The US immigration detention system, heavily reliant on for-profit private prison companies, has led to concerns about profit-driven expansion and potential abuses, with over 90% of ICE detainees held in private facilities. US empire has decided not to push for NATO membership for Ukraine, thereby back peddling the proxy war against Russia. Meanwhile, Trump n friends are sending 5,000 troops to the border bc the Gestapo (CBP/ICE) need support in their human rights violations. And private prisons stand to make even more bank as detentions of migrants and refugees are expected to skyrocket. Violence in the West Bank is at levels not seen since the last Intifada in 2000. And there are some striking similarities between the horrific imprisonment of Palestinians and the prison industrial complex here in the land of the free. SERIES 3 EPISODE 68: COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN A-Block (2:00) SPECIAL COMMENT: If you're wondering who's the boss here it ain't Trump. Putin refused to call him first and instead had Russian State Television "celebrate" his becoming the 21st Century Grover Cleveland by showing nude photos of Melania. Russian TV - which has figured out Trump is a lame duck - also reported Nikki Haley and Mike Pompeo would not be in the new administration long before Trump announced it. Putin also seems to have soured on RFK Jr, leaving Sideshow Bobby to aspire only to becoming Secretary of Masturbation. MEANWHILE, NO, THE ELECTION WAS NOT STOLEN - not in the sense you're thinking. It WAS stolen in the sense that the fascists and the anti-democracy billionaires have been running a series of illicit, hidden, disguised pro-Republican advertisements 24/7/365, for at least thirty years. They have been bombarding the underachievers of this nation, the incels, the morons, the idiots, the bros, and now the social media addicts of America, with a series of easy-to-digest, sweet-tasting conspiracy theories on a thousand streaming networks and podcasts and the Democrats have...MSNBC. The Left not only doesn't compete in the new Marketplace of Ideas it doesn't know where the shops are. It has to change this or you can forget '26 and '28 as well. On the other hand, this circular firing squad? Utterly ludicrous. It looks like Kamala Harris will have ultimately lost by 1.5% which would make Trump's the fifth SMALLEST popular vote win all time. You do not burn it all down after that. You rebuild. B-BLOCK (32:15) POSTSCRIPTS TO THE NEWS: Corey Lewandowski and Chris LaCivita show us what winning means: you get to try to kill your rival on the winning team. Finally we figure out what's really behind the deportation scam: the companies that will make billions building the private prisons to turn into concentration camps for deportees. Nevermind the future of NATO. Will its members ever trust us with intel again? And the Dallas Cowboys honor founding coach Tom Landry on Veterans' Day by...misspelling his name. But it'll all come out in the wash. C-BLOCK (40:00) THE WORST PERSONS IN THE WORLD: With only 7% of the city believing he didn't commit a crime, New York Mayor Eric Adams has reached out to...Trump. The Massachusetts congressman has the New Democratic rallying cry: Transphobia! And the White House "correspondent" so stupid she publicly accused the Democrats of trying to fix the Kari Lake/Ruben Gallego race so they can "steal" Congress. Except Lake and Gallego were running for the Senate! See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

What would security look like in a society without government? In this episode of the Bad Roman podcast, host Craig Harguess sits down with Jeff Perry from Voluntarism in Action to explore this intriguing question. They delve into the concept of voluntary society security, discussing how private security firms, insurance-based models, and community-based solutions could replace traditional policing. The conversation critiques the current government-run police system, highlighting issues like qualified immunity, police militarization, and lack of accountability. Jeff and Craig explain how free market principles could offer better incentives and outcomes for security services, challenging the "foundational myth" that government exists to protect us. From a Christian perspective, they explore how voluntary solutions align more closely with Christian principles than coercive government systems. This episode is sure to provoke thought and encourage listeners to reconsider their views on security and governance. Tune in for a compelling discussion that questions the status quo and envisions a freer, more ethical society. Nearly 2 million people are locked in US jails and prisons on any given day. That's a 500% increase in during the last 40 years. Mass incarceration fueled a move toward private prisons-for-profit as states ran out of space to house incarcerated people and money to build new prisons. Our contemporary system of private prisons -for-profit began in the 1980s. Today, private prisons make billions of dollars every year housing, feeding and overseeing incarcerated people who the state pays them to lock up. But making money off of incarcerated bodies isn't a new idea. It's actually older than the United States. For a great genealogical take on the contemporary prison system, check out Shane Bauer's book American Prison: A Reporter's Undercover Journey into the Business of Punishment. This week we had Keaton Ross, a reporter who covers democracy, prison conditions, and criminal justice issues for Oklahoma Watch, on to chat with us about private prisons in Oklahoma. Many of us know some of the horrific truths and statistics about violence and the conditions inside private prisons, including ones in Oklahoma, but we don't always factor the devastating economic blow when these facilities are removed. In this episode, we hope to weigh all of the factors to give a wholistic view of private prisons in Oklahoma and nationwide.
This is a podcast about how private prisons shouldn't be allowed because of the illegal activities that they engage in.
Private prisons seemed to be the answer to America's overpopulated prisons in the 1980s. It's since become a controversial topic of debates. Experts discuss if the problem is with private prisons, or with our country's incarceration system as a whole. Learn more at: https://radiohealthjournal.org/private-prisons/
Capitalism can be a great thing, but there are aspects of American society where making money should not be the focal point. Profiting from the incarceration of human beings is along the same line as owning slaves, and in some cases in American prisons, indistinguishable from one another. America has 5% of the world's population, but 25% of the world's prisoners. Something has gone terribly wrong, and when the private prison industry was introduced to the United States the population of jails, prisons, and immigration detention centers exploded, putting millions of people behind bars, and billions of dollars in the pockets of investors, law firms, judges, and politicians. See how dirty the private prison industry really is, and what that means for the millions of people both behind bars, and those left on the outside that is trying to keep their lives together in light of the incarceration of their family member. We were fortunate to have two such interesting 'hands on' academics in this conversation. Within an academic climate that is not always sympathetic or collaborative they engaged in a three year research project in one of the most notorious penal establishments in the Uniteds States, Angola. Dr. Michael Hallett is a full Professor in the Department of Criminology & Criminal Justice at the University of North Florida. Dr. Hallett just finished his fourth book and has published research appearing in numerous additional books and journals including Punishment & Society, Journal of Offender Rehabilitation, Critical Criminology and others. Dr. Hallett's focus is Corrections & Social Inequality, Punishment & Society, and Religion & Crime. Dr. Hallett designed Jacksonville Sheriff's Office Pretrial Services Unit (drug treatment/diversion) and has completed extensive work with local organizations including Prisoners of Christ, Operation New Hope, Hubbard House, the City of Jacksonville, JCCI and others. Most recently, Dr. Hallett led a three-year study at America's largest maximum-security prison, "Angola" (aka Louisiana State Penitentiary) exploring the religious lives of long-term inmates. He has served as Principal Investigator on grants from the US Department of Justice, Florida Department of Juvenile Justice, Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, Jesse Ball DuPont Foundation, and several other organizations. Dr. Hallett has chaired two academic departments at UNF (Sociology, Anthropology & Criminal Justice and Criminology & Criminal Justice) after first directing the Graduate program in Criminal Justice. Dr. Hallett frequently works on local justice issues in Jacksonville and has completed over a dozen funded projects at UNF, often employing students in the research. We're working on it. https://anchor.fm/xandragon/message Sorry so late everyone we had some technical difficulties at the Xandragon podcast. But the episode four is finally out. There's no observer today. And we're still figuring this thing out. The observer did however send the white paper I requested. For your dissection. Thank you observer. https://oig.justice.gov/sites/default/files/archive/special/9712/index.htm makes for some gloomy reading this is our world we talk about how the CIA targeted the poor in the black community in America and maximized their exploitation to get a horrendous effect. When they affect, evil is the effect. Always. We want to make awareness: we talk about ways to get awareness out there, ways we can strengthen our bond together so we can fight the powers that be, and how are these maniacs want to destroy us..,, keep us pacified and stupid. Everything the patriots said its all coming true. We also talk about the power of positive self change and what we can do when it seems like no one loves us and no one cares. We want to rebuild relationships. This country is full of traps (they are put there to make a stumble the best thing we can doRebuild our relationships and strengthen those bonds with our loved ones and try to rejuvenate our relationships that we have and rebuild the ones we have lost) Alexander and the voices in my head do make a guest appearance but out of respect....they subside. In this episode, we dive into the ugly business of private prisons and why it's in their best interest to keep more people in jail. We'll be talking about some of the horror stories that prisoners go through to survive these prisons. Additionally, we'll be talking about what we're doing as a country to ban these prisons and why change must come from the people and not the government. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app

A recent study provides more detail on transmission of COVID-19 in pediatric carriers. Then, Alabama's governor is seeking to improve conditions in correctional facilities by expanding private prisons. But reform advocates in the region are urging a different approach.Plus, after a Southern Remedy Health Minute, we preview the pandemic anniversary special.Segment 1:High school students throughout the state are gearing up for spring break. The week long reprieve from classes is often a time vacations and travel. But without an available vaccine for adolescents, health care professionals caution transmission of the coronavirus is still a risk for the demographic. And now, more details are being revealed about the extent of transmission in children during the pandemic. Around 38 thousand coronavirus cases have been identified in Mississippi children under the age of 18. But a recent study examining antibodies finds there could be as many as 10 times more pediatric infections than previously thought. Dr. Charlotte Hobbs, Pediatrician at the University of Mississippi Medical Center and lead author of the study says it's possible that many of these children never showed symptoms of the disease. She shares more with our Kobee Vance.Segment 2:Mississippi, Louisiana and Alabama all have higher incarceration rates than most of the country, but each state is testing a different approach to address the issue. Alabama's Governor Kay Ivey recently signed a lease for two new privately owned prisons. This decision sparked uproar with the public and the legislature. From the Gulf States Newsroom, Becca Schimmel takes a look at the region's differing approaches to reducing incarceration rates and overcrowding.Segment 3:Southern Remedy Health MinuteSegment 4:Tomorrow marks the anniversary of the day the world Health Organization first declared COVID-19 a pandemic. It's also the day Mississippi reported its first confirmed case of COVID-19. Coming up in place of Mississippi Edition tomorrow … we have a special broadcast revisiting some of the biggest stories of the past year in our region. It's called “A Year Like No Other: COVID-19 In the Gulf States.” See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
On this episode of the Resistance Library Podcast Sam and Dave discuss the prison industrial complex in the United States. "Where you find the laws most numerous, there you will find also the greatest injustice." - Arcesilaus, Greek philosopher and student of Plato on power and personal sovereignty There's no two ways about it: The United States of America and its 50 state governments love putting people in prison. The U.S. has both the highest number of prisoners and the highest per capita incarceration rate in the modern world at 655 adults per 100,000. (It's worth noting that China's incarceration statistics are dubious, and they execute far more people than the United States. Indeed, the so-called People's Republic executes more people annually than the rest of the world combined.) Still, that's more than 2.2 million Americans in state and federal prisons as well as county jails. On top of those currently serving time, 4.7 million Americans were on parole in 2016, or about one in 56. These numbers do not include people on probation, which raises the number to one in 35. Nor does it include all of the Americans who have been arrested at one time or another, which is over 70 million – more than the population of France. For firearm owners in particular, the growth in this “prison-industrial complex” is troubling because felons are forbidden from owning firearms and ammunition under the 1968 Gun Control Act. As the number of laws has grown and the cultural shift for police has gone from a focus on keeping the peace to enforcing the law, more and more Americans are being stripped of their 2nd Amendment rights (not to mention other civil rights like voting – as of 2017, 6.1 million Americans cannot vote because of their criminal records). All told, eight percent of all Americans cannot own firearms because of a felony conviction. For American society as a whole, the prison-industrial complex has created a perverse incentive structure. Bad laws drive out respect for good laws because there are just so many laws (not to mention rules, regulations, and other prohibitions used by federal prosecutors to pin crimes on just about anyone). In his first week, President Joe Biden has been signing Executive Orders at a remarkable pace. Notably, these executive orders have an overarching theme of restoring honor, decency, accountability, diversity and equality to our federal government. In short, he is trying to repair the incalculable damage to our government done by Donald Trump. In another break with Trump precedent, Joe Biden directly confronted Russian President Vladimir Putin on the many issues for which Trump had given Putin a pass. Plus, the White House actually informed the American people of the substance of the conversation between Biden and Putin as opposed to having to hear about it from the Russia, as was always the case with the Trump administration. In short, what a difference a week makes. Kevin Ott was arrested with 3.5 ounces of methamphetamine in 1996. That's the weight of a bar of soap. His sentence was life without the possibility of parole.Kevin was pardoned by the governor in 2019, 7 years after a documentary called The House I Live in highlighted his story from prison. Last week I sat down to ask him about his transition to the free world, his time inside, and what could have been different.
Abolish Private Prisons is a non-profit organization founded for one purpose: using the United States court system to end the practice of locking people up for profit. Executive director of Abolish Private Prisons, John Dacey, and Associate Director, Robby Craig, join us to discuss the issue of the privatization of prisons, racism, mass incarceration, and criminal justice reform. They share that when you privatize prisons each prisoner becomes a unit of profit to the corporation and to the shareholders. The prisoner becomes inventory on corporate balance sheets and is reduced from a human being to a commodity. Learn how we can help eradicate this modern day form of slavery by visiting www.abolishprivateprisons.org.
