She was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes more than thirty years ago, and she offers herself as living proof that you can cook, eat, sleep and walk your way out of type 2 diabetes, or at least the ill effects of it. That's what she wants for you, and the people who love you, and “Brownies for Breakfast,” tells you exactly how you can do it. https://lynnebowman.com/ https://www.amazon.com/dp/B094GPM3Z3

But this doesn't mean you are destined for an unfulfilled life! Learning how to manage your diabetes is possible, other than medicine, between what you put into your body, how often you exercise and how you manage your mental health there are so many things you can do. How to Manage Daily Life When it comes to day to day life, nourishing your body with lots of plants, whole foods and getting in movement along with any medicine you need, should be part of your routine. A whole food plant-based diet is so beneficial for chronic disease. Plants give us nourishment we need and help us avoid the saturated fat that animal products contain. While adding some animal products from time to time is still okay when you want to maintain some balance, making sure they are high quality is important. It's also important to take care of your mental health. Yoga, meditation and mindfulness can all help control stress. As can doing things like family dinners, movie nights and other ways to connect with those you love. When we keep ourselves in a mostly stress free state this helps our health overall. The mind and body are very connected! Sleep is another thing our body needs in order to stay at optimum health. Our diets, exercise and mental well being can be so influenced by how rested we are! It's also very important to check in regularly with your doctor and see your doctor should you feel something is wrong. "HOW DOES SHE DO IT?!" -- well, I'm telling-all. Balancing pageantry doesn't have to be stressful, like many other things, making time for something you love is completely possible as long as it's approached with motivation, effort, time-management, + support. As many of you already know, pageantry "fell into my lap" while serving active-duty in the Navy as an Officer, navigating a move to a new city, + runner a part-time photography business. I never planned on competing in pageants annually until 2016, when I competed in MISS OHIO USA for the very first time + it changed my life. Four 3 years + 4 competitions, I had to figure out how to navigate life in the Navy, family, a serious boyfriend, a business, recruiting, modeling, + working toward my dream of becoming MISS USA. Stressed yet? Yes, I get it! At one point I didn't know how I'd balance it all, until I realized all of my passions aligned + worked together to help me prepare for #MISS USA state competitions. By the time I prepared for my final competition, MISS CALIFORNIA USA in January 2020, I truly felt like I had nailed down exactly how to not only prepare, but win + represent, as MISS CALIFORNIA USA. Yes, I never won, but I did place first runner-up + still celebrate my ability to balance it all. In this episode, I'll walk you through how I learned to navigate pageantry with a full-time career + why you need to stop making excuses for NOT pursuing your passions even with your demanding life. One of the key components in chasing your dream is not to let yourself get distracted by the long-term vision or the successes that others may enjoy. Chasing YOUR dream means owning YOUR journey--however long that may be.  Tiffany Southerland is a lawyer by training and a change agent at heart. As a career confidence coach and facilitator, she helps students and professionals leverage their stories and strengths so they can maximize their career success. Tiffany also hosts “How Does She Do It?” which is a podcast dedicated to sharing practical advice on the intersection of faith, personal growth, and professional development. Tiffany has been a featured TEDx speaker and has served as a panelist, moderator, speaker, and facilitator on topics including professional development, diversity and inclusion, career transitions, overcoming trauma, and balancing personal values and career goals. Feeling the frustration What drives your dream chase? Tiffany thinks back to a time when she was frustrated with her podcast back in March 2018. She wasn’t receiving any feedback and honestly didn’t think anyone was even listening. She questioned why she was even putting forth the effort, but then she realized she needed to shift her mindset. Her long-term vision stayed the same, but she had to change the way she viewed her target and the way she measured her success. Her advice is to adjust your lens, which can shift your perspective. Your vision is what keeps driving you. TWEET: Your imperfections do not detract from your message the way it does inside your head. @tiffsouth #chasingdreams Take the risk Are you a risk taker? Tiffany explains that progress requires a certain amount of risk, which is something she learned from a mentor. To grow, we have to risk failure---and those are the moments in which we learn. We have to take chances. Not taking risks is a way of hiding yourself from what might happen on the other side of the risk. Fear hardly ever materializes the way we build it up in our minds. Tiffany says that the reward will outweigh the risk. TWEET: There are people NOT doing what you are doing, which means you are already brave. @tiffsouth #chasingdreams Your vision requires a choice Are you ready to choose between your opportunities? Tiffany explains that a talented person will always have interesting opportunities, but at some point, a choice will have to be made. One thing or the other will begin to suffer. Tiffany recognizes that a decision will have to be made at some time in her future about which path she will follow, but one thing to guard against is comparing your path to someone else’s. Others may have success that we see, but we don’t see all the struggles and obstacles they have endured. She says, “We have to be mindful of creating our blueprint based on someone else’s building.” TWEET: You have to run YOUR own race. @tiffsouth #chasingdreams Guest Recommendation: ONE action for a dream chaser to take: “Take one step every single day and don’t let the brightness of your vision distract you.” OUTLINE OF THIS EPISODE: [1:09] Catching up with Tiffany [3:28] When you feel like detouring from your dream [5:55] Maintaining your fire [9:22] How to receive a compliment [12:01] Stepping outside your comfort zone [15:45] The fear of low results [19:52] The impact of your authenticity [21:41] Someone who has inspired Tiffany [23:43] A mentor’s advice [27:20] Don’t measure yourself by someone else [31:19] You don’t see everything [34:35] What’s next for Tiffany [36:10] ONE action for a dream chaser RESOURCES MENTIONED: Find Tiffany on social media: https://twitter.com/tiffsouth https://www.instagram.com/tiffsouth/ https://www.linkedin.com/in/tiffsouth/ Find the Behind-the-Scenes interview with Tiffany:  https://youtu.be/qWE3c215-Uw Find our Fundathon Donation Page:  http://aimeej21.com/donate[ TWEETS YOU CAN USE: TWEET: You can’t make progress without risking something. @tiffsouth #chasingdreams TWEET: I’m grateful and humbled to be able to chase my dream while balancing my career. @tiffsouth #chasingdreams TWEET: You need to be thankful and receive the compliments that come your way. @tiffsouth #chasingdreams

TWEET: Ep. 71: @tiffsouth - Channeling her #Talent as a #ChangeAgent for Others to #Embrace Their #Potential Change Agent at Heart Have you ever met someone remarkably confident in who they are? Aimee met someone that fits that bill. Her guest on this episode is Tiffany F. Southerland and she describes herself as a “Change agent at heart.” At the center of Tiffany’s personal narrative is a love for serving others and helping them discover personal transformation. Tiffany started her professional career in law. Then, after embarking on her own journey of personal discovery and transformation, she changed careers. Tiffany currently works as a career coach, chasing her passion to help others. Don’t miss this inspiring episode of Chasing Dreams to hear more of Tiffany’s story! Owning Your Story Do you ever feel like you are living in two different worlds? Work life and home life? Tiffany F. Southerland felt the divide between these two worlds for a long time. She discovered the first step towards living an integrated life is owning your story. She encourages the people she coaches to get rid of the “Compartmentalized life” mindset. Sometimes making this transition to an integrated life is messy and scary. After having embarked on her own journey, Tiffany is uniquely positioned to help others. Listen to Tiffany’s helpful insight on this episode of Chasing Dreams! TWEET: Owning Your #Story @tiffsouth Where is your identity? When you meet someone new, what is one of the first questions you ask them? Usually, it's “What do you do?” This is your way of sizing someone up, categorizing them, defining them. If you are honest with yourself, you label the person in the mirror too. Tiffany F. Southerland realized that this method of labeling isn’t helpful. If your identity rests in what you do or where you work, what happens if that ends? Tiffany encourages people she coaches to find other means of personal identity. To hear how you can start that journey, make sure to catch this episode of Chasing Dreams! Four Corners Coaching What does a well rounded life look like? After years through law school and an early career as an attorney, Tiffany F. Southerland started to chase a dream. After developing the skills she needed on her own journey, Tiffany identified these four areas of focus. Personal Development Professional Development Health and Wellness Relationships Tiffany teaches the necessity of tending to all four areas with focus and intentionality. When one area is “off” or unattended, it can have ripple effects into the other three areas. Tiffany is passionate about helping others discover the harmony she has learned through careful self examination.
