Genevieve Gaunt is a talented British actress whose career has traversed stage and screen. From Michael Winterbottom's The Face of an Angel and American soap opera The Royals to playing Lynette “Squeaky” Fromme in a production of Stephen Sondheim's Assassins at Edinburgh Theatre Festival and voicing Lady Penelope in a recent Thunderbirds audiobook series, Gaunt boasts an eclectic array of credits. But her film career first kicked off as a child actor cast by Alfonso Cuaron in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. Widely regarded as the best instalment in the fantasy franchise, Gaunt's debut feature role was as Slytherin student Pansy Parkinson. Although her part was small, it was an impactful experience that she sat down with Hanna Flint to talk about… See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Richard Taylor started out by sculpting from clay harvested in the backyard and building model railroads with his father. These humble beginnings were the foundation for one of the most successful special effects careers of all time! He's a five-time Academy Award winner, a veteran of numerous big-budget productions (such as Lord of the Rings, Narnia, and Blade Runner 2049), and a producer of Thunderbirds Are Go (2015). James Watt talks to Sylvia Anderson about Thunderbirds
The Road More Scenic Roads are often used as a powerful metaphor for our life's journey. M Scott Peck wrote the famous, “The Road Less Travelled.” Robert Frost wrote a favourite poem of mine, “The Road Not Taken.” https://www.poetryfoundation.org/poems/44272/the-road-not-taken But I've chosen a different road that I'd like to share with you. It's the longer way to go, which I call, “The Road More Scenic.” I can share more with you if you watch the short 4 minute relaxation video I recorded. https://youtu.be/E6OIAUSZkVM On business that took me to Woodfalls in the New Forest last week, I deliberately took the Scenic Route allowing me the joy of the Avenue of Beech Trees at Moor Crichel (twice) as well as part of the Avenue of Beech Trees at Badbury Rings (twice though not shown on the video.) I suspect 25 minutes was added to my journey (with Lady Penelope riding shotgun). In return for that investment, my spirit and soul were fed, and my body too with a picnic in the car in the pouring rain outside St James' Church, Alderholt... magic (thought sad that St James is no longer, "Open for Prayer.") Other high points include the Pyramid of Moss and Brick near Hale Park House - I have no idea what this fascinating construction is for. Perhaps you can guess if you watch the video. Breamore Mill - stunningly squatting beside the River Avon and astride the mill race. The lit Christmas Tree was a nice touch too. The Tree of Life and Hope at Wimborne St Giles (my title... they may just call it, "Bob," or, "Uncle.") Ten thousand Snowdrops and enough Mistletoe to bruise your lips for a Century. I've never seen so much Mistletoe. En passant, spotting of the ruined Knowlton Church and the Philosopher's Tower (also not featured), Dorset landmarks dipped in history. To conclude, the Norman bridge at White Mill, over the River Stour, which is likely to be the oldest bridge in Dorset. On this day, the Stour swollen by so many showers… a raging, rushing, river commuting to the sea. Then there were Egrets. Egrets? I've had a few... My point? Enjoy the journey... the destination may be a bit grim and final. On our route we were overtaken several times by drivers clearly in more of a hurry... but for what? Press Pause and enjoy the journey. Now, it's your turn. What treasures do you delight in when you go out of your way to take The Road More Scenic? [And if you fancy another uplifting bonus, check out this gorgeous song by Darrell Scott, “And The River Is Me.” https://youtu.be/ZieYi8t_m3M ] I look forward to reading about your treasures. Thank You! If you'd like to say, "Thank You!" and fund the increased production of resources like this, you can support my work here: https://www.paypal.com/paypalme/lexmckee

Adrok, Bowdin and Chip leave out from the Roadhouse and return to Harbro's farm to secure more casks of the Special Mid-Summer/ShieldMeet Rye whisky blend before searching out other farms located on the macabre map. Their search leads them to a farm run by Emerald Hallowgrove. While her farm is on the map, she does not appear to have a problem with the undead. She does admit to encountering a small group of skeletons near the edge of her farm, but thinks little of it being so close to the Tanglebriar forest. When the group shows her the poison vials discovered on the scarecrow, she is concerned enough to ask the trio to carry a missive for her to her friends in WaterDeep. The group agrees and heads out to the South Gate of WaterDeep. Emerald does provide the names of two of Harbro's daughters living in the city.Upon entering the city, the trio is stopped by a Sergeant of the guard with a message from Lady Penelope reminding them to collect their reward for protecting the citizens of WaterDeep by slaying the troll and discovering the strange events with the other farms. The sergeant is helpful and provides direction to Erik Melendez shop, A Stitch in Tyme, not far from the South Gate. The trio make their next stop at the shop hoping to find some answers for Virren. At the shop, the group meets the three seamstresses who work for Erik, but have not seen him in a couple of days. Unable to convince Erik's employees of the danger he maybe in the group departs and searches out the Enclave to deliver Emerald's missive. The Enclave turns out to be a large park on the border of the South Ward and Trade Ward where like minded individuals gather for the good of the natural order. Two representatives of the Enclave accept the message and thank the trio for bring this to their attention. With that, Adrok, Bowdin and Chip need to decide their next move in WaterDeep.

After dispatching a quartet of skeletons and a scarecrow, Adrok, Bowdin and Chip find a mysterious map showing several farms south of WaterDeep. Along with the map, they find vials of a magical poison meant to fallow the land. Our adventurers continue to look for clues and the caskets of Harbro's Rye Whiskey Mid-Summer blend. After finding the whiskey and loading a wagon, the trio travels to another farm also found on the map. Finding their way to another farm, the trio discovers a macabre scene and a large troll squatting in the farm house. After a fight with troll, Lady Penelope, a griffin rider from WaterDeep, provides the adventurers aid and requests their presence in the North Ward of WaterDeep to bear witness to some of the farms near the Tanglebriar forest. After promising to meet Lady Penelope in WaterDeep, Adrok, Bowdin, Chip and their new found four legged companion, Kyle make the journey back to the Road House with hopes of making a little coin from Harbro's Rye Whiskey Mid-Summer blend.

What To Do When Hungry Autumn is upon us in England. The Season of mellow fruitfulness is predicated upon what was sown and nurtured in the Spring. I love the Natural Truth of seed-time and harvest. I'm hungry, are you? Hunger comes for many matters. The spiritual may hunger and thirst for ‘righteousness' – whatever that may mean. Others hunger for justice. Some may hunger for companionship. I hunger for a hug. A long hug. No patting. There's talk of the 5 Languages of Love. Hey, I even found a quiz for us all to try (https://www.5lovelanguages.com/quizzes/) I'm a tactile person – the kind of guy who used to go out of his way to use Wareham Post Office before the refit. Before the ‘improvement' the old wooden counter was sculpted by countless transactions – scooped out by the exchanges of currencies. I loved feeling the stories in the wood. If I trust someone, and am not tense, the best way to communicate is wordless. Touch speaks louder than words for me. A warm handshake, the cheek to cheek of a professional kiss, the full embrace of deep friendship… all are worth more than gold to me. Then along came COVID. Whoever is truly responsible has much to answer for. They've hurt our future – and that of our children in education. But the future is yet to come. I have something to say about this present hunger. I have hug hunger. And I am fully aware that this sounds like a callous first world problem! However, the psychobiology of the mind-body connection is irrefutable. Happy nerve-endings, happy soul. I'm hungry for hugs because my mind-body-system needs them! Wearing your mask, I cannot read your face… and I never was that much of a mind-reader. Wearing my mask, I literally cannot breathe at times. What can we do? We can call this the New Spring. We can intentionally sow that which we want to reap in the New Autumn. This means I need to give the gift of tactile kindness to those I'm allowed to do this to. That cramps my options but doesn't occlude them. For example, Lady Penelope (she under whose roof I shelter) isn't tactile… but she is in pain. Years of being on her feet at ASDA are taking their toll. Cuddly she ain't but give her a foot massage and I can hear the relief. Thus, foot massages it will be. Thus, if you are hungry – feed someone else. If you are thirsty – give someone else a drink (btw Majestic Wine deliver!) If you are discouraged – encourage someone else. You get the picture. Oh, and you could get a prize too, if you're in the UK. I've found a Scratch-Off Poster with 100 Random Acts of Kindness. Let's work out a competition where the prize-winner will be sent one of these as a random act of kindness from me! What we do to others, we do to ourselves (or so they say!) Right, I'm off to be a Sow-and-Sow! Ps. I did the test and my primary love language is “Physical Touch” – so what's yours?

Day 61 and this is the story of a British couple behind the police lines in Lockdown Spain, the real story of day to day life under the Alarma. The frustrations of a loss of freedom despite the Health Region reaching the criteria for the easing of Lockdown, the Government have decided though to keep us in Lockdown. Find out more: https://www.thesecretspain.com Day 61 - Civil Unrest and Manic Mondays It is Day 61 of our Spanish Lockdown, we have reached the point last week when we were hoping for a bit of freedom, by the end of today we should know, but last week the government didn’t tell us until Sunday afternoon. Just the ability to pop to the main town would be helpful, a few restaurants open anything that would bring a touch of normality to our life. Yesterday we spoke to our friends Shelley and Chris back in Essex. Apart from going for walks they have not left the house, though will need to next week to pick up medicine in central London. They will drive in and only one visit the Doctors. They shop online and use Amazon Prime to deliver anything else. They can both work from home, Shelley has done an amazing job turning the office-based company she works for into a virtual office in a matter of weeks. But she has had to work very long hours to achieve that. The one thing they miss is the freedom of spontaneity, you can’t just pop out to grab something from the shops as they have to say isolated. It is the same for us, we are being overwhelmed with rules and regulations by the Spanish Government and the Local Government – The Junta Andalucia. And both keep changing their minds. As a result, many are not sure when and where they can go out, or if they can travel to certain areas or how many should be in a car. The Police Guide frequently asked questions runs to a head popping 24 pages alone. As an antidote to all this misery I have been wallowing in old TV shows, I discovered a few days ago that they have made some new Thunderbirds episodes. Not the new Children’s TV series, but actual episodes of the 1960s show. It seems there were a number of sound records released with adventures using the voices of the original cast and they have extended those recordings with extra effects and made them into new episodes using reconstructed puppets complete with strings made of titanium. You might remember in Episode 43 I mentioned that my mother treated Chris a bit like Parker, whilst she was on holiday with us, Chris driving her around everywhere. I always like those Gerry Anderson TV shows, for one they were made in colour and on film so looked and sounded so much better than the other children’s shows around at that time. You can still watch an old episode and they stand up pretty well with the current TV shows for children. There was one night and that famous LBC Arts show, sometime during the mid 1980s when Gerry Anderson came in with two of the puppets, which I think were up for Auction, ‘Lady Penelope’ and her faithful Butler come Chauffeur ‘Parker’ I have to say close up, they were much larger than I expected and ‘Lady P’ bless had let her self-go, her hair was looking very Lockdown – and her dress a bit untidy – but she did have amazing eyes. Parker was in a worse state of repair. The solenoid that made his mouth work was connected to a piece of leather that had rotted, so his mouth hung open like some kind of idiot. He didn’t smell too good either. That kind of over handled 1960s child toy smell. But it was a pleasure to see them both close up without their strings. Day 61 and I have spent most of the day in our little recording studio recording the last few children’s literacy scripts, having work forces us into having a structured day. Although Chris can’t work at the moment as all the gyms here are closed, he fits in with my work pattern and will do something like an online class or watch a seminar whilst I record. Yesterday afternoon I spoke to our old neighbour Erika, who now lives nearby, although we cannot travel to see her, as that is not allowed. She says she is going out of her head, living alone she just has her cat for company, she can’t travel the few miles to see her friends as they are in a different Province. She hates going to the shops, putting the gloves on wearing a mask. On the way home a few days ago she saw a friend from the local town, they stopped, two metres and more apart and started to have a chat. At that point the police passed, slowed down to have a look at what they were doing. They both felt uncomfortable so decided to go their different way. It is very hard to undo human nature, we are social animals and crave fellowship, social interaction – and these last few months have been very hard, particularly if you are on your own. The Guardia Civil Police have produced a report, which has been leaked, where they fear if Lockdown restrictions are not eased, there could be isolated pockets of civil unrest in the Country. That, although understandable, would be a disaster for the whole country. Here we wait again to see if this coming Monday we shall enjoy a Happy Monday or another Manic Monday in Andalucia.
Day forty three, Parker and Lady Penelope. Life behind the police lines in Lockdown Spain for a British couple and their three good legs cat. Find out more at: https://www.thesecretspain.com Day 43 It is day 43 of our Spanish Lockdown and I was woken today by the noise of the traffic below us going to work. Which I guess is a good sign. So far only construction and manufacturing companies have been allowed back to work. The kids can go out to exercise and yesterday we witnessed scenes similar to the British parks, with families chatting away and kids playing with each other. It seems it is quite hard to explain social distancing to a three-year-old. We should be allowed out from Saturday the 2nd of May for short exercise walks etc. It will be interesting to see how that goes. The local main town has already frozen rent on the pavement café’s all around Motril, the Mayor, Louisa, is planning to allow restaurants to open for pre-booked take-aways. This will stop crowding and hopefully give some much-needed cash-flow for the restaurants. It is interesting that the right-wing Mayor of Motril has done her level best to support local industry, going so far as to offer a special City Certificate to all the children who have been locked down for so many weeks. Meanwhile on the other side of our bay in the Labour controlled town of Almuñecar, Mayor Trinidad has chosen to use the lockdown time to pull down the local market, on the grounds of safety. A very controversial decision, which has in the past caused people to demonstrate on the streets.. something they were unable to do these last few weeks, whilst the bulldozers tore the building down. Almunecar has suffered recently from past maladministration they have just been fined two million Euro for an illegal property deal, it does seem some of the old Spanish Practices are alive and well in some towns of Spain. It is quite hard to get news about Spain, due to the law that prevents Google from searching for news stories from the papers. A law that says the Internet is stealing the jobs of journalists by allowing people to link to newspaper sites was passed a few years ago. It does mean I have to rely on the local paper “The Seaside Gazette” and a local online Spanish paper “Motril Digital” for substantiation. The Press is in a major siege change across the world, we have all become reporters. On this computer I am taping out this Podcast, I have a camera that is of a higher quality than the ones we made at Marconi in the 1970s, and those colour television cameras cost thirty thousand pounds each, and struggled to deliver 605 lines in colour that stayed stable. The camera had to have two racks of equipment to maintain the picture quality. Now we are all reporters with our camera smart phones and Tik Toks, Instas, Zooms and the like. I don’t know why Spain chose to close itself off to the world, when it came to searching for news about the country, I don’t think it has served the press here very well. There also isn’t the same culture of reading a newspaper as there is in the UK. I guess sixty years of Franco, the only thing you were going to read in the press is stories that had been allowed by the regime, so ordinary Spanish maybe didn’t bother with a paper. Here in Andalucía illiteracy levels were, in the past, some of the highest in Europe from 1924 to the 1970s children left school here at fourteen to go work in agriculture. Franco looked upon southern Spain as a breadbasket for the rest of the country, with industry centred in the north. Spain still spends less GDP than the other EU 27 countries on education. Day 43 and I have been watching a video of the first radio station I worked for – Essex Radio. The original studios have been bought by a recording studio to make records and the like. It is a rather unpleasant thirty-minute trip from London to get to Southend, I hope though they will be successful and it is pleasing to see a place that was built more than forty years ago still functioning. A few years ago my mother visited us in our little flat in the village. Accompanied by my stepfather Brian and sister Ann - we spent a week showing them the local sights. We had to hire a very large Seat Alhambra so that we could take everybody in one car. I see we take, it was poor Chris who had to do all the driving in this enormous beast of a vehicle. When he was driving the oddest thing occurred, my mother completely ignored him, he said even Lady Penlope’s Parker was treated better. I don’t think it was intentional, but when at the end of the holiday we were at Malaga Handling and Chris went to say goodbye, at that very moment the buggy to take my mother and Brian to the gate arrived and my mother pushed Chris out of the way and jumped up into the vehicle to be whisked at some considerable speed away to their waiting flight, only my sister waving us goodbye as they disappeared into the scattering holiday makers waiting in queues for their flights. I have been spending a lot of time in our little studio recording online learning, so far today I have been a porcupine a duck a fox and a small girl, this afternoon I worked for another client for a medical product, for a moment it was quite hard to be a grown up, I wonder if the last few months of incarceration is slowly turning us all into little kids again. I have one friend who is making Lego and another doing jigsaws. Evening has come and it is time for my hot milk and cookies before I go to bed and dream of being an astronaut – good night everyone.
Look How Far... Let's imagine a T-junction. To the left is the past. To the right is the future. To the left is happiness. To the right is unhappiness. That doesn't make sense, does it? It makes even less sense when we realise that the natural tendency, in the example that follows, is to turn to the right every time. No, it doesn't make sense, but it's the truth in one very important choice point – a T-Junction – we all face regularly on Life's many journeys each day. The T-Junction in question is the choice on what to pay attention to as a comparison. This week I put in two days' worth of hard labour to tidy up my working space, and seek to get Lady Penelope's lounge back in order. You see, I'm a NIGHTMARE to live with. I spread out, I'm messy, I leave stuff everywhere. I have always been this way. But this is Penelope's house. She's been phenomenally patient and yet I know 'enough is enough'! Thus, I wholeheartedly put my shoulder to the task and just got on with it. I've made amazing progress, progress I am proud of. It's not there yet, but I was excited for Penelope to get home from work and look how far I'd come compared to how it was only two days ago. Her response what not what I desired. She intimated that there was so much left to do. I felt deflated. The T-Junction in question has two directions... To the left is "Look How Far I've Come." To the right is "Look How Far You've Yet to Go." One promotes a motivating sense of happiness – of progress from the past to the present. The other, an overwhelming sense of so much left to do – from the present to the future. Guess which one is the more productive, motivating, happy direction to look in! I say this today because you've come SO far. Yes, your life is not perfect, and, no, my life isn't perfect either... BUT we've come such a long way. To think I was considering suicide only a few months ago – and on multiple occasions – and now I have 'everything' to live for. If I look how far I've come, I am delighted. But if I look to the right, and think about all the things I need yet to sort out, I can feel the energy and joy seeping away... along with my motivation to take action! I've therefore decided to look left, to look how far I've come, and to rejoice in that. From that foundation of joy, I can take more steps forward knowing that I am moving forward. Will you look how far you've come too? Perhaps you'd share with us just how far you've come? Lex A Moodscope member. https://www.moodscope.com/blog/look-how-far
January 28, 2020 at the Boston Athenæum. Penelope Pelham Winslow was a member of the English gentry (her third great-grandmother was Anne Boleyn's sister Mary) who was married to Plymouth Colony Governor Josiah Winslow. Although she was one of the most powerful women in Plymouth's history, she, like most of her female contemporaries, has been largely forgotten. Penelope authored or is mentioned in just a few surviving documents; however, a wealth of physical evidence survives to tell her story, ranging from surviving homes and possessions to archaeological artifacts. These items also offer insight into the world of Plymouth Colony's women. In her new book, Penelope Winslow, Plymouth Colony First Lady: Re-Imagining a Life, Michelle Marchetti Coughlin discovers that blending historical records with material culture provides the keys to re-imagining Winslow's world in all its rich complexity.

This week Morgan Webster sits down with the fearless Charlie Morgan. Its a full career and life retrospective. Here we talk about her falling in love with Wrestling and her chance meeting with Southside Promoter Ben Auld led her to discover her first British Wrestling show. She chats about training with WAW under the name Lady Penelope and how she broke out very easily on the European scene but struggled to break out on the British Scene. Then we talk about her stepping away from wrestling for a year and how during this time she embraced her sexuality and found her voice within the LGBT community. Then to return to the ring as Charlie Morgan and rise through the ranks of Pro Wrestling Eve to become their first openly gay champion. This really is one of my favorite conversations to date.

This week, Sir Dudley Dashly swings from vine to vine across the jungle, colliding violently with Pitfall Harry and sending both of them to the hospital with concussions. If only! That's just my dream premise for Pitfall III. Instead, we're taking a look at the 1983 game from Atari, JUNGLE HUNT. Vicious vines. Cruel crocs. Belligerent boulders. Savage, uh, savages. Will Sir Dudley Dashly ever see Lady Penelope again? Well, we don't want to spoil anything, but we'd like to point out they never made Jungle Hunt II.
