The results from the most consequential election in Canada's history are in, revealing a political landscape fraught with uncertainty and potential upheaval. Is Pierre Poilievre finished as Leader of the Conservatives after shockingly losing a 20-point lead, particularly after Bruce Fanjoy's stunning victory in Carleton? With tensions rising and his team embroiled in public disputes with Ontario Premier Doug Ford, can he weather the storm, or will he succumb to the pressures from within his party? Moreover, what does this mean for the future of the Liberal Party? Does Carney have the strategic prowess to secure the three seats needed for a majority by forging sound alliances with the NDP or Elizabeth May? Or is he in such a commanding position that he doesn't even need their support, as the Bloc, NDP, and Green MPS staunchly oppose the Conservatives?Let's not overlook the ramifications of Alberta Premier Danielle Smith's escalating threats to separate from Canada unless Prime Minister Carney meets her demands. Will the implications of this be monumental, shaking the very foundations of our federation? Or is it just a bitter response to Carney's victory? As we look ahead to upcoming elections in cities like Hamilton, we must ask: What will happen now that high-profile candidates are without a political platform? Will they seek open council seats or run in the mayoral races?Join our panel, Mark Cripps, Keith Leslie, and host Laura Babcock as they dive deep into these pressing questions, providing insightful analysis that you won't want to miss. In the wake of shocking developments—Trump's MAGA regime arresting a sitting judge and Poilievre intensifying his MAGA rhetoric surrounding woke policies and using the notwithstanding clause on crime —Canadians are faced with a critical choice in the upcoming election. Will these alarming events rally more support for Mark Carney, or will Poilievre's recent surge in polls signal a potential Maple MAGA movement rising to power in Canada? We are at a pivotal moment. Premiers Ford and Douglas appear to be distancing themselves from Poilievre, perhaps sensing the looming threat of a Conservative defeat. News stories report he may even lose his seat in Carleton to Bruce Fanjoy. Meanwhile, as Putin escalates attacks in Ukraine, the world watches closely for Canada to take a stand against the tide of fascism. Our Scandal Panel, featuring Mark Cripps and Keith Leslie, joins host Laura Babcock to issue a dire warning: Now is not the time for complacency or division among the left. With Bloc Québécois Leader Blanchet's comment labelling Canada as an “artificial country” and hints of western separation from Premier Smith and Preston Manning, we face an unprecedented crisis that could jeopardize the future of our democracy.Let's come together as Canadians who value our democratic principles. This election is crucial—it's our opportunity to make our voices heard and safeguard our shared future. We cannot afford to let divisions between parties weaken our stand. The stakes have never been higher in a Canadian election, and we can't afford to sit on the sidelines. The OShow Scandal Panel is urging you to VOTE NOW in the Advance Polls this Easter long weekend! Join host Laura Babcock, alongside Mark Cripps and Keith Leslie, for a serious and sometimes hilarious discussion about the Leaders' Debates, campaign scandal and the issues Canadians will vote on in this election. We must be vigilant against the rise of authoritarianism, as seen in Trump's regime, which is steering many Canadians away from visiting America and the MAGA movement infiltrating our political landscape in Poilievre's Conservative Party. The endorsements for Poilievre from the most vile members of the American MAGA Regime should give every Canadian serious concerns. Why won't he disavow them? Who is running the Canadian Conservative Party? Now more than ever, we need to rally together and vote for the Liberal Party, led by the 'Rockstar Economist' Mark Carney. With Carney at the helm, we can strengthen our economy and safeguard our sovereignty and resources. The threats of Western separation by Premier Danielle Smith and others could have serious consequences for Pierre Poilievre and his Conservative Party in Alberta. Additionally, Premier Ford's comments about Poilievre's campaign could hurt their chances in the vote-rich province of Ontario. But polls and projections don't win elections! While Canada's economy faces the repercussions of Trump's chaotic tariffs, Prime Minister Mark Carney's expertise in economics and relationships with foreign leaders makes him a global leader, and his Liberal Party now stands as a powerful symbol of national unity. The latest polls reflect this resurgence, showing that the Liberals have an impressive 10-point lead over the Conservatives, and Carney has a staggering 20-point advantage as the preferred leader. But what about Pierre Poilievre and the MAGA Conservative Party? Can they adjust their strategy to narrow this gap? Despite the current polls, Poilievre's enthusiastic rallies suggest more momentum might be brewing than we realize. If the Liberals continue their upward trajectory, could the threat of separation from Premier Daniel Smith backfire against Poilievre and his party? With NDP support plummeting, is this the first time the Left will unite to fight the Right? This election is not just another political event; it's arguably the most critical moment in Canadian history, with our sovereignty on the line. Meanwhile, Mr. Ford went to Washington and failed to convince the Trump regime of anything. This is a special EXTRA edition of On the Ledge. John Wright, Keith Leslie and Dave Trafford explore the question of leadership as an underlying ballot question in Canada's federal election. There are several provincial and regional issues that have surfaced during the federal campaign but they have only been "used to divide" Canadians rather than viewed as matters that require federal attention and leadership. There has been a presumption that this campaign was a referendum on Premier Doug Ford's leadership in Ontario. But considering the way the polls have developed, it's apparent that this election may well be a referendum on leadership right across the country. Given the the voter mood, it would be easy to suggest Canadians have recognized a complete void of leadership on issues they need addressed.

Justin Trudeau barely gets through a stump speech or a Q&A with media without mentioning Doug Ford's name multiple times. He accuses the Ontario premier of taking care of his rich pals and cutting essential services intended to support the most vulnerable. Trudeau says a Scheer government in Ottawa would do the same or worse. The strategy is fairly transparent. The Liberals are not only linking Andrew Scheer to an unpopular premier, they're baiting Ford to engage in the federal campaign. But try as they may, the Trudeau Liberals have not been able to draw Ontario Premier Doug Ford into the fight. Ford has been highly disciplined through the writ period, sitting quietly on the sidelines since the Governor General dissolved parliament on September 11th. And, it would appear, the federal Conservatives are fine with that strategy. And it became all the more pronounced when Scheer made several stops in Ontario in the past week, glad-handing and door knocking with Jason Kenney at his side. Yes, Scheer was stumping with Alberta's premier in Ontario while Doug Ford remained out of sight. Our panelists, John Wright, Partner at Dart, Keith Leslie, CH Television commentator, Dave Trafford, Executive Producer iContact Productions, and special guest Melissa Lantsman, VP Hill and Knowlton ask the question: Was it good strategy or an explicit political admission that Ford is toxic?

The Writ Race has been run and Ontarians elected a new Progressive Conservative majority government on June 7, 2018 - led by rookie MPP Doug Ford. Premier Ford faces New Democratic Leader Andrea Horwath as the leader of the Official Opposition in the legislature. They may be barely 'two sword lengths' apart in the House, but they are miles apart on what they think is best for the province. Dave Trafford, Executive Producer of iContact Productions, John Wright, CEO - Insight of Dart Insight and Communications, and veteran Queen's Park journalist, Keith Leslie take a weekly look at Ontario politics from their perch "On the Ledge". We are almost through the Dog Days of Summer and there's no sign that the Ontario legislature is ready to take a break from it's 'rare' summer session following the June election. The Ford government has opened the valve on a fire hose of announcements and new initiatives, including an end to the York University strike, scrapping cap and trade, blowing out the Hydro One CEO as promised. But the new government has decided to take on Toronto City Council, gangs and gun violence, and a commitment to have buck-a-beer on a shelf near you by Labour Day. It's been an unprecedented and breathless approach for a cast of new MPPs (on both sides of the house) who haven't had much if any time to get settled in their new political skin. John, Keith and Dave say the Tories need to realize they won the election - stop the campaigning, (including the "round of the clap" that seems to accompany every ministerial news avail at the Park). Take a break from the Ledge and come up with a thoughtful plan on how they're going to prepare for the next 12 months of governing.

Week number three of this Queen's Park session started with fireworks in the Ledge over the Ford plan to downsize Toronto City Council. Premier Ford recalled the legislature for a rare summer sitting to tackle a number of the issues the Tories have deemed to be critical. That includes passing legislation to end a months long strike at York University, repealing the provincial 'sex-ed' curriculum, cancelling the province's 'cap and trade' plans, tackling 'hallway healthcare', and ordering an audit on the provincial books. The 'git er done' attitude plays well with most Ontarians, who would appear to be willing to give the new government a chance to prove itself. The challenge of such a quick start is introducing rookie MPs into cabinet roles and scrambling to get up to speed.
