With the Democratic National Convention underway, the Biden Administration's announcing the first 10 drug prices negotiated under the under the Inflation Reduction Act seems likely to be a political move. Lykos Therapeutics slashed around 75% of its staff following the FDA's rejection of its MDMA-assisted therapy for PTSD. Meanwhile, diagnostic company GRAIL parted with about a quarter of its workforce, and German biotech Evotec could cut 400 roles globally. Traditional retirement solutions are broken, they leave people with massive tax and market risks with only a 'fingers crossed' hope that their money won't run out.Americans used to have certainty about their retirement. They would get a guaranteed check for life from social security and from their pension. Unfortunately these certainties are all but goneNow Americans are left with retirement accounts that are fully invested in the stock market. And you know what they say about having all your eggs in one basket right? Crossing your fingers and hoping you will have enough to live on is a terrible way to go into retirement. Wouldn’t you like to have certainty? Bulletproof peace of mind? More with David offers the New IRA -- its the INSURED RETIREMENT ADVANTAGE. One of the oldest and best life insurance companies gets one of the largest US banks to do all of the heavy lifting so that you can get certainty for your retirement. What’s your part? You write 5 checks and then you are DONE. Then you decide when to get a check tax free every year!5 checks and you can check off your retirement! One great thing about the NEW IRA is that the life insurance company and it’s partner bank have covered virtually all the market risk for you and have erased the tax risk you already face with traditional retirement plans. In this episode I discuss the NEW IRA with Gary Eastridge and why the traditional 'answers' to saving up for retirement are terribly broken. Traditional retirements require you to save and save until you are old, pay massive taxes on your growth and then have no built in certainty that your money won't run out. Winning at retirement REQUIRES a plan that can create a check for life that is significant enough to live on and preferably is immune to taxation. Just over a year ago, 29 year old Lyra McKee was shot dead in Northern Ireland. The day after she was murdered, the parish priest in the part of Londonderry where she was shot was angry and deeply upset, and he spoke out against those who pulled the trigger. Father Joe Gormley knew it could be dangerous to be so vocal but nevertheless he said: "Our parish is full of so many good people and these people come into our area and use us to carry out such vile acts. How dare they. How dare they." "They have done it in this Holy Week. They have done it in a way that is totally, totally anti-Gospel and literally anti-Christ." Father Gormley was right. Speaking publicly took its toll. He felt at risk from groups like the New IRA and Saoradh, and fellow clergy urged him to watch it. However Father Gormley hasn't stopped meditating on Lyra's death. Now he feels it's safer to tell the story of what it's like to serve parishioners in a housing estate which has been at the heart of the sectarian conflict for so long. Presented by Siobhann Tighe. It's been a month since Lyra McKee was killed in Londonderry. She was 29 and was already making waves in journalism as well as being an advocate for the LGBTQ+ community. The night she was shot she had been watching rioting in Creggan, a housing estate on the outskirts of the city. The New IRA said its members carried out the murder. At her funeral politicians were urged to find solutions to Northern Ireland's problems and Lyra's partner, Sara Canning, addressed them personally, seizing the opportunity to speak to them candidly.
See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Lyra Mckee was killed at a riot in Londonderry last week. She was 29 and an acclaimed journalist who wrote about the Troubles and campaigned for LGBT rights. We speak to three people connected to Lyra: Leona O’Neill was there the night she was killed, Aoife Moore grew up on the estate in Derry where she died, and Professor Siobhan O’Neill from Ulster University worked with Lyra researching trauma. They tell us what Lyra McKee would want us to know about Northern Ireland. Produced by: Philly Beaumont Mixed by Nicolas Raufast Editor: John Shields.
Hundreds of people were killed in eight blasts on Easter Sunday, but could the authorities have prevented it, if intelligence was passed on correctly? Plus, the “New IRA” says it killed a journalist in Londonderry, and Change UK launches its European election campaign.
Sri Lanka's state minister of defense says the Easter church and hotel attacks were "retaliation" for the shooting massacre by a white supremacist at two New Zealand mosques last month. New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern's office says she's aware of the comments linking Sri Lanka's bombings to the Christchurch attacks, though it says it hasn't "seen any intelligence upon which such an assessment might be based." The Police Service of Northern Ireland says it has arrested a woman under the Terrorism Act in connection with the slaying of journalist Lyra (LEER-uh) McKee. An Irish Republican Army splinter group admits one of its "volunteers" killed McKee, who was shot while reporting on rioting. The New IRA offered "full and sincere" apologies to McKee's family and friends. A Kremlin adviser says President Vladimir Putin will meet North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in Russia's Far East on Thursday. The adviser has told Russian news agencies the much-anticipated talks would focus on North Korea's nuclear program.
The House Judiciary Committee has issued a subpoena for special counsel Robert Mueller's full report on Russian election meddling, as Congress ramps up its probe of President Trump. Chairman Jerrold Nadler says it's up to Congress to determine the full scope of the alleged misconduct and to decide what comes next. He's asking for the report and underlying materials by May 1st. A young journalist has been killed during rioting in Northern Ireland. The Police Service of Northern Ireland says Lyra McKee was shot, probably by a stray bullet. Police say the dissident republican group, the New IRA, was most likely responsible. Former Vice President Joe Biden is expected to announce he's running for president as early as next Wednesday, according to three people with knowledge of Biden's plans. Biden, who is 76, will enter the race as a Democratic front-runner.

We speak to journalist Paulie Doyle about the so-called New IRA, a militant Irish republican group that's recently stepped up their political violence in both Northern Ireland and Britain. Paulie tells us about their recent letter bomb campaign, the Derry car bomb, and how, in part, Brexit is fuelling their will to fight. - www.patreon.com/popularfront - www.popularfront.co - www.twitter.com/jake_hanrahan - www.instagram.com/popular.front
Tanaiste Simon Coveney has said he is angry and embarrassed by the “warped thinking” which saw two letter bombs sent to transport hubs in London. The Tanaiste said the people who sent the packages, which had Dublin postmarks, should be “isolated and criticised”. Gardai are investigating the possibility that the letters were sent to airports and a train stations in London by dissident republican group the New IRA. Speaking exclusively to Independent.ie's Floating Voter podcast, Mr Coveney said: “I think any decent thinking person needs to reject utterly the kind of warped thinking that results in somebody sending an explosive device or something that can catch fire in the post into anywhere.” He said he reacted to yesterdays reports with a “combination of anger and embarrassment” and praised the work of both the gardai and the police. “The perception in the UK of this will be one of bemusement as to why anyone would want to send even a small explosive device like this to London from Dublin. The fact that it could happen and come from Dublin is something I and many other people would be uncomfortable with,” he added. The Tanaiste also revealed new details of the Government's on-going Brexit negotiations. He said the Government will “intensify” contingency plans for the Irish border if Westminster MPs votes for a no-deal Brexit in the House of Commons next week. However, he said the solution for the border in a no-deal scenario will still “look like something similar to the backstop”. “If there is some other way of doing this that prevents border infrastructure or other checks and controls and facilitates an all-Irish economy to function into the future well then we are up for looking at that,” he added. Mr Coveney separately discussed his family's fostering of children during his youth. He spoke about encountering on the streets of Cork as a seven year old when walking through the city with one of those children.
Northern Ireland-related terrorism now represents a “substantial” threat to Great Britain, according to MI5 - the security service. It believes that a terrorist attack is a "strong possibility" in Britain and "highly likely" in Northern Ireland itself. This reflects the continuing threat from dissident republicans.
