you are interested in advertising on this podcast, contact us at https://www.spreaker.com/show/2664729/advertisement

Why do we need a new story & a better story? What story do people tell over and over across different cultures and times? Why can NFT sound like such an intriguing idea? This is Part 2 of our conversation with John Bucher, a Mythologist and professional storyteller, where we discuss the stories we keep retelling and the stories we need for the future. John is Creative Director for the Joseph Campbell Foundation and is also an author, podcaster, and speaker. He has worked with companies including HBO, DC Comics, The History Channel, A24 Films, The John Maxwell Leadership Foundation and served as a consultant and writer for numerous film, television, and Virtual Reality projects. John holds a PhD in Mythology and Depth Psychology and has spoken on 5 continents about using the power of story and myth to reframe how individuals, organizations, cultures, and nations are viewed.
It's so important to tell stories that are true, but why are some stories "more than true"? This is Part 1 of our conversation with John Bucher, a Mythologist and professional storyteller, where we discuss what storytelling is at a high level then deep dive into its significance, starting from the oldest stories we have.
"Growth's not automatic. You don't automatically get better. If you're going to get better, you're going to have to be intentional." - John Maxwell What is John's greatest leadership challenge? How do you uncover your blind spots? What separates the top 2% of leaders from all the rest? How can you reach your full potential? Why wasn't John good at hiring? What is John's cycle of success? A Leader in Leadership John C. Maxwell lives and breathes leadership. A #1 New York Times best-selling author, John has written over 50 books on the subject, which have sold more than 26 million copies worldwide. John was named the #1 leader in business by the American Management Association and topped the list of most influential leadership experts in Inc. Magazine. Through his companies and The John Maxwell Leadership Foundation, John teaches people how to unlock their potential. Having educated millions of people from every corner of the globe, John's advice is valued across the public and private sectors. All this growth has come from his steady hand at the helm. As he says, "Everything rises and falls on leadership." Question and Answer One thing John warns against is leading by assumption. You can't assume that all your employees are motivated by the same thing. Some may be driven by providing for their family, while others might want to work toward the greater good. Some might need words of encouragement, and some might need deadlines. The way to find out what your employees need is simple: ask them. John says if you ask your team what they need, they'll give you a blueprint on how to lead them. Let It Go A leader wouldn't be a leader without a team. John says it's imperative to trust your team and delegate responsibility. If you're managing everything, then your company will be limited by your capacity. To build bigger, you need other leaders who you trust to do their part. Those leaders will never grow if you're doing their work for them. A great leader empowers and equips his team so that they can become leaders as well. "The only way to grow your company is to grow leaders." Key takeaways: Failure and success aren't separate. They're part of the same process. John's cycle of success goes: test, fail, learn, improve, re-enter. Failure is essential to the system. Lead everybody differently. Ask your workers what they need and provide it. Setting expectations creates anticipation. People can't score if they don't know where the goalposts are, and they can't grow if you don't push them to do better. Hoskins guides you through four crucial steps leaders can take to build their future. As a leader, you will learn the importance of mastering the art of pivot, being flexible and able to “shift”, and not lose focus on your vision and mission
This Candid Conversation was recorded several weeks ago while John Maxwell and Mark Cole were in Israel spending time with some of The John Maxwell Leadership Foundation’s top donors. John wanted to make this trip unforgettable for those who support his vision and mission so faithfully, and he took this opportunity to share on the podcast what it takes to be an unforgettable leader. He also reflects on what he learned from his late friend Jack Welch about how to get yourself out of “the people pile” and set yourself apart from others. By asking how you can separate yourself from others in a positive way, you push yourself to be intentional, creative, curious, and confident. We have a special episode today. I wanted to discuss a topic that NEVER gets discussed until minutes before the cameras begin to roll, shooting sex scenes. Loving making or sex scenes are like walking through a field of landmines. I’ve shot these kinds of scenes in my life and it’s just uncomfortable for everyone on set. Today we have a guest who literally wrote a book on the subject, John Bucher. He is the author of six books including the best-selling Storytelling for Virtual Reality, named by BookAuthority as one of the best storytelling books of all time. John has worked with companies including HBO, DC Comics, The History Channel, A24 Films, The John Maxwell Leadership Foundation and served as a consultant and writer for numerous film, television, and Virtual Reality projects. The book that inspired this episode is A BEST PRACTICE GUIDE TO SEX AND STORYTELLING. A great deal of storytelling in film and television involves narratives that include sexual situations and nudity. The increased amount of on-line and streaming content outlets has in turn increased the number of narratives that involve these once-taboo subjects. Often, even though directors and producers desire to handle such issues with professionalism, sets become awkward when producing these scenes. I hope this episode serves as a helpful tool for guiding creators through these waters. Enjoy my conversation with John Bucher.
Bulletproof Screenplay Episode 50: We made it to 50 EPISODES! So grateful the show has taken off. Thanks for all the support! Today on the show we have storytelling guru John Bucher, who is a renowned strategist, communicator, and cultural mythologist based out of Hollywood, California. Disruptor named him one of the top 25 influencers in Virtual Reality in 2018. “John Bucher is an influencer. He’s one of our most prolific contributors.” — HBO He is the author of six books including the best-selling Storytelling for Virtual Reality, named by BookAuthority as one of the best storytelling books of all time. John has worked with companies including HBO, DC Comics, The History Channel, A24 Films, The John Maxwell Leadership Foundation and served as a consultant and writer for numerous film, television, and Virtual Reality projects. Currently, he teaches writing and story courses as part of the Joseph Campbell Writers Room at Studio School in Los Angeles and at the LA Film Studies Center. He has spoken on 5 continents about using the power of story to reframe how products, individuals, organizations, cultures, and nations are viewed. John is a prolific writer. STORYTELLING FOR VIRTUAL REALITY Storytelling for Virtual Reality serves as a bridge between students of new media and professionals working between the emerging world of VR technology and the art form of classical storytelling. Rather than examining purely the technical, the text focuses on the narrative and how stories can best be structured, created, and then told in virtual immersive spaces. Author John Bucher examines the timeless principles of storytelling and how they are being applied, transformed, and transcended in Virtual Reality. Interviews, conversations, and case studies with both pioneers and innovators in VR storytelling are featured, including industry leaders at LucasFilm, 20th Century Fox, Oculus, Insomniac Games, and Google. A BEST PRACTICE GUIDE TO SEX AND STORYTELLING A great deal of storytelling in film and television involves narratives that include sexual situations and nudity. The increased amount of on-line and streaming content outlets has in turn increased the number of narratives that involve these once-taboo subjects. Often, even though directors and producers desire to handle such issues with professionalism, sets become awkward when producing these scenes. A Best Practice Guide to Sex and Storytelling serves as a helpful tool for guiding creators through these waters. MASTER OF THE CINEMATIC UNIVERSE Master of the Cinematic Universe is a guide to the future of transmedia storytelling. Content creators of every flavor are constantly needing to expand the mediums they can work in. This volume serves as a resource for using the timeless truths of story structure to craft established as well as up and coming short-form media formats. STORYTELLING BY THE NUMBERS Storytelling By The Numbers is a collection of essays and articles that John Bucher has written for LA Screenwriter and a variety of other outlets. All are meant to strengthen storytellers and scriptwriters. Bucher examines trends and tropes found in current film and television and uses these examples to demonstrate how and why they work as storytelling devices. Writers from any genre, working with any type of narrative can finds jewels of wisdom and applicable nuggets for their own ideas. The collection also features ten powerful writing prompts to assist writers in creating or developing a script idea from a single character. Enjoy my conversation with John Bucher.
In part two of this series, John Maxwell shares that possibility thinking is the mindset that allows energy to build. He describes the four P’s of energy: possibility thinking, passion, praise, and progress. Tapping into all of these resources creates an ongoing cycle of energy, results, and growth. Mark Cole and Richard Chancy ask the question, “What possibility is in your life, which with a little bit of thinking, could lead you to experiencing significance?” Mark shares the example of John entertaining the possibility of developing curriculum for youth just a few years ago, and now six million students are impacted by it around the world.
