This perspective shift opened doors to unprecedented opportunity, including award-winning podcasts and a YouTube channel that exploded from 38 subscribers to nearly 70,000 in less than a year. What makes Jen's approach so magnetic is her raw authenticity. From filming philosophical "Shower Thoughts" videos (fully clothed!) that went viral to interviewing judges and reformed convicts for her "Voices of Justice" series. "Trust your heart, because in addiction, we lose faith in our own judgement and what we see as right or wrong," says “Taylor”, the name he gave himself after he embraced sobriety After years of struggling to leave addiction behind, he works to help others find their way to a sober life. "Have faith in yourself,” he says. “Believe in yourself because that's the only way that you're going to get sober and stay sober." Born in Sedalia, Missouri in a segregated community, his early years were marked with the traumas inherent in racism. At 10 he witnessed an event that would change the trajectory of his life, casting him into an abyss so deep it would take years to dig himself out.But dig deep he did. Now, more than seven and a half years sober, he is grateful for the life he has and for the family, both biological and chosen, who have loved and supported him. Today he has built a life he is proud of, one in which service to others is central. As you listen to this episode, consider:We all have times of struggle, when we need someone to listen. Who do you depend on? Taylor speaks about the importance of having someone to listen. Learning to listen means meeting people where they are, without judgement or expectation. How can you be truly present for someone who is struggling?Life is filled with challenges. Focusing on what we are grateful for helps keep us steady and puts life into context. Practice finding one or more things to be grateful for each day. Consider keeping a gratitude journal. You can learn more about Taylor here.Do you know someone who has a story to tell? Dr. Christine B. Whelan is an author, professor, speaker, and thought leader guiding organizations like the DeBruce Foundation and AARP's Life Reimagined on self-improvement strategies. She is the best-selling author of the ten-lesson series Finding Your Purpose and five additional books, including The Big Picture and Generation WTF. As a Clinical Professor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison's School of Human Ecology, Dr. Whelan teaches classes on happiness, finance, and family and directs the MORE: Money, Relationships & Equality program. In this episode… We're often told that money can't buy happiness, yet companies market products to target our basic needs and desires. This consumption-driven economy teaches us that we can choose how to expend our resources to fulfill our innate purpose. How can business owners identify their purpose to allocate resources toward a meaningful outcome? When surveyed on happiness levels, Americans often rank themselves lower than people from other countries, holding themselves to an unrealistic standard of happiness based on the false perception of others. Human ecology researcher Dr. Christine B. Whelan maintains that your journey to happiness and fulfillment should depend solely on your personal and professional core values, which determine your ultimate purpose. To identify these values, you can engage in a purpose statement exercise that involves identifying your unique strengths and leveraging them to make a positive impact personally and professionally. Accordingly, each action and decision should align with your core values and propel you toward your ultimate goal. Tune in to this episode of the Up Arrow Podcast as William Harris chats with Dr. Christine B. Whelan about harnessing your purpose to achieve authentic happiness in a consumption-driven economy. Dr. Whelan talks about the etymology of thrifting, the benefits of purposeful living, and how to balance your personal and professional endeavors.

Missionaries sell everything they own, move to Cameroon, learn a new language, and eat odd foods. Alternatively, Missionaries root themselves in their hometowns, pray audaciously, build relationships with others in the routines of daily life, and regularly initiate gospel conversations with those who don't yet follow Jesus. Until God calls you to the former, only one good choice remains.

It's nearly 63 years since American novelist Ernest Hemingway died, yet his work - and his life - continue to fascinate. It's the subject of Dermot Ross's debut novel Hemingway's Goblet, - about a London-based lawyer called Nick Harrieson who discovers his grandfather had not only met the writer but may have inspired him. It comes as Nick's career as a law lecturer at a prestigious university hangs in the balance over his relationship with a student. The book explores relationships in the #MeToo era, with a look to Hemingway's reputation as a heavy drinker and womaniser. Dermot has worked as a corporate lawyer for 40 years, but had always wanted to write a novel. This one took him to the places Hemingway frequented in Spain.
In this episode, we speak with Barbara Bradley Hagerty about navigating the midlife crisis. Barbara is the author of multiple New York Times bestsellers, including Life Reimagined. An award-winning journalist, she spent nearly two decades as a correspondent for NPR and has contributed to publications such as The Atlantic, The Washington Post, the Los Angeles Times, and Vogue. Additionally, she has been honored with the Templeton-Cambridge Journalism Fellowship in Science and Religion, and a Knight Fellowship at Yale Law School. Midlife often brings a curious shift. Around the age of 40, our youthful idealism begins to fade, replaced by a heightened awareness of mortality and life's finite nature. This period can feel like a monotonous grind, characterized by the repetitive "Groundhog Day" effect, where days seem largely unchanged and dreams of what life could become start to dwindle. This is what many refer to as a midlife crisis—a time when, according to research, life satisfaction tends to reach its lowest point, around age 40 for women and 50 for men, before climbing again later in life. Barbara is an excellent guest for exploring this topic, offering insights that not only help us understand the midlife crisis but also inspire hope that things do improve. Personally experiencing a midlife reevaluation myself, I found this conversation incredibly uplifting and a rejuvenation of my optimism for what lies ahead. Several months ago, I challenged my team members, Erika Royal, Courtney Delgado, and Katie Pulsifer, to create the best Certification program we've ever had. And they've done it. This conversation is about the process they used to reimagine the program and how you can think about reimagining your own life. You'll hear what it means to constantly be improving, to never get comfortable, and to always be the best of the best in terms of over delivering. If you are interested in becoming a Certified Life Coach, now is the time to really explore and understand what we are offering. This is the last time Certification will be open in 2023.

Isn't interesting how many of us would be doing something different if we could. I mean different in our careers, in our relationship, in our lives. WE can! We really can! This podcast is all about reimagining and reinventing our lives. That means we are intentionally transitioning. We are intentionally veering off the path we're traveling and taking another one. Or, better still, paving the unique path that we imagine. That may sound like pie in the sky to some of you. You may be thinking about all of your responsibilities, commitments, and entanglements. But it really is possible!

Tonight we talk about (re)discovering and nurturing our life passion and how that simple, but overlooked step, can bring meaning to everything we do in life. Also, prayers and good thoughts to all who are affected by the Russian aggression in the Ukraine region.
Tonight we talk about living to our own goals instead of the false goals created by a “safe” society. We also follow up in Mexican Figure Skater Donnovan Carrillo's Olympic debut performance!
How much can daily meditation change your life within one short year? After many years of living within abusive relationships, Lisa Roppo finally faced with her shadow. Myriam Martinez has never been one to keep quiet, but she was born into a Peruvian immigrant family that valued “not rocking the boat”. When an uncle molested her when she was eleven, true to form, Myriam told…loudly. The molestation stopped, but the family encouraged her silence and still gathered for events with the perpetrator of her abuse. She became a depressed, self-destructive teen who attempted suicide. It was during hospitalization after her suicide attempt that Myriam discovered what it felt like to be cared about, heard, and to have her voice honored. She later set limits with her family, refusing to be at events with a molesting uncle.

The first time I spoke to Dani on this podcast (ep #66) she was in the midst of an awakening - for the first time in 3 years (when at times she'd been in a wheelchair to manage her back pain) she had been pain free for a number of weeks, and she was astounded. This did not happen by chance. Dani is a warrior for the work, and she didn't turn her back on the willingness to believe that this could work for her. Nine months later, Dani's whole life has transformed. Not only did she travel to India to receive her Yoga Teacher Training, but she utilized her graphic design skills and TMS knowledge to create a whole beautiful website dedicated to healing: www.mytmsjourney.com. On her site is a link to her new therapeutic yoga classes, which I hear are phenomenal (and will now be attending despite my panic that I can't do yoga because I'm not bendy!) Members of my community receive their first class completely free. Use code: JOURNALSPEAK. Enjoy Dani's story, insight, and energy. It's such a privilege to walk the path with all of you badass healers. XOOX n. MY NEXT VIRTUAL RETREAT IS LIVE AND ON SALE: FREEDOM FROM CHRONIC PAIN - A VIRTUAL RETREAT EXPERIENCE.
