One of our favorite things is introducing you to authors making their first appearance on the podcast, and today that author is Joseph Farrell. Like so many writers from the pulp magazine era, he left no personal history behind. We don't know where he was born, what he did outside of writing, or any details about his life. What we do know is that Farrell published sixteen science fiction short stories between 1943 and 1962, carving out a small but memorable place in vintage science fiction. Today's story comes from the very beginning of his career. From Beyond the Stars by Murray Leinster. That's next on The Lost Sci-Fi Podcast. One of the questions we hear quite often is, Why did so many science fiction authors use pen names? There were actually several reasons. Magazine editors usually didn't want a single issue to look as though it had been written by just one person, even if one author had supplied several excellent stories. Writers also sold stories to competing magazines, experimented with different styles, or simply wanted the flexibility of publishing under multiple names. Today's story is a perfect example. If you pick up the June 1947 issue of Thrilling Wonder Stories, you'll see that From Beyond the Stars is credited to Will F. Jenkins, one of the many pen names used by William Fitzgerald Jenkins—the author we know today as Murray Leinster. So why didn't he simply use Murray Leinster? Because the same issue already featured another Murray Leinster story, The Boomerang Circuit. Publishing both stories under the same byline would have made it obvious that one writer dominated the magazine. But there's another twist. A third story in that very issue, The Nameless Something, is credited to William Fitzgerald, another variation of his own name. The result? Of the seven stories published in the June 1947 issue of Thrilling Wonder Stories, three were written by the same man—William Fitzgerald Jenkins. By using three different bylines, the magazine appeared to showcase a wider range of authors, while readers unknowingly enjoyed three stories from one of science fiction's most prolific and influential writers. We began the talk in the far ancient past as we try and unravel the mysterious origins of man. Joseph gave us his thoughts on Zacharia Sitchins work as he states his own ideas as to the origins of humanity and how the human race began. He gave us his thoughts on why the God of the Old Testament in the Bible is a Doom and Gloom kind of God. He also talked about Genesis 1:26, “Come let us make man in our image and after our likeness” and he gave a good explanation to that verse. He explained how Christianity will eventually catch up to terms that its origins are more Egyptian than anything else.He also explained how Mars had a civilization long, long ago and the people there had some type of cataclysmic type event that destroyed all life on the red planet. He mentioned how Mars may have been a moon to another planet that exploded which created the Asteroid Belt. While on the Mars topic we discussed how Cairo, Egypt means “Place or Camp of Mars”. And that could possibly tie in the connections to the Face and Pyramids on Mars with the Pyramids and Sphinx in Egypt.

Joseph Farrell joined us for a discussion on the connection between UFOs and the Nazi's Third Reich, and presented a very different scenario of what crashed in Roswell, New Mexico in July of 1947. "If, two years after the end of World War II, something Nazi crashes in the New Mexico desert," he said, "then, yes, that's going to get the American military to panic." This panic, Farrell believes, caused them to create the "UFO v. weather balloon" debate which has persisted to this day and, thus, pushed all other theories into the peripheral. He detailed a number of issues surrounding the Roswell story which suggest that the downed craft was of terrestrial, but non-American, origin. For instance, Farrell noted that witnesses, who saw the Roswell debris, observed numbers on the wreckage. This, he surmised, suggests an Earthly origin since it is highly unlikely that ETs would be using our symbols for there numeric system. On the subject of the beings allegedly recovered from the crash, he asserted that, based on the vast majority of the accounts, there is "nothing that compels to the fact that these were extraterrestrial beings. We simply have very odd looking humans." Apparently, this idea was shared by the Army personnel who arrived at the scene, since Farrell said that one witness claims that the recovery team attempted to speak Japanese and German to the crash victims. Taking these aspects of the event into account, Farrell advanced his alternative theory that the downed craft at Roswell was really a version of the erstwhile Nazi project known as The Bell. According to his research, work on the Bell can be traced from Germany to Argentina following World War II. To that end, he revealed that immediately following the Roswell crash, the US Army re-opened the security classification files of the former Nazis that were brought to America via Project Paperclip. Additionally, he cited the testimony of Col. Philip Corso, who Farrell contends, "hints, repeatedly throughout his book, that there is some apparent Nazi 'look' to the technology that they had recovered." Ultimately, Farrell theorized that the displaced Nazis were "sending a message to their former enemy that 'we have a technology that you cannot touch.'
