Welcome to MattPAC*, a new Accelerators pilot concept!Radiation Oncologist Dr. Matt Spraker aims to introduce important healthcare policy concepts rooted in current events. Each show is designed to be efficient with your time and inspire you to get engaged with advocacy in around 30 minutes. In MattPAC #1, Matt covers quality payment programs (QPP). QPPs aim to incentivize "High Quality Care" by adjusting a portion of physician's pay according to performance on quality indicators, measures of healthcare quality. We'll discuss the rich history of care quality improvement in radiation medicine and examine how Medicare has approached the QPP with Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS). We're told in the USA that we're so divided... yet if you go to any sort of normal event in the country, everyone's not really having a problem at all with each other. This work has taken me to a lot of different places including inner-city America and that has been different. I never would have done that otherwise and it has been a big eye-opener. It has really helped me to understand those environments and where people are coming from a lot better. - Peter Santenello Are You Stressed Out Lately? Is the grass really greener on the other side? True, authentic journalism - is it dead? These are just some of the many questions Peter helps us answer on this week's Wellness + Wisdom Podcast episode. By the end of this episode, you will have a clear understanding of what and why major news networks aren't sharing, why seeing both sides of a current event is so important, and how to live life by the middle way. Shop the BEST Organic Snacks at PaleoValley Save 15% with the code 'JOSH' PaleoValley's 100% Grass-Fed Beef Sticks Paleovalley 100% Grass Fed Beef Sticks are the only beef sticks in the USA made from 100% grass fed/grass finished beef and organic spices that are naturally fermented. Their 100% Grass Fed Beef Sticks are unlike anything else on the market. In fact, they were recently voted in Paleo Magazine as one of the top snacks of the year. The reason is that they are committed to making the highest quality, clean products that are free from problematic ingredients. Their beef comes from 100% grass fed cows raised entirely on natural grass pastures by family farmers right here in the USA. As a result they are healthy and happy. PaleoValley's Pasture-Raised Turkey Sticks Paleovalley Pasture-Raised Turkey Sticks were created to make healthy snacking easier. Their turkey sticks are made from turkeys who are allowed to live as nature intended... on organic grass pastures with plenty of sunshine, fresh air and room to exercise. The result of raising turkeys in such a natural way is a much healthier, clean protein with higher levels of vitamins, minerals, and omega-3s. Unfortunately, virtually all turkey in the USA is conventionally raised with a small portion being "free range" – a virtually meaningless term that simply means the turkeys were allowed access to the outdoors. However, most "free range" turkeys only have access to an outdoor dirt field with no pasture in sight. Their truly pasture-raised turkeys are given full access to outdoor, pesticide-free pasture with plenty of grass and insects for them to nibble on. Why his YouTube channel isn't a political one but one that looks closer at human condition issues. Sam Harris The fact that 90% of truth is actually subjective. Scientists shed light on ‘seeing' through others' eyes How Peter would define a life well lived. The importance of staying with your 'rascality' as Alan Watts would say but within a healthy balance to help you stay in the middle way. Power Quotes From The Show What Story Are You Being Fed? "There are some great journalists out there but as far as mainstream media, you know exactly what you're going to get in any topic. If it's the border, if you watch FOX or CNN, you know the story they're going to tell you with either one. With any current issue, you know exactly what's going to be delivered." - Peter Santenello On a Mission for Truth "Right now with the space that we're in with politics with our two parties, Republican and Democrat, there are usually about five main issues and if you fall out of line with one them, you're going to get ostracized quickly. If I go film at the Mexican border right now, I'll be called a Trumper -people will say, 'Oh! You're going to the border, you must be a Trump supporter.' But then if I go do a docu-series about Muslims in America, all of a sudden I'm like a 'woke' guy. I'm just interested in the story and the truth; I don't really fit into either of the categories." - Peter Santenello How to Make a Difference in the World "I think putting forth your best effort and, personally for me, exploring the human condition as much as I can and adding to the world in a positive way is the way to live life. My mission is to put out content that after watching it makes a person go, 'Oh cool, I see this issue a different way now,' or 'This has left me in a better mood.' We're all gravitated toward certain news clips we come across on YouTube or social media and we want to watch them but afterward, they leave us off in a worse place energetically than before watching them. My goal is to be the opposite of that for people." - Peter Santenello Links From Today's Show Peter Santenello on YouTube Official Website of Peter Santenello The Map of Consciousness Explained: A Proven Energy Scale to Actualize Your Ultimate Potential by David R. Bud Geissler is the Vice President of Business Development and Sales at Group Collect. As a brand ambassador for student travel and Travel Insurance, he recently celebrated 25 years in the group travel industry. Bud served as President of the Student Youth Travel Association from 2011-2012 and was the Chair of the SYTA Youth Foundation's Board of Trustees. Bud was also the National Account Manager at Travel Insured International before moving to Group Collect. On this episode of Destination on the Left, I talk with Bud Geissler about his experience in student and youth group travel, and I was moved by his insights into the importance of the travel experience for young people. We also dive into how technology is making the tourist business not only more streamlined and efficient but overall more pleasant and enjoyable for everyone involved. What You Will Learn in this Episode: Bud's experience as a student tour operator looking after groups traveling all over the USA How the use of technology in the tour and travel market has evolved over the past two years What technology can do to improve people's experience of a destination The app that Bud is currently working on to enhance the on-the-ground group travel experience by giving them space to create the memories and to enjoy what's around them without worrying about the logistics of their trip How having the mobile ability to access travel documents will streamline processes How technology can facilitate a direct connection between the consumer and the group travel agent How technology can provide a direct channel for future marketing and trip feedback Why using a dedicated app can help by ensuring you have a consistent brand leaving your organization Why the group travel segment buying cycle is so different than the retail buying experience Challenges that Bud is seeing bubbling up right now in the group travel industry How Technology Improves the Group Travel Experience Technology — half the time, it frustrates the heck out of us, and half the time, it simplifies our lives. But the last two years have demonstrated just how significant a role technology can play in the planning and implementing of an excellent travel experience. Leveraging technology for group travel may not seem intuitive at first, but as this week's guest Bud Geissler explains, once you jump on board, you'll realize how valuable and user-friendly up-to-date technology can be in streamlining the travel experience. Bud describes where he sees the future for making connections in the group travel industry that provide travelers with an enhanced experience and travel marketers with an opportunity for direct marketing. Streamlining Processes Bud describes how when pandemic restrictions lifted, tour operators went from zero sales to 100% sales in a three-month period and how his company was able to support tour operators to launch their products and access operations systems support from a technology standpoint. Nicole and Bud discuss how the software being built by Group Collect not only gives access to a landing page for registration, but it also allows the traveler to register to sign documents, ask questions, and get important information such as where the local hospital is or how to get medication while they're on the road. There is no longer a gatekeeper in charge of ensuring that the travel insurance products or information gets down downstream to every traveler in the group because the whole process is automated. The Importance of Travel to Young People Bud also shares his thoughts on why student travel is a way to change a young person's life. He explains his philosophy that student travel connects curriculum to reality, practice to performance, and classrooms to careers. So when any young person has the opportunity to travel, they are gaining life-changing opportunities at a time when there's so much struggle and challenge in our society it's a gift. On the show today, I have Nate Turner, the executive chef and owner of Your Custom Catering. He has been named one of “Charlotte's Best Caterers” for two years consecutively. He is also an incredible human being who has dedicated a tremendous amount of time, energy, and money toward feeding the homeless community in Charlotte building up an amazing Food Pantry. His kindness and heart is what makes him so loved by the people close to him and as a successful entrepreneur and amazing chef, he is what we would call in baseball a 5 tool player. In this episode, we talk about: What it is like growing up as a black man in the USA How he developed such a high level of self-esteem and confidence How pervasive racism is in the US today and what we can do to make a difference His passion for taking care of the underserved in our community How old he was when he realized he was gay And much much more. He is a native of Maryland, but moved to Charlotte three days after his high school graduation to pursue his degree in culinary arts at Johnson & Wales University. Upon graduation, he continued to manage restaurants and hospitality along with offering private chef services in the Charlotte metro area. In 2012, he opened Your Custom Catering & Events, a full-service catering and events firm. His idea was to offer catering and event management to those who were priced out of the big-name competitors within the industry. Following his first open tasting, which was attended by more than three hundred potential clients, his calendar quickly filled. Five years later, with more than twenty employees and the ability to cater events for 500+ guests, he is considered one of the best in Charlotte. Some people say no pain no gain but is that true for severe physical pain? Why be in horrific physical pain if healthy natural answers exist to set you free? Surgery options? Many fusions cause downstream pain and dysfunction issues. The fused area looses motion, which, within months or years after surgery, puts increased movement demands on the joints areas above and below to pick up some of the motion slack. Pain? If you develop severe back or leg pain after a back surgery, this often signals a serious long-term hard-to-treat scenario. Thus, faster, safer and easier methods to deal with disc surgery, are needed. In this show you will learn what they are. Dr. Bleiweiss is one of two medical surgeons in the U.S. that performs Oxygen Ozone Disc Injection Therapy. You’ll learn the multiple benefits of ozone disc therapy, how it compares to conventional treatments, and who is and is not a candidate for this intervention. I asked Dr. Bleiweiss why are there only two physicians in the U.S. doing this procedure if it is so beneficial and safe. Listen to this show to find out the answer. Who is this doc? Dr. Bleiweiss, M.D. is a diplomat of the American Board of Anesthesiology, a diplomat of the American Board of Pain Medicine, and a diplomat of the National Board of Medical Examiners. He is board certified in New York, has been in practice for over 30 years and has been doing this unique ozone/disc therapy for 8 years. Dr. Bleiweiss specializes in minimally invasive alternative treatments that heal patients without surgery or potentially harmful medications. His treatment are specifically designed to activate the body’s innate ability to recover and regenerate. If you have suffered with severe back pain, or had dear friends or family members affected you will want to learn: What is the safest way to severe herniated disc syndrome with on-going pain? How does this compare to conventional treatments? Who is and who is not a candidate? Why aren’t many surgeons doing these techniques in the good ole USA? How quickly does a patient get pain free? What other pain conditions and injuries can oxygen ozone injection therapy treat successfully? What are the main reasons people should try this therapy instead of opting for surgery? Real patient examples. Dr. Bleiwess Links: www. spineandjointtreatment.com www.alternativedisctherapy.com
Aired Tuesday, 10 April 2018, 5:00 PM ESTGuns and the Right to Bear Arms – Beyond Victims and VillainsA Conversation with Progressive Gun-Owner Veronica Monet“Every child should learn the appropriate use of arms — for hugging.” — Swami BeyondanandaThe problem with “hot button” issues like gun control / 2nd Amendment rights is that they are “hot” — lots of heat, not nearly enough light. From the meta-view, they keep the culture wars alive, and this war prevents “we the people” from uniting around the larger issues of governance, what my friend and associate Joseph McCormick calls “who’s in charge of who’s in charge”.So it may be that the Parkland students’ movement, while seeking to address the problem at a higher level, could easily be diverted into positionality that avoids the real problem. This week’s guest, self-described progressive and gun-owner Veronica Monet takes us deeper into the conversation: Why IS the school-shooting problem so indigenous to the USA? How do we protect the rights of individual citizens, and minimize harm to everyone else? Which weapons should be legal and which should not? How do we prevent these tragedies, and how much of that has to do with gun control legislation? You may remember Veronica from our previous interview a few months ago on the #METOO movement, citing her own experience as a rape survivor, sex therapist and counselor. In this interview, she contrasts her revulsion at her father’s obsession with guns with her own experience — having them as handy protectors as she lived in the woods alone for eight years. If you’re ready for common sense and uncommon wisdom on a complex and divisive issue, tune in this Tuesday, April 10th at 2 PM PT / 5 PM ET.How you can support Wiki PolitikiJoin the “upwising” — join the conversation, and become a Wiki Politiki supporter: http://wikipolitiki.com/join-the-upwising/ Go ahead, PATRONIZE me! In this episode, we discuss: Jim’s experiences growing up in Alaska How Jim became involved with the psychiatric system That Jim was told he was mentally ill and he needed drugs for the rest of his life and would never be able to practice law again How found a Psychiatrist who told him that anyone who doesn’t sleep could become psychotic and that he could manage the problem How his experience with the psychiatric system changed the focus of his life About his involvement in a case involving the State of Alaska stealing a million acre land trust for the “mentally ill” That the book ‘Mad in America‘ by Robert Whitaker provided a litigation roadmap for challenging forced psychiatric drugging How Jim formed the organisation Law Project for Psychiatric Rights (PsychRights) to mount a strategic legal campaign against forced drugging and Electroshock in the USA How the number of people detained or forcibly treated in the mental health system is dramatically out of step with the reality demonstrated by Open Dialog and Soteria type approaches That changing public attitudes to the hidden parts of the mental healthcare system is very important How cases can arise very rapidly, requiring almost immediate response which is sometimes difficult That the deck is really stacked against the patient because they are having to defend themselves against medical professionals and their lawyers while they have no credibility because they are charged with being mentally ill The events in the trial between the widow of Stuart Dolin and the UK Pharmaceutical manufacturer GlaxoSmithKline That it was a legal first because Wendy Dolin sued the manufacturer of the brand name drug, Paxil, even though Stuart Dolin was taking the generic version of the drug manufactured by Mylan How Wendy Dolin’s lawyers came up with a common law negligence claim against GSK that GSK had a duty to provide accurate information about the drug How GSK manipulated the science of the clinical trials to downplay the suicide risk That Dr. Joseph Glenmullen and Dr. David Healy were key expert witnesses That the jury unanimously found GSK guilty of withholding information That GSK have stated their intention to appeal the verdict How the appeal process will work Why we shouldn’t trust what Pharmaceutical manufacturers tell us about clinical trials The lack of informed consent where the prescribing of psychiatric drugs is concerned That outcomes for patients who have either not taken, or withdrawn from, antipsychotic drugs are much better than for those who continue with the drugs To listen on Mad in America: https://goo.gl/tyyLmt Podcast show notes: https://goo.gl/QpjVsA To get in touch with us email: podcasts@madinamerica.com © Mad in America 2017

Athlete Case Study : Volleyball Ep13 The Only Way To Make Yourself Happy with Ning "Nikki" Zhao Ning Zhao doesn't mess around when it comes to strangers approaching her online but after a thorough background check on who I am (Ryan Jay Owens) with her former NCAA D1 coach, Chris POOLE, and a big thumbs up that I was not some crazy person she agreed to this interview with a lot of excitement! She's been waiting a long time to tell someone her story to hopefully inspire other athletes to be goal oriented and not just think sports can offer them everything. Sometimes you must also drastically change your surroundings, like she did moving from China as an 18 year old to the USA, to play at a strong school so her education would be strong as well as volleyball. BIO Ning Zhao or "NIkki" as many refer to her was born Aug 20, 1976 in Beijing, China. She started to play volleyball as a nine (9) year old (!!!!)... She made the Chinese junior national team which was only 12 of the best young players in China (## Billion people Populate China!) before quickly deciding at 18 years old to not pursue the Olympics... She decided to pursue making sure her future after volleyball would be happy, healthy and full of opportunity and accepted a full scholarship to study & play in the USA. She started at Central Connecticut State university but quickly changed to Barton Community College for 2 years where she was a 2x All American. In her final 2 years of school at U of Arkansas -Fayetteville they were ranked 15th & 8th in the nation as a team.. making the Sweet 16 the 2nd Round of the NCAA tournament. She was ranked the 9th best setter in NCAA D1 volleyball her senior year & is one of only 3 players to hold the record of 3000 assists. She was honored with SEC 1st Team & AVCA All American, Now she's "a full time mommy" of a 9yr old boy and 2year old daughter after benign off and on assistant coach for a few years after her collegiate volleyball career. She plans on possibly coaching in the future and/or assisting young Chinese players to get to USA schools to play sports.
