Little people have a history of being portrayed in media as dehumanized and unreal characters. The majority of roles for little people in movies, TV shows, and commercials have been demeaning, degrading, and misrepresentative of their actual experience. These roles include leprechauns, elves, munchkins, oompa loompas, Chucky, and others. Nic Novicki realized that the best way for little people and others with disabilities to have the world see them in a real light was to start the Easterseals Disability Film Challenge. https://disabilityfilmchallenge.com/
Imagine this situation. You graduate college with a business degree and have multiple job offers. You say, “No thanks, I will try my hand as a stand-up comedian”. That is what our guest, Nic Novicki, said. And, guess what? Nic has been very successful at it. Listen to his journey as he took his wonderful skills of connecting people and creativity to pursue an acting career as well as launching the Easterseals Disability Film Challenge. He started the Film Challenge as he wanted to see other people with disabilities behind and in front of the camera. His sage advice includes…realize things will scale in time, failing is okay, set realistic goals, build on your own and don't wait for people to give you “something”. You don't want to miss listening to Nic's incredible story. Nic Novicki is a comedian, actor, and producer that has performed on 6 continents including several tours through Armed Forces Entertainment, performing for troops. Cory Reeder is a writer, director, producer and founder of Renaissance Man Productions. Since moving his company to Los Angeles in 2011, he has been creating music videos for Hayley Kiyoko, Seether, Martin Solveig, Of Mice & Men, Five Finger Death Punch, and more. In between music video productions, Cory is devoted to directing narrative stories. In 2014, while directing the award-winning short film Unlikely Temptations starring Nic Novicki, Reeder was educated on the lack of representation people with disabilities have in media. Since then he has focused his efforts on all forms of inclusion behind and in front of the camera. In 2016, his film Boxed Out won actress Diana Elizabeth Jordan the Best Actor Award from the Easter Seals Disability Film Challenge. In 2017, his entry: Best Friend, was nominated in all categories taking home two awards for Best Film and Audience Awareness Award. Cory is currently writing Best Friend into a feature-length screenplay and looking to have it produced this fall. Additional works in development are the indie feature Amboy and the sitcom Shenanigans.

Our next caller, Maria, is having trouble with her mobile home manager setting painting requirements. She seeks advice on how to deal with her landlord treating her unfairly with threats of a 30 day notice. Hear how Nancy suggests that she be her own investigator by turning to written paperwork to defend her case rather than have a verbal disagreement. Our Inspirational guest, Nic Novicki, is an actor, comedian and filmmaker who was born with Achondroplasia or dwarfism. He has starred in numerous acting roles on TV shows like The Sopranos, Boardwalk Empire, and Saturday Night Live. Hear how at the height of 3’10 he has pursued a large vision of creating with Easterseals a film challenge. Our next caller, Eden is going through a break up and needs advice on how to overcome her feelings of sadness and depression. Listen to hear how Nancy relates her own stories to Eden of how she reached out to her exes to get feedback on what went wrong and to avoid putting blame on herself. When you achieve your goals, you will have an everlasting impact as you live full out.
