When the formation of the U.S. "Space Force" was announced, the new military branch was the butt of many jokes but what role will it serve in the 21st century? Tensions are currently high between the United States, Russia, and China. Is a war in outer space inevitable or will this new frontier offer prosperity for all who join in the adventure? A new guest on the program helps us to answer this important questions. Outer space is the ultimate strategic high ground for the world's great powers. This is true for both spy satellites and ballistic missiles. During the Cold War, President Ronald Reagan proposed the creation of a technologically advanced, space-based defensive weapon system known as S.D.I.. But critics of the proposal dubbed it 'Star Wars' and said it would trigger a new arms race with the Soviet Union. What historical lessons can be learned from this episode in history? In the late 1940s, the United States military began to take an interest in reports of unidentified flying objects or U.F.O.s which included multiple projects designed to investigate and evaluate the sightings. Despite the fact that many UFO sightings were cases of mistaken identity that could easily be explained away, a minority of them proved extremely perplexing to the U.S. government, leading some high level officials to consider the possibility that the Earth was being visited by extraterrestrials... and at the center of it all, there was one astronomer named J. Allen Hynek who struggled to bring his scientific expertise to bear on the mystery. A European patent clerk with an overactive imagination revealed to the world the very fabric of space and time. But decades later, the discovery of black holes would reveal far more challenging facts about the nature of our universe: gaping holes in the very fabric of reality itself. Within the depths of black holes, we might find the keys to a comprehensive and unifiying understanding of quantum mechanics and General Relativity... or we might find a window to oblivion. James Routledge and George Bettany, founders of the mental health startup Sanctus, have been on a mission for the last two years to try and change the perceptions of mental health - with the intention of one day putting the first mental health gym on the high street.Their experiences with mental health from before Sanctus and through their work with businesses around the UK to create impartial, safe spaces for employees to work on their mental health have made them realise just how much the perceptions need to change and how we need to get people talking about their mental health in day to day conversation. The enigmatic topic of coaching and therapy is one that often leads to only more confusion. So after a failed first recording of this episode, the three people spearheading the Sanctus movement in coaching sit down again to chat about their personal experiences in both coaching and therapy.James (coaching and therapy user) chats to Sophie (coach) and Ben (therapist) about what you should be considering if you're not sure whether to look for a coach or a therapist to support your own mental health. They discuss their initial reservations around the predatory nature of what it is to pay for a relationship and further explore the differences between the two mediums, before finally concluding with how their experiences have led them to the positions they are in - looking to incite change in the industry. Music Credits:"Loopster, Jarvic 8, Dreamer, Perspectives" Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com)Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 3.0 Licensehttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/

But startup culture is not all it is cracked up to be.James & George's first experiences of poor mental health centered around the failure of their startup ‘Matchchat' - which led to the creation of Sanctus which values itself around going against the grain of startup culture. But this isn't to say the world of startups isn't for everyone. So the guys sit down with Venture Capitalist, co-founder of The Bakery, Investor in Citymapper, Ometria, Verve, Farewill (to name a few) - Alex Dundson - to chat both the dangers and positives of startup culture on your mental health.Music Credits:"Loopster, ZigZag, Dreamer, Perspectives" Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com)Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 3.0 Licensehttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/

Ryan and Mike go deep into "To The Bone", a Netflix special, starring Lily Collins, based on true events surrounding a battle with Anorexia. To The Bone, is as intense a look into treatment as any pop culture they've looked at to date, even if the ending is a little too packaged for Ryan's taste. Is it possible to find the calm in the chaos of each of our lives? We all have our own level of chaos that impacts our mental health. So we invited on a couple of people who have had their fair share of dealing with chaos to see how they dealt with it and see if a solution can be found. Before going into paramedic training, Nic Dunn underwent a surgery that left him with chronic pain and struggles with anxiety as a result. Throughout his studies, his difficulties eventually led him to finding mindfulness as a technique to deal with both the physical and emotional difficulties of being a paramedic - from helping a pensioner after a fall to resuscitating somebody in the street on a day to day basis. After realising he wanted to be a teacher, Ed Watson never fully appreciated the workload required to be a teacher. Working in schools that really needed help with a diverse range of students, Ed's desire for success led him to winning a teaching award despite the unbelievable stress of the job. Despite being shuttled into a bus on the first day after a suspected attack from a rival school and being punched in class, the chaos that really got to Ed was the constant disruptions that formed years of chaos. Music Credits:"Loopster, Bicycle, Odyssey, Perspectives" Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com)Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 3.0 Licensehttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/

One military space vehicle was even designed that could carry human beings to the stars... or annihilate the entire human race. It was a difficult time but her whole family but none more so than her dad, whose physical reaction to grief seemed to be getting increasingly worse over the next few months. They unexpectedly received the news just after Christmas that year that his deteriorating condition was actually due to him having advanced bowel cancer. For centuries, humanity concieved of a cosmos with a fixed earth at its center with stars and planets orbiting around it. Then one day, an obscure Polish priest proposed an outlandish new theory. But it was Galileo and his telescope that would provide the ultimate proof for this radical theory when he bore witness to the universe as it truly existed. Galileo boldly challenged the Catholic Church's view of the universe... in the process, he gave birth to modern astronomy. Whenever something terrible happens, someone always asks, “how could a just God allow bad things to happen?” Unfortunately, the question is silly and unbearably self-entitled. Bad things happen because that’s how the world works. Sometimes people cause suffering and sometimes suffering just happens. Why? Because death and suffering are a part of life. Every human being who has ever lived has had to die, so on what basis can anyone ask, “why did this person have to die?” Death and destruction in nature are a necessary component of the natural world and ultimately contribute to the continuation of life, so on what basis can anyone call them evil? These things happen beyond the scope of human control, because, far from mastering the natural world, human beings are subject to it. We may not like it, but that is the way things are. For Scripture, it’s not a question why things happen, but of how the things that happen in the world can be coopted as teachers for the cause of the gospel; in Mark, transformed from the pain of human despair and fear into the pain of birth-giving for the life of the world. Transwoman and their bodies - What I've learned since transitioning July 31, 2017 | Debbie Louise Cannon Ask any woman about their body and a lot of them will tell you things that they hate rather than things that they love about their body. There's so much body shaming and misogyny in the mainstream media levied towards women, that for many CIS women the thought of shopping, going out in public or even wearing something that is slightly revealing can be daunting. Nevermind doing it as a trans woman. I went shopping today for some new work clothes, and a bra-fitting (first in 2 years) and whilst all of the shop assistants were lovely and helpful the anxiety of going clothes shopping on your own as a trans-woman is very real. I want to use today to talk about your bodies, so here are the most valuable lessons I've learned since I transitioned. My Idunn cardigan has been updated with pretty green buttons and a slimmer button band after I was determined to get it completely finished this week. I also talk about how I plan to stabilize the neckline for improved wearability. I ordered some yarn back at the beginning of April, and after getting lost in the mail for nearly 2 months, it finally found its way to my house! I finish off the show with some weaving chat (feel free to turn it off at the end of the spinning segment if you're not interested in hearing me talk about weaving).Crafty Creations, Delta, BCIdunn Cardigan, and look at all of these inspirational Lettlopi sweaters from the Fancy Tiger KAL! Whatsup Whatsup!! How are you doing guys? Nesse primeiro episódio vamos ouvir a historia do Leão e o Rato ou "The Lion and the Mouse", uma das minhas favoritas! THE LION AND THE MOUSE A Lion lay asleep in the forest, his great head resting on his paws. A timid little Mouse came upon him unexpectedly, and in her fright and haste to get away, ran across the Lion's nose. Roused from his nap, the Lion laid his huge paw angrily on the tiny creature to kill her. "Spare me!" begged the poor Mouse. "Please let me go and someday I will surely repay you." The Lion was much amused to think that a Mouse could ever help him. But he was generous and finally let the Mouse go. Some days later, while stalking his prey in the forest, the Lion was caught in the toils of a hunter's net. Unable to free himself, he filled the forest with his angry roaring. The Mouse knew the voice and quickly found the Lion struggling in the net. Running to one of the great ropes that bound him, she gnawed it until it parted, and soon the Lion was free. "You laughed when I said I would repay you," said the Mouse. "Now you see that even a Mouse can help a Lion." Moral: A kindness is never wasted. "Me poupe!" Implorou o pobre Rato.
