Ep #304 - A Story of Hope for This Holiday Season - featuring an interview with veteran and inspirational speaker, Jason Morgan As I close out 2024 my team and I have been talking about our theme for 2025. And we have landed on Soul Growth as our overarching message for this upcoming year. I am bringing this up now because my team and I decided to replay a show I recorded in 2021 with veteran, inspirational speaker and author Jason Morgan. His story is all about soul growth and facing life challenges with a "can do" attitude. Jason was injured in the line of duty and came home a paraplegic. During his recovery, Jason was introduced to the non-profit organization Canine Companions for Independence (CCI) and it became a life-saver for him. With their help he was paired with a service dog to assist him in living an independent life. His first canine companion service dog, Napal, is the one featured in his book, A Dog Called Hope. I strongly encourage you to listen to the words of this very special man and his story or courage, hope and inspiration. In June of 1999, Jason Morgan was deployed to South America on a counter narcotics mission. His life was changed forever in the remote area of Ecuador when during an altercation with drug traffickers, his driver lost control of their SUV causing it to launch off the road into a steep ravine. Jason was ejected from the car and suffered a crushed spine. He was left for dead, drowning with his face submerged in swampy water, but then a miracle occurred. An American missionary working on radio towers in the area came upon the scene and saved Jason's life. Two months later Jason awoke from a coma with no immediate recollection of what had happened. He was told by doctors it was a miracle he had survived. However, as a result of his extensive injuries he was also told he would never walk again. Jason has since developed a special creed to offer hope to others who have been tragically injured: “I've tried to live my life by offering hope and renewed strength to those who have suffered a tragic injury or disability. Life may not be better or worse, but it will be different and I want to show them by example that you can live a productive life. And a life of purpose no matter what condition you're in. You need to focus on your ability, not your disability.” Today, Jason Morgan continues to use his story to motivate groups and individuals. Discussions are now underway for the book to become a major motion picture. Jason remarried on April 24, 2021 and has five boys. Jason, Kim and his dog, Yago now reside in Nevada, Texas. Our destination is the Middle Fork of the Salmon River with veteran fly fishing and adventure guide Guy Robins, Silver Creek Outfitters, Ketchum, Idaho. Considered one of the most rugged and isolated adventure trips in the lower 48, the Middle Fork is famous for a 6-day, 100-mile float through the massive Frank Church Wilderness area. Here you will find some of the most stunning scenery in the West; beautiful canyons, emerald-green pools, great whitewater, and hungry native Westslope Cutthroat trout that love to look up. Guy has been floating the Middle Fork for 30 years and leading adventure trips for 40. Today, he breaks down the Middle Fork for the fly angler and shares great stories of rafting in the Himalayas, scary moments on El Capitan, thoughts on free climbers and famous recluses, dynamite and log jams. Stick around to the end for a great story from Napal that will warm your heart. Bonus, tips on remote tributaries you can fish. With host, Steve Haigh Be the first to know about new episodes. This week in the studio a man who started his career in the US Air Force and was quickly selected for special training as a Combat Weatherman and earning a position with the Combat Weather Team, which provides meteorological and oceanographic intelligence information in and for the Army's Special Operations. In 1999 this guest was working counter drug operations in South America where he suffered a catastrophic vehicle accident which left him paralyzed from the waist down. After 2 months in a coma and not sure what had happened this guest was forced to start an all new life of trials and pushing himself further than he thought possible. Multiple surgeries, divorce, isolation, physical and mental pain led this guest to CCI, an organization that is determined to change the lives off all their clients through the use of service dogs. This week we hear the story of Napal, a service dog that brought more than hope, he brought a life of fulfillment and dreams that seemed so far away to my guest. Please welcome to the studio Jason Morgan…

Jacquelin Napal is an established entrepreneur in the Contemporary Art Industry. Jacquelin managed her first gallery at the mere age of 24! While in this role, Jacquelin quickly noticed a gap in the art industry for female entrepreneurship. By the age of 30, Jacquelin and her close friend and business partner Kat Emery opened the gallery Art Angels in Los Angeles. Art Angels Gallery is a vibrant and welcoming space for artists, collectors, and admirers of art. Art Angels currently represents over 50 artists. Jacquelin's focus is on managing the creative aspects of the gallery which includes art curation for real estate developers looking to elevate their spec properties, interior designers, celebrities and every-day lovers of art. Jacquelin continues to enjoy working with artists to encourage their talents, creative journeys and personal stories so that they can continue to connect better with their audiences. Jacquelin is a proud mother, female business founder, and a creative powerhouse. As a female founder in a male dominated industry, Jacquelin recognizes the importance of showing duality between strength and grace. When she is not in her gallery space, Jacquelin is passionate about all forms of wellness ranging from the physical to the spiritual and emotional. In this fun episode of The Know with Nikki Spo, Nikki and Jacquelin discuss the art world, being a female leader, taking chances and so much more. As Jacquelin was Nikki's first professional mentor, this episode is largely focused on females in business and in particular, the art industry, as well as the importance of women supporting and uplifting other women. They discuss pivoting from a difficult work environment and how working within your passion can create real daily joy. Nikki and Jacquelin also speak about their experiences being married to powerful husbands and how they have both paved their own identities and careers. Jacquelin discusses how her journey to owning a successful gallery began, how important partnerships in business can be, how she balances motherhood and work-life and so much more. People who stay in one place (and don't travel) find it harder to absorb the signs of God in this world. That makes it harder to find what you're yearning for. Sheikha Maryam Kabeer Faye is a traveler, seeking the One, seeking the Truth. She'll never stop traveling. We consider Maryam the mother of the converts on this podcast. She converted 45 years ago in 1975. Join Maryam as she explains her journey through 10,000 veils and her journey to Islam. She talks about her travels to places like Napal, India, Afganistan, Palistine, Africa, Sri Lanka, Iran and the USA and about the people she met and how they influenced her. Maryam grew up in a liberal Jewish family in Hollywood, USA. She was an actress at the age of five. When acting in a theatre company at the age of twelve she was given a painted scroll of an ancient wanderer. On the scroll were the words: 'Seek and The Truth Shall Make You Free.' So this is what she did. Maryam documented her travels into a book. The book is called 'Journey Through Ten Thousand Veils, the Alchemy of Transformation on the Sufi Path.' Sit back, relax and enjoy. This is an interesting journey. It should inspire you to start yours too and to 'let go of your existence'. Later I've got Dr. Jake Felice back to talk about Covid19, cannabis and pregnancy and we'll revisit CHS. So much going on right now, it's been a crazy week out there, Covid19 has shut it down. I think this is going to change the way we do a lot of things (education & entertainment). That's a good and a bad thing. The cool thing about most things being shut down is seeing so many families hanging out together. Call your local dispensary for their operating hours. I'm glad I know how to grow and garden and that I know other growers and gardeners. Aside from growing some of what we need, it's also really calming putting my hands in the soil. I say this because some of us are really stressed out right now. My suggestion is to start a garden,it doesn't have to be big. Speaking of which we almost forgot that it's finally spring. I'm cracking some seeds from @lorax315 (Afghan x Durban, Great rift valley and Nepal X Diesel). Lorax said the GRV loves mag, and the Napal loves the phosphorous. Go find him on IG and take a look at what he's doing. Strain of the Week: Diesel Cake: Sour Diesel and Wedding Cake (birthday cake, pink cookies). This was the pre-roll from Autumn Brands that I smoked with Rodney last week. This sativa dominant was a 20% THC with a strong gassy smell and taste backed up with a slight sugary flavor at the end from the Cake. It was a nice fun high, great for hanging out with friends. This was the pre-roll from Autumn Brands I smoked with Rodney after last week's show. We tried to do some research with getting high and seeing if a CBD joint would bring down the high. Problem was 1 joint for 2 potheads wasn't going to be enough to feel really high. I did feel it but I wasn't super high at the end of it as I was hoping. Then we plugged in some of his new podcast equipment and totally forgot about the CBD joints. I have received a lot of feedback asking how the technical issues with the podcast are coming along. So, in this podcast, I will touch on the challenges and hurdles of this week’s interview. The reason for this is to give you a “behind the scenes” into my journey – and to demonstrate… it’s the journey that makes us better. The only way to get where you want to go, requires starting. A journey of 1,000 miles, starts with one step (sometimes that’s also a few trips and stumbles)…all of which make us better, wiser and stronger. The other common question is regarding my thoughts on this week’s interview. I will share my thoughts as well as looking forward to yours, so that I can include them in the take-aways, lessons learned, and inspiration of the week. It is my hope that you find this mid-week podcast – even more inspiration to make your dream a reality, and to be inspired to make a difference. As I have said many times, there are a lot of people who count on it! This week’s episode was my take on goal setting. From a coaching perspective… what works and what doesn’t, as well as some things to consider that you may not have. Please go to http://www.innernorthstar.com (www.innernorthstar.com) for more on my blog about what I consider the foundation of what it takes to start 2016 off righthttp://www.innernorthstar.com (.) This episode covers honesty with yourself, being present, eliminating the spirit limiting emotion of worry, the value of challenges, and the power of gratitude. Also as I mention in this podcast, I tried very hard to connect with Sylivia Vasquez-Lavado who is the founder of http://www.courageousgirls.org (Courageous Girls.org)http://http://courageousgirls.org/ (.) (Please check out the amazing work she is doing!) She works with girls once they have been rescued or escaped after being sold into human trafficking. We tried connecting while she was in Miami, Napal, and finally talked while she was at the airport in Chile. The sound quality was not what I wanted, as the topic of human trafficking is very important and I didn’t want to miss any of it due to a poor internet connection. As this title says, everything happens for a reason and I am going to devote weeks to this topic from many different aspects. So, I’m glad I had time to reflect on our conversation and the need to really cover it much more thoroughly. You will be hearing from her and others, soon! Once again… another unpredictable week! I hope you are enjoying the Holiday Season! Thank you for taking the time to listen! Thanks for Listening and Subscribing! The song I have sent you this week is one I wrote for the Welsh album I composed for Paul Damian and tells the legend of Beddgelert. I’m sending this one because we have just spent a few days walking in the heart of Snowdonia and it doesn’t get any better….we also visited a Slate Museum in Llanberis which was incredible…it is built on the site of a Quarry and is mind blowing…and is FREE!!...it is a credit to the Land of Song. The news has been covering the terrible tragedy in Napal….and the journalists have been at there usual mindless interviews with families worried about there relatives caught up in it all…”how did you feel when you heard the news etc……”….how do these fools get employed?....it was good to see the response form rescue and aid workers….the power of nature brings everything into perspective….we moan about such trivial things…let’s hope everything that can be done is done. Michael Flatley is about to retire and has created a “painting”… by splashing paint on a canvas and rubbing his hands all over it while river dancing….it sold for 70 odd grand …maybe I’m missing something here but to me it looked a complete mess…talk about the kings new clothes. It reminded me of an art exhibition I went to in Liverpool by Rolph Harris…before his dilemma…and I couldn’t believe the prices they were asking for thumbnail cartoons which couldn’t have taken more than a minute to draw….when he comes out of jail he should be thrown back in again for ripping us all off…..I can’t imagine they would be worth much now. Bear Grylls has got yet another survival programme on the TV….I fail to see the point of all this….apart from Bear proving how hard he is….it’s an accident waiting to happen…and for WHAT?...so you win the competition and prove you could survive in the jungle…skills you are NEVER likely to use…I find it very uncomfortable viewing......and on the subject of fitness Paula Radcliffe has run her last race….what a great example to the world of sport….I don’t know how anyone can run that far…count me out. I enjoyed the clip you sent me with Penny Page and various co-incidences….You mentioned Marvin Rainwater who had the 50’s chart topper “A whole lotta woman”…Monty Lister interviewed him at the time when he was on the Liverpool Empire and asked him if he would come over to Wirral to meet some of the patients in Clatterbridge Hospital….Marvin not only did that he took the whole show over and entertained them all…and I did a gig in Finland back in 2001 and got chatting to this guy who was a local and asked me to listen to some rock and roll on his car radio….so on goes the CD and on comes Monty Lister interviewing Bill Haley in 1956…the guy couldn’t get over the fact that had I not been there in the Arctic Circle I would,at that precise moment,be on the radio with him….how’s that for a co-incidence?....and back in the 60’s I was on holiday in Palma in an apartment…next door was Jack Charlton who I got quite pally with (great guy) and he asked me if I was related to Ray Wood (who worked in leisure services in Wirral council)…because he was the brother of Roy Wood who played for Man City and who was a good friend of Jacks….I told him I wasn’t but I knew Ray very well and his other brother Charlie was the bass player in my first band…all creepy stuff…
