Koa Beck on Quitting Self-OptimizationKoa Beck made it to the top of her field: she was the was the editor-in-chief of Jezebel and before that was the executive editor at Vogue.com with many other coveted roles held along the way, before she left to write a book that guaranteed she'd never be employable by those institutions ever again. But this isn't the story of how Koa managed that transition--it's not her quitting story. It's the story of white feminism and the lie that self-optimization will save us from a system designed to crush us. If we want a different future, there's a lot of things we're going to have to quit individually and collectively; this is a conversation about that. About Koa Beck:KOA BECK is the author of the acclaimed nonfiction book White Feminism: From the Suffragettes to Influencers and Who They Leave Behind (Simon & Schuster, January 2021), praised by feminist writers Gloria Steinem and Rebecca Traister. Previously, she was the editor-in-chief of Jezebel, the executive editor of Vogue.com, and the senior features editor at MarieClaire.com. Patrisse Khan-Cullors, the cofounder of Black Lives Matter, describes Koa's work as “intellectually smart and emotionally intelligent” while the Boston Globe has deemed her “a perceptive cultural critic” and “a visionary.” She is currently working on her second book and lives in Los Angeles with her wife. Find Koa at her website, Koabeck.com or follow her on Instagram @koabeckQuitted is listener-supported, made possible by us and by you; you can support this podcast by joining our Patreon community at patreon.com/quittedHost: Holly Whitaker, https://hollywhitaker.substack.comHost: Emily McDowell, https://emilyonlife.comProducer: Cathleen KisichSound engineering + edits: Adam Day, https://www.adamdayphotography.com/Music: Michael Blumenfeld, mikebloomstudio.com Become a Quitted supporter on Patreon See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Louis Avallone explains there were about 2,000 more homicides in urban centers in the past year, with this huge increase in number being because of the Democrats’ War on Civil Society. Does BLM (Black Lives Matter) care that most of those murders were black lives? And while all of this was going on, Patrisse Khan-Cullors, the co-founder of the marxist BLM, when on an expensive home buying binge acquiring 4 houses for a total cost of $3,200,000. Stephen Parr explains that in Marxist thinking the people “at the top” can do whatever they want, but no one else in a Marxist society is allowed to own property. Why did anyone in America think BLM was worth $90,000,000 in donations last year?We have plenty of jobs for people who are not working. But the government is providing a $300 a week bonus to those in a “not working” unemployment status. Louis Avallone and Stephen Parr discuss the problem. Our American Mamas, Teri Netterville and Denise Arthur, explain how American Mamas are not needing or even wanting “gifts” for Mother’s Day. Being with family or receiving something that is a special remembrance is most appreciated.California is now officially losing population. The liberal California politicians are saying it is because “immigration” (meaning both legal and illegal) was effectively slowed down by Trump. They also are claiming it is because of COVID deaths last year. What the California politicians do not want to admit is within the USA, California is no longer a state Americans want to move to, and in fact, more Californians have been moving out of the state than other Americans moving in.Fake News Friday

The one home in question most is the $1.4 million home in Topanga Canyon, California just outside Los Angeles which is a mostly white neighborhood. In episode 76 let's call an audible and highlight that in 2021 there seems to be an apparent chasm in male and female romantic and/or interpersonal relationships. Not for all, but for an acute many. UNCOMFORTABLE TRUTHS: There are some “facts of life” that unnerve us. Dynamics that we navigate or contribute to, that when unpacked, are uncomfortable to sit with and resolve internally. Realities that, in the light, aren't so bright. Two Wise Jawns will be exploring these TRUTHS over the course of the next few episodes. Buckle in, we’re getting UNCOMFORTABLE! UNCOMFORTABLE TRUTH du jour: After looking at the landscape of “experts” in the online dating sphere and the discussions about dating online we have come to the conclusion that straight people are struggling. Is it the inherent dimorphism of the hoomans? Is it the lack of empathy on all sides? Is it biological imperatives? Is it lack of incentives? Is it unrealistic expectations? Is it "it is what it is"? From YouTube dating coaches such as Kevin Samuels to manosphere deep forums like The Red Pill to Twitter clapbacks of "pick mes" and "simps" to the ladies of Reddit indulging Female Dating Strategy threads, the world of dating and attracting a mate has become more convoluted than ever for a plentiful many. You know we Two Wise Jawns are here to unpack the "why." We're millennials so our frame of reference focuses there -- Gen Z listeners hit up Tik Tok for more relatable content :) HOT TOPICS: - Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh has died at the age of 99, which is impressive because he looked about 187. - Rest in Power DMX. - The Derek Chauvin trail continues. - Khole Kardashian and unrealistic beauty standards. - Black Lives Matter (BLM) co-founder Patrisse Khan-Cullors is a Marxist living the luxe life! - Deshaun Watson did whatever they said he did. Recorded Sunday, April 11, 2021.

BLM jihadist, Patrisse Khan- Cullors proves the importance of name. Hypocrisy is a word synonymous with the woman who claims the world's ills are mostly due to white folks. I wonder if she feels the same about her new wealthy white neighbors? Does it even matter? Lawfare- a term I've used for weeks now. A new group in town. If you are experiencing the weight of the nation's latest antics to molest your civil liberties, this group needs to be on your radar. Men- there's a special call on your lives right now in our history. It's likely the hardest thing you will ever do with the greatest pay out. I have faith in you.

Are we promoting racism' and Homosexuality's ……? YOU decide   And Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life. Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. President Joe Biden's administration said Friday additional vaccine doses will not be delivered to states seeing surges in COVID-19 cases, despite appeals from local leaders and some health experts. Inside BLM co-founder Patrisse Khan-Cullors' million-dollar real-estate buying binge Black Lives Matter co-founder buys four high-end homes for $3.2 million in the US alone Patrisse Khan-Cullors, 37, also eyed property in the Bahamas at an ultra-exclusive resort where Justin Timberlake and Tiger Woods both have homes, The Post has learned. Luxury apartments and townhouses at the beachfront Albany resort outside Nassau are priced between $5 million and $20 million, according to a local agent. Does his life matter: A 27-year-veteran of the Iowa State Patrol was shot and killed by a man who had earlier assaulted a police officer, Iowa Department of Public Safety Commissioner Stephan Bayens said Saturday. Dontae's difficult decisions and catching viewers by surprise with that abrupt sex scene. According to The New York Times, five of All Rise ‘s original seven writers — including the show's three highest-ranking writers of color — will not be returning for Season 2 after clashing with showrunner Greg Spottiswood (who is white) over the series' depiction of race and gender. Sims shares. “We take on Black Lives Matter and other social issues in a way that one would not expect, no matter what side of the political spectrum you fall on in that. I hate to say that it is political — it shouldn't be — but it has been politicized, obviously, Black Lives Matter. Hunter Biden has opened up about his relationship with his sister-in-law and the widow of his deceased brother Beau in a new memoir, saying the affair “came out of a real overwhelming grief.” yes some would say this is okay however she had children's already: so please do not try to justify it with this verse: Deuteronomy 25:5  “If brothers dwell together, and one of them dies and has no son, the wife of the dead man shall not be married outside the family to a stranger. Her husband's brother shall go in to her and take her as his wife and perform the duty of a husband's brother to her. Reverend Raphael Warnock, the newly elected Democrat senator from Georgia, deleted an Easter tweet from his account after receiving significant backlash online. “The meaning of Easter is more transcendent than the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Whether you are Christian or not, through a commitment to helping others we are able to save ourselves,” said the original tweet, posted to his non-government account Sunday and removed later in the evening. In some people's minds, being homosexual is as much outside one's control as the color of your skin and your height. On the other hand, the Bible clearly and consistently declares that homosexual activity is a sin (Genesis 19:1–13; Leviticus 18:22; 20:13; Romans 1:26–27; 1 Corinthians 6:9; 1 Timothy 1:10). This disconnect leads to much controversy, debate, and even hostility. Biblically speaking, there are positive and negative aspects to hatred. It is acceptable to hate those things that God hates; indeed, this is very much a proof of a right standing with God. “Let those who love the Lord hate evil” (Psalm 97:10a). Indeed, the closer our walk with the Lord and the more we fellowship with Him, the more conscious we will be of sin, both within and without. Do we not grieve and burn with anger when God's name is maligned, when we see spiritual hypocrisy, when we see blatant unbelief and godless behavior? The more we understand God's attributes and love His character, the more we will be like Him and the more we will hate those things that are contrary to His Word and nature. The word adultery is etymologically related to the word adulterate, which means “to render something poorer in quality by adding another substance.” Adultery is the adulteration of marriage by the addition of a third person. Adultery is voluntary sexual activity between a married person and someone other than his or her spouse.

So I’d like to remind you if you didn’t hear it last week or maybe you did and thought, what could I possibly have to say? What could I contribute? Is my story/thought/idea/moment worth sharing? I am here to remind you, the answer is yes, you do have a story to share.Last week, I had originally set a deadline to call into the voicemail line I set up. After thinking on it this past week, I realized there is no deadline on telling your story. There is no deadline on speaking your truth. This week is the five year anniversary of Black lives matter. We hear from Patrisse Khan-Cullors, co-founder of Black Lives Matter and the author of the new book, WHEN THEY CALL YOU A TERRORIST: A Black Lives Matter Memoir, a meaningful, empowering account of strength and resilience. In this conversation, hosted by long-time organizer Cat Brooks, we hear Patrisse Cullors' insights on Black Liberation, Police Terrorism and the criminalization of Black activism in America. WHEN THEY CALL YOU A TERRORIST takes an intimate look at Cullors' time growing up in Van Nuys, California, surrounded by a devoted family and supportive friends. She weaves her experiences into the larger picture of how predominantly Black and Latino neighborhoods are under constant systemic attack. From an unrelenting and hostile police presence, to disproportionate punitive action, to lack of basic social and medical services, Cullors explains how lack of personal security and dignity makes daily life an act of survival. At the 2018 Women of the World Festival in London, Kim Chakanetsa brings together two extraordinary women who have been instrumental in the fight against racism and police brutality. In 2013, three women came together to form an active response to systemic racism in the US. They'd just learned that the man who shot dead an unarmed black teenager called Trayvon Martin had been acquitted for the killing. They said simply: Black Lives Matter. One of them was Patrisse Khan-Cullors. Patrisse grew up in Los Angeles and became an activist at an early age, having witnessed how her own family members had been treated at the hands of police. In January 2018, she published her memoir, When They Call You a Terrorist. Baroness Doreen Lawrence has campaigned for police reform ever since the murder of her son Stephen in London in 1993. He was stabbed to death at a bus stop in an unprovoked racist attack. Doreen's tireless fight for justice finally resulted in two of his killers being convicted, and in a public inquiry. This resulted in the landmark Macpherson Report, which identified institutional racism in the police service, and led to widespread police reform. Doreen Lawrence has become an important public figure in the UK and was made a life peer in the House of Lords in 2013. While knitting together an understanding of the intellectual achievements and contributions of many African-American women, Cooper pays particular attention to Anna Julia Cooper, Fannie Barrier Williams, Mary Church Terrell, Pauli Murray, Toni Cade Bambara and the engagement that these women had with ideas, highlighting the contributions they made to racial knowledge, questions of gender, and civic engagement within the United States, from the period after Reconstruction through the 1970s. Cooper than provides a contemporary epilogue, integrating into her research the conversation around the beginnings of the #blacklivesmatter movement and the women who started it, Patrisse Khan-Cullors, Alicia Garza, and Opal Tometi, and how they, like the race women who preceded them, have been compelled to attest to their primacy in thinking about and then coming together to form this more recent social movement. Cooper traces the spaces where Black female intellectual engagement took place, in places like the National Association for Colored Women, the club movement, and the pages of the political magazine, Voice of the Negro, as well as how some of this movement migrated into college and university classrooms and programs. Cooper's book engages with the actual ideas and concepts that many of these women voiced or wrote, as well as analyzing the intellectual conversations these women had with each other on occasion, but more particularly with their contemporaries. Dr. Brittney C. Cooper, who is an assistant professor of women’s and gender studies at Rutgers University, explores the intellectual genealogy and geography of the work of African-American women over the course of more than a century in her book, Beyond Respectability: The Intellectual Thought of Race Women (University of Illinois Press, 2017). Cooper’s book engages with the actual ideas and concepts that many of these women voiced or wrote, as well as analyzing the intellectual conversations these women had with each other on occasion, but more particularly with their contemporaries. Beyond Respectability is both accessible and sophisticated in the discussion of American intellectual history, race, gender, sexual orientation, black feminism, citizenship, and social engagement. Kick off Season 2 with your favorite hosts and grassroots organizer, resistance fighter, and #blacklivesmatter co-founder Patrisse Khan-Cullors! We dig into why Patrisse identifies as an organizer and not an activist, what it was like to see #blacklivesmatter go viral, and the fear – and courage – that goes along with being viewed as an enemy of the state. There’s no other person we’d rather laugh and resist with than Patrisse – and you. Follow Patrisse on Twitter: @osope. You can also learn more about her fight against police brutality at http://patrissecullors.com/. And of course, get involved with #blacklivesmatter – chapter information is available at http://blacklivesmatter.com/. And meet your hosts! Both Kamau and Hari are going on tour – find out when they’ll be in your city at www.harikondabolu.com and www.wkamaubell.com. If you can’t wait until then, you can always listen to Hari’s new record “Hari Kondabolu’s New Material Night Volume I” on Bandcamp and iTunes.
