Her resume is wildly impressive: best-selling author, award-winning screenwriter, successful entrepreneur, celebrated fitness trainer and health activist -- she even won Miss Congeniality at the Miss California USA pageant. But Kimberly Spencer's accomplishments hid her demons -- bulimia, trying to be who others wanted and expected her to be, a victim of emotional self-sabotage. When she realized she had the power to crown herself whole, she stopped breaking off pieces of her personal and professional selves to fit into others' boxes. That revelation has led to a career as an internationally acclaimed speaker and high-performance coach who helps audiences and clients reassemble the diamonds within and build lives of joy and significance.   For more information about Kimberly Spencer, visit www.crownyourself.com   To learn more about Crucible Leadership and to sign up to receive regular updates, visit www.CrucibleLeadership.com

THE QUEEN HAS ARRIVED!! I have "my" queen, MISS CALIFORNIA USA, on the podcast today + It's very special to me because I'm her runner-up! Allyshia + I competed in MISS CALIFORNIA USA 2020 Back in January together + it's been such a wild ride since. Now, she's currently in Memphis, Tennessee preparing to take the stage for MISS USA on Monday, November 9th. This is the FIRST (and very overdue) conversation we've shared since the competition + it's transparent as well as hilarious. In this episode, Allyshia + I take a walk down memory lane as we discuss some of favorite moments from competing in MISS CA USA this year, meeting each other, final moments before the announcement of the winner, + what it's been like for her through the pandemic. "Allyshia likes to say she’s a walking example of why you should never judge a book by its cover. Despite the blonde hair and blue eyes, Allyshia is half Indian and originally born in England," -- we get into exactly why she's more than a crown + what she's learn through this year of adversity while being a titleholder. Allyshia migrated to the United States with her single mother when she was only a few years old. She spent her childhood growing up on a rural farm in Florida where she developed a passion for equestrian sport. When she wasn’t on a horse, Allyshia was working at her family restaurant where she credits her strong work ethic, commitment to serve, and people skills too! At 15, Allyshia left home to attend a European boarding school where she obtained advanced level qualifications in business, psychology, and philosophy of religion and science. She then returned to the states and started her own business before matriculating at Auburn University where she graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in business administration and entrepreneurship. After university, Allyshia chased a career in media and landed her first job working for ABC network in Los Angeles, CA, where she currently resides with her English bulldog, Bentley. Allyshia is passionate about female empowerment- specifically in business and entrepreneurship and has her own non-profit organization, Care to Create, which supports this agenda as well as various other causes close to Allyshias heart. Before entering Miss California USA, Allyshia had waited 8 years to naturalize and become a US citizen, allowing her to be eligible for the competition. Allyshia hopes to inspire others to chase their dreams because she believes that everyone can achieve their fairytale ending if they work hard enough for it. Tune in to meet your MISS CA USA 2020 + cheer her on as she takes the MISS USA stage! At 15, Jane Olvera was told by her high school guidance counselor that her dream of owning her own business in 10 years "was not possible" because she was female, she was Latina, and she would need many more years to eventually have her own business. His biases and discouragement were exactly what it took to motivate her to not only reach that goal, but to now be a successful and award-winning business owner and leader. In 1993, she was crowned Miss California USA, and was driven by a tough Director who also played a key role in the inspiration Jane needed to succeed. "HOW DOES SHE DO IT?!" -- well, I'm telling-all. Balancing pageantry doesn't have to be stressful, like many other things, making time for something you love is completely possible as long as it's approached with motivation, effort, time-management, + support. As many of you already know, pageantry "fell into my lap" while serving active-duty in the Navy as an Officer, navigating a move to a new city, + runner a part-time photography business. I never planned on competing in pageants annually until 2016, when I competed in MISS OHIO USA for the very first time + it changed my life. Four 3 years + 4 competitions, I had to figure out how to navigate life in the Navy, family, a serious boyfriend, a business, recruiting, modeling, + working toward my dream of becoming MISS USA. Stressed yet? Yes, I get it! At one point I didn't know how I'd balance it all, until I realized all of my passions aligned + worked together to help me prepare for #MISS USA state competitions. By the time I prepared for my final competition, MISS CALIFORNIA USA in January 2020, I truly felt like I had nailed down exactly how to not only prepare, but win + represent, as MISS CALIFORNIA USA. Yes, I never won, but I did place first runner-up + still celebrate my ability to balance it all. In this episode, I'll walk you through how I learned to navigate pageantry with a full-time career + why you need to stop making excuses for NOT pursuing your passions even with your demanding life. We've all been through it: we fail, we cry, we figure out how to get back up again. It's tough, it sucks, we don't understand why it's a necessary part of our journey. Tough luck, it's 100% necessary to fail in order to grow. We don't HOPE to fail, but when we do we learn, -- so does that mean we ever really failed to begin with? In this episode I'm transparent, sassy, and emotional -- a winning combination-- but most of all, I want to ensure you walk away with reasons why you needed to go through the hard parts of life in order to grow. My personal experience in failure ranges from falling at a state track competition, to bombing college exams, to changing my career in the Navy, and finishing runner-up at MISS CALIFORNIA USA. I'll walk you through four reasons why failure is the best thing that's happened to you, because I've been through it too, and how to redefine what it means to "fail." Strap in, it's an emotional one. You'll walk away with not only a better understanding of my personal journey, but your own, and why you never really failed to begin with.  Like this episode? Are you competing annually and never winning? Are you starting to plateau in all areas: personally and physically?  Let's talk strategy.  DIY methods are a thing of the past- if you're preparing for ANY kind of competition whether it's pageants, fitness, or sports you need to have professionals to mentor and coach you to reach your five-star best. Once upon a time I didn't believe in hiring help either, I thought I was disciplined enough and could do research on my own. But here's the thing: you're never going to get BETTER if you aren't doing anything DIFFERENT.  In this episode, I interview Pageant Planet's #1 trainer of the year, Craig Hughes, and my personal coach for Miss California USA. Craig Hughes founded Body by Craig in April 2013 to provide top pageant competitors with the same individualized one-on-one training that elite athletes get with the goal of maximizing each pageant client’s fullest potential and competition results. Kellie Hall: The Power Within In Episode #68, I sit down with Lieutenant Kellie Hall as we discuss what makes us powerful as women. Kellie is serving active duty and is a top recruiter in the US Navy. She is not only a woman serving a male dominated leadership role, but she is also a model, entrepreneur, motivational speaker, and is competing in the Miss California competition at the end of this month. The roles that Kellie has found herself in place her in the juxtaposition of femininity and leadership and have helped her create the platform that drives her two part mission in life: 1. Empowering and helping women find their power2. Shattering the sterotype of people's expectations. Growing up, Kellie was a cheerleader, dancer, did track and field and never saw herself in the navy but did dream of being in the senate. Inevitably, she chose the navy because of the personal challenge it presented to her. “If something is scary, I go for it because that allows the most growth.” Kellie shares how in the beginning of her naval career, people wanted to put her in a box telling her not to wear make up because she wouldn't be taken seriously in her career. She faced the same push back when she decided on a whim to try out for the Miss Ohio America Competition. Once again, she saw this as a challenge, but also as a way to connect with likeminded women. She tells us how she had fallen into these positions along her journey but knew that God had pushed her to take action along the path. “I did not recognize that I was powerful or how to use that power. I kept falling into these areas, and when people told me not to do it, I just said Why Not?..” She suddenly realized that power is not determined by your stature but in the delivery of your message. Kellie says that people can't be empowered until they know what makes them powerful which is exactly why she has created a three step process for unlocking the power within: Three Steps to Unlocking the Power Within: 1. Find the Passion 2. Protect the Power 3. Find a Mentor Kellie leaves us with her definition of POWER: Utilizing skills and gifts that are given to you by God.
